BREAKING NEWS: Body found in remote desert campsite is that of former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champ Evan Tanner. Tanner, 37, disappeared last week while camping in a rugged area of Imperial County near the California-Arizona border.

breaking news huh…scroll down the main page buddy. thanks for trying

I think he has a “Flying Scissor Heel Hooker’s” chance. That is Silva’s only weekness.
by DDT on Sep 9, 2008 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Just like Rashad had no chance against Liddell.
by Gord on Sep 9, 2008 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions
What a garbage main event for my hometown.
Cote has a chance if Silva becomes arrogant and looks past him.
At least I can look forward to Alves/Diego…

I hope Diego gets knocked out. Dude is a fruitcake.

Happens to me a lot with mmarated.com videos, even on their site…I cant get them to play(it just says loading continually)
ALSO….
How does that little Ariel dude get so many interviews and breaking news??? And they are not phone interviews, they are live interviews. Most of the biggest names in mma have had an interview with that guy. And that site hasnt even been around that long either!!!
They must have some serious loot to throw around AND/OR some serious contacts. Most likely both.
by fightfan on Sep 9, 2008 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions
I am still waiting to see the Cote interview where he says something to the effective of:
“WHYYYYYYY?? Why did they have to give me Anderson Silva? I do not want to fight him because he scares me. I have zero chance at winnning and since I never thought it was ‘cool’ to practice BJJ I have no choice but to stand up and get KO’d by the spider. Vegas has me as an 8-1 underdog, but I should be a 1000 to 1 underdog. Feel free to re-mortgage your house for this one because I can not beat Anderson. Too bad if you bet $250,000 you will only win about 50 bucks if you wait until fight time to place your bet.”
by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 12:18 PM EDT reply actions
It will be more than worth watching. Should Silva just not fight anyone, because he is GOD? Mark my words, Cote will make it a fight. Cote has never had any problem with strikers and he has KOed most of them. Sure Silva is one of the best strikers, but Cote can take MUCH more than the average fighter and he hits very hard. Cote WILL survive better on the feet than Silva’s previous opponents, for many reasons. He can take a punch better (tell me when he was ever rocked), He is a master at not taking to much damage( show me when his face was ever banged up) and he has acurate punches that hit like a mac truck (almost half his wins are via T(KO)). I don’t see either one of them taking it to the ground and I know Silva is great on the ground, but so is Almeida and Cote was never in any real trouble with him. You guys make it sound like Silva is going to go in there, Wam, Bam ,thank you mam and Cote is going to be laying on the mat. Not going to happen like that.
by Gord on Sep 9, 2008 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions
LMAO, SAD BUT SO TRUE!!!!
Silva is going to destroy Patrik Cote! UFC better start building its middleweights up like Maia, Kaites, and Goran because a guy who is 4-4 isnt all that deserving of a title shot but right now the division is not that deep so it isnt as bad.
I like Cote, but I am not delusional. No one has even lasted 10 minutes with Silva and there is nothing to make me believe that Cote will be the 1st.
Ariel has a weird shaped alien head, and a gay name, but I enjoy his interviews.
by john on Sep 9, 2008 12:56 PM EDT up reply actions
i would like for anbody who is dissing cote and this match-up to tell me why? who else at mw should it be.? hendo, franklin, marquardt, leben? these guys have already had the snot beat out of them by the spider and now its cote’s turn. okami got injured and they asked cote to step up and he did. i give him props for that and say he at least has a punchers chance. take a.silva out of the mw division and that weight class is loaded with alot of equal talent. too much negativity directed towards cote imo.
by b.w. on Sep 9, 2008 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions
I totally agree b.w. I give him a good chance at winning, the guy hits very hard, and very accurate. I also see too much negativity, give the guy a break. He’s fighting the best in the world for our enjoyment, taking a huge risk, and being professional to boot. I think a Cote win would nicely rough up the MW division, and would make for some great match-ups. A lot of these guys posting here come and bitch on here just for the sake of hearing themselves think, I swear! It’s getting to be a real drag.
Also, I seem to remember 90% of these guys here last week, being 100% WRONG.
by GodDamnMike on Sep 9, 2008 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions
If Cote wins, I will own it and give him props.
Happy? :)
by OJR on Sep 9, 2008 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions
Its not that Cote is bad, its just that Anderson is so damn good. Cote is a banger who has shown great heart and perseverance. The kid moved up a weight class to take on Tito on like a couple of days notice. He is a bad dude. its just that when you think Anderson Silva, you dont exactly think Cote has a worthy opponent to challenge the Spider. Then again, who is?
Props to Cote for taking on such a MONSTER, God bless you son!
Not that I dont like Patrick, its just that I dont see Anderson loosing anytime soon, no matter who he gets matched up against
by john on Sep 9, 2008 3:13 PM EDT up reply actions
If you think that Cote taking this fight is him “taking a risk” and doing it to please the fans than you are delusional. He is fighting for the MW championship of the UFC. This is what he dreamed about his whole life. A dream come true.
If the only explanation that anyone can come up with on why Cote will win is because “he punches hard”, then what sets him apart from previous opponents of the spider?
Patrick Cote hits no harder than:
Chris Leben
Lee Murray
Rich Franklin
Dan Henderson
James Irvin
AND all of them have a more well rounded game than Cote and they all lost.
If the odds to this fight for Cote become +800 or better, I will flush a few bucks down the toilet on him even though I have said that I will never bet against Anderson after the Henderson fight.
Is Silva vs Cote a worthy Main Event of a PPV????

I am sure it is a rhetorical question but :
NO !!!
by OJR on Sep 9, 2008 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions
JOHN. thanks, i liked your response. good info on the tito fight. he’s not good enough to beat a.silva, but like you said who is? cote is NOT a can and i too give him props wether he wins or loses. ithink he will be a force in the mw division for years to come. silva wants to fight 5-6 times a year, so there wont always be a superfight for him.

cote thinks hes 6-2. the leben and doerkson fights.. not that it makes much a difference. there will still be one more loss in that column. maybe.

hahaha he thinks he will win! miss match! Bisping is the only guy who can beat Silva.
by Tony on Sep 9, 2008 12:18 PM EDT reply actions
Bisping? I personally don’t think he would last a round w/ Silva. Bisping has looked good at MW, but Silva is just in another league.
by LJ on Sep 9, 2008 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions
uh no – Marquart has the best chance – his last 2 performances were impressive (even with the “loss”)…i’d say his chances are significantly better than hendo’s
Their 2nd fight would be alot different in terms of competitiveness
Marquart would smash Bisping into next year
by jerrolds on Sep 9, 2008 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions
come on ppl, no one really stands a chance to beat the spider, no one! if anyone gets the chance to beat the spider in the near future it will be ala serra vs gsp…
by linx on Sep 9, 2008 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Linx, that is true if we are only talking about 185. If he moves to 205 I think there are few guys there that can beat him. It is a short list, but I think you know who they are.
by BNF on Sep 9, 2008 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions
definetely, I’m talking about the 185 division exclusively.

How does everyone feel about a Hendo/Marquardt matchup? If they don’t give Rich to Hendo, they gotta have Dan fight someone in the MW division with a name. Now THAT would be solid fight.
by ViolentMike on Sep 9, 2008 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions
I like it, and from my understanding, Rich is staying at 205. So a fight with Hendo is not likely anytime soon since Hendo wants the rematch with the spider…
by linx on Sep 9, 2008 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions
I been asking for Hendo/Marquardt fight since Saturday night. I think it would make for an excellent fight

What’s Tony’s deal with Bisbing Is it Love or lust?
by DBG on Sep 10, 2008 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions
Bisping can’t get passed Hendo, no doubt, therefore, definately can’t get passed Silva. Hendo was his greatest opponent since he’s defended his title, hands down. Regardless of the respect he shows for Franklin, admirable, although not true.
by Kimura by Fedor on Sep 9, 2008 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions
HAHAHAHA, what can Bisping do to Silva? At least Cote has a chance to CRACK him a good one and get him rocked and he has a chin of granite. The best tool to have if you are fighting Silva is to be able to take a shot (or 50, lol) and Cote has shown he can take one right on the button and still move forward.
by Gord on Sep 10, 2008 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions
HA! He said he’s going to pull a Matt Serra! lol, thats great.
i kinda hope Patrick does beat Silva, that way the UFC gets screwed with the MW division just like they are with the Chuck and LHW division.
by sinister on Sep 9, 2008 12:24 PM EDT reply actions
LHW isn’t screwed they have many top contenders, whereas MW has been cleaned up with a broom, mop, pinsol, windex, the works.
by MikeD on Sep 9, 2008 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions
screwed as in the Chuck situation and LHW division, and where/how he fits in it. if Cote wins, we have a HUGELY unlikely champ over some world class fighters, hence screwed.
and since im on the subject, aside from Evans, nadda lot of the top contenders are in a position to challenge for the title.
People say Machida, and while being undefeated has its perks, he only beat a green Soko and Ortiz, not really constituting a title shot. He should be next after Evans, but hasn’t beaten any real top contenders. The same can be said for Thiago Silva as well.
Meanwhile, all/most of the BIG names are in no position to challenge for the belt. Wany, Page, Shogun, Chuck, Jardine, Soko, none of them have more than a one fight win streak. Fighters should have at the VERY LEAST 2 wins in a row to fight for title, and those 2 wins should be against other top guys.
by sinister on Sep 9, 2008 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Ahh I see, yea it’s gonna be a stretch for Cote to pull this off.
On the LHW, the big names will face and eliminate each other soon. I would love to see a Shogun vs Griffin rematch.
by MikeD on Sep 9, 2008 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t think the MW division will be in any bad situations if Cote wins against Silva. Either they give Silva an immediate rematch and he beats Cote that time or the put Cote up against Okami and then when Okami takes the belt back it’d be Silva Okami like it was supposed to be. Really there is nothing bad that can come from this fight for either fighter other than Silva has a loss on his record and seems vulnerable. In the end Cote means nothing in that weight class, there are too many people who are better than he is who have been sidelined for the moment.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Sep 9, 2008 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions
The problem with your scenario is, that if Cote wins the title (as unlikely as that sounds), and they give an immediate rematch to Silva… and he then also loses that fight, where would that leave Silva?
In Rich Franklin’s shoes…that’s where!
We’ve all witnessed fighters who seem invincable, until they meet their nemisis.
If the impossible happens and Cote wins this fight, there will be no immediate rematch.
UFC won’t let that happen again.
by talkman on Sep 9, 2008 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions
A fighter need only win one in a row in the UFC to get a title shot…
Anderson Silva…fought only Leben before getting a crack at Franklin.
Brock Lesnar is getting a title shot after a single victory…
There are many MW’s who fit THIS criteria…that is have won one fight
by talkman on Sep 9, 2008 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions
look at their overall record and not just hte ufc record. silva had 4 wins (not included the Okami DQ) before he got a shot at Rich. As far as the ufc goes, they give shots by marketing ability and not necessarily ranking/win streak. it took jon fitch 8 wins to get one, and, as you said, brock lesnar 1. hell, frank trigg’s first ufc fight was for the title against matt hughes wasnt it?
my point was being that fighters SHOULD have at least 2 wins in a row to fight for a belt, not that it happens that way.
by Sinister on Sep 10, 2008 7:27 AM EDT up reply actions
LMAO, he actually said that? I can’t get the damn video to load!

Ok i’m from Montreal…. But let’s wait and see. Not saying he’s going to win…. But stranger things have happened in this world before !
Let’s go mon Pat !
by Marco on Sep 9, 2008 12:42 PM EDT reply actions
The only way Cote can win is if he smothers Anderson like Hendo did, but Cote will have to figure out a way to cup his farts in his hand to make Anderson tap from the stench.
by BNF on Sep 9, 2008 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Lmao! That is a world class game plan if I’ve ever heard one. You could be the next Randy couture. you should open an extreme bnf gym.
by James S on Sep 9, 2008 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions
You don’t have to be from Montreal to be a fan of Cote, nor do his fans need to be French. The man always shows up to bang. That’s enough for this mma junkie.
He’s shown he’s not afraid to exchange with anyone and as I mentioned above, everyone has a nemisis. Perhaps he’s Silva’s.
Not many are giving Cote much of a chance… but I would like to point out that most of the previous challengers were supposed to be legitimate contenders because they possessed BJJ or wrestling skills that were supposed to be Silva’s downfall. They weren’t!
Perhaps the way to beat this great champion will be giving him a taste of his own medicine,
We’ll see.
I’ll be in Cote’s corner with you.

After watching Rashad knock out Chuck, Cote knocking out Silva is the only thing that could surprise me now.
by DirtyML on Sep 9, 2008 12:47 PM EDT reply actions
still wouldnt be as bad as Rashad KOing Liddell…I mean we already know Cote has power…but Rashad???? wtf?
by Chadx23 on Sep 9, 2008 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions
not that its saying a whole lot, but in his win over Jason Lambert, he GNP’d him to unconsciousness, and his head kick on the fish salmon.. the power was there, it just didnt come out when it needed to (like agianst ortiz and bisping)
by sinister on Sep 9, 2008 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Silva is atleast 10 times better striker than Chuck Liddell is.. Silva is not going to do amateurish mistakes like that.. when u look back at the Chuck fight it really wasn’t a surprise the way he was holding his hands

Stranger things have happened. If I was Pat I would be swinging for the fences after the first bell. Flying knees, the works. Last I looked they had Silva at -1100. Online places limit the bets to 500$ so what is the point?

by linx on Sep 9, 2008 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions
The only way we are going to get our money’s worth watching Anderson is if he’s lined up with three fights at each event. 1,2,3, down. Let him fight three clowns consecutively and then maybe we’ll get what we pay for. Otherwise i don’t see who can give him a challenge after Dan Henderson lost.
by WDC on Sep 9, 2008 1:41 PM EDT reply actions
jerrolds – I agree Marquart would be my choice and Hendo but Silva has already beat them! Thats only why i left them out and said maybe Bisping. People actually wanted to see Kampmann fight Bisping and where saying he would win? FLMAO! Bisping would destroy him.
by Tony on Sep 9, 2008 1:59 PM EDT reply actions
No he wouldnt.
Bisping is an overrated can fighter.
by RandomTask on Sep 9, 2008 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree with the comments about Marquardt. Ever since he was beaten and knocked out by silva, it has seemed to awaken a beast inside him that wasn’t there before the Silva fight. I or one would look forward to a rematch of Nate and Silva. Nate vs. Henderson for #1 contender. Okami sucks, I could care less if they just release him, he is boring.
by sf on Sep 9, 2008 2:55 PM EDT reply actions
I couldn’t agree more. I always thought Nate was good, but he lacked agression. That loss to Silva really woke him up. His fights are much more exciting now.
by Gord on Sep 10, 2008 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions
i dont know why but i am starting to think cote has a chance in this fight, maybe it is because all of the recent upsets but i see him possibly coming out of this with the belt.
I think if cote does win and leben wins cote’s first title defense will be against the crippler. Though the chances of that happening are slim to none

This is the dumbest reasoning ever. This is the slot machine syndrome. People see someone hit the jackpot, so they think they will too and proceed to waste a ton of money.
by Pat on Sep 9, 2008 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions
That’s not dumb reasoning. It’s fact. Upsets happen in MMA all of the time so for anyone to count out any fighter with 100% certainty shows complete ignorance of sport.

That not dumb reasoning. It is a fact. Upsets happen in MMA all of the time. For someone to claim that they are 100% certain that a fighter will lose shows ignorance of the sport. You can say that you THINK Silva will win, but to say things like “COTE IS GOING TO GET DESTROYED!!!” isn’t really logical. It seems logical that it may happen, but saying that it WILL happen is where it becomes illogical.
