Is this the type of radio show where I can call in and say disrespectful and offensive things directed at Rashad? I really can’t stand him… I can’t wait till Forrest beats him down and then chokes him unconscious!

by BNF on Sep 15, 2008 6:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Same with me BNF, it’s funny how everyone was saying chuck would beat him, then he Ko’s chuck, and everybody is calling chuck washed up and “Suga” the next champ. People jump on board to easily, I can’t wait for Forrest to make him Tap, or hopfully show’s us he can KO. Rashad will not Beat Griffin.

by Chase on Sep 15, 2008 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

People aren’t really jumping on his bandwagon. He is being called the next champ because he is the next fighter to get a title shot and many people believe he can beat the current gump, I mean Champ!

by john on Sep 15, 2008 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

John, yeah I just never liked Rashad, Chucks been exposed, and rashad capitalized on his weakness (dropping his left hand). Griffin is my favorite at 205, I want him to give Rashad his first loss, and I hope he will. and Forrest is not a gump lol.

I am totally serious in saying that I have been a HUGE Rashad fan since TUF 2 and have been on his bandwagon ever since. Saying that, I can still see why some people don’t like him. He can be a little arrogant and I too, do not care for the few times he’s danced around and failed his limbs in the octagon but you have to admit that he’s come a long way since the show. I’ve been waiting for him to let loose and throw caution to the wind and he’s finally done that. I think the sky is the limit for Rashad. During the show he really was just a wrestler. He had no other skills to speak of. He learned how to strike during the show from one of the best…Rich Franklin. He’s a smaller LHW (although I think he’s filling out now) and he won the heavyweight TUF and beat 5 guys on the show. Since then he’s had some ugly and controversial wins but he’s never lost. You have to give a guy props going 7-0-1 in the octagon no matter who the opponents are. His striking has come light years from where it was during the show and his footwork is top notch now. His hand speed is arguably the best in the MMA at LHW. He’s a serious threat to anyone in the division on his feet and still has incredible wrestling to fall back on. If he had any type of submission game (which we don’t know if he does since he’s never used it) he’d be talked about in the same sentences as Shogun and Rampage…icons of the division.

Having said all that…he’s going to be the next champ. Forrest has great all around skills and I know that Randy is going to come up with a solid game plan for the fight but lets not forget that Jackson knows a thing or two about game plans and Rashad is going to look different than he did in the fight against Chuck. I’m looking forward to seeing how Forrest will fare if he takes an overhand right like Chuck did. I think Rashad is going to pepper Forrest with jabs and if he wants to clinch…he’s going to eat some uppercuts and get taken down. Forrest has a lot of hear and is a very durable fighter in terms of his gas tank but he’s not excellent in any one area that defines a fighter (submission, striking, clinch, wrestling, judo, etc…). I think that is what will be the difference in the fight. Forrest doesn’t excel at anything but he executes to the best of this ability and is a smart fighter.

i didnt give rashad a chance against chuck. i cant wait to see him get really tested with forest. this is going to be ansome fight

by COR on Sep 15, 2008 7:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

COR – Agreed. I had Chuck slated to win handily, but by 1 minutes into R2, I was already calling for Rashad. He was way faster than Chuck, landed increasingly fast and vicious combos, actually rocked Chuck a little about 30 seconds before the KO.

Looking forward to seeing Forrest vs. Rashad.

Looking even more forward to the four-man heavyweight title tourney.

Fuck Rashad and his fans! Shogun needs to kick this puss in the face and show him he’s still a chump.

by HitmanBert on Sep 15, 2008 10:52 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Would that be before or after Forrest chokes him out. Just because Shogun was a badass back in the day doesn’t mean he has evolved as Chuck hasn’t. It is a different game today.

by halljam2 on Sep 15, 2008 11:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yes it is.. and Forrest will lose the title to, that he didn’t even win to Rashad, Rashad has actually showed something, Forrest beat a fat and out of shape Shogun and a Rampage that had a way to long break and was not in the same form he was before because of that..

by RoB on Sep 15, 2008 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rob, I agree But that should be held against them not forrest.

by CLETIS on Sep 16, 2008 8:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Rampage took that fight lightly. Looking back at his actions and comments on the show I think he thought it would be a walk. Rashad is going to beat Forrest like it or not. After that if Lyoto gets the next shot he will likely edge Rashad in a decision if it goes to the cards.

by halljam2 on Sep 15, 2008 11:33 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

im sorry but I truly still believe that if rashad and chuck fought again the outcome would be different!! props to rashad he executed his game plan and landed his A game punch on chuck, nobody in the division would have took that! My big problem with chuck is he refuses to use one of his key tools, his kicking, he could have slowed rashad downand mixed it up, then went for some bombs, just a little predictable in the fight and was waiting to be hit. he never moved after throwing and made it a little easy to be hit, rashad attempted that overhand well over ten times in the fight and it was the mistake chuck made that he should have maybe seen coming??

Hes still a major force in the division, maybe just a ittle stubborn and refuses to mix it up a little. he now has to use the weakness his strength, he knows that other fighters feel they have a way to beat him now, he can use that as his strength and dominate again, he still has the skills and power to beat anyone there is no doubt about that, he just has to modify and mix up his skill set!!!! Come on chuck get back in there soon and prove all these haters wrong!!

Dude Chuck is 39, his time is over. Its hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

rashad evan vs. loyoto machida in the future….

by mad_drummer on Sep 16, 2008 9:14 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’ve been saying it for the longest (since TUF), Rashad has always had the right foundation to build on. Speed, athletics and agility. All he had to do was get in the right camp and be willing to work hard and follow instruction. The rest would happen naturally. Now that all of those things have fallen into place we are seeing him live up to his true potential.

Some of you complain about his personality, debate that he has no star quality and complain about the way he moves in the cage but none of you realize that none of those things have anything to do with whether or not you win fights.

You dont have to be a fan of someone in order to respect their skills. I cant stand the personalities of Brock Lesnar, Mayhem Miller or Chuck Liddell to name a few but I root for them when appropriate and I worry when my favorite fighters face them. Why? Because I respect what they bring to the fight and I recognize their abilities.

Although it adds a level of emotion to it all, i dont need to appreciate the people as long as i appreciate the sport.

enjoyed yesterday’s interview. it was down to earth. Rashad and his whole camp are good ambassadors for the sport and they don’t get the respect that they deserve. He has a great attitude, analysis and a good role model for other fighters. Guys like him are the future. Oh and also a nightmare of a overhand right.

the reason why (in my opinion) people are not immediately embracing the guy is because
1. he’s of wrestling pedigree – not the most exciting style of fight to watch. People aren’t interested enough.
2. he faced 2 of the most popular fighters there are: Tito & Chuck. If my team is the Lakers and Phoenix beats the Lakers, doesn’t mean I’m going to switch over and be a Suns fan. The people hating on Rashad were just bigtime Chuck followers and nothing personal.

us fans talk sh*t, mostly for fun and to get each other fired up. but also, thats the way its sold to us. don’t get me wrong, mma is the sh*t the way it is right now. ignorent fans like me will always be around and mma needs us. look how many crazy f*cks are in football. how many of them actually know the rules? but if theres more people talking about stats, strategy, john madden play by play analysis, it MIGHT appeal more to the masses(theoretically) and the hater ratio will go down. But thats a whole nother topic of conversation. This post is getting long. I’ll be looking forward to Rashad vs. Forrest. Much respect.

also just wanted to add… it makes perfect sense that going straight at chuck (or tito, in machida’s case) is not a good idea strategicly. and it boils down to how people interpret the sport and what they want to see. its easier for most people who get in fights to relate and want to see a brawl, or at least some cool moves, rather than a competition of strategy and wits. not sure if that will ever change.

by kama kaze on Sep 16, 2008 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What you posted makes sense. I guess I wasnt look at it from a team perspective because its a one-on-one sport. After reading your Lakers/Suns example I can view things from a slightly different angle now. Good post.
