Ultimate Fighter castoff Jason Guida inks deal with Elite XC

Light heavyweight fighter Jason Guida (17-17) -- brother of UFC lightweight contender Clay Guida -- recently squandered perhaps the biggest opportunity of his fighting career when he was booted off the first episode of "The Ultimate Fighter" (TUF) 8 for failing to make the 205-pound division limit.
However, apparently Elite XC officials felt he still had enough talent and name recognition to sign him to the Pro Elite roster, according to FiveOuncesOfPain.com.
Guida has had an up and down career (as evidenced by his record), but he has proven in the past that he can hang with some pretty decent fighters. In fact, he holds wins over Marvin Eastman, Ron Faircloth, Ron Fields (twice) and Mike Van Meer.
None of those guys are at the elite level, but they all have a ton of experience and are tough as nails.
He's also been in the cage and came up on the losing end to guys like Vernon White, Travis Wiuff, Terry Martin, Thales Leites and Eric Schafer.
In short, he's not worried about too much when he's in there. Guida pretty much just comes to fight, and win or lose, he leaves it all in the cage.
Last night's TUF episode didn't do him any favors as far as winning fans over. Unfortunately for him perception is reality. And the show made him look unprofessional and lazy. That's certainly a far cry from the workhorse mentality and complete professionalism his brother has shown during his time in the UFC and perhaps Jason shares those same attributes.
Time will tell.

Please welcome another chump for Antonio Silva to knock out.
I swear if it wasn’t for his brother noone would give a shit.

Its not the fans that he has to worry about.
At 30+ you cannot put your body through that kind of yo-yo weight gain/loss all the time w/o some bad side effects.
He better start thinking about getting a real job after EliteXC bites the big one.

Bigfoot’s a HW while Tub o’ Goo Guida is LHW. Maybe he should move up a weight class so he can have all the cheeseburgers his little heart desires.
by chefdaddy on Sep 18, 2008 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions
Well I was considering that he’d just admit he’s a fatty and fight at HW to save him the hassle of making weight. You’re right but if the other option is fighting Rafael Feijao instead he is gonna last all of 5 seconds when he suffers a devastating K.O.

boobies….. whoops, wrong thread, my bad. who’s are bigger, gina’s or jasons. gross!

Elite XC is all about signing big name – no talent fighters. What a joke. Signing Jason simply proves this statement. Everything he did on the show was a perfect example of what not to do as a fighter, what the hell did they see in him? I don’t think they were watching the right show.

I’ll retract the statement only when regarding Nick Diaz.

HAHAHAHA GABE GUIDA! He said i didnt want to pull a GABE, and now look!

I think Guida gets the Oscar though. It’s a tough call. Guida had twig and berry exposing cramps, puking and screaming only to miraculously feel better enough to argue with the athletic commission. Gabe had tears. Razor thin man, razor thin.

Yea that was funny as hell. all of those shananagins, then BAM he is ok and walking around.
by Crazy on Sep 18, 2008 6:40 PM EDT up reply actions
well, common, isn’t that how anyone gets anywhere in this world, it’s about who you know, and well although he is a 500 fighter, maybe going into a good division of fighters will wake him up and have him become a better fighter just like his brother

A win over Marvin Eastman? Wow, the UFC is definitely missing out on this guy. Learn to cut weight, chubby.

Hey, a win over Eastman gets some guys a title shot…
by BNF on Sep 18, 2008 12:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Ha ha. Right! Forgot about Quinton “Crazy Taxi” Jackson. I actually seen Eastman live in his first pro fight against Rampage in 2000 in California. He won via decision.

Loss to Vernon White = You’ll never be an elite fighter. Vernon has lost to pretty much everyone that became great.

One more top notch HW for the EliteXC roster!

Just shows Elite XC lack of fighter roster and ability to find real quality talent that hasnt screwed up their UFC career…a majority of them have been UFC rejects with the ocassional guy with a win

To my eyes, he still looked very flabby and soft at 207, or whatever he was. He probably needs to be at 185, but clearly is short on discipline.
by CL on Sep 18, 2008 12:28 PM EDT reply actions
Agreed. For having the same DNA as Clay, he didn’t look like he had lifted more than a Twinkie for the last year! Hell, I’m in better shape than Jason is! It was a joke – worse than Gabe R. IMO
by TheProfessor on Sep 19, 2008 10:19 AM EDT up reply actions
Tell me they didn’t throw Clay and Jason A bone by even leting this guy walk into the training center. No one else in the world would have gotten in at 17-17. Nepotism at it finest.

Didn’t EXC do this last year when the guy got kicked off for herpes on his neck? How has that worked out for him?

TUF tryouts. so easy a caveman can do it? Apparently not.

Ha!
I like those commercials. Very subtle and witty.
by OJR on Sep 18, 2008 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions
And this guy usually fights at 185?! What the hell was he doing walking around at 217? Especially when he knows he going out for TUF. Even dehydrated, down to 207, he still looked all lumpy and soft. He certainly doesn’t share his brother’s work ethic!
And put on some clothes for f*ck sakes!
by JRK on Sep 18, 2008 12:57 PM EDT reply actions
Especially when Mir & Co. had him lying on his back w/ his legs open.
You could not pay me enough $$$ to stretch out his dehydrated legs while trying to avoid looking at his twig and berries.
Fuck that!
by OJR on Sep 18, 2008 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions
Ha ha, funny stuff. What’s even funnier is that he only had to weigh in at 206… What did he actually weigh in at??? 207! A pound over! LMAO, that’s hard to swallow. funny sh*t!

I loved how he said he had been dealing with cutting weight all of his life. Then they watch him getting sick and writhing in pain from cramps. The definition of a professional.
by Ballam on Sep 18, 2008 1:04 PM EDT reply actions
I used to wrestle when I was younger. For like 11 years actually. I put alot of time into cutting weight, and it never got easier on my body. I had to deal with cramps and stuff like that regularly while cutting. It is true, it does do that to you. Dont talk shit about something that you obviously no nothing about.
I agree that he should have made weight. That is still no reason to talk shit about what it did to him when he was cutting.

He is fighting Mamed Khalidov on the Oct. 10 ShoXC card.
Khalidov will be a HUGE favorite.

You guys are COMPLETE tools.
EliteXC signed Jason Guida to be the sacrificial lamb to their stud prospect Mamed Khalidov, who rejected an offer from the UFC to fight for them earlier this year.
Mamed Khalidov is who EliteXC is looking to build up in the LHW or MW division, not Jason Guida, for a HUGE fight against Rafael Feijao or Robbie Lawler.

i honestly think that if i were in his shoes i would have busted out the razor and shaved my whole body. not only that, if he waited an hour he probably would have made weight; due to all that purging all at once, his kidneys were probably swollen and honestly causing him to retain. he said for 500 bucks he’d fight chuck lidel, i say let give him a grand and make that fight happen! but overall no one would know a 17-17 fighter, if it were not for his hard working brother clay.
