Affliction broadcast team gets facelift with HDNet TV deal

Affliction MMA will shake up the broadcast team for its second-ever pay-per-view (PPV) event "Day of Reckoning," which was today relocated to Anaheim, Calif., and postponed until sometime in January 2009.
The two nuggets appear to be unrelated -- the fresh blood in the ringside booth is thanks to a new television partnership with HDNet.
Accordingly, "Big" John McCarthy, Jay Glazer and Frank Trigg will be replaced by the more established and accomplished broadcast crew comprising Bas Rutten, Kenny Rice and Ron Kruck.
Rutten and Rice can also be heard handling the live commentary for the Japanese mixed martial arts organization DREAM, along with co-hosting the hour long "Inside MMA" weekly program which airs on Friday nights on HDNet.
It's no coincidence.
As far as this writer is concerned, "El Guapo" is on the short list of great color commentators in this sport, ranking right up there with Joe Rogan. This is a solid decision for the t-shirt company/MMA promotion.
Affliction selling more pay-per-views as a result of this change is pretty doubtful, but it will surely help them improve the quality of the event's production.

I don’t care if they bring in Rogan and goldie, the card still sucks. AA/Barnett is the only fight I’m remotely interested in. Lauzon/horedeski…cmon guys lauzon gets ko’d. I can’t even name another fight. Bring in Royce, bas and who ever to commentate, won’t help the card!

i don’t know kevin for me aa vs barnett is so good that what ever else they put in there is just extra, and they have some other good fights, plus remember you never know big names or not how good the card will be till it happens.

I agree, some great fights come from non big names, but the names sell the fight, and the one fight isn’t doing it for me. I just see affliction as having a bunch of one sided fights, was there a surprise in the first event?

I for one am glad that Jim Carey is back and kicked hammill so hard he actually heard Jim’s jokes. This is a joke, my wife thinks Rich looks like Carey. Not even close to angle/trigg, sometimes I can’t even tell the difference!

Looks like the boys at Fightlinker and MMA Rated have stated that the T-shirt guy has a special announcement in 2 weeks that will change the MMA world. A probable retardo scenario being Tito facing Fedor. Great if it comes to pass, then we get another 30 second squash and watch Tito Turtling up for 1 million dollars. (Dr Evil Accent)

dandeman. other than a t.v. deal, i dont know what they could announce as changing the mma world. rumor has it that cbs wants to dump elite xc. could Affliction sign a crappy t.v. deal as well? the ppv thing isnt quite working for them. i think they are just trying to get attention and smooth over the oct event being postponed, but we’ll see.

Who cares about whats going on with Affliction, we all know its not going to happen until after the New Year… which has anyone else thought about that. It’ll be the month after the UFC goes all out with their Year End card. Then near that time if not the same month BJ GSP will be taking place. Terrible idea and Dana knows he’s right and Affliction is going to fold (probably before the winners of Nog Mir and Couture Lesnar face off) Anyway what I’d really like to know is what happened with Aleks. I was trying to keep up on him and now its like he doesn’t even exist. Someone hook me up with an update as to if he will ever fight in the US or if I should hate the CSAC for the rest of my life.

I have to disagree with the change being a solid decision, I thought Trigg glazier ang Big john did an awsome job at the inaugural event. But I guess it doesnt really matter so many things can happen until January the vent is not even garenteed to take place.
I would love to hear big john as the third man in a UFC broad cast or better yet now that randy is back When will he be back commentating and making picks again. Some one needs to ask randy or dana about that

hold up…bas rutten up there with joe rogan in announcing? sorry to say it but bas rutten was a great fighter, a legend in the sport, a great ambassador for mma, a funny guy who seems to be really down to earth but as for announcing, bas rutten is terrible. watch dream 3 and you’ll know why. it was very painful to hear he and kenny rice stumble through that show. even inside mma is train wreck. the only guy who is really prepared and ready to go is kruck. again, bas rutten is a great guy, great fighter, etc but terrible announcer.
