Amir Sadollah vs Nick Catone UFC 91 fight possible

sadollah catone
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 middleweight winner, Amir Sadollah (1-0), is expected to return to the Octagon against Nick Catone (5-0) at UFC 91 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 15, according to FiveOuncesOfPain.com.

Sadollah -- the unlikely champion of the most recent edition of the Spike TV mixed martial arts reality series -- shocked just about everyone (including himself) with wins over Steve Byrnes, Gerald Harris, Matt Brown and CB Dollaway in just six weeks.

And he stopped them all early despite sustaining damage in most if not all of his fights. Not bad for a fighter who had zero professional fights under his belt prior to the show, He’s a super resilient and crafty fighter in the mold of UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Sadollah defeated Dollaway (again) in the finals of the tournament-style format via first round armbar after Jesse Taylor pissed away his chances -- literally and figuratively -- with a drunken rampage in "Sin City" shortly after the show wrapped.

Catone -- who trains under Brazilian jiu-jitsu stud Ricardo Almeida in Hamilton, N.J. -- has been active since 2007 on the northeast fighting circuit. He has finished his last three opponents via technical knockout under the Ring of Combat banner.

This will mark the first fight for Catone inside the Octagon.

UFC 91, of course, is headlined by the blockbuster fight between heavyweight champion Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar. Top lightweight contenders Kenny Florian and Joe Stevenson are also expected to be in action.

by tuffguy01 on Sep 7, 2008 11:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

it seems so. he’s a meat head anywho. i didn’t see him going far. but he sure was entertaining.

by rob on Sep 7, 2008 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah he is gone……Dana didn’t take to kindly to his post Rampage freakout comments.

by Psyqo78 on Sep 8, 2008 1:09 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So Rampage murders a fetus and gets off and Taylor writes something about it and HE has to go while Rampage stays?
Sickening.

by RandomTask on Sep 8, 2008 3:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The only sickening thing is you spinning the truth and putting blame on Rampage for the miscarriage of a child. Medicals have cleared Rampage from that – his involvement was not the cause for the miscarriage.

Back to topic: Amir did good against nobody’s – next fight is against another nobody. We won’t be able to judge him until he faces real opponents, so the jury is still out on whether he is the real deal or not.

by YouTapped on Sep 8, 2008 5:38 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

youtapped: Good point. Until we see Amir fight someone with a little substance, who knows what level he is really at. Keep in mind, he had NO pro fights while on TUF.

His pro record right now is only 1-0. Still I root for the kid!

UFC want Gomi and KID! Planned UFC event in Japan for next summer?
????? – ????? : nikkansports.com

It says that Dana and Lorenzo want Gomi and KID. It also says that an UFC event in Japan is planned for next summer.

The SENGOKU people who Gomi belongs to say: It’s sengoku style to let someone who wants to do in (another) org (bad translation). If the person himself wishes for it there is no problem (better translation).

DREAM’s Keiichi Sasahara: It’s impossible at the present time.

Ishida has signed with tsrikeforce and will compete at the layboy mansion event.

Down the line I would love to see Ishida vs. THe Punk

or a rematch between Ishida vs. El Nino!

I got zero problems with Amir fighting someone that is 5-0. Amir is 1-0. He is not Brock Lesnar so he’s not going to start fighting the elite after one fight. I actually hope they take thier time and groom Amir. He’s young, he has all the intangibles, and a great willingness to learn. With the right camp and the right manager and promoters he can go a long way, but he needs to start off slow. What do some of you people expect? For Nate Marquardt to beat him down in his first fight?

BTW, that was the fight that I was finally impressed by Nate. Yes, he has looked good in the past, but ever since his UFC debut, I always thought he was overhyped. But, not any longer.

by ViolentMike on Sep 8, 2008 9:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree! I also thought Nate was overhyped but he earned that hype on Saturday. I am NOW a believer!

Nate vs. Henderson should be booked next!

Amir will get much better training at Extreme Couture! At this point in his young career, anyone they match him up against is a good opponent. He needs some wins under his belt and a guy I never heard oif will make for a perfect opponent.

Throwing Amir to the wolves doesnt do anyone anygood. With that said, I would have hoped that this match up were held on a UFN card instead of a ppv main card!

by john on Sep 8, 2008 9:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So is this Catone fellow a BJJ guy like Almeida? That could make for an interesting fight, seeing how in four of his five TUF fights, the finale being the exception, Amir got beaten on before pulling a sub out of his ass. How will he fare against a guy who is probably good enough to avoid those subs?

by PW on Sep 8, 2008 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

great to be first!!! chee heee..

picks so far…

winner: randy couture
winner: joe stevenson

by boardRIDER on Sep 7, 2008 11:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You weren’t first,

winner: LESNAR
winner: FLORIAN

by Chase on Sep 7, 2008 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hate that first comment b.s. and I have to agree with you Chase on the outcomes of those two fights.

by Psyqo78 on Sep 8, 2008 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i agree with chase. although florian has got to avoid those guillotine chokes. he might magically catch florian with it like joe did on his last fight.

by weoweoweo on Sep 8, 2008 2:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Lesnar I think is going to KTO or KO Couture, and I think that Florian is going to win by decision. The only thing Couture has over Lesnar is Exp. and I don’t think it will be enough to handle everything that Lesnar brings to the table.

by Chase on Sep 8, 2008 3:06 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yup. On Thursday of last week I noticed that the odds for Lesnar / Couture were up on BetUs. They opened at

Lesnar Even
Couture -140

I instantly put some money down on Lesnar at those odds. I do not see either of these fighers being + anything for this fight, and I favor Brock to win. So, getting Brock at even money was perfect for me. Yesterday when I checked the odds they changed to

Lesnar -115
Couture -125

JOHN, that isn’t too far off from my Couture -130 Brock -110 prediction!

And all Florian needs to do is avoid that darn guillatine and he will have no problem out striking Joe and hopefully stopping his takedown.

by ViolentMike on Sep 8, 2008 9:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I told you that you are pretty good at predicting the odds. i got $100 on Lesnar at even money already! too good to pass up on and I want Greedy Couture to get MAULED anyway!

by john on Sep 8, 2008 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Second isn’t bad. I have to disagree with your pics though. I am taking the animal Brock and I am hesitant but am thinking Florian over Joe. Florian had a hard time with Sherk though and Joe presents the same wrestling issues Sherk would.

by halljam2 on Sep 7, 2008 11:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Kenny has come a long way since the sherk fight, also i do not believe stevenson is as strong a wrestler as sherk, i see kenny by decision again… joe daddy is pretty tough so i dont think hell get submitted or TKO’d

by brendan on Sep 7, 2008 11:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

keith jardine +140 brandon vera -180 lines just opened up for that fight! im laying some dough down on jardine for sure! cant believe hes the favorite!

by brendan on Sep 8, 2008 12:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

cant believe veras the favorite that is

by brendan on Sep 8, 2008 12:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well u better watch cause jardine is gonna get knocked out vera-mir style. :)

by weoweoweo on Sep 8, 2008 2:02 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jardine either puts on the performance of his life (beating Forrest and Liddell) or he just completely falls apart and gets KO’d in 30 seconds (Jardine and Wanderlei).

And Vera’s last fight was his first at 205 so I find it very difficult to confidently pick the winner of this fight because I find them both to be too unpredictable.

by ViolentMike on Sep 8, 2008 9:36 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I take it you meant Houston… not himself.

by UFCAddict on Sep 8, 2008 10:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i think brock is gonna knock randy out highlight reel style. and im gonna go for joe daddy i think hes to strong for florian but it will def. be a good fight.

by tuffguy01 on Sep 7, 2008 11:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I see Brock in Knock out fashion also, But I see Kenny winning a decision.

by Chase on Sep 7, 2008 11:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

after seeing tuf 1 i would have never guessed kenny would be where he is now and he gets better and better and it would not surpeise me one bit if he did get a decision win.

by tuffguy01 on Sep 7, 2008 11:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, but no matter who wins, I see this being an exciting technical fight.

by Chase on Sep 8, 2008 12:03 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kenny should be able to get a decision on Joe. I really want Randy to beat Brock. But Brock is a beast.

by Kdog on Sep 8, 2008 12:42 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock is going to flatten Randy. And Kill-Flo is going to whip Joe Daddy with his muay thai before putting Joe on his back and pounding out a TKO.

by PW on Sep 8, 2008 12:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

im actually hoping brock wins by brutal KO. randy is a greedy person, acting like its about fedor, but the real reason for his bitching was money.

i just hope brock doesnt do a rookie mistake, cause i think he will really beat up randy standing or by pounding him out. Its not like randy has some wicked jits to save him from brock riding/pounding him the whole match.

by weoweoweo on Sep 8, 2008 2:06 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know amir is from my town, Richmond, VA, but I was wondering if he is still training here or whether he has moved to a prominent camp to better prepare. Does anyone know?

by chefdaddy on Sep 7, 2008 11:50 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

They said he’s “in the mold” of Nog, so I’m guessing he’s been training in Miami. But that’s baseically a guess.

by Toms Bombs on Sep 8, 2008 12:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Think that comment meant more that he takes an ass kicking then pulls off last minute submissions after losing the opening stanza of a fight.

by DirtyML on Sep 8, 2008 12:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

pretty sure the writer meant that he takes alot of punishment in his fight and still wins, like nog seems to always do

by brendan on Sep 8, 2008 1:02 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He is currently a member of Xtreme Couture together with friend and teammate Forrest Griffin.

From his Wikipedia page on the internets.

by Rich B on Sep 8, 2008 12:18 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

At least people aren’t complaining about him fighting a newcomer. Lets hope that everyone remembers that he is a beginner with a lot of potential.

by RyanHobbs on Sep 8, 2008 2:43 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

so, if you bet 100 and Lesnar was at Even..if he wins…how much money do you make from that?

by noob on Sep 8, 2008 11:13 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You risk $100 to win $100. At his current odds of -115 you would have to risk $115 to win $100.

by PW on Sep 8, 2008 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with Violentmike all except the fact that Jardine had anything to do with losing to Wanderlei in 30 sec. that was all wandi and he would do it ten out of ten baby.

I do want Jardine to win this one though and I think he is going to.
