Mac Danzig: 'I'm going for that first round finish' of Clay Guida at UFC Fight Night 15

Props: UFC.com
Quoteworthy:
"Clay is one of the coolest people I’ve met in the fight game. One of the things that makes him dangerous isn’t necessarily his skills, but his intensity and heart. He’s constantly moving forward and has a good work ethic. He goes for the whole fifteen minutes ... I know that I’m going to win. I think I have an advantage in training with guys who, skill-wise, are better than Clay. I know what he’s going to bring to the table. I just have to work on stopping him and controlling the pace. The best-case scenario: I end it in the first round. I’m not going to say how, but I’m going for that first round finish."
Season six winner of The Ultimate Fighter, Mac Danzig, talks about his upcoming UFC Fight Night 15 co-main event bout against Clay Guida at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Neb., on September 17. Danzig has not lost since he joined the promotion, winning his last two fights via submission against Tommy Speer and Mark Bocek, respectively. He has 10 first round finishes in 23 professional fights.

i think this will make for a great fight. mac has real good technique and clay guida is just an animal. it should be high paced with excellent scrambles. its hard for me to pick a winner, cuz i can see mac choking guida out, and i can see guida outworking him to a decision. gonna be a good fight though.

I agree it’s really hard to bet on anyone here, Guida is a work horse in there. Either way I think it’s going to be a great night of fights.

No chance of Mac ending it in round 1.
Should be fight of the night, but I smell a decision!
Everytime I get sick of listening to Danzig, I pop in my Pride 33 dvd and watch Mach Knock is block off! I watched it yesterday that why its fresh on my mind

Man I caught myself reading it in the low raspy annoying voice in my head. I hate this prick! I’d have to say technically speaking, danzig is better, but guida’s style should be tough for danzig to handle. I hope Guida ko’s this douche!

guida isn’t KO’ing anyone, but I also hope Danzig looses, so hope for a decision win by Clay!

I think that this is Mac’s fight to lose. I hope you guys are all right and Clay opens as the favorite. BetUs is really sleeping on this event. They have odds for like 6 WEC fights in November, but only the main event for this UFN.
Has anyone seen odds to this fight anywhere BESIDES playground???
I would LOVE to pick up Mac as any sort of an underdog. I got him as the favorite to win this fight.

Mac actually said something respectful.
Really looking forward to this match, hoping I can actually watch it.

i wonder if Clay has learned to strike yet :|

Clay’s striking is good. Plus his scramble is top of the class.

Clay’s chin is good! I think! I can’t actually see it! But, I don’t see Mac KO’ing Clay. I say it will go the distance, if Mac don’t gas trying to keep up. Clay wins on all three cards!

Danzig for mine, unless Clay has smartened up. But i doubt it, Clay is a brawler and Danzig should out smart him.

Hopefully Clay will start getting his older/wiser on and start puttin ghis maniac pace to work with a much more refined gameplan. I’d love to see Guida work his way up higher on the chain.

Would love to see the vegan freak get knocked out cold by Guida.

Danzig has the personality of, well, a houseplant. He doesn’t have ANY inflection in his voice, like he could tell you that his best friend died or he won the lottery all in the same tone.

Hey man, lay off the house plants. What did they ever do to you?
Seriously though, I like Clay but I think Danzig is too smart for him. I used to think more of Guida but after seeing quite a few of his fights, I tend to agree with much of the sentiment above, in that, he’s basically a “good” fighter with a “great” heart. So, as much as I don’t care for Danzig’s attitude at times, the guy is a true fighter and will bring a real fight to Clay (with a well thought out gameplan).

I think this will end up looking like Florian-Huerta, with the more technical Danzig playing the role of Florian.

i think mac will take first two rounds and clay will pick up the last in a dominating fashion but will go to a slit decision either way i hope clay wins though

Didn’t Danzig have some issues with cardio during TUF? He seemed to get winded pretty quickly. If Guida pushes the pace and can avoid a submission, Danzig could be in trouble.
by VNDK8 on Sep 15, 2008 10:11 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
When was this VNDK8? He subbed all his opponents in the 1st round as I recall.
I agree Guida always pushes the pace but Mac has been to 3 decision in the last 2 years so I wouldnt question his cardio.
Mac takes this one IMO.

Hope Danzig isn’t to over confident because that shaggy dog Guida is a gamer! I really don’t care who wins this one, their both wierd in their own special way. I think it will be a great fight that will go the distance. (Guida, you need a haircut dude!)
by brac on Sep 15, 2008 10:23 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
This should be a good one. I think Danzig is too strong for Guida and will be able to sub him for sure. I am curious to see how well Danizg can handle Guida’s pace and cardio.

Split decisions to Griffin, Melendez, and Aurelio cannot go unnoticed. Guida also beat James Thomson which makes it hard to pick Danzig but all it takes is 1 slick sub or a big knee, which he has in his arsenal. We’ve seen Guida get rocked and wobbled. 15 minutes is a lot of time. I’m picking the strategist, Danzig to land bombs, capitalizing off sloppyness, breakthrough performance, fight of the night.

I see Guida close to winning the fight in the third round until Andy Wang aka Samurai hops the fence and knocks out Guida with a chairshot. Danzig then takes the fast three count and draws amazing heat for their next fight at SummerSlam Eleventy Billion.
Just a thought…
:D
WAR GUIDA!!
by Jay K. on Sep 16, 2008 12:50 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
It could go either way! But, I think Clay moves too much and too quickly for Danzig to get a good hold of him. With all those shakes, hops, gyrations, etc….. it’s gonna be difficult to grab him! And Guidas been in with better competition than Mac! No disrespect to Mac, of course! If I was Mac, I’d put a huge window-fan at ringside to blow all that hair out of Guida’s face! That way, I could see where to punch! lol

Oh yeah! I still say Guida by decision!
