Houstons arm or leg is going to get ripped off on Wednesday. Also, someone should tell Sakara that you’re not supposed to block knees and punches with your face.

I think Sakara sometimes forgets that his opponent is wearing 8 oz gloves, not 16 like in boxing! I hope he does well in his next fight, he needs a win!

yees.. cause if there was a boxing tournament with all the UFC’s 185 pounders in it, i’m sure Alessio would get out on top..

he was very well spoken and marketable and he has knock out power, I think Dana and the boys are very smart for sighning him. either he gets knocked out or he knockes some one out!

thats it? i was in debate between 8 and 6, but 4oz? jeez might as well be bare knuckle

He’ll either knock him out or he’ll get knocked out. That’s how all of his fights have played out this far.

by kevin doesn't know shit on Sep 15, 2008 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i never bought into him, even when he won they where quick ko’s hard to judge his overall ability on that and than he got exposed, i do like his story and hope he does good but i could see him getting submitted by eric and being a prelim fighter that you never see again if they don’t just cut him all together.

Forget the ground game. All houston needs is some takedown defense. If he can keep the fight standing he has a chance to win some fights. However, I wont hold my breath.
Dont care too much about this fight at all! I absolutely HATE 1 dimensional grapplers vs. 1 dimensional strikers match ups! I still have that terrible taste from the Cote vs. Almeida fight. Joe Silva needs to erase these stupid match ups and make better match ups stylistically. I mean whats the point of this fight? If it stays standing for 2 minutes, Houston will kill him….If it goes to the ground for 2 minutes, the ugly red head will rip his arm off. WHO CARES????

I hope Houston took his time and did nothing but train take down defense and scrambling. I’d like to see this guy get it together, obviously he’s too old to dominate the ground game or become a submission master but he could learn to defend the takedown pretty well and stay off the ground. With his style he could easily produce some classic brawling match ups with some of the better strikers at LHW. And yea, Irvin caught him with a superman punch, but that could’ve been anyone. Jonathan Goulet got caught by ludwig a few secs in to a match and
Emerson just KO’d Manny real quick into their fight. Doesn’t make those guys bad fighters.
by O damn he got caught on Sep 15, 2008 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree O DAMN, anyone can get caught, especially if you fight in a routine way. as triners get more film on you you have to change your habits to where you dont have habits, or they will set up traps for you like Irvins trainer did. He said his trainer told himm if he could get houston to trail him like that he would be succeptible to the superman punch. Just like chuck, they have all found out the best way to beat him is to use his best move, counterpunching with an overhand right. Randy used rampages weaknesses to set up Forrests win. You have to mix your style up or you will get caught, period.

I think this is a good match-up for Houston. Houston by 1st round capital offense. Nebraska is in the House!!!!

oh man, he seems quite likeable. i hope he has a good fight, losing 3 straight would suck.
by eightyproof on Sep 15, 2008 1:12 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yea, he wins 2 in devastating fashion against mid level popular guys, then loses 2 by TKO and KO….I still think Houston has NO chance on the ground with anyone in MMA….he just doesnt have the skills…at least not yet. I suspect Eric will take him down right away and submit him. BJJ 101 style.

How about a submission only match between Kimbo Slice and Houston Alexander then. He probably better than Kimbo at least..

I like him too…seems like a nice guy that also likes to stand and throw. He also seems to be a smart guy, so I am sure he is more aware then any of the Houston haters of where is weaknesses lye and has taken steps to correct them.
I like to think of Houston as a very entertaining, well spoken, work in progress and I am glad the UFC awarded him the 5 fight contract.

I really hope Houston wins, he brings nice fights and thinks about the audience ^^

They’re putting him against someone who will not test his chin. Obviously Houston “I wasn’t out!” Alexander needs to work on his ground game for this, but I can’t see Schafer winning by ko / tko like the other guys who beat him.

Lets hope Houston trains for a better ground game and STILL gets the knock out.

His five extension fights should be: Chuck Lidell, AxeMurderer, Sokoju, Anderson Silva, and Stephan Bonner.

Houston may take him down and try to overwhelm him with GnP…I think red would fold if Houston came right out, took him down, and beat him up like Sakara…that could also be a complete mistake…I’m excited to see this….
