Thiago Silva v Lyoto Machida is rumoured for this card

by braveheart on Oct 28, 2008 9:57 AM EDT up reply actions

Unfortunately no, they are fighting at UFC 94 on January 31st…

by Joe Piervincenti on Nov 6, 2008 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

that is a stupid match up if you ask me… both undefeated… i think it would make more sense to put them up for a title shot, and if one of them gets it then put them up against one another….at that moment both have something to lose or gain you know…. if machida gets the belt, not only he would want to defend his title, he would also want to defend his perfect record, and thiago wants the belt and his recored to be perfect… not only that would make more sense it would also draw more PPV buys…

by rftsabah on Jan 20, 2009 3:47 AM EST up reply actions

But I do personally agree that, even though Franklin is one of my favorite fighters, that Franklin vs. Henderson and Coleman vs. Shogun are not huge PPV draws… But UFC usually knows this and that’s why the lower caliber main events are usually the international events, like UFC 85 and UFC 89…

by Joe Piervincenti on Nov 6, 2008 5:53 PM EST up reply actions

they will get at lease 600,000 buys plus gate. and if they do it for free GOD BLESS THEM!!!

you’re either retarded or know nothing about MMA if you Yawn at this Card. At first Coleman Vs Shogun Seems lame but these two hate each other, someones gonna Bleed! I’m willing to put money on Hendo & Ace being one of the best fights all year. Plus you get a look at Denis Kang who claims he’s better than the Spider… we’ll see.

who is Ivan Serati?

by sinister on Oct 9, 2008 9:05 AM EDT reply actions

He’s a Brittish MMA fighter, who has great boxing skills. He has actually done some proffesional boxing. He resently lost to Vitor Belfort first round TKO.

So if franklin wins does he get a 205 title shot? If not how many wins will he need after beating a top ten contender like henderson?

by sdow on Oct 9, 2008 11:01 PM EDT reply actions

Looking past Hendo already huh? Better hope Ace isn’t doing that. He’s gonna need a miracle to get by Dan

by Big Jake on Oct 15, 2008 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Personally think the winner of Thiago Silva & Lyoto Machida at UFC 94 should be the one to face the winner of Griffin vs. Evans…

by Joe Piervincenti on Nov 6, 2008 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

You can only see how many potential matchups there are with Chuck out of the picture with his loss (who the UFC wanted to win vs Rashad), Liddel frankly is undeserving with one win vs Wanderlei, who should have stuck to a better game plan and could have pulled out a victory. You still have Rampage vs. Wandy, which I believe Wandy is worthy of a title shot if he can beat Rampage again. But I agree Lyoto has paid his dues and him or Thiago are also candidates for 205, and lets not forget the spider is in the mix if joe silva can’t find a worthy opponent that will get the spiders gears going, they are resorting to Chuck. Hendo wants another crack at the spider but what if Rich wins, then what? Rumor is winner is the other coach for the new TUF season that will have Bisping as the other coach. What’s the UFC to do, I think they need to start a PRIX TOURNEY like the PRIDE DAYS.

by brendan on Oct 15, 2008 10:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Hendo has only had one win inside the octagon in the last ten years;and that was against a guy with NO stand up. Ace takes this by TKO in the third.

by Matt on Nov 4, 2008 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

no way is dan getting KO’d he went 5 rounds with rampage in an absolute slug fest, and you think decision rich is going to TKO him? keep dreaming

by brendan on Nov 24, 2008 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

Now that Cabana Boy doesn’t have to train for his own fighting career, he can spend more time training Ace on the art having submission skills and not using them.

Henderson tko rd 2

by belfort_fan on Oct 29, 2008 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions

No way dude. Hendo doesn’t have the technical striking like Rich does. All hes got is brawling, no kickboxing, no muay Thai, no technique. Rich has got tko wins by punches, knees, head kicks, body kicks, ground and pound, all of it. Rich is the total package. Like someone else posted below, hes only lost to 2 people EVER, and those guys are arguably the 2 best in their divisions. Rich will pick apart Hendo, and eventually get a 3rd round stoppage, or a unanimous decision.

Rich has been dropped in the past by Evan Tanner and David Louiseau (sp.?), but recovered and dominated those fights. After they dropped Rich, they kept going for that one punch, and I think that will happen again in this fight. Hendo may rock/drop Rich in the first round, but Rich will survive, and Hendo will continue to swing with the wild right hand, and Rich will be able to counter it the rest of the fight.

I also think Hendo will use the clinch alot in this fight, as a stall. I can see him swinging wildly and not landing and jumping to a clinch with only using little shoulder puches and little body punches. I don’t think he will be able to take Rich down, and if he does, he won’t be able to do anything with it.

As a post below said, Rich has very underrated submission skills. In the fight with Ken Shamrock, he had almost locked on a freaking omaplata! Granted Ken was just started his grand exit from the relevance of MMA, but still, to lock an omaplata on Ken in an MMA fight is a big testament to one’s ground game.

In conclusion, I think this may either be a very exciting fight, or a bit of a letdown, due to Franklin’s counter punching to an extent, and Hendo’s clinching to a much larger extent. In the end though, I predict a 29-28 Unanimous decision win for Ace, in which he will confuse his career by beating up and TKO-ing Bisping, only to then either get whooped by the Spider, or move back up to LHW where I think he could become a title contender.

I don’t know what will happen to Dan though. His only win in the UFC would have been to a new guy, and 3 losses to top contenders. He would stay around, but beating up guys just breaking the top 10. A high level gatekeeper, I hate to say.

On the other fights, I think Shogun will overwhelm Coleman in the 2nd round with strikes, standing at first, probably with knees, and finishing on the ground. I don’t think Coleman will have anything to offer in this fight.

I think the Kang/Belcher fight will be Fight of the Night, and it will be a stand up WAR. I expect Kang to get the better of most the exchanges, but Belcher will hang in there and maybe clip Kang a few times. By the 3rd round, I think Kang will come at him and finish him with knees. However, I think Belcher has a decent chance of pulling off the upset.

I expect Davis to outpoint Lytle with counter punching and takedowns.

Mendes/Schafer is an interesting fight to me. After the good start Mendes showed against my boy Thiago Silva, I’m interested to see if he can keep that pressure up and fight smart (i.e. NOT take the fight to the ground). but Schafer impressed me by taking Houstan A.’s shots and keep coming. I got Mendes by TKO in the 1 or 2 rounds.

I’m also interested in Tomasz Drwal’s fight. That should be a good slugfest. Capable of winning Fight of the Night. I’m picking Tomasz.

Kampmann should get a TKO win here. Or an early Submission.

Palhares to drop the guillotine on Horn.

Whew. Thats alot. lol. Enjoy.

Franklin has got punches that come from crazy angles, he definetly has a chance against dangerous D but he has to make sure he comes in 100% ready to fight. as for shogun and coleman i think its gonna be a boring fight.

I can’t wait to see the fight between Hendo and Franklin. It should be a brawl.

As for Shogun, I think he will be exciting to watch this time, if he’s in shape. I hope the old (in shape) Shogun shows up for his fight because he is an amazing athelete when he is in shape.

coleman v shogun, what a waste of time. shogun was supposed to be the best LHW in the world and since his loss to griffin he has been plagued by injury. his return fight, they give him coleman… lol

He had to have surgery on his knee! Shogun v Coleman rematch should happened a while ago but im still delighted to see it

by braveheart on Oct 31, 2008 2:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I see Ace taking the win in this one. Even though he is my favorite fighter his chin isnt exactly the strongest I’ve seen (but a lot of fighters are like that). He has a good stand up game; unless you match him to A. Silva but other than him he’s not too shabby. His groundgame is always overlooked because many fighters want to sit there and bang with him and having a 25-3 record not many people come out on top.
Let’s not forget the armbar escape on Black Belt Lutter. He has many submission victories.
But make no mistake Hendo is very dangerous with his looping right. His wrestling is second to none. So I see this being a really exciting fight. I just don’t see how people keep dogging Franklin over and over again. When he has only lost to 2 people in his career. One being the best P4P fighter (A. Silva) and the other being an undefeated Top 10 LHW Lyoto Machida.
Wake up!

by mmadaddy on Oct 30, 2008 7:42 AM EDT reply actions

Agreed. Ace has never had a hard time in a fight with anyone, besides Silva and Machida – and everyone has trouble with them. Whereas, Hendo almost got knocked out by Silva, but Silva “chose” to submit him instead. Hendo hasn’t looked too impressive in any of his UFC fights. He really doesn’t have anything that could give Ace a hard time. Matt Hamill is probably as good, if not a better wrestler than Hendo and he couldn’t do much to Ace. Even if Hendo gets Ace down, he’ll get subbed. Ace’s ground skills are definitely under-rated. From what I’ve seen of them, I’d go as far as to say that if it was a pure ground-fight vs. Silva, I’d pick Ace. Also, even Ace’s decisions are always unanimous and usually a VERY one-sided, eg vs. Loiseau, Hamill. If you think about it, in the UFC, besides Silva and Machida, Ace is the most consistant and reliable fighter. WAR ACE!

Colemans fighting at 205? I think Franklin has better conditioning and will outpoint Henderson. However, I hope Dan wins.

as much as i like shogun im not going to be surprised to see the old baster upset him after all shoguns injuries i just dont see him being like the pride days and i think dan will take franklin at dans last fight at 205 he had jackson beat the fuck up for two rounds and im pretty sure jackson is a better light heavy than franklin so hendo by either ko or decision.

Your absolutely right,I mean,I cant understand how this event completely sold out in a matter of days, with months to go.Obviously no one is interested, you fuckin muppet.Tickets for Brocks fight were still available with two days to go,so we dont care, and neither does UFC care, that you wont pay for that fight card, because there are more than enough real fight fans willing, and are still willing,to pay for this fightcard,if they could get hold of a ticket for this event.

by bons on Nov 17, 2008 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

In regards to Joe Piervincenti’s comments about Thiago Silva and Lyoto Machida deserving title shots. Do you honestly think the ufc is gunna give either of those guys a title shot before they give it to the winner of Wandy or Rampage? Lyoto Machida might be one of the best fighters in the world but my god is the guy boring, the ufc would never want him for a champ because nobody would want to pay to see him fight, He only wins fights by decision ( 8 decisions in 13 fights ) and as far as Thiago Silva goes, he may be undefeated but until he fights a top level fighter he doesnt deserve anything, his best wins are against james irvin and houston alexander and they are sub par at best. Point being its gotta be Wandy or Rampage next inline for a lightheavyweight title fight

by Jordy Strueby on Nov 19, 2008 6:37 PM EST reply actions

alot of guys in MMA/UFC are sad to say “washed up” Franklin has the ability to still be a good top contender but it’s unlikely to happen in his next fight cause he is fighting Henderson who is a really tough, mean and underrated fighter…ever since the UFC 58 Rich Franklin hasn’t been the same, he likes to be the aggressor and when he can he does he wins, but Hendo aint no Jason Mcdonald or a inexperienced Matt Hamill…Henderson comes into the UFC and pretty much beats Jackson but lost the Decision then he fights Anderson Silva and doesn’t get destroyed like Franklin did TWICE, his last fight he didn’t finish the fight and thats because to finish a guy you have to follow him to the ground and with a guy thats as good and explosive in BJJ as he was you just dont do that smart on Hendos part he got the W and thats all he needed…Hendo’s gonna win dont know when or how but but he’s gonna win

by bryant on Nov 26, 2008 10:10 AM EST reply actions

This is a weak card as usual they alway bring these guys that nobody ever heard of to fill the card so they keep the big boys and the semi decent mid card fighters for there shows in the states, the only very good card from top to bottom was 75, and for the money we pay to see these guys they should but on better fights 72 was terrible and this one is looking the same BAR three fights so far, hope this doesnt end up like 85 and everyone starts getting injuried. Anyone else agree with anything i said??

by Irish on Nov 28, 2008 4:46 AM EST reply actions

The order needs corrected

Davis v Lytle and Horn v Palhares ARE on the main card; you hardly thought they wouldn’t be as opposed to Denis Siver fighting mmamania? I know ufc.com made the mistake but it was pretty obvious it was a mistake.

Lastly, Kampmann is rumoured for this card – if he fights Paul Taylor that would really make the card imo-

Hendo v Franklin
Shogun v Coleman
Kang v Belcher
Davis v Lytle
Kampmann v Taylor (hopefully)
Horn v Palhares

That’s a seriously decent main card. Weak prelims though but if those happen to be the 6 fights its more than decent

by Colin on Dec 3, 2008 12:16 AM EST reply actions

Kampmann will fight a ufc newcomer i heard

Dan Henderson Vs Rich Franklin is going to be a WAR! this fight will be a slugfest and go down as one of the greatest fights of all time. For this fight alone I would by this PPV, as for Shogun Vs. Coleman I don’t know why this fight is even televised. Coleman is nearing his 80th birthday and Shogun should walk through him, if not he’s done.

i may be the only one really looking forward to this card as it stands today…

as for the person who said this is a card full of no names… uhh i dont think so, you must be a ufc watcher and not an mma fan… dan hendo and franklin is a great fight…

i have hendo taknig this one… REALLY excited about this fight… i like all the main card

by holyintellect on Dec 10, 2008 8:29 PM EST reply actions

I for one, am definetly looking forward to this fight card… alot. Henderson vs Franklin… that is going to be a fight not to be missed, a complete war in my opinion. Im pumped for that fight. Shogun vs Coleman? Again, that match up is sorely needed, for all us real mma fans out there, who know that Shogun is, or was, widely considered right at the top of the light heavy weight division. And his loss against Coleman in pride needs to be avenged, Shogun unfortunately broke his arm whilst falling to the canvas, so obviously the fight was stopped and the win handed over to coleman. For those who havnt seen shogun fight in pride (do not judge his fight against griffin… he was coming off a serious knee injury), imagine Wanderlei Silvas aggression, and his amazing heart, and his destructive muay thai. That was shogun rua at his prime, he fought some truly memorable wars in pride. And, if he can return to that form, over come his injuries, he will no doubt excel in the ufc. I easily see shogun (provided he is injury free) beating coleman. Who might i say is also a very well known name in the mma field. Coleman , a good few years back now, was a ground and pound animal, he was a very good fighter. And davis vs lytle… are you kidding me? How can anyone not be excited for that fight, that will be an awesome stand up war imo. Horn vs Palhares? Another great technical ground fight, might not be the most exciting fight for those newcomers to mma, or those who just prefer the stand up, but that is going to be a really enjoyable bjj fight, very good to watch the ammount of skill that these fighters possess! Kang vs belcher? Another fantastic fight there…

Who ever that irish guy was that is complaining about the fight card , you must obviously be quite new to mma, and are currently in the ufc mainstream. But, ill tell you now, your in for a treat, you are getting some truly great match ups for your money, i guarentee that.
