UFC Quick Quote: Tito Ortiz brands Juanito Ibarra 'a thief'

"Let me explain this to you because it really pisses me off that Ibarra has done what he has done, he is a thief. I have been running training camps for seven years up in Big Bear California and the most that my camp has cost a fighter to attend is $35,000. Ibarra was charging Jackson $65,000 to go to Big Bear. I don't understand that!! He was being very disrespectful and taking advantage of ‘Rampage’. Including travel, training partners, food and lodging, the most ever was $35,000, maybe if you flew in more trainers...$40K. Where did that extra money go that Ibarra was charging? ‘Rampage’ is really pissed and he feels betrayed that he was taken advantage of and I couldn't agree more with him. I don't care if Juanito reads this or hears about it anywhere, he already knows that he is blackballed. I don't care who you are; fighters work very hard for the money they earn and I feel slighted for even knowing Juanito."
-- Tito Ortiz vents his frustrations via PunchDrunkGamer.com regarding his feelings about Juanito Ibarra -- the former trainer for Quinton "Rampage" Jackson -- in a recent interview. Ortiz and Jackson are close friends. Jackson and Ibarra severed their relationship after Jackson lost his 205-pound title to Forrest Griffin back in July. He then went on a long, strange, sleepless and energy-drink fueled trip that landed him in the slammer. Jackson has indicated that his uncharacteristic behavior was sparked in part when he learned that someone close to him was stealing from him. He has never publicly fingered Ibarra as that person.

He thought Juanito was his boy, and he trusted him. He was probably in denial.

If Tito is so tight with Page why didn’t tito know how much Page was paying until recently.
Page had big training camps up their with Kongo, Vera and Bisping all traing up there.
Lets face it another $25K is nothing to Page in the big picture, I think its all just getting blown up.
by MoonUK on Sep 8, 2008 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions
What is another 25K for Rampage…are you kidding me?!? Do you not understand that fighting is Rampage’s career? Sure he may make more money than most people who post on here. That however is not the point. This man appears to have stolen money from Rampage plain and simple. I think that is good that other fighters know what is going on. So that this doesn’t happen to anyone else. Hazlett added to UFC 91…sweet card.

moon UK . I have a little money, yet I bring lunch to work 99% of the time. why spend 10 bucks I don’t have to? People that have money have it for a reason, and people like rampage get taken advantage of for a reason…. My guess, Rampage knew of the money, juanito told him and he didn’t care because he figures he has the money. Realistically, his net worth is less than 2 million, and he has civil suits coming, not to mention lawyer fees. He doesn’t have much money, period!

Page was spending $25k a month on Red Bull, so no its not alot for him.

Your sh*ttin me?!?! That does it Kimbo, you’re truley a mma joke (if it’s true). Screw Elite XC for making this possible (if it’s true). What a disgrace to mma (if it’s true).

I had a really good source tell me about the Couture/Brock match up, I didnt predict it.
The source on the Tyson vs. Kimbo story is shaky, so dont hold me to it. But it does sound like something EliteXC would do, so I wont rule it out. Its supposed to go down in 2009 and I read that Tyson has already SIGNED on!
We will see, but dont hold me too it because I HAVE no idea if its credible!

kevin a old tyson could not even beat a bum 5 yrs ago,(did you see his last fight)so even though i am not a kimbo fan he’s got to be the favorite in that fight.

JOHN. did it say wether it was going to be an mma or a boxing match? Gary shaw had originally planned to switch kimbo from mma to boxing, once kimbo made his name in mma. very shaw like. ther are also rumors that affliction’s oct. show might be cancled due to maybee dana blocking it from happening in his “backyard”. the thred did show a banner for the ppv event in NY but stated that there were no advertisements in vegas for the event at all. those are just speculations and rumors though. i belive i got from fight opinion per yahoo sports.

I thought it was Juanito that Rampage was talking about when he was off his rocker.
However, if Juanito was charging Jackson a fat 65k to go to Big Bear and Jackson paid it… then where’s the rip off? Everything was gravy until Jackson lost, now it’s not worth it?
Yeah Boxing takes advantage of fighters, Juanito was disrespectful and yeah, it’s good that Jackson fired him, but don’t be so ignorant to pay those high prices… take care of yourself… negotiate, be little wiser with your money and how u do business. This way u can keep the Juanito’s of the world as your trainer/friend because they’ll never have the opportunity to rip you off. Small price to pay for Rampage, for a valuable lesson that could save him thousands more in the future.
Annnd’… I never understood why someone religious would automatically trust someone else that was religious… those r the worst people to blindly trust!

Tito has said dumb things, no doubt. But, he has done so much for the sport, as has Ken Shamrock (it’s been a while since I positively said anything about him). You have to repsect the guys for one thing, and one thing only: they’ve made a positive impact on the sport and is part of the reason mma is where it is today. NO ONE CAN/SHOULD DENY IT.
I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of Liddell haters if he keeps losing and just talking a lot of ish. It’s pathetic. But you can’t forget what the fighters have done for the (sport) we all love.

I know Rampage & Juanito. Tito was not at their Big Bear Training Camp, so how would he know the entire story? To my knowledge he has not spoke to Juanito. So this is just gossip. Juanito has always been straight with Tito, so whats the scam? Expenses! Tito does not pay his training partners or insure them, he doesn’t provide several homes to house all the coaches and sparring partners, he does provide a personal chef for meals or meal per diem for each team member, like Team Rampage. Rampage DID approve all the expenses prior. Juanito has always been an honest man and has always treated Rampage like a son. He protected him and defended him, even when he did not deserve it. Though I understand that Tito is just defending his friend Rampage. But Rampage has been telling lies about Juanito since his loss. He did not have a problem with Juanito till he lost and discovered how much he waisted money at training camp. Juanito has always couseled Rampage about expenses. But Rampage has always ignored his advice. He was aware of ALL monies spent. He needed to blame someone other than himself. But through all this I am surprised that Juanito still loves Rampage and continues to pray for him. What a classy man. All can say whatever you want but regardless of all the gossip, there will never be a more professional, stand up guy in the world of MMA, than Juanito ibarra. All fighters should have a Juanito in their corner. I am very disapointed with Rampage. He has shares stories about Juanito stealing from him but he ignors that he did not pay Juanito the agreed amount. Yes, Rampage ripped off Juanito. So who is the theif now? God will take care of him and all his lies.
Tito make sure you have all the facts before you start blowing but you are way off course.
THE TRUTH WILL COME OUT AND SETT EVERYONE FREE. LIES ARE ONLY TEMPORARY SO SOMEONE WILL FALL SOON.

I would have liked to see Hazlett fight a little better competition, but that’s okay.
I thought Kampmann should and would go to 170. He only cuts like 5 pounds to get to 185. That would be a great addition to a staked division.

That is one of the reasons I really like Tito. He always tells it like it is.
Juanito is the worst of the worst. Taking advantage of someone who you are supposedly helping in and out of the ring is dispicable. I never liked the guy and now he has been exposed. Go back to boxing with the rest of the creeps!

Tito is not the bad person everyone put him out to be, he is a fighter that thinks he is underpaid, and believe me its not just him thinking that way either. Tito and page have been friends for a long time even be 4 page came to the ufc,if i was tito i would clean out the camp bring in a new training crew and get big bear back to the hard core camp that it once was otherwise known as TEAM PUNISHMENT!!!

What a douche bag. I doubt Tito’s making it up. Juanito has been incognito and Rampage didn’t lose it for no reason. He obviously trusted this and made the mistake not watching over his finances close enough. Ibarra told him how much things were and Rampage just said ok. Jackson can press charges yes?

65k is alot. i would like to see wha a high paid fighter pays in taxes and their expenses as far as training camps, parteners, gear and such. well maybe not gear cause im sure they get all that from their sponsors but it would be intresting to see what they really make.

by b.w. on Sep 8, 2008 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions
b.w.- Rampage has eluded to it and everyone has been able to put the pieces together. tito is just giving specifics- not his place but since his negotiations having been going well he has to do something to keep his name out there.
by DSmith on Sep 8, 2008 6:12 PM EDT up reply actions
Maybe Rampage still has respect for Juanito even though he stole from him, so he doesn’t want to publicly call him out. But what is the problem with Tito exposing this guy so he will not be able to rip off new, naive fighters coming into the game. I applaude Tito for calling out this piece of sh*t! Some you guys will find any reason to talk sh*t about Tito.
by BNF on Sep 8, 2008 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions
BNF. true! i rip on tito every chance i get. i still say tito doesnt ALWAYS tell it like it is, just as he (and jenna)percieves things to be. example: he has had a pretty hard time getting signed with anyone after making his “grounbreaking” announcment with Affliction that Atencio quickly denied. tito thought he had it in the bag and announced it publicly and was proven to be wrong.
by b.w. on Sep 8, 2008 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s probably a good thing he didn’t sign with Affliction considering they will fold after the next show. We are 1 month out and there is no buzz about it. Nobody is going to buy the next PPV. I would be amazed if they do half the number of buys as the first show.
Tito always speaks his mind and I respect that. I don’t remember the public announcment he made about Affliction, but I will take your word for it. He could have been given bad information from Atencio. I don’t know what Atencio has done for you to take his word as the gospel. He seems a little shady IMO.

My statement wasn’t made b/c I dislike Tito. Granted, I am not nearly as much of a fan of his recently, but he really earned my respect when he proved to be an outstanding coach on TUF. I would have said the exact same thing about WHOEVER said that. While I understand it might benefit up and coming fighters to hear about this so they will be wary of Juanito and others like him, in my world a friend’s personal business is something that is their choice (and their choice alone) to air publicly.

The issues isn’t the 65k it is that Juanito probably told Rampage that Tito was charging 65k for big bear when Tito was only charging 35k and just kept the rest. The morons saying is it only 30k are idiots. the money ain’t the issues it is the lack of trust and begin stolen from. If you found out one of your friends was stealing form you would it matter it was 100 buck or 500? Not to me you crossed the line to steal and it wouldn’t be hard to steal more money if you could.

A confident, newly defined Rashad of today would knock Tito out, sorry. If you watch the end of the Tito Rashad fight, you see Rashad dominating the end of that fight. It was the first big name Rashad fought and I think he was a little nervous.

Ahh Tito, can’t quite stay out of the limelight. Obviously Rampage didn’t want to single out Juanito. He was doing the classy thing and not naming anyone (even though we all pretty much knew). Then here comes Tito, in everyone’s business, a h00ker for attention and the media. It sucks not having any company to fight for, so I guess he has to start getting into other peoples’ problems. It really sucks to be Tito. His life is so trite.

Unfortunately, most people will never get to hang out with Tito and get to know him. What people don’t realize is that he likes to create controversy. That’s because he has always been a big fan of fake wrestling. So, people just don’t know what he’s actually up to when he does the things he does. And I’m glad Tito is calling Ibarra’s name on this one! It lets the other fighters know what he’s doing before they get screwed!
