Diaz dust up at UFC Fight Night 15 post-fight presser

Props: SportsIllustrated.com
"In what was a baffling and undoubtedly rare moment for the media, Nate Diaz was short of salacious quotes about his latest win and opponent Josh Neer. Diaz's time was limited in dropping four-letter bombs. Why? Because Nate had barely taken his seat in front of reporters at the post-fight press conference when his older brother Nick launched into a tirade that disrupted the interview and left the UFC staff with the unenviable task of keeping the Diaz clan from causing a scene. Good luck with that one. Nate abandoned the press conference as his brother shouted profanities at no one in particular, and together they took their rant into the hallway. Yes, the notorious potty-mouthed pair struck again. Maybe this was Nick's way paying his family back for their feud with the Noons' at EliteXC on Showtime in June. All about reciprocities in the Diaz household."
Several reports indicate that Nick and Nate Diaz were involved in some type of situation after UFC Fight Night 15: "Diaz vs. Neer;" however, it's unclear at this time what triggered the reaction. Nate apparently answered just one question at the post-fight press conference and then Nick "caused a scene" at which time the brothers up and left. Nick is an Octagon veteran who now fights under the Elite XC banner. Nate -- The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 winner -- is a fast-rising star in the UFC 155-pound division. We'll provide more context to this hopefully soon as more information becomes available.

I like watching Nate fight, but I just can’t help but think the kid is a total dumbass. Too bad…

Off topic but did anybody mention Evan Tanner during the broadcast?
by Robert on Sep 19, 2008 10:41 AM EDT up reply actions
Eric Schafer dedicated his fight to Tanner in his post-fight interview with Rogan, but I don’t recall the UFC (Rogan, Goldie, or Dana) officially recognizing Tanner during the show, which is strange because I thought I had read an article prior to the UFN stating that the entire night would be dedicated to Tanner, complete with a moment of silence while a video montage played on the big screen. But I don’t think that ever came to fruition. If it did then I missed it. I did read an article yesterday that said Spike is putting together a special tribute show for Tanner in the next month or two but we’ll just have to wait and see.

there was a short silent dedication at the beginning of the broadcast (at least where I live there was).

Yes, it aired on the broadcast. Still photo of Tanner with the words In Loving Memory of Evan Tanner, 1971-2008. Or something to that effect.

LIsten up:
Today, on Satalite radio (not sure what channel), they will be interviewing KJ “Bitch made” Noons, so I am sure he will be forced to address the Diaz situation as well as Nate’s comments. I do not have Satalite Radio, so I would appreciate it if someone, or Mania could keep me posted about the Highlights of the interview.
Thanks

Not a big surprise. I like these guys a lot, but there is always some sort of drama where these guys go.

Same here… At least Nate seems to be the more level headed one, hence walking away after one question. I am sure he knows he has a golden opportunity with the UFC and doesn’t want to cause problems with his bosses. I think some of you should lighten up on the kid. As far as Nick, who knows…

Nick has always been unhinged. I believe its gotton worse over time. There were high expectations of him in Elite XC and in other organizations but has underperformed and has been inconsistent. Great one moment mediocre another. Although I love how the Diaz brother’s fight, at the very least Nick needs a shrink to solve the demons in his head. All those fatties have been wacken that pimp daddy.

Just a complete stab in the dark but maybe he was yelling at Karo who was in the crowd for fight night and could has possibly been lingering around duing the interviews. Could be some pay back for the dust up with Nate. My other theory is he is trying to stir public controversy to maybe get his foot in the door with the ufc by starting a fued with another fighter leaving the fans to wonder what would happen if they fought. Fairly intellegent for the dumbass because he it created enough stir and people would pay to see the hate fight then Dana might re consider his banishment of nick. Just spit ballin!
by shaze on Sep 19, 2008 10:07 AM EDT reply actions
did you notice Rogan making the comment about Karo loving the judo throws Nate did? I wonder if that dig on Karo maybe pissed him off enough to say something (it was a little backhanded compliment in my opinion).

I absolutely love watching Nate fight—his transitions from move to move are fantastic.
That said, he truly is straight outta Compton, so the behavior doesn’t surprise me. If someone can’t help Nate realize that it’s a career limiting move, he’ll be joining Nick in the JV leagues.

Thanks for the link. Was Guida being sarcastic at the end of that clip when shrugged and said, “big surprise”? Meaning something along the lines of “that’s typical Diaz brother behavior for you”. That’s what I got from it which had me laughing my ass off but maybe I’m reading too much into it.

True, it’s a shame Nick hasn’t missed weight too, then he would be a bigger douche than Guida’s bro…… oh……. wait….
Nick wins, if you consider being lowest a win. Maybe they could give a shot to womens MMA, weight is more a suggestion than a rule there.

I usually hate when people act out like that but I have gotten used to them and I find it entertaining. It is a poor representaion of the sport. I was pleased with Nates win and he showed all due respect to Josh Neer. I hope Nate stays in the UFC and stays out of trouble, I don’t see Nick coming back anytime soon unfortunately.

It is a shame that these two have so much talent, yet so little class. I just don’t get the whole Stockton wig-wag show. You would think their gym would be trying to mentor them away from the gangsta mentality. Everyone must be so proud. This is a business – part fighting and part PR (interviews and press conferences). You would think someone would drive it home that this is not a liquor store parking lot.

Ok I like Nick Diaz as much as anybody else but successful after leaving the UFC?
Beat GOMI – overruled because he was high.
Barely got through Mike Aina, a nobody that he got a split decision against.
Noons beat him, cut or no cut, KJ beat him.
Then what else, a scrub like thomas denny?
Seriously, Nick fans are too high up on his horse. Nick’s a good fighter at best, he has shitty gameplans and his weak punching in bunches strategy is failing him.

i agree. someone needs to make a “how not to fck up your mma career like nick diaz” guide for little bro nate. i think nate will be a better fighter than nick ever was or will be as long as he doesnt follow the same path. pretty bad when the little brother is the more mature one.

I think you might find that Nick is holding a grudge with someone, he wasnt allowed in certain areas of the stadium in Nates first big show and Nate stated that in his post fight interview, stating he wanted more respect shown for him and his brother. I think the ufc should be looking to get Nick back in the ufc, hes a very exciting and talented fighter, and lets not forget he lost very close fights to these guys at a very young age. He will have improved a hell of a lot since then!!
plus id love to see the Karo v Nick Diaz 2, wouldnt you?? I also truly believe he could be a really tough fight for GSP with his style of fighting and skill set??

Why doesnt anybody talk about these guys being an embarrassment to MMA but love to say Kimbo is? These dudes are the reason MMA has a hard time getting taken seriously, people watching this with their kids had to hear Diaz saying “shit” “ass” “fuck” during a post fight interview? Why?
by Dolemite on Sep 19, 2008 12:22 PM EDT reply actions
Yes, the Diaz bros. are the #1 reason MMA isn’t teken seriously by some…because they are sooooo influential on everything this world has to offer ;)….lmfao.
But Dana, on the other hand…the President of the biggest MMA company in the world saying “shit” “ass” “fuck” every second word has no influence on any of it.

Diaz brothers get in their and fight and state their opinions. Who cares how they behave? If they lose out on sponsors or purse money it’s for them to live with and they know it.
This ain’t golf, this ain’t tennis. And the fan base needs to get off their high horse with their Rich Franklin is such a great spokesperson blah blah blah. Everyone abandoned the guy when he got smashed .
Diaz’s know that you only are as good as your last fight and if you lose your out there and if you win you are out there in Danas world.

To be fair Riggs back then had a title shot but failed to make weight against Hughes?!
I just think Nick Diaz has some silky skills and would be a force, just my opinion. So if thats the case rampage has to go, as does melvin, hermes, sherk etc…… just because they are the way they are doesnt mean they shoul be banished from the sport!!!
by mo on Sep 19, 2008 12:36 PM EDT reply actions
nick is a gutsy fighter, but cant seem to win the big one. the sherk fight was pretty much a kick-boxing match and he lost to a guy who is pretty much a natural lw. he gave diego and karo tough fights, but thats like saying he’s the josh burkman of the ufc, someone who can hang with the top 10 guys, but never win, if zuffa brought nick back, i think he would be more suited for the wec right now in his career. carlos condit doesnt have alot of stiff competiton at ww and that would be a more intresting match-up to me than karo/nick 2. karo has too many problems right now. if nick could beat condit, then he could talk about going back to the ufc’s loaded ww division.

by McArthur on Sep 19, 2008 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions
That fight would never even go to the ground. BJ’s standup is lightyears ahead of Nate’s. Let’s see Nate v. Joe Stevenson 1st. They recently have Neer and Batman in common, plus we already know what BJ did to Stevenson.
by SaVaGe on Sep 19, 2008 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Hey, I like diaz, but how can you possibly think he could make it a good fight with Penn? BJ would hospitalize him! His standup is far superior, and his jits is f’in NUTS. There’s nowhere that Diaz has even a small advantage. Sure his reach is longer, but he has NO, and I mean NO knockout power, and Penn has a granite chin.
by chefdaddy on Sep 20, 2008 1:45 AM EDT up reply actions
I don’t see how you can say it wouldn’t be a good fight, Chef. BJ’s standup is more technical with his boxing but to call it far superior is exaggerating. If anything, both their length and unorthodox nature of the Diaz Bros. boxing makes it highly effective. And when have you ever seen BJ be as aggressive with his BJJ as Nate has been doing? Penn may be more decorated and highly touted but I would love to see him use it more.
I know this sounds like I am Penn bashing. I think there is little doubt he would beat Nate handily. At the same time, you said it wouldn’t be a good fight. I think it would be very entertaining.

It looked to me as if Nate was actually acting responsibly by getting up & getting the hell out before the incident escalated into something more serious.
He was calmly answering questions, when he became aware of the fracus in the scrum, he gets up, says that’s it, and leaves.
I don’t see how this is on Nate in any way other than his relationship with Nick.
