Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar video UFC 91 on ESPN

The media blitz for the bout between heavyweight champion Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 is already insane ... and we're still more than two months away from fight night:

I am afraid that the hype will be far better than the fight. Brock will defeat Randy convincingly. No doubt.

by OJR on Sep 3, 2008 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

seriously though OJR, the fight was announced yesterday and look how many video and audio interviews or press conferences we already had! This is going too fast too soon, by the time fight night comes I’d most likely be very tired of all propaganda. But oh well, the fight should be good to go through this thing, but it won’t match the hype!

by linx on Sep 3, 2008 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am still optimistic that it will somehow match the hype. I never thought that the Liddell/Wandy fight could ever match all the hype that it had for years and years, yet that fight definately delivered.

by naturalshadow on Sep 3, 2008 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the thing about wandy vs chuck is that they were both long term champions in the same division for different organizations, now that has the makings for being a great fight (as it was). randy vs lesnar cannot have the same weight, lesnar is 2-1 and his hype alone is already too far beyond where it needs to be IMHO.

by linx on Sep 3, 2008 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

linx it could be looked at as passing the torch? Randy as a wrestler passing it to a big strong and younger wrestler? And this is exactly what the UFC needs to do with this fight! Every other week have them do some interviews. By fight time, everybody and their grandma will know of this fight. If Affliction did half of this with Tim/Fedor they would have done abit better in their 1st show? Instead of promoting Affliction 2, they are out sponsoring a Nascar driver who came in 35th place?

by JV on Sep 3, 2008 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Linx and OJR, please don’t start with the “over hype” already. This fight was just announced and I became “gitty as a school girl”… uhhh, did I just say that, I mean boy… you know what I mean. But seriously, we always talk about MMA getting its due and getting more TV time, like ESPN and other channels because more exposure means we all win, right. So ESPN immediatly puts them on TV and begins the hype. GOOD. Isn’t this what we all want. If this would have been happening when Anderson/Hendo was announced NO WAY you guys would complain. Just because you don’t necessairly love the fighters they are talking about doesn’t make the fight any less important or any less exciting to the majority of the fans, myself included.

by BNF on Sep 3, 2008 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t doubt this fight will be a good fight, I’m just saying it doesn’t measure up to being a liddell vs wandy fight. And I sure do hope MMA gets more exposed and if this fight helps in that sense, so be it (but I know for a fact that you two, BNF and JV were all against some other fighters getting some national attention, yall know who I’m talking about… LOL)

by linx on Sep 3, 2008 4:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

JV your post wasn’t even up when I wrote mine. Good minds… To expand on your point it is David vs. Goliath, Rookie vs. Veteran, Old vs. Young. This fight has something for everyone. Maybe it is just me, but I am so excited for this fight and I normally could care less about HW. There is so much at stake for both fighters and I love all the hype, it can never be enough for me. Why do you think I am on this site so much?

What fighter linx???

BNF, Thats what Im talking about!!!!! Im a fan of both, so whatever the outcome, Ill be ok with it! Like you say, I dont care how much hype this fight gets. Im going to watch every interview, every video, and every bit of news! ITS A GOOD TIME TO BE A MMA FAN!!!!

kimbo slice LMAO

by linx on Sep 3, 2008 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LMAO! linx, I dont really mind the exposure Kimbo gets. To me, its more the opponent choice! I like watching him fight, I just want EliteXC to test him.

by JV on Sep 3, 2008 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ahhh…. Kimbo Slice. He can get all the hype in the world, I am just too smart to believe it. Now Brock, on the other hand, I believe that hype.

by BNF on Sep 3, 2008 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I used to be a huge Randy fan, but after his shenanigans, I hope Brock pounds him into a vedgatative state!

Couture should not be uFC champion, but I am very happy that its 5 round instead of 3. Then again, I dont really think it will last longer than 3 rounds.

by john on Sep 3, 2008 5:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This will go the distance if Randy doesn’t outpound Lesnar. The question comin’ into this fight is, who will be doin’ most of the poundin’?

by TheNegation on Sep 3, 2008 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Amazing fight!!! this is one where Couture is once again the underdog… Brock does not have a lack of confidence, he feels he’ll destroy Couture. The fun doesn’t stop there one of them will be fighting NOG or MIR… how do u like them apples!?… This will bring excitement to the hvwy div. It has been floundering for years! If u don’t like these matchups then u don’t like the hvwy division period!

by THORAZINE on Sep 3, 2008 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i dunno about Couture being the underdog. looking around the net, the casual fan seems to be saying that Brock is gonna get smashed, so i wouldn’t be surprised at this point to see brock as the underdog in the initial odds.

by kitsunex on Sep 3, 2008 11:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

WEll if Couture is indeed the underdog, then better cash in on Randy ‘coz that’s where the greens are at!!

by TheNegation on Sep 3, 2008 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like that “hype will be far better than the fight” OJR. This could be another one of ’em Florian-vs-Huertas, hehe!!

by TheNegation on Sep 3, 2008 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock Lesnar should have to fight Bob Sapp since lesnar is naturally a SUPER heavyweight at around 290 lbs!!! then if he could get past Sapp the ufc should bring Mark Hunt over to fight him since hunt weight between 290-300 lbs. if lesnar could beat those 2 guys then he’d have my respect, but until he beats someone who isn’t 40-50 lbs lighter than he is, it’s just my opinion but i can’t respect that.

by deuce 4 on Sep 3, 2008 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock would crush Sapp. Sapp has absolutely no skill. Even his punches are tough to look at. Weight isn’t everything, just watch Cro Cop vs. Sapp.

Yeah, he gets impish sometimes…

by OJR on Sep 3, 2008 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Firstly sarcasm is hard to detect over the internet and also why would he be sarcastic to someone (b.w.) who was saying how great the site was, kind of a dickish thing to do if he was.

i believe you. i didnt know it either for a long while. i had yahoo.com as my homepage for a long time. then my nephew got on my pc and seen that i was on this site alot. he tried to write some gay-a$$ shit about me when he figured out my user name, as a prank,, but i caught him 1rst and gave him the boot. i got back on and seen he had made mania as my homepage as well. i thought fck, this is the 1rst site i hit everyday and the 1 i hit most, so why change a good thing.

by b.w. on Sep 3, 2008 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

wow macho, calm down. I just find it very funny that mania has a site and doesn’t know how to save a homepage site (which he just confirmed he didn’t know). I mean, being the owner of the site you can see how many ppl has it bookmarked, and yet he said “you can do that?”… just seems really funny in a way LOL.

Randy better work on his jits because he is going to get taken down right off the bat. Brock doesn’t want to stand with Randy that’s for sure. I think Lesnar has the upper hand in this fight because of his size and athletic ability but he better be mistake free and he better just try to lay on top as much as possible.

jimmy_dean: I think w/Brock’s inexperience, we will see some stretches wherein Brock would like to stand and bang. But of course, he won’t be havin’ 2nd thoughts on taking the fight to the ground.

Chuck Norris or Jackie Chan could kick the Spider’s ass, lmao!

by TheNegation on Sep 3, 2008 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I could see Rashad giving Anderson a run for his money. I say this because stylistically he matches up nicely. Wrestling is Rashads base in MMA and I could see him taking on the Spider with it. Travis Lutter made Silva look human when he got him on the ground. why couldn’t Rashad? I thought Silva was going to get knocked out by Lutter. That was something else!

by RyanHobbs on Sep 5, 2008 2:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cote is the Canadian Leben. Silva will maul him. Now if Silva ever jumps up in weight and fights Liddell (which has been rumored off and on several times), THAT would be a huge seller.

True and true.

by DDT on Sep 3, 2008 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They’re old guys. It’s hard-wired into their frontal lobes to fear change and hate new things, especially new things that threaten dinosaur things they love, such as boxing.

by PW on Sep 3, 2008 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

VM you pretty much described my morning…and after work too.. But I’ll repalce ATH with “ROME”.. Question for you bro..

about PTI.. you and both mentioned how we watch that show religously.. but why are Tony/Wilbom.. two " UNDER COVER MMA LOVERS "..

If you could pick 5 fights and show it to these to guys.. to get them out of the closet.. lets say within the last 5 or 6 yrs.. that you know without a doubt they will turn a page in the critism of MMA?? Which 5 fights would you show them??

This question is open for everyone to get their two cents or 5 fights in..

by PhilQNY on Sep 3, 2008 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Huerta vs. Guida comes to mind.

by DDT on Sep 3, 2008 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

griffin/bonner 1 for sure. randy/sylvia, fedor/cro-cop, wandi/chuck, any gsp, a. silva or b.j fight, just so they know. theres so many great ones, its hard to come up with just five. i would recommend Pride’s 10 year video (from zuffa) so they would know their history. i was gonna say frye/takayama, but they would probably think it was too “violent”. good question PHILNQY.

by b.w. on Sep 3, 2008 5:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would show them the sportsmanship between Drago, pete sell vs. Scot Smith

Nog vs. Cro Cop

Sakuraba vs. Wanderlei 3

anderson vs. Franklin 2

Gomi vs. Kawajiri

Gomi vs. Diaz

by john on Sep 3, 2008 6:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Phil, I really like to watch Rome as well. The problem is that I get out at 5 and I get home and just turn on ESPNHD.

ACTUALLY, what I’m doing when I get home is set my dvr to rrecord all Rome, ATH, and PTI that way I can begin watching Rome when I get home, fast forward the commmercials, and by 6 I’d be done with all. Good Idea…

Regarding your question, WTF, its already past 5, I am OUT OF HERE!!!!!!!!!!

by ViolentMike on Sep 3, 2008 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’d bypass the UFC and show them Torres vs Maeda. I’d also probably show Faber vs Pulver as well; probably still one of the biggest fights in WEC history.

I’d also show anything with Frank Edgar or Anderson Silva. Maybe also Huerta Garcia; that was a sick fight.

by JB on Sep 3, 2008 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

agreed, I’d Definatley show Torres Maeda.

1.Torres vs Maeda
2.Tyson Griffin vs Clay Guida
3.Tyson Griffin vs Frankie Edgar
4.Chuck vs Wandy
5.Griffin vs Bonner 1

there are so many great fights I’m sure I’m leaving a couple out. I wanted to list a couple of Anderson Silva fights, but none of them have really been close except the Hendo and Lutter fights which were a little boring. Honerable mentions were GSP vs Matt Hughes 2, Rampage vs Forrest, Uriah Faber vs Jeff Curran, and Matt Hughes vs Frank Trigg 1 or 2.

by DB on Sep 3, 2008 8:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Couture vs Gonzaga

by DSmith on Sep 3, 2008 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’d show them Rampage vs Chuck 1, Gomi vs Diaz, Fedor vs Randleman, Fedor vs Cro Cop, Big Nog vs Bob Sapp.

Those all are very exciting fights to me, and I think they would make a good intro for a casual fan into MMA.

by DirtyML on Sep 3, 2008 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So you would only show them fights from a defunct organization?

by naturalshadow on Sep 5, 2008 2:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The five fights to show them is a pretty tough call but I know two fights just off the top of my head NOT to show them:

Belfort vs. Eastman (LOL I don’t think either of them would watch after seeing the vagina on Eastman’s head…)

Kalib Starnes vs. Nate Quarry (the infamous “running man” fight, that was brutal to watch)

This fight is going to be so freakin Huge. I can Imagine it having way over 1.5M Buys. And for everybody who’s an Idiot, Stop Comparing Tim Silvia with Brock Lesnar, they are 2 different fighters, Tim is stand up, Lesnar is a National Wrestler. Couture will Not manhandle Lesnar like he did with tim, And if you think other wise, you are an MMA Noob. And Early someone tried to compare Bob Sapp To Brock, that almost made me shit my pants. Sapp would get killed by Brock and he is only a freak show. Brock Lesnar is the REAL DEAL. He’s going to Destroy Couture, on the feet or on the ground, then He will Most Likley face Nog, In witch I hope he shocks the world and gets the Title. Nog is only good On the ground. and Only beat both Silvia, and Herring Becuase he got Lucky with a submission, he wasn’t winning anypart of the fight until then. I don’t want to see a champion Lose the whole fight then win with a Stupid Submission, He will neevr be A PPV Draw fighting like that. Lesnar Dominated Herring, and he would Dominate Sylvia also, Much better then what Nog Did, He’s going to Train his Jits Defence, and he Will Beat Nog. -FACT

by linx on Sep 3, 2008 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL.

I will watch it again. The point being that Brock is an impressive physical specimen and he has a mean streak.

If Nog gets caught by Brock it could be a short lived fight.

by OJR on Sep 3, 2008 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

nog has good boxing and was beating herring standing, herring caught him with a great kick and thats it,nog already beat him twice before that and chase obviously has no idea who nog is.

by roy on Sep 3, 2008 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

but see, ppl are overlooking nog’s great endurance, he fought ppl like fedor, josh barnett and cro cop. The dude can take a punch. That kick that he got from heath was the most devastating blow he ever gotten in any of his fights, that has to be the closest anyone was ever able to KO him, and he still got back to his feet. that’s what I call a great champ! Now, heath is not as great as cro cop, fedor or barnett IMO, I’m not saying that kick was lucky, but it definitely was a surprise. Nog can take a punch, and lesnar sure has a huge size advantage, but IMHO he cannot punch as hard as fedor (yes), crocop (yes) or barnett (yep!).

by linx on Sep 3, 2008 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed.

Nog’s record is undisputed. He is great. I was just playing what ifs…

by OJR on Sep 3, 2008 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

In agree with Chase, except for the part about being 100 percent definitive on Brock beating Nog. Not to say it couldn’t happen. I think Lesnar can and will beat Nog if he fights intelligently, but Nog is one of the very fighters that will give Lesnar trouble over his career.

I’m telling you, Mir will win this whole thing. You can put that down in the books right now.

Mir is overrated.

Mir’s highlight of snapping Sylvia’s arm can only carry you so far.

Mir got owned by a blown up LHW named Vera.

Mir was gift wrapped a decision by Mazzagatti against Brock.

You can put down in the bankruptcy books how much $$$ you are going to lose betting on Mir, too.

I didnt know that Maz helped Mir apply the kneebar! What fight were you watching buddy?! Oh you must mean when Brock like the noob that he is hit Mir in the back of the head repeatedly. Is than what you meant?

by bostonmmajunkie on Sep 3, 2008 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

When The Moustache immediately stood them up and deucted a point instead of warning him eight times like he does everyone else? Mir turned his head after Brock began swinging his arm. That was not an illegal shot. Any competent ref (Big John) would have let that go.

boston, lets say you’re playing tetris and you’re on level 50, record high score, just knocking out rows and then your kid brother pauses the game. after returning to the game, you lose! whos fault is that?! thats dirrrrty!!

by kama kaze on Sep 3, 2008 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

you wish he was overrated! how can he be overrated when he’s barely even rated?! Give me a break!

Let’s see: he’s got solid stand-up, good wrestling, plus he’s ‘A’ level on the ground for a heavyweight, weighs 255 so he’s about the biggest HW this side of Lesnar in the UFC and oh yeah, he’s very smart and very athletic not to mention young and now re-dedicating himself after the horrific injury.

Tell me that doesn’t make up a great fighter.

i have to agree, it will be interesting to see if randy can control brock in the clinch, personaly i think brock will be to strong for than and i can’t see randy getting the KO so i have to go with brock. if nog beats mir i think brock vs nog would be very interesting, if they fought tomorrow i would say nog subs him but by the time the fight happens it will be 6-8 months from now, by that time brock should have good enough bjj defense to beat him.

“And Early someone tried to compare Bob Sapp To Brock, that almost made me shit my pants. Sapp would get killed by Brock and he is only a freak show”

Are you kidding me? Sapp has some very solid K1 credentials, with wins over the likes of Ernesto Hoost (twice). He is also MUCH bigger than Lesnar (by about 100 lbs, actually). To call Sapp a joke with recent K1 success before the Nog fight, then claim Brock is a god for 10 year old wrestling credentials… THAT is a joke

“Nog is only good On the ground. and Only beat both Silvia, and Herring Becuase he got Lucky with a submission, he wasn’t winning anypart of the fight until then.”

First off, Nog has very solid boxing. Second, he didn’t beat herring with a sub. He beat him by decision, because he DOMINATED him the entire fight besides that one kick. Also, the Sylvia fight wasn’t as one sided as people think. Watch the second round again without Rogan’s bias.

“I don’t want to see a champion Lose the whole fight then win with a Stupid Submission, He will neevr be A PPV Draw fighting like that”

Go watch toughman competitions. You obviously know nothing about mma.

Well, that is one way to kilL the Kimb vs Shamrock hype. This fight will have record hype and poor Brock is done for. He has no submissions and no real submission defense…the only way he wins in KO and he could not KO Herring, who in round 3 was nothing but a turtle.

Kinda funny that things are falling in place for Mir vs Lesnar2,I personally believe that Nog has the advantage ,but you can’t overlook Mir .Everytime it seems that Mir gets overlooked is when he shocks everyone.I also believe that this match[Couture vs Lesnar],is going to be hard for Couture to match up ,it is basically Couture going against a bigger ,stronger, faster Couture.Brock is just as good of a amateur wrestler as Couture , I just can not see where Couture has an advantage ,except experiance, which to me,is his only chance.Couture is the best at coming up with gameplans.

by scott on Sep 3, 2008 3:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t necessarily think Lesnar is a younger couture. Lesnar is freestyle, whereas Couture is greco. Couture is also one of, of not THE best in mma for mixing strikes with takedowns. His mma wrestling from a technical standpoint is definitely superior to lesnar’s. Hell, his striking is also superior to lesnar’s from a technical standpoint at that. Couture is also the best game planner in mma.

To me it all boils down to whether or not Couture, who is the much more technically sound fighter, can overcome someone as fast and as powerful as Lesnar. The only similar style matchup I can think of is Randleman, but that was years ago.

by yohnstoppable on Sep 3, 2008 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ll agree with that, but will he be able to dirty box Brock,NO.I can not see Randy stopping an attempt to take him down.I think he will stay on top of Randy ,and I see it ending in the second round .I don’t think Randy can take the punishment that Herring took, but Randy has beat a bunch of people he was not suppose to match up with so who knows ,but i can hardly wait

by scott on Sep 3, 2008 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

When Randy fought Ganzaga, I thought it would be a long shot for him to win….but when I saw Randy lift Gonzaga in the air and then slam him all 250 some odd pounds to the mat and break his nose…I knew Randy would win. I think Brock is going to be a VERY hard match for Randy to win, but I think he does have a chance. Brock cant punch hard, but not fast. If Randy can avoid the big punches and try not to end up on bottom, I think he can do ok.

I have to pick Randy to win based on experience and cage smarts.

by DBG on Sep 3, 2008 5:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think it will be Mir/Lesnar 2 as well but I will throw this out there — Couture can win this fight IF he devotes the majority of his training to a gameplan that focuses on Jui-Jitsu!! The only way he wins this fight is if he pulls a Mir.

personally i dont know who to pick in this fight, do you go with the crafty veteran or do you go with the up and comer who is younger, faster and stronger? I want to see what brock can do if he is put on his back but i dont know if anyone can get him their because he is so damn big and athletic and comes from that great wrestling background. I want to see what brock can do if the fight is on the feet for more than thirty seconds at a time i know has great power he has landed two punches so far in his career and both have dropped his oppenent. I think brock is still unproven but he will presents problems to anybody in the world and i dont know if couture is the guy to beat him, personally i think couture has a better chance at beating fedor than he does brock lesnar

This is a laugh, he wins 1 fight in the ufc and he gets a title shot??! JOKE!
I think the guy has the ability to be hard to beat and maybe even be a champ, but unfortunately these days you dont have to earn a title shot you just get one!!
Randy IMO is getting too old, I hope he can show the skills that he will need to in order to beat brock, however it is doubtful!!! He was demolished twice by chuck and since then he hasnt fought the real top calibre of fighter, yeah ok, gonzaga is ok as is Tim sylvia, but they are not the best of the best, that has been proven since!!
Randy could be found wanting in this fight and I think Dana knows this, I also think Dana knows that time is on his hands in relation to getting the match he thinks will be the seller…Fedor v Brock. Its just unfortunate thats its going down this way!! Prove me wrong Randy please!!!!!!!!

by mo on Sep 3, 2008 6:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Can’t help but think the fix will be on in this fight. Randy gets out of his contract (and goes on to fight Fedor), Dana gets the belt back to one of his fighters, UFC’s up and coming big name and big expense (Lesnar) is legitimized — all that has to happen is Randy has to lose and everybody is happy.

Too many bad things happen (to Dana and UFC) if Randy wins. Lesnar by KO in round one.

by Firebringer on Sep 3, 2008 7:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

hmmmm something to pnder for sure….but Randy stuck a 3 fight deal remember that bit? So why wouldnt he just deal Dana to a one fight deal or 2 fights tops? I’m guessing Randy suspects he will school Brock then go on and beat he winner of Mir and Big Nog…Randy knows the only route to Fedor is to fight other fighters. You dont see Fedor waiing around for Randy do you?

by Chadx23 on Sep 3, 2008 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well this will be interesting! I wish someone would pound Brocks a**!! He has no respect for other fighters and is way to cocky! This is a huge challenge for Randy.I hope he comes up with a great game plan and shocks the world again! If he dont then Bring in Fedor to put Brock in his place! As for Nog,I would much rather see Randy fight him.Its a better fight and I think Randy would win.Now what would be really interesting is Randy and Frank Mir.Mir already stated he would never fight Randy.

by Charlie Sharlow on Sep 3, 2008 7:35 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Also they are suppose to be trying to get a fight between Fedor and Randy already .Trying to make it happen in ufc .So that would cancel that out

by scott on Sep 3, 2008 7:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i thnk this fight will going to be desame as randleman vs couture before, as Lesnar will goping to outwrestle Couture for the 1st few minutes of the fight & randy will spend some minutes on his guard trying to neutralaize Lesnar’s ground & pound, then as fight goes on the technique & experience of Couture will going to show on the fight & Lesnar will be confuse about what he’s going to do,then couture will come out on top

i think it Ground & Pound victory by Couture (Round4)

Brock ncaa wrestler…Randy Olympic alternate wrestler big difference. Randy also knows submissions although not known for them he has the edge on Brock in submissions. In Randy’s last fight against Gonzaga Randy got his arm broken by a kick and still won. The fight will go to the ground du, two wrestlers…then what? GNP by Brock? Don’t think so. Randy work on bjj it isthe only way to stop the blonde yetti.

I was a Randy fan now I am not because os his sell out attitude, I hate Brock with a passion too, but it would be be fun to see Brock smash Randy’s face in. My dream Brock smashes Randy face then he leaves the cage trips breaks his femur in two places and never fights again.

C-war that is true, but when Brock got into Mir’s ankle lock he tapped quickly, I’m thinking if Couture can rough him up a bit and punch his nose… Brock’s eyes will tear up and he’ll be in Couture’s world… Brock needs to overwhelm and KO Randy in the 1st round.

Brock claims he “made a statement” at his last fight??? Yah the statement was that he can’t finish a fight and that he is a jackass!! Randy is going to destroy him in the first round. As much as I hate randy, I think he is too much for Lesnar…unless brock hides a steel chair under the octagon or has the Undertaker do a run-in and give Randy the Tombstone Piledriver straight to hell! HAHAHAHAHAHA

I agree with you on Brock’s fight with Herring. I know he dominated him, but if he had taken his back and gotten his hooks in, he wouldve been able to flatten him out and pounded him out. Amateur mistake that even I know about, and I don’t even train on a pro MMA level. And all that rodeo BS at the end is so friggin childish. I thought I was watching that ass-clown Josh Koscheck after his mediocre fight against Diego. Brock’s new nickname should be “The Next Big Ass-Clown”.

by --utaptout-- on Sep 4, 2008 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Will Randy even be able to bodylock the F-5 machine?

That could be a huge limitation, since controlling the clinch is an important part of his game.

Also Randy is not going to be able to KO Brock, judging by the size of Lesnars neck id say he has a better then average chin, and the height advantage he has, Randy will be punching up all the time which takes some of the leverage off his shots.

I actually think Randy will be able to take Brock down easier then most people think, Brock’s strength and power is mostly located in his upper body, his legs are leaner then the rest of him, so his sprawl will be something which the Natural can work through.

Randy has to work to not get caught with any shots though, because he doesnt have the Nogueira guard, and once Randy gets knocked down he doesnt usually survuve the fight unlike Nogueira, Forrest or Fitch.

by rhys on Sep 4, 2008 7:04 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Randy is more of a greco roman wrestler, which utilizes clinch work and upper body manipulation combined with trips and sweeps to get takedowns (see dan hendersons takedown of anderson silva in the 1st round of their fight for an example). Randy doesn’t have the explosive shot that freestyle wrestlers like Koscheck, Sherk and GSP do. He might be able to take him down with a single or double, but I doubt he’ll do it with a body lock. Randy is an expert at pinpointing an opponents weakness and then exploiting it though, so I won’t count him out.

by --utaptout-- on Sep 4, 2008 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m very excited for this fight, but I still think Randy should have to fight Nog right now to unify the belt, Brock should fight a guy like Cain Velazquez, and Mir should fight Kongo. Lets face facts. Brock is unproven, and Mir got LUCKY against him. Mir was an inch away from coma in the Lesnar fight and Brock was stopped only because he tapped Mir on the back of the head when Mir turned away from him. Mir hasn’t done anything else worth mentioning in a very long time. I think this whole situation is unfair to Nog, and he’s being disrespected, even though he’s the most accomplished fighter out of all the names I just mentioned. The UFC knows what they are doing though, and this turn of events will be a HUGE draw, and probably alot bigger than my scenario. Btw, I still want to see a Fedor fight with Couture, and I hope it happens sometime soon. I still maintain that Fedor is the best HW in the world, and I would lkike to see him prove it.

by --utaptout-- on Sep 4, 2008 1:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

brock has balls, but he seems nervous. It seems that the UFC wants this sensationalism to compete with Affliction. Nog and Couture are co-champions. Brock will be easy for Couture. They should give Kongo to nogueira to bw fair. Not that Kongo is a joke just an easy match for Nog because of the ground game difference. Once it hits the ground it’ll be game over. which may affect Kongo’s stand-up – he’ll be worried. Nog should have learned not to continued boxing if it’s not going so well (after Tim Sylvia dominated the stand-up). The first time Kongo let a long limb astray nog will detach it and air mail it to brazil or france or somewhere other than on Kongo’s body

Herring just turtled – boring and a bad strategy too!
After the initial bull rush, flying knee crap Randy will hit brock,
If they get close (brock’s forte), Brock will taste elbows over and under and knees to unexpected places. Brock will have to stay in that frenzy a much as he can cause once it goes tactical he’ll become hamburger
