Paul 'Semtex' Daley: 'Im going to be real mean' in Jake Shields Elite XC fight

paul semtex daley
Props: FightTicker.com

Quoteworthy:

"I'm gonna be real mean in this fight, fuck Jake Shields, you’re going to see. I am stronger, I hit harder, I take punishment and he will not take me down, or hold me there for long if I make a mistake. This is gonna be a shock to those Jake Shields nut huggers. Once I am in that top ten, I'm coming after everyone above me."

Elite XC number one contender in the welterweight division, Paul "Semtex" Daley, has some choice fighting words for division champion Jake Shields. "Semtex" is one of the best kept secrets in mixed martial arts and will have the biggest opportunity of his career when he faces Shields at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., on October 4 for the Elite XC welterweight title. The bout will air on national television as part of the "Saturday Night Fights" series on CBS. Despite his relative anonymity, comments like this have become the norm from the charismatic Brit. He certainly ain't shy.

by Crazy on Sep 9, 2008 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Daley is the real deal. His stand up is truely world class, but he has always struggled with guys who take him down.

I heard he’s been traing non stop on keeping it on his feet for the last 3 months!

Its a simply equation:
Semtex keeps it standing = Jake gets knocked out. OR
Jake takes him down = Semtex taps.

Brave words from Semtex. I taking him as an upset over Shields but Shields will be having a bad day if he looses.

by UKmmaBOY on Sep 9, 2008 9:20 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

ive said this many times jake hasnt fought someone with wrestling skills yet! and all his big name wins are against small guys who should be at 155 only.
he is taking a massive step up in competition with jake and frankly without a camp that has great wrestlers and submission guys semtex is screwed

I think your first “jake” is supposed to be “paul”

This card looks like it will be pretty good.

Also taking part on this card will be a crowning of EliteXC’s first light Heavyweight Champion. so far, Rafael Fejao the standout from team Nog/Machida/Silva is scheduled to fight for the title but they dont know who his opponent will be. Either way he is a fighter that i like a lot and is on the rise. October 5th, that camp will Boast yet another title

by john on Sep 9, 2008 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rafael Cavalcante, aka Feijao is the next big thing to hit the LHW division! I’ve been saying it since the 2nd time I seen him fight (the Wayne Cole fight).

Also, the 1 loss on his record is a DQ lost by illegal upkick, so he has never been beaten! And seriously, can the guy possibly have better training partners???? Anderson Silva, Big Nog, Lyoto Machida…

by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Any guesses on who his opponent will be in the title fight?

by john on Sep 9, 2008 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jarad Hamand or Cyrille Diabate is what they were saying. Haven’t heard anything lately.

by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cyrille wouldnt be that bad of an opponent. No matter who it is, I think Fejao will beat anyone that EliteXC can get signed to the dotted line at 205

by john on Sep 9, 2008 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No doubt about it!

by ViolentMike on Sep 10, 2008 10:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m with u on that thought UKmmaBOY, Semtex has the ability to pull out an upset. However I see Shields winning.

by THORAZINE on Sep 10, 2008 3:09 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Daley has a good shot at winning the fight, but it’s shit tlk like that that gets you bit in the ass.

stinky, you missed the deadline. Cmon man, I let you make an exotic bet, now pay up. I need those 3 slices of cheese! Pay up or no more bets!!

are you going to watch or boycott? lol

by kama kaze on Sep 9, 2008 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Im not watching. Ill actually be in Florida and only a couple miles from the Bank Atlantic center that week. The promotion is still and always will be a joke. I was going to start watching once they announced Gary ‘Grimace’ Shaw was leaving, but once they announced Kimbo was fighting Shamrock I realized nothing has changed. Overall the promotion is an insult to MMA. Funny though. I was at a Dodger game the other day and I heard two drunk guys in front of me talking about ‘that Kimbo Slice guy’ and ’he’s one of the best fighters in the world’ and ‘the UFC is afraid to sign him’ and ‘Elite XC is gonna pass up the UFC.’ I was laughing out loud, literally.

by the_mexicutioner on Sep 9, 2008 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol..nice. those are the best conversations to earhustle. on 1 hand, its gonna be FREE on CBS, Jake’s on, Ninja’s on, Steve Quadros is on, and I don’t want to miss something like Noon’s Sr swinging at Nate or Street Fighter 4 commercials. But yet on the other hand, I’m so paranoid of fixed fights, not into girl fights, and just don’t want to waste my time. So I come to the conclusion, if I’m home at that time, I’ll leave the TV on at that channel while doing chores (vacuum, laundrey, etc) all drunk so that if it is a waste of time, at least I got something done. :)

by kama kaze on Sep 9, 2008 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh man, I can’t just listen in on those conversations, especially if I’ve had a beer or two. lol, but I get so frustrated with those. I was trying to tell one guy that Kimbo wasn’t even in the top 100 and he just couldn’t get it. His response was always, “well, have you seen his youtube videos?” I thought I was gonna scream!

by chefdaddy on Sep 9, 2008 11:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Calling Paul Daley one of MMA’s best kept secrets made me lol…he is nothing but a gatekeeper and Jake Shields will prove as much. The highest this guy will ever appear in The World’s Top 50 Welterweight lists is 15, if that!

by jay on Sep 9, 2008 9:27 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This is going to be a real good test for Jake Shields.. Semtex is the business.. if he goe into the cage that night with a tight as takedown defense.. Jake could be screwed.. As dangerous as Jake is on the Mat.. Semtex is on the feet.

by PhilQNY on Sep 9, 2008 9:32 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

LOL, why, because the best fighter you’ve ever beaten is LW Duane Ludwig???

I don’t think that Daley’s TD defense will be good enough to stuff every Shields attempt. Jake is going to take him down, beat him up a little bit, and then choke him out or take home his arm. Daley’s only chance at winning the fight is by a knockout and Shields knows this.

I want Daley to succeed in the US but I can’t root against Jake (Cesar Gracie!!!)

by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 9:43 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

NOTE: The “LOL” was directed at Daley’s quote, NOT Phil’s comment.

by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 9:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry Boys, SEMTEX aint playing! There will be an upset. As much as I like Jake, I think this kid is the future of the division.

As Semtex’s biggest american fan…..MOFO’in WAR SEMTEX!

Here Comes the BOOM!!!!

hes another loudmouth fighter, dislike him already!

by brendan on Sep 9, 2008 10:25 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL, just curious John, but how many fighters are you thier “biggest fan” of?

Fedor
Daley
Jacare
JZ Calvancante
Rampage
Nipple Evans
Cheick Kongo

Ok, maybe I added the last two on my own…. LOL

by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I said, i was his biggest American fan and you left out about 20 other fighters who I am their biggest fan of! You know how I love shogun, BJ, Leites, Silva, “kid” Gomi9, Sakuraba, Genki Sudo, Big Nog, Wanderlie and about 20 other fighters! lol

You are one to talk:
Leben
Diaz Nick and Nate
Jake
Condit
Miguel
Henderson
Mayhem

by john on Sep 9, 2008 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOLOL, I meant to put that I know I am leaving off about 25 names or so…

I was going to put Nog and Wanderlei on the list also.

On my list, YOU FORGOT FITCH!!!!!!!!!!

At least you can tell when I am kidding with you!!!

by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Also, added to both of our lists

DUSTIN McLOVIN HAZELETT!!!!!!!!

I am on his left nut, and John hangs from his right.

damn it, I did forget Fitch, I thought I had them all! lol

No worries VM, I know its just Love! No hate in your game!

I had PhilQNY as the biggest Anderson Silva fan!

by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he is infatuated with Nog also

Forgot off my list:
Sakara
Alves
alvarez

Fighters vM put me on to:
Leites
Gouveia
Mclovin (although I think it was Mr Nc-17 who started the mcLovin movement originally)
Who else did you put me on to?

by john on Sep 9, 2008 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

How could either of us forgotton your Italian mate that got broken by Leben, that fat Brazilian kid you always defend, and you your hometown hero!!!!

I don’t think that there are any others that I have gotten you aboard the bandwagon with me. I may have gotten a little too excited about Feijao right off the bat, not sure if you are a fan or not of his.

And also, I am currently the conductor of the Jake Rosholt bandwagon. ALL ABOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am a fan of Fejao’s!

Mania any update on who Machida will fight @89? cheers

RIP TANNER!

by braveheart on Sep 9, 2008 9:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Braveheart: Rumor I am hearing is that Machida will be taken off the UFC 89 card and moved to the December Ufc 92 card to face Shogun!

I also read that a match up is being talked about between Mike Swick vs. Rumble Johnson

and there is still chance of a UFC 91 co-main event between Rampage vs. Wanderlei

Source (dont know how good it is): http://urdirt.com/?p=1085

by john on Sep 9, 2008 9:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah i heard the wandy vs rampage fight before but wandy is saying no way he will fight before december, so why not put that superfight there or with bj and gsp?

but in this fight i got shields raping semtex hard shields is way to good on the ground and doesn’t get that much credit for how good his submissions are semtex will go down in a thomson style fashion

by randy murders on Sep 9, 2008 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

just this morning i heard machida will be staying on

the card and rich franklin might be stepping

up to fight lyoto at 91.

remember that u herd that from stinky!

by ~stinky~fingers~ on Sep 9, 2008 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Stinky, I would prefer to see a rematch between Machida vs. Franklin so I hope that you are right. I like both Shogun and Machida to much to see them fight causing one of them to loose.

Hopefully the Rich vs. Machida fight happens because its a great match up and I want Lyoto to stay on the freee UFC 89 card

by john on Sep 9, 2008 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Stinky: Did you hear the Kimbo vs. Mike Tyson rumors yet?

by john on Sep 9, 2008 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

REALLY? What, with a win over Shamrock? Who would have ever thought the level of mma competition can actually move backwards after beating Shamrock.

However, a Kimbo vs Tyson bareknuckle standing-only fight would get SOOOOOOO much attention. If that was on PPV, it would do ridiculously good because of the name recognition

by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dont know what to think of it VM or how true it is. Kevin said he read the same thing. Its being said that Tyson has already signed on and it will happen in 2009 but who knows how true all of this is, but you cant deny that it does SOUND like something EliteXC would do.

At some point Kimbo need to decide if he really wants to be a mixed martial artist or just some thug fighter because these types of match ups just dont do anything for mma except for the recognition (not so sure if its good rec or not). I will admit that a gazillion idiotic blood thirsty casula fans will eat this fight up and it could help EliteXC break into PPV!

the only fight i ever seen of his was the sam morgan. he finished wit nice little clinch to elbow droppage. ben stiller demo that move on InsideMMA. id root for him if he wasn’t fighting jake. interesting matchup of styles. jake is too smart, experienced, and a master of executing his gameplan. props if Daley makes it out the 1st.

by kama kaze on Sep 9, 2008 2:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

YEah I do not see Daley making it out of the first either. If Jake messes up, maybe DAley catches him with a clean shot, other then that, it will go to the ground, he will be mounted or his back will be taken, and DAley will be taking a 30 second nap.

“I am stronger, I hit harder, I take punishment…” -Semtex

Glad to hear you can take an ass beating Semtex… because your muscles won’t matter when Jake is choking you & your punches won’t count for shit when you’re on your back.
