randleman died? WTF, is this true?

by linx on Sep 9, 2008 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No. I think Randleman had a staph infection or something and almost died. I remember hearing that so I think that’s what he’s talking about.

by RyanHobbs on Sep 9, 2008 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

oh ok, I heard about the staph infection, I didn’t know it was so serious though.

Yeah it was very serious

by belfort_fan on Sep 9, 2008 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Linx: RAndleman’s staph was not like the staph.. you think.. a few bumps..and rash or what not.. he had 2 GIANTS HOLES..1 by his armpit/chest.. it was like a shot gun wound.. you literally saw inside his body.. just nasty.. I get chills just thinking about it.

He wouldn’t go see a doctor because he is such a “tough guy” which is why it got so bad.

I hope they do something for him at the next US UFC. Id’ like something like a minutes silence then for him to be inducted to the hall of fame.

Evan Tanner was a simplistic man, yet complicated. Perhaps this was a moment in time he manufactured to lead him down a different path in life or let God and Nature take him.

Evan Tanner lived and left life on his own terms rather than live it by society’s norms. I’m going to celebrate the life you lived rather than mourn the legacy you left.

R.I.P Evan Tanner… Thank You for the Great MMA memories you were a man that was admired by many, not always for the words you spoke but always for the spirit you carried inside.

No, he was riding through the desert when he ran out of gas in desert. He tried to walk back the civilization but didn’t realize how far away he was. Very sad.

It sucks to see him go…RIP

by TonyDrip on Sep 9, 2008 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s right. He has already expected the worst, which is dying out in the desert. Do you think he was tired of everythin’ and wanted to commit suicide by doin’ this. BEcause I don’t really think Tanner is suicidal…He seems like the calm type of person.

I hate that this happened, he will be missed. I have always been a fan. I think the UFC should do a special show on Evan, inside and outside the cage to honor him. He well deserves it.

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn’t supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it’s harder every time. You’ll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You’ll fight with your best friend. You’ll blame a new love for things an old one did. You’ll cry because time is passing too fast, and you’ll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you’ve never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you’ll never get back.

Don’t be afraid that your life will end, be afriad that it will never begin.

by PhilQNY on Sep 9, 2008 2:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

In Tanner’s own words…

"Evan was such a unique individual, and he was okay being an individual," said Hayner. "He was okay with taking the path less traveled, and he often chose that harder path."

It was simply who he was. Just read the words he spoke to me before I wished him luck for his fight against Grove in June.

"Everything’s been about the journey," he said. "I never really set out with goals for fighting; it’s been about the adventure along the way. When you’re on your death bed, it’s those stories, those little adventures that are going to be the things that you remember. It’s not so much getting there, but how you got there."

And he did it his way.

Never was a fan, but it is always sad to see someone die before their time.

by jay on Sep 9, 2008 2:56 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Well I guess it really was Evan’s time and he himself admitted it that he may not be comin’ back because there’s a possibility that he would really die out there in the desert. What a bad way to die[dehydration I believe]…:(

Evan,

You will be missed! I enjoyed watching you fight. Every time I seen that you were going to be on the event card I got so excited. While you had losses, you had some great victories. I live in Oregon and hoped that one day would see you come back. I have stayed updated on you blogs, and will miss reading them. As an outdoors-man myself I enjoyed the moments you cherished in your blog about your adventures.

To everyone here, I think Evan passed the way he wanted. I find it hard to think that he did this on purpose. I remember reading his blog about going to the Desert, and remembered him saying he was listening to Eddie Vedder. Now most of you know him for Pearl Jam, but he also contributed vocals to the movie “Into The Wild.” In the Movie the young man becomes somewhat of a Nomad and travels to Alaska, where he ultimately passes away. I just try to picture him sitting there listening to the Music, and thinking about his adventure. He noted he wanted to go to Alaska, and while he never made it I believe he is in a better place now.

Thanks,

Chris Valentine

Live all your life without waste. Always do the crazy things that you need to do, and let the inner person reflect on the outside. Don’t be afraid to tell those around you that you love them and are grateful for them. Forgive others that might need it. You never know when your last day might come. Take care Evan, catch you on the flipside.

I have been an Evan Tanner fan for as long as i can remember. I liked him for the obvious reasons, he was a gutsy fighter, who even when he lost he was relentless, and his victories were always memorable. But I also liked him because he didnt deny the problems or vices he had in his life, he took them on like the warrior he was a was able to be a better man for it. I think the main reason we all respect Evan so much though is because he lived his life the way we all want to live our lives. He was someone who literally lived everyday like it was his last, he never went half way. He was that guy who didnt have a lot, but never wanted alot. You could tell he had a mattress, a T.V., and some books, and that was all he wanted. He was a wise, simple person, who refused to sweat the small stuff. As i ramble here, i try to find some kind of way to fully describe what im trying to say, and best way i can think to say it is that we all have heroes, but i for those who have followed him over the years and followed his journal and blog, i say that what i respect about Evan the most and what made him a hero to me was his ability to inspire the uninspired. When you saw how Evan lived his life it made your “problems” look trivial, he made you wanna go out and make your own destiny, and do for others what he did for you. Obviously he didnt mean as much to many as he did to me, but i think we can all just lear a lesson from what he stood for, and what he was about. He went out doing what he loved, being a badass, and being a rockstar. I for one will miss him greatly, and look back on his life with fond memories. Rest in peace my friend.

I will miss you Evan. I have always been your fan, and always will be. You will br remembered as a pioneer who helped make the sport what is is today. An amazing veteran, who always showed to fight. Someone who truely did live life to the fullest, and did the best he could to live out his dreams. I am realy hurt by this tragedy. I have all the sympathy in the world for every person on here who is affected by this too.

I said this before, this is indeed sad. Even though he was a bit eccentric, I met this guy a few months ago in Vegas where he was doing some signatures for the Memorial Day UFC, and after all the other fighters and staff left. This guy stayed behind for an extra hour to take pictures and sign autographs with fans that didnt get a chance during the official sign in. Class act.

Sitting here listening to Sinatra sing about how he did it his way. So did Evan. Always a fan and even more so lately as I began to read his blogs. The man was a free spirit who lived life to the fullest. I truly hope his search for peace was successfull. I’m inspired by Evan and by philQny’s statement.

The UFC should hold an event in the desert and give the proceeds (profits) to some sort of foundation to help fighters like Evan better deal with life after the light has gone from them.

by Mark on Sep 9, 2008 4:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m just paraphrazing what a lot of you all are saying… “He was a gutsy guy, plain and simple.” Gutsy in the cage and gutsy in life. Although we all wish he was still with us, let’s just take what we can from it and learn what we can, which is to enjoy your life, everyday like Evan Tanner did. Maybe don’t take everything to the extreme and live on the razor’s edge (or maybe do if that makes you happy), but just do what makes you happy. Smile at a stranger and don’t ever change your ways because you think you will look “different.” Different is often just a word to describe great, great people. RIP Evan.

this might sound weird but i’ll always remember evan by the shorts he was wearing when he won the title. he was in trouble but on the back of the shorts it read “believe” and i know when he was closed to being finished he still believed and became a champion for it. he’s always inspired me because of that, simply believing. it does more than you think.

he’s been through some shit with the whole drinking thing but i think he ended on a good note coming back and fighting, who cares if he lost and never got to challenge silva like he wanted, he came back and competed with two of the worlds best after going over a year without training. the dudes a warrior and an amazing writer. r.i.p, evan tanner.
