David Loiseau inches closer to UFC return with win over Solomon Hutcherson

David Loiseau defeated Solomon Hutcherson over the weekend via fifth round technical knockout to earn the Xtreme MMA (XMMA) middleweight title at the Claude Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal, Canada.
It was a big (and gutsy) win for "The Crow" -- his third straight since a controversial split decision loss Jason Day earlier this year -- because it gets him once step closer to a UFC return.
The Canadian was at one time a top 185-pound title contender. In fact, he challenged then-champion Rich Franklin for his belt at UFC 58: "USA vs. Canada" in 2006, losing to "Ace" in a lopsided unanimous decision.
Loiseau had won four of five bouts inside the Octagon, including stoppages of Evan Tanner, Charles McCarthy and Mark Weir, to earn the opportunity.
After the loss to Franklin, however, Loiseau dropped three of his next four and fell of the radar. He was cut from the promotion rather abruptly after a unanimous decision loss to Mike Swick at UFC 63: "Hughes vs. Penn" in September 2006.
Loiseau -- who trains with welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and Patrick Cote, among others -- has been working hard ever since in smaller shows to be invited back.
And he may have done it this weekend, which would be good news for him and the middleweight division.

Ah, gotta disagree with you on that one. If, and I do mean if, he can return to the Crow of old, he would make an exciting re-addition. He won’t challenge for the belt (but really, who would?), but there would be some great fights for the fans.

I wish the crow of old would show up, but I wont count on it. I think he has been destroyed mentally and is a shell of his former self. I used to enjoy his fighting style but he fell off because he wasnt mentally strong.
The decline of the crow reminds me of Vitor’s!

I’d say his mental conditioning is no longer a problem. A separeated shoulder in the first half of the first round, then he got his ass handed to him in the next two rounds (Solomon looked good too) to go on to win it in the 4th. It was a very good fight, the whole card was good except for a disqualification that should have been a point deduction, the whole card was fantastic.
MFC and XMMA are canadian orgs that are becoming quite the breeding pool for mixed martial artists, as TKO has done in the past. TKO has provided us with The CROW, GSP, Pat Cote, Goulet and many others. I LOVE IT! now if they could only legalize it in Ontario we would be Laughing.

Yeah, but it looks like Vitor is back (a few more fights and we’ll know for sure), so hopefully The Crow can continue his comeback and get back to the UFC. Let’s hope his high-level training partners can help bring back the Loiseau of old.
I realize it’s a long shot but I really hope Cote v. Anderson is a good fight. It would be cool for Cote to seize that puncher’s chance and pull off a victory against the Spider.

why owuld u want the best champion in the sport to be replaced by Patrik Cote? I get it, you are a canadian, but Silva is the best champion that the UFDC has, and you want him replaced?

If Cote wins, he will just lose the title in his first defense. What is the point of that? On the Crow… I would love to see him back. He is an exciting fighter and dude has the nastiest elbows known to man!!!!

No ill will against the Spider guys. Just your usual supporting a fellow countryman/underdog sentiment. I would also love to see Anderson continue his reign and be that great talent for the sport to build off of (ala Tiger, Jordan, Gretzky). I actually just re-watched his fight with Marquart, and the way Silva finished him off was sick. That straight punch while standing in Nate’s guard was brutal. Silva’s precision is ridiculous. That said, I really like Cote and hope that if somebody is going to put a Mat-Serra-like blemish on Anderson’s record, it might as well be Cote.

I saw that fight it was pretty good, XMMA had a pretty good show. Loiseau popped his shoulder in the first round and went on to win in the fourth.

I was just waiting for Slomon to yell out team dagger! Then Loiseau put him away.

Hahahahaha!!! Team Dagger!! That was the first thing I thought of when I saw his name. I was wondering if that was him.

To reflect what I said on another blog (not trying to sound prestigious) But with the total lack of competition at the MW division, the Crow would be a great addition. Guy really is a maniac, and can take easilly prolly all but the top 5 – 7 fighters in the UFC’s MW division.

The original creator of lethal "hell"bows … KenFlo has nothing on The Crow

Agreed…He should come out to some Luda. I just hope that he is the Loiseau of old. I don’t want to see him fight tentatively for a couple rounds and put it one his opponent in the last round like he did against Swick. I want to see an agressive Crow.

Good for him. I was started to think he was done. Nice to see that he was able to string some wins together.

I just want to see him fight someone he could stop maybe even in the first round. if he gets a few more UFC fights under his belt I think him and Kampman would be a great match up.

Glad the Crow is up and flying again. I heard he won with a vicious knee and that was after he seperated his shoulder. Well congrats to the Crow and hopefully he can come back and put on more exciting fights.

You cant go past the Crow. Hes a very exciting fighter and he trains with one of the best pound4pound fighters in the world in GSP
by Waki on Sep 15, 2008 11:02 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
he deserves a chance to prove wether he still has it or not to compete in the ufc. he is indeed an exciting fighter.

He’s been away for a while, I think he deserves a second chance. As long as Silva is around he’ll be stuck in Rich Franklinland- but then again who isn’t.
