'UFC Countdown' 88 to 'Breakthrough' on Spike TV

ufc 88 tickets
"UFC Countdown" to the major "Breakthrough" pay-per-view (PPV) event next weekend will debut on Spike TV on Wednesday, September 3 at 11 p.m. ET.

The hour-long special presentation will provide a glimpse into the preparation and training camps of the fighters set to headline the first-ever UFC show to hit Atlanta, Ga.

Here’s the official description:

"Watch UFC legend Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell in training while he prepares to face undefeated light heavyweight contender Rashad ‘Sugar’ Evans. See how he came back from the terrible hamstring injury that originally put this match on hold. Go behind-the-scenes with Rashad Evans as he gets ready to take on his most dangerous challenge in hopes of getting a title shot."

It’s also likely that the program will cover the participants in the co-featured bout of the evening between Rich Franklin and Matt Hammil. "Ace" will return to the light heavyweight class to determine whether or not he can make a run in the jam-packed 205-pound division.

UFC 88: "Breakthrough" is set to air live from the Philips Arena on pay-per-view (PPV) at 10 p.m. ET on August 9. MMAmania.com will provide all the coverage you can handle, including LIVE blow-by-blow UFC 88 results of the main card action on fight night and much more.

Come check us out.

For those who miss the "Countdown" premier it will re-air on Thursday, September 4 at 11 p.m. ET and Saturday, September 6 at 6 p.m. ET. To check out the complete UFC 88 fight card click here.

did you guys know that when the UFC was looking for a main event for UFC 85 in England (when everyone was getting hurt), couture told the UFC he was willing to fight Nogueira, if he would be released from his contract immediately after? F’in Dana could have given us Nog vs. Randy but he didnt! SCUMBAG!!!

Obviously the UFC did not like the idea, so I dont see the UFC letting him fight once vs. Lesnar and then walking away!

where did u hear this? Hadn’t they already signed Mir to fight for the belf.

Randy can’t just decides when where and who he fights, Randy is the SCUMBAG in my eyes.

How about I don’t. How about Dana White will never bring back Randy Couture for one fight and let him walk after that. Makes zero sense. Randy can say what he wants and other sites can claim to have secret sources. Logically, it makes no sense so it appears like it would be wasting even more time on a non-issue. Have had enough of that. Will wait for an official announcement … and I’m not holding my breath.

“will never?” come on mania, stranger things have happened! If lesner gives him a beatdown, not only will he earn a great deal of money and respect, he’ll crush the Fedor/Randy hype. I’m not saying that Lesner can beat Randy, but his track record with bigger wrestlers isn’t good, this could be the ultimate F U going away present for randy…Gift wrapped in the form of lesner from Dana?

YAWN, I’m tired and haven’t had anything posted tonight, I’ll still toss you guys yet another bone, since Randy “will never” come back
*By Dave Meltzer

A source close to the situation confirmed today that Couture is in
negotiations with UFC for a new three-fight deal which would end the nearly nine month legal battle between the two sides.

If the deal is closed, and the source said they are hoping to conclude negotiations and announce the match sometime within the next week, Couture would face Brock Lesnar on 11/15, most likely in Portland, Oregon. There are still minor problems involving tax issues that have kept finalizing the Rose Garden as the venue on that date, but UFC sources on Thursday
expected the deal would conclude.

Couture was said to be hoping that if everything went well, the next two fights could involve Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and/or Chuck Liddell. However, all the previous hang-ups involving Emelianenko and UFC remain.

It had been rumored heavily the past few days about a Couture vs. Lesnar fight in Portland, as a one-fight deal to settle the legal issues. But the talks involve a contract where both sides would expect Couture to legitimately retire as a UFC fighter.

smart move by Dana…if Randy would have beaten NOG they wouldn’t even have a interim champ

Randy KNEW Dana wouldn’t go for it thats why he offered in the first place so that he would look like he was trying to do the right thing…

"UFC Countdown" to the major "Breakthrough" pay-per-view (PPV) event next weekend will debut on Spike TV on Wednesday, September 6 at 11 p.m. ET.

Shouldn’t it be Sept. 3rd, Wednesday.

Won’t they cover Hendos fight? He’s the man who’s gonna end the Palhares hype.

Last time they did this with Chuck, he lost the title. It seems that almost every time they do this, the main person in the show loses…

I can’t wait to see the footage of videos of everyone doing their stuff in their own trainings and gameplans. I always find it bit fascinating to see how each differs from others in their preparations for the fight. It really gives some indications of how they grow exponentially as a fighter, gaining new skills or whatnot.
