ko of the year……no one seen that comming….

by skoler on Sep 12, 2008 12:59 PM EDT reply actions

Absolutely no one saw that coming. Not even Rashad. He shocked himself !

by OJR on Sep 12, 2008 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Alright Rashad, here’s the game plan. Dance around the ring like a ret@rd and run any time Chuck gets near you. Make sure you keep running so that none of the fans enjoy the fight. Next in round two when Chuck gets aggressive, because he actually wants to put on a good show, counter him with the right for the KO. Now that he is out do a gay as$ Fred Sanford impression so that you don’t win over any of Chuck’s fans and to alienate yourself from your fanbase. Go it? Good, now get out there and run baby run.

lol how much money did you lose???

Rashad had a good game plan, plain and simple…

twist em baby twist!

ya – that pretty much sums it up – its not his fault that Chuck’s standup was always shitty, exposed by Rampage, then Jardine, then Rashad of all people

I just really wish it wouldve been Shogun who wouldve KTFO chuck and send him into retirement

Cant wait for Machinda or even Forrest to maul Rashad

DDT-

Just a wee bit bitter? LOL.

by OJR on Sep 12, 2008 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Alright Rashad, here’s the gameplan: “WIN THE FUCKING FIGHT!”

And he did.

by Rich B on Sep 12, 2008 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Hilariously bitter, DDT. I mean, it wasn’t fair! Rashad tricked Chuck into chasing him and then knocked him out when Chuck, noble guy that he is, was just trying to put on a show for the fans! Rashad should be ashamed of himself!

by Ben! on Sep 12, 2008 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Not bitter at all. Didn’t lose any money. Just making fun of Rashad.

That was one of the best highlight reel knockouts of all time. And that makes two great one hit KOs for rashad. I give him all the credit for some great finishes.

That being said…

I am getting a little worried that this new Move and Stick offense will catch on (i.e. Machida and now Evans). I like to watch fighters engage and hope that this type of offencse doesn’t become the next Lay and Pray.

Rashad may just be an expert at both.

by DDT on Sep 12, 2008 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Check that. I did lose a few hundred fake dollars over at MMAPlayground. So yeah maybe a little bitter.

I save all the real money for football so that I can lost it on freaking Rutgers!

by DDT on Sep 12, 2008 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I still don’t see what Rasahad did after the fight that was so bad. He was more composed that Chuck often is. Chuck fans are just having trouble with the idea that Chuck will never be champion again and is basically washed up, hey he is 39 he had his day but its done.

by Aaron_W on Sep 12, 2008 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I actually thiought it was kind of funny…faking a heart attack after just winning a huge upset a la Fred Sanford was actually pretty well thought out.

Mocking a hugely popular legend of the sport after knocking him stupid just doesn’t sit right with most fans. As an up-and-commer you need to try and build a fan base so that people want to see you fight in the future. Nothing, besides that crushing overhand right, did that for Rashad.

I wouldn’t hang Chuck out to dry just yet. I’d be willing to bet that he has a few good wins left in his tank.

by DDT on Sep 12, 2008 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions

How did he mock him?

by Aaron_W on Sep 12, 2008 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

DDT – You’re full of sh*t, but you’re funny. ;)

Tito digs graves, Chuck runs around like a maniac, GSP does back flips, Thiago Silva uses the cutthroat motion… but that lighthearted Fred Sanford impression… now THAT is offensive.

Glad you didn’t lose any real money, you’d be ripping on Rashad’s ancestors back to Adam.

Very funny comment DDT, I do remember Chuck making that same “I am having a heart attack move” when he was in the audience (with a camera on him of course) of a UFC event after a big knock out, Rash-hard was dising him in my opionion too.

by bigmcmac on Sep 12, 2008 10:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Rashad has no respect, just like Tito and the gang. but I do admit that I’m still amused at his antics…

wow.. never would have guessed keith jardine woulda been a great mma strategist.. he must be pretty good for greg jackson, who runs probably one of the two best mma camps there is, to say he will be better coach than him one day.

wow.. never would have guessed keith jardine woulda been a great mma strategist.. he must be pretty good for greg jackson, who runs probably one of the two best mma camps there is, to say he will be better coach than him one day.also, interesting when jackson said “keith jardine, the leader of the team”

by sinister on Sep 12, 2008 1:11 PM EDT reply actions

Jardine has one of the best game plans against Liddell when he outscored The Iceman to put a nice win in his resume.

by TheNegation on Sep 13, 2008 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions

True, but that will never fully compensate for the lost endorsements due to his ugly mug.

by RedDog on Sep 14, 2008 4:20 AM EDT up reply actions

It was interesting to note that Jackson said that the gameplan was for Rashad not to be concerned about winning the first round so much. The purpose of the first round was to get Chuck’s timing down and avoid Chuck to frustrate him into coming forward. At the end of the round Jackson said “Did you get his timing?” and Rashad said he did and then Jackson said “OK, go get him”. What was surprising was that Jackson said he came with the same gameplan that he used with Jardine except Jardine traded more than Rashad in that first round. They knew that Chuck would lower that left hand and when that happened Rashad lowered the boom on Chuck’s jaw. The gameplan was excellent and Rashad implemented it flawlessly. Time for Chuck to change things up and start using some of his other skills.

by Buster Bluth on Sep 12, 2008 1:13 PM EDT reply actions

I agree. I had a bad feeling regarding Chuck when he started stalking Rashad. That’s just not the Chuck I’m used to seeing. He’s much more effective as a counter puncher IMO. He usually doesn’t go in like that until he’s wounded his opponent and can smell the victory. To me, he got a little bit too trigger happy. Having said all that, I give credit to Rashad….he’s no joke.

by Greggo on Sep 12, 2008 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

bUSTER, i NOTICED THAT about what greg said about the 1st round as well. In a 3 round fight, thats a gutsy strategy to basically give away round 1 to your opponent. Leaves the fighter in the position of having to win both rounds 2 and 3, or to knock him out. It worked for Rashad this time but it could have blown up in his face.

I want to see Shad let his hands fly more from here on out!

by john on Sep 12, 2008 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions

It was not only gutsy but it was borderline insane to give Chuck a round for free. Like I said…Jardine’s strategy was the same but at least he traded with Chuck and fed him some leg kicks in the first round. Rashad said that Jardine coached him a lot for the fight and he was the one that told him to be patient and to get Chuck’s timing down cause it isn’t that hard but you can’t teach him how to time it…you have to see it for yourself in the octagon with him. Rashad said that he barely trained his takedowns for this fight…he was only going to use them if he was behind or if Chuck looked tired.

I agree with you about letting his hands go. I think we will see that a lot more from here on out after he has seen the fruits of his labor. I think we’ll some really nice exchanges between him and Forrest. I hope Forrest has that belt all shined up for Rashad.

by Buster Bluth on Sep 12, 2008 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree Buster. I think Shad takes it. Forrest’s inability to end fights is going to cost him in 5 round fights. That gives his opponent 25 minutes to end the fight, and thats a very long time, for Forrest’s glass Jaw to hold up for.

I also think now that Rashad got a little taste of the damage that he can do with his hands, that he wont be as gun shy anymore. I always thought Suga had potential but my beef with him was that he didnt swing enough. Hopefully that will change from here on out.

Shad will be at a HUGE size disadvantage against Forrest, but whats new? Shad is always undersized, but I will never question is KO power again. Forrest “cant Bust a grape” Griffin should make it a good fight, but Rashad has the advantage in that his best freined (jardine) has already fought and beaten Forrest. Should make for a good fight. I dont t hink it willl be over quickly. I see it going into the championship rounds.

Question: How would you rate Shad’s submission defense? If Shad can check those devastating leg kicks and defend submissions, there is no reason why he cant become the next UFC LHW champion

by john on Sep 12, 2008 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know that we’ve really seen Rashad’s sub defense on display. He’s a pretty strong wrestler, certainly not in the class of Lesnar, Kos or GSP, but still pretty good. As a result, he hasn’t been put in defensive positions by submission guys very often, if ever. In the interest of fairness, I must disclose that I did not see his fight against Bisping.

by PW on Sep 12, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

JOHN. i love it! keep picking forrest to lose. every time you go against him, he wins! keep doubdting him. you picking him to lose almost always guarantees victory for the one of the hardest working fighters with one of the biggest hearts out there. a glass jaw? he.he. i love it!

by b.w. on Sep 12, 2008 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions

u think I am the only one that says he has a glass jaw.

You have never once heard me question his work ethic. I just dont think he has the ability of finishing fights.
When I picked Rampage to win, I do so expecting to see the best Rampage version (which clearly did not show up) and I didnt know that Forrest was going to switch his style and go from a Banger, to a stick and move Machida Knock off. Forrest’s style has clearly changed, which was the smart thing to do on his behalf. But his new style needs to be taken into consideration when analyzing fights because the exciting days of Forrest slugging it out are clearly over.

Its not that I dont like Forrest, I just think he never deserved to fight for the title in the 1st place and I am big on that. I like to see people earn the right to shock the world and beat a champion, and I dont think he earned that right to be in the cage with Rampage that night. That is different from me saying that he cant beat Rampage, I just dont think he earned it at that point but thats water under the bridge.

BW: I will honestly continue to pick against Forrest. How could I not? HIs fights from hear on out will be 5 rounders until someone beats him and in a 5 round fight I think Forrest is at a major disadvantage against most fighters that will challenge for his title.

Forrest and Machida are the only ones who havent really shown the ability to finish fights and in the light heavyweight division its a big disadvantage when you got guys like Thiago, wanderlei, Rampage, Chuck, Healthy Shogun, and Rashad now who can end the fight in any minute. They have 25 minutes to win the fight. Forrest has to out work them every single round to win the fight. I believe he is at a major disadvantage.

If Forrest was fighting Soko for 5 rounds, I would pick Soko. NOt hate, its just my oppinion.

Now once he looses the title and gets back to 3 round fights, I will pick him to win more often. I just think 5 rounds is a disadvantage for him. The only thing that helps him in a 5 rounder is his conditioning. Forrest is far from stupid (although he sure looks it). He knows that what he lacks in finishing ability he must make up in conditioning and heart and thats what keeps him in most fights, but you can have all the heart in the world but once those heavy hitters connect on the button, iTS OVER!

by john on Sep 12, 2008 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

john…PW is right. We’ve never seen Rashad in a position where he could be submitted and he hasn’t fought too many submission fighters either. He’s only been on his back a few times and he didn’t stay there long.

I like your analysis of his upcoming fight with Forrest. He’s always undersized but he looked in phenomenal shape against Chuck and he should look the same if not better for a chance at the belt. Forrest’s only real chance is probably with a sumission but he has to get Rashad on his back and that will be very tough.

Rashad knows he’s got KO power in his hands and his legs so he should be ready to bang in his next fight. I’m hoping he’s much more aggresive against Forrest cause he can’t let him set up like Rampage did. He needs to put Forrest on his back…punish him…and stand back up and do it again. I’d like to see Rashad throw some knees in the clinch too.

I think it’ll be a 4th round TKO for Rashad…the next LHW champ!

by Buster Bluth on Sep 12, 2008 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Pretty Evedent to me he deserved a shot if he beat the champ.

by DBG on Sep 12, 2008 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I can understand what you are saying john, but Rampage can end a fight at any minute and Forrest took the wind out of his sails with leg kicks before he could KO him. It’s hard to have KO power without 2 good legs. If Forrest can do the same to Rashad it could work out in his faver. It’s a tough one to call though, because Evans is good at avoiding damage and he always finds a way to win. I have a new found respect for Rashads talent, but I just can’t stand the way he dances around the cage. Same goes for Jardine’s chimpanzee style.

john do you know why Rashad and GSP twist their nipples? I am curious as hell to find out why they do it.

by Gord on Sep 12, 2008 11:51 PM EDT up reply actions

GSP said it was good luck. Rashad and other members of the Jackson camp teased him about it and Rashad did it to milk it (no pun intended) a little more.

Gord: It was good luck to the ancient warriors before going into battle, so now greg jackson’s fighters do it before big fights

by john on Sep 13, 2008 9:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Gord: Yes Rampage could end the fight at any second and Forrest did beat him but how many times can that happen against these heavy hitters in the LHW division?

Forrest needs to out work his opponents for 25 minutes to win, all his opponents need to do is connect and its not like Forrest has a Nogueira type jaw that can absorb all kinds of crazy shots. Of Course Forrest can still win, but I dont like his odds. Truth is it will take 25 minutes for Forrest to get a win, but his opponents can end it in 2nd’s. I just dont like Forrest’s odds

by john on Sep 13, 2008 9:31 AM EDT up reply actions

John you are one of the most knowledgeable people I know, and I agree forrest has trouble finishing fights. But I have to disagree with the glass jaw comment. Jardine is the only person to finish him off. Page hit him with some bombs and couldn’t finish him. If Randy gives him a good gameplan he can stick to it, and if its not working he can change it up well. I also didn’t see a knock-off machida style in the page fight. I thought he done a good job of pressing the fight when there was opportunity. I bet on Page in that fight, and i thought forrest beat him in every facet other than powershots. as far as not being able to bust grapes as you say, rampages legs will disagree.

Dont forget the flying knee that followed the back kick. The knee is what ended the fight. THat was one of my favorite kO’s of all time. Poor Tuppaware McCarthy! LOL

I haven’t seen that fight forever and the back kick was so sick I guess that is all I remember. I didn’t even remember who he was fighting. LMAO at McCarthy… What a tool! Anybody know a link to that fight, besides You Tube???

by BNF on Sep 12, 2008 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I remember it well. He blasted Mccarthy with that spinning back kick, McCarthy flew back against the cage and the Crow did what I describe as a floating/gliding knee (different from the traditional flying knees) and McCarthy just Crumbled!

Its on a couple of different UFC best KO dvd’s, If I come across the video on the web, I will let you know

Oh, yeah, McCarthy is a bigtime tool!

by john on Sep 12, 2008 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Word up… It is all coming back to be now. The gliding knee was equally sick. McCarthy was probably pissing blood for a week from that kick!

McCarthy looked like he was going to puke up 60% of his internal organs when he got hit. I’ll never forget the look on his face after that stunning kick.

rashad is not being given the proper respect he deserves. some of it might be racial, some of it bitterness over chuck( alot of fans) losing. his after fight thing WAS INDEED nothing to get all riled up about. some people dont like his “showboating” ways, but like he says that’s just his style, and as long as he performs the way he did against chuck, more and more people will be able to look past that.

seriously well put. why does someone always have to bring up race?? i saw another post that said chuck has been tko’d by a black guy 3 times now. who gives a shit if he is black?? what the hell does that have to do with anything? you can’t stop seeing race issues because thats all YOU think about. GET OVER YOURSELF!!

by sooper822 on Sep 12, 2008 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Gob I guess we are racist against everyone in that aspect, IF boring fight styles is a race. We call out Machida and any other fighter who is boring to watch. It gets results, But people don’t pay to watch boring fights. I think the KO Evans had was one of the best all time, but had chuck not been after him it would have been boring. Evans style produces wins, but it is boring to watch most of the time. It has nothing to do with race to me. I work hard for my money and I want a good show in return, when I pay to see a fight, I WANNA SEE’EM BANGIN. I dont think liddell is really that good, but win or lose his fights are entertaining to watch thats why he has so many fans. If people with boring styles want to stick and move he turns it into a bombfest, AKA, one of us is getting knocked out. Thats what i pay to see.

I think it’s hilarious that Chuck fans are talking crap about Rashad’s gameplan. He looked like a smaller, faster, and slightly darker version of Chuck. He juked, jived, back pedaled, and landed a big one punch knock out. That’s all Chuck has been doing for years. The only difference is that Rashad is capable of much more. You all (Iceman fans) are just pissed the Liddell got an overflowing tablespoon full of his own medicine.

by Brandon on Sep 12, 2008 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I am an Iceman fan, and I am more pissed with Chuck’s gameplan. His fight with Wandy was maybe the most entertaining fight I have ever seen, and he used almost every tool in his shed.

The Chuck that fought Rashad was not the same one that fought Wandy, but instead the Chuck who fought Jardine, just looking for a single punch and discarding almost all other techniques.

Also, anyone care to notice all the shots Rashad was landing in the 2nd round prior to the KO?

Now, can we all stop the hate and congratulate?
