Miguel Torres vs Manny Tapia WEC 37 title fight set for Dec. 3

Miguel Torres will once again put his 135-pound title on the line when he takes on Manny Tapia at WEC 37 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Wednesday, December 3.
Torres is in the midst of a breakout year despite years of dominating his competition in smaller shows throughout the nation. In fact, he has what some would consider a cult-like following from those who watched him shine in and around the Chicago area before signing with the Zuffa-owned promotion.
Fans likely now know the reason for all the underground buzz after "Angel" scored a thrilling third round technical knockout win over Yoshiro Maeda earlier this year in one of the best fights of 2008 to date.
Torres -- a Carlson Gracie protégé with sick Muay Thai skills -- submitted Chase Beebe prior to defeating Maeda to capture the WEC bantamweight title.
Tapia is a former King of the Cage star who has kept his perfect record intact since joining the WEC with two exciting wins over Brandon Foxworth and Antonio Banuelos. "The Mangler" often tends to live up to his nickname, preferring to stand and bang it out rather than take his fights to the ground.
He has not seen any action since February because of a knee injury that has kept him on the sidelines.
Tapia is an extremely game opponent; however, he will need to bring an all-around game if he intends to knockoff a guy like Torres who is widely regarded as among the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport today.
WEC 37 will air on the VERSUS network, beginning at 9 p.m. ET on fight night. Stay dialed in to MMAmania.com for the latest updates and rumors leading up to the event.

This fight will be interesting while it stays standing, but once the fight hits the ground, its a submission victory for the MMA Star of 2008.

I cant see Torres losing for a long time!!! I think he will beat Faber. I hope they make this fight sometime by the end of 09’.
Torres does not have ANY flaws in his game. He is so good at EVERYTHING!! I look forward to the guy that beats him…..I may be waiting a long time, but whoever can do it will be a bad, bad man

I can’t wait for this fight. I think with the WEC’s move to eliminate the LHW and MW divisions they will now be able to more aggressively promote their stars like Torres. Their lighter weight classes invariably have the more exciting fights and I’m glad that we’re going to be able to see them fight more often now. Torres is definitely one of the top fighters in the world, and I think this fight will be able to get him some of the exposure he deserves.

The elimation of LHW and MW really isn’t going to make that much of a difference as far as the televised WEC fights go. Currently, the only MW or LHW fights that are televised are the title fights.

I was thinking more about how they are going to promote their fighters than how they are going to televise events. But I do want to see the champions fighting more often and not having to wait while we watch second rate LHW title fights.

I don’t like Tapia.. This looks like its going to be a good fight, but I got Torres stopping in at least in the 3rd round.

i agree.. UFC, WEC, DREAM, then the others fall.. Affliction has some big names, but they’ve only put on one show, and the fights were not exactly blockbuster, but pretty one-sided with few exceptions. EliteXC and Strikeforce aren’t too far behind the top 3 either.

I agree. It should be a good fight. The Torres/Maeda fight was bad ass. Too bad they stopped it. It still could have gone either way.
I dont care who wins. Im just stoked about it.

No its a good thing they stopped that fight. Maeda was getting pummelled with that eye closed. If he would have kept fighting he would have been sleeping or even worse his orbital bone could have been broken and then he could be out for awhile. With that stoppage a future rematch is definetly interesting to all the fans

i got torres FTW with some crafty submission, should be a war though. thats what i love about 135, kmockouts happen but generally these guys dont have KO power. and theyre all very fast. makes for fast paced WARS!!

Iv been wanting Tapia to fight for the title since Chase Beebe Was champ. Now that Miguel Angel is champ, he has a tougher test aheah of him.
