I knew you would be the first to comment on something that you “hate” so much, face it youre a fan!!

by Rickrude on Sep 3, 2008 11:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, you caught me. I’m a big fan of the most mediocre MMA promotion on the planet.

by the_mexicutioner on Sep 3, 2008 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That promotional abortion would need to go about 10 levels up just to get to mediocre.

by PW on Sep 3, 2008 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Elite XC and Kimbo are awful, and I don’t think anyone can argue that. On top of that, the UFC has a bunch of giant cards on the way, so I think Elite has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. That being said, they are the only promotion to show female fights. When they go under, I hope someone else will present some good female fights. I can’t imagine not being able to see Gina’s boob… err… fights anymore.

What’s going to be more popular… this fight or the Couture vs. Brock fight?

by UFCAddict on Sep 3, 2008 9:43 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I would think Couture/Brock fight is going to pull in more numbers, but IMHO, not by far..Kimbo has an incredible fan base, and is a very big draw..Then you throw Shammy in there, and you have record breaking numbers..Prepare for more EliteXC on CBS because this fight as bad as it looks to “die-hard” MMa fans, is going to be a great sucsess for EXC and CBS…HUGE

by Stagger-Lee on Sep 3, 2008 10:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right Stagger, but if you consider Randy’s and Brock’s fans combined[considering a lot of people I know have heard of BRock through WWE], they may outnumber Kimbo’s and Shammy’s. Just a speculation though, I really don’t have the crunching numbers.

by TheNegation on Sep 3, 2008 10:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think the only reason that the numbers will be close is because the UFC will be on PPV, and Elite XC will be on network television. Even so, I still see more eyes on the UFC fight, it just may not show up on the ratings because a lot of those eyes will be at a bar. haha

by naturalshadow on Sep 4, 2008 2:21 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

UFC-ADDICT. 1 is on ppv the other on free tv. elite will draw more free viewers than the ufc will ppv buyers. as far as being most popular, randy and brock were already on espn’s first take this morning so the buzz for that fight has already begun. i havent heard much about kimbo/ken on a national level yet, but im sure as the fight nears there will be more talk about it being that it is on cbs. i kinda think elite will get a little bump from all this mma talk about brock/randy. elite is a sham, but it’s free so im going to watch it.

by b.w. on Sep 3, 2008 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

is that a serious question? you put kimbo vs. shamrock on ppv it will be lucky to draw 100,000 buys, randy vs. brock will be near the 1,000,000 mark easily. Randy and shamrock have some things in common like both being old and both being pioneers of the sport, they also have a huge difference and that is their skill levels today, also kimbo has fought nobodies while brock has fought experienced veterans and former champs.

by matt on Sep 3, 2008 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock vs Couture is nothing compared to this card. lol

Kinda lost its thunder after the Couture vs Lesnar announcement. Has Elite XC still not figured out that it doesn’t pay to highlight Kimbo’s street fights. You want the general public to actually respect the sport of MMA yet you still show street fighting. Will the UFC counter promote with a free show on the same date?

by VNDK8 on Sep 3, 2008 9:47 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Did it ever really have thunder?

No, No room for anymore UFC shows in October. THere is alreday a UFN and a ppv for September and UFC 89 and 90 are both in October, 1 being a free event.

Lots of MMA in the next few months. Nice.

Couture vs Brock…same as…Kimbo vs Shamrock.

Am I the only one who realizes that both of these fights are as irrelevant as the next?

Kimbo/Shamrock will probably be more entertaining.

by introvert on Sep 3, 2008 10:01 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

if by the same you mean one is a real fighter and one belongs in youtube freak show fights, then yes they are the same.

by newkoba on Sep 3, 2008 10:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes…exactly.

Just because the UFC is behind one of the freakshows doesn’t make it any less of a freakshow.

by introvert on Sep 3, 2008 11:09 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock = national champion wrestler fighting world class HW opponents.

Mimbo = street thug and reigning King of Back Yards and Parking Lots.

Calling Brock a freak because his combination of size, strength and speed border on superhuman and are unparalleled in the MMA world is fine, but to say that he is some carnival act and suggest that he doesn’t belong in the octagon is just plain stupid.

by PW on Sep 3, 2008 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

PW,

While I generally offer no corrections to your post, allow me this one.

Mimbo = street thug and reigning King of Back Yards, Parking Lots, and Porno sets.

Thank you.

by Jeff on Sep 3, 2008 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i wasn’t agreeing with introvert, looks as if he believes differently. brock is a freak of nature not a freak show. kimbo is a freak show that as jeff said = street thug and reigning King of Back Yards, Parking Lots, and Porno sets.

PW: Get it right, its not Mimbo anymore, he is Fergie NOw, lol

last time i checked brock is fighting real competition while kimbo is fight nobodies who are tailor made for him, also randy vs. brock is for the ufc heavyweight title also brock will beat shamrock easily and brock will beat kimbo easily also randy will beat shamrock easily and randy will beat kimbo easliy

by naturalshadow on Sep 4, 2008 2:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Much chatter lately about the UFC potentially co-promoting with other organizations to set up a fight with Fedor…why stop there…
EliteXC/UFC… Lets put the two seniors, Ken & Randy in a no-holds-barred wheelchair match.
Then the Jokes, Kimbo & Brock can then square off in a match that could be also co-promoted with the WWE.
That way, the scripting won’t be a surprise to everyone.

by talkman on Sep 3, 2008 10:55 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Shamrock isn’t in Couture’s league.. not even near it.. and Kimbo isn’t in Brock’s.. Make a comparison that makes sense next time.

by O damn he got caught on Sep 3, 2008 11:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Shamrock isn’t in Couture’s league right now. But both of ‘em are in the UFC HAll of Fame so don’t you think that by default, theyre still in the same league?

by TheNegation on Sep 3, 2008 10:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

When these idiots use Mimbo’s backyard fights to promote his MMA fights, that microscopic sliver of credibility they had goes flying out the window.

by PW on Sep 3, 2008 11:30 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Whats worse for MMA’s image, Rampage driving around like he’s in GTA 4 and killing a couples unborn baby or Kimbo on ESPN Mag? BJ Penn beating the sh1t out of a cop and going to jail or Kimbo doing a Nike commercial? Leben going to jail for fighting outside of the ring or Kimbo doing a Madden commercial? Garcia getting jailed for drugs or Kimbo fighting a main event? Dummies

Rickrude-

You have an excellent point.

by OJR on Sep 3, 2008 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow, I’d like to know how thats an excellent point. First off, I never got the news on them coming up with hard evidence that Jackson was responsible for that miscarriage. I thought they proved beyond a doubt that he had nothing to do with it. But hey, what do doctors know? And I like how you cite fighting outside the ring as bad for the image of mma, when Kimbo did the exact same thing to get famous, he just didn’t get CAUGHT and jailed being the only difference… So I guess according to you, it’s perfectly fine to be involved in illegal activity as long as you don’t get caught. Good message Rick..

by O damn he got caught on Sep 3, 2008 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kimbo has kept his nose clean and has been very respectful of MMA even though his skills are subpar.

UFC fighters have been in trouble with the law.

The point is pretty clear.

These are facts.

Just because you think Kimbo is a joke to MMA (and he is) does not make Rickrude’s blog invalid.

And, yes, it is an excellent point.

by OJR on Sep 3, 2008 12:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My counter point being that how can you argue fighting outside the ring is bad for MMA, when the guy your arguing for made his CARREER by doing just that, and aren’t those replays in that promo video STREET FIGHTS, OUTSIDE THE RING? At least in BJ Penn’s highlights before a UFC event airs you don’t see him punching a cop… But here we see Kimbo bare knuckle in someones back yard in a street fight..

by O damn he got caught on Sep 3, 2008 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Point being that Kimbo was not representing MMA at that time.

And that is a very big difference.

by OJR on Sep 3, 2008 12:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He’s representing MMA right now, and their showing highlights of him in a street fight…

by O damn he got caught on Sep 3, 2008 12:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So? He is not in charge of marketing. He can only control what he does now that he is in the world of MMA.

I don’t see your point, man so let’s just drop it.

You keep going back to his street fights.

You sound like a scratched CD.

by OJR on Sep 3, 2008 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Chalk that up to stupidity on Elite XC’s part. We’re trying to promote MMA as a legit sport, and they’re highlighting street fights.

But whatever, Elite XC has never been the upper class of MMA. Let Elite XC be the rap version of MMA.

Examples:

- Brett Rogers’ open letter on the Kimbo vs Shamrock situation. Thing may as well have been a rap song. Lame lyrics included. “Do you wake up staring at light or the canvas?” Whatever Brett, you’re a tool. Kimbo’s a tool. Nobody cares.

- The VERY public feud between Shaw/Diaz vs Noons. This thing makes all parties look lame and immature. Shaw’s comments of “not embarrassing Noons because it’s a holiday” are really unprofessional. Makes the whole thing seem really childish. Noons has always been a bitch, period. Always will be. Hope he becomes the joke he deserves to be.

So whatever, let Elite XC cater to all the thugs and wiggers of the world. After all, we need something to laugh at them for.

TWO guys agreeing to fight, showing up at an appointed time, agreeing to be filmed, shaking hands afterwards is not the same as kicking the sh1t out of some guy at a bar, or fighting a cop. Yeah Im sure Rampage crashing into that pregnant lady with his monster truck had nothing to do with her miscarriage.

by Rickrude on Sep 3, 2008 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow, thats dense, you wanna penalize BJ penn and Leben for fighting outside the ring while their involved in the sport of mma, but since Kimbo makes more money now and doesn’t need to street fight, it’s ok to promote him to the mma community by showing highlights of him cracking no talent bums upside the head out on the street…

Here’s the “big difference” as I see it, niether BJ penn or Chris Leben or the UFC glorify their illicit fighting outside of a ring. Mr. “Street Certified” made a carreer out of it, and seemingly can’t get by without it being brought up everytime he’s involved in an event. Maybe he doesn’t have a say in how he’s promoted but I haven’t seen him complaining either.

What part of my point don’t you get?? The underlining premise of the first msg Rick wrote was that “Fighting outside the ring is bad for the sport”. How else do I interpret him bringing up Leben and Penn’s actions outside the ring vs what Kimbo is doing in the sport of MMA?

How are you gonna sit here and tell me that two fighters who have been in MMA for years, that mess up and fight outside the ring and get penalized are bad for the image of MMA, when this guy thats been street fighting for years, never gets in trouble with police because he never gets CAUGHT AND is still HEAVILY promoted as a street fighter is GOOD for the image of MMA?

by O damn he got caught on Sep 3, 2008 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dredg-

Also an excellent point.

by OJR on Sep 3, 2008 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rick, yea two guys agreed to a fight, bare knuckle with no ground game and basically no ref (at least not one thats concerned about anyone’s safety). The only way to win is for the other guy to give up or to knock him out. But knockouts don’t come after a standing 8 count.. no these guys get 30 or more secs in between knock downs.

You can KILL people that way, a guy his size cracking someone in the head bare knuckle out on the street, and they get 30 secs to steady themselves so he can crack them in the head again? There’s no doctor, there’s no medical staff out there, who’s gonna call the ambulance/police?? it’s illegal.. and not only that, at that time he’s LOOKING to go out and do it again.

Good for Kimbo, I’m glad he’s off the street and into MMA, but the fact of the matter is that what BJ Penn and Leben did were isolated incidents. This guy was out LOOKING for fights repeatedly, and he’s lucky as shit that he didn’t seriously injure/kill anyone in the process.

And on a side note, I’m sick of people bringing up this miscarriage when it’s already been legally and medically decided that Rampage had nothing to do with it. YOU don’t know this lady personally do you? Do you know if she drank/smoke, what her medical condition/diet all that was like? Cause you certainly act like you do. Just how in the hell do you know for a fact that Rampage had anything to do with that when doctors and courts say otherwise? Thats IGNORANT.

KIMBO! Post Something else You Posted this last week.

by DBG on Sep 3, 2008 1:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

rampage was not responsible for the miscarriage of that women, bj penn did beat up a cop, so did kimbo when he beat up sean gannon but that was completly diff i just wanted to throw that out there, leben did not go to jail for fighting outside the ring he went on a probation violation but i honestly dont know what he was probation for and garcia who is in the wec was found not guilty of all the drug charges against him. And also if some athletes mistakes killed sports i dont think their would be an nfl or an nba, in the nfl you have pacman responsible for getting people killed at night clubs, you have tank johnson with all of his illegal machine guns, you have ricky williams the pot head, you had michael irvin the coke head, you have the former face of the falcons and nfl michael vick locked up in a jail cell for dog fighting, in the nba you have the brawl a couple of years back you have refs betting on games you have players admitting to marijuana use in the off season there are athletes in every sport making mistakes and it is not the ufcs fault it is not the nfls fault it is the athletes own fault if is just that these organization are to stupid to let these guys go

Why do people expect so much of kimbo? You tube made him big, not his mma talent. He has alot to learn, and i do think he is taking his career in the right direction. Is he in the top 25 heavy weights?….. fuck that! Not even close. either way Love him or hate him, people will still watch him. that does not bother me. what does is the fact that he is doing commercials….. wtf! We thought that was so stupid that we came up with our own kimbo commercial. tell us what you think.
