Day of Reckoning: Andrei Arlovski vs Josh Barnett Affliction pic

Talk about a tease -- this among the best heavyweight bouts to be put together in a very long time. October 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, can't come soon enough. Thanks to Tracy Lee from CombatLifestyle.com once again for the great shots.

AA needs to stay away from Barnett’s power. I see AA winning by decision.

Barnett had some serious problems with Cro Cop who is mainly a striker… I put Arlovski on the same level as Cro Cop and maybe slightly above, I see Arlovski winning a decision also!

I’ve said it before, there isn’t another fight on this card that really intrigues me. I’ll watch it online that night. I’ve ordered EVERY ppv (including affliction) for over 3 years, I won’t be getting the Chuck/Rashad event either. No real upset likely!!!

I hear you on that one..I have purchased every UFC for the last 3 years at least…It has been a long time since I have not purchased a UFC..I dont think I will be getting Chuck/Rashad either..Or Spider/Cote..I will most likely go to the bar and watch..But then agian I said that about Franklin/Okami-UFC72, and a couple others, and still ended up getting them.lol.
I just feel I have been spending too much cash on MMa PPV’s lately..for I got Affliction aswell(UFC86 + banned = 85 bucks last month…I want to help Affliction pursue, but they really are not doing much with their 2nd card..Especially since they announced, then unannounced Fedor/AA..
Looks like you were right about Afflictions 2nd card not being that good, kevin..
I remember you posting that before Affliction Banned even happened..I hope Affliction will survive past this event, and come back strong with Aff#3..

thanks stagger, I hear you, my cable bill was close to 400 last month, and I’ve said I won’t get a ppv before and still get it.

I have free-to-air. Meaning I get free PPV for movies and fights and everything. Best investment I have ever made lol.

I am actually starting to really look forward to Affliction 2. iMO its a much better fight card then UFC 88
Arlovski/Barnett will be awesome and everyone seems to forget about the Big fight:
Nog vs. THe janitor….that is a HUGE fihgt between 2 often forgotten top LHW’s!

I think people are not giving Rashad the respect he deserves… granted I’m not a fan of his… but I think he can beat Chuck. Wandy stood right infront of Chuck and really looked slow. Rashad is goiing to move around and do the opposite of what Wandy did. Chuck hasn’t scored a ko in his last 3 fights and has slowed downed a bit. This makes for an upset… don’t get me wrong Chuck winning means more exciting fights for the fans but I have a feeling Chuck’s going away party should have ended with a win over Wandy.

In their first fight Barnett sustained a shoulder injury it really wasn’t anything really that CroCop did. In the second fight Cro Cop ot a descision win and in the third fight Barnett had to fight Cro Cop straight after going the distance in a tough fight with Nogueira. You really cannot use these fights with Cro Cop as an example of how well Arlovski will do against Barnett. Barnett is the toughest opponent that Arlovski has ever faced and since losing to Tim Sylvia twice, Arlovski has never really looked that impressive at all apart from his last fight. If it goes to the ground Barnett will submit him or pound him out Arlovski does have the striking advantage but Barnett definately has the power to knock out Arlovski and I would say Barnett has the better chin. Barnett has always been one of my favourite heavy weights, I also like Arlovski, but the reality is not only is Barnett one of the top four heeavywights in the world, he is at least top three when it comes to submissions. Arlovski has not done anything significant since losing to Sylvia to call a fight with him and Fedor a dream fight, I would rather see Barnett and Fedor. Watch Arolvski and Sylvia and then Fedor and Sylvia. I rest my case.

Send these guys through Fedor… execution style.

I think that the pitbull will take this one.. Barnett is too slow for AA..
by Ricky on Aug 29, 2008 10:44 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Tim Sylvia is extremely slow and he won 2 out of 3 vs Arlovski. There are way too many variables to discount a fighter as good as Barnett.

I defintiely will be watching this one, free of charge, of course. I am not gonna pay $40 or $50 for the same fighters fighting each other throughout Affliction I, II, and III.
The pit bull should knock the arrogance str8 out of Barnett and with a quickness

Barnett via Submission (toe hold) Rd 2.

maybe barnett can hurry up and date one of arlovskis old skanks because i want to hear aa ask barnett how his peepee taste. somebody should get KTFO for sure
by day1er on Aug 29, 2008 10:58 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yep, if AA shows up like his last fight, Barnett doesn’t stand a chance. AA is way to fast and NOBODY has taken AA down and even come close to submitting him. Cruz got AA down and he got KTFO while AA was sitting down(that’s BIG power). Werdum is better than Barnett and he didn’t do shit. AA has improved his OVER ALL game. His last 2 fights he was taking guys down and he is using high kicks and knees now.

it’s funny seeing couture with barnett since barnett juiced (ie cheated) when he beat him in the UFC. it’s a while now though so I guess they smoothed that over

Josh learned his lesson right?
Randy then went on to achieve many other things
so it didn’t hold him back too much.

I still remember when Dana held that speech when they had just purchased Pride, and he spoke about future dream matchups and he mentioned this one AA vs Joshi Barnetto :D Andrei is so explovise and will explode with the right hand to make it a 1st round TKO
by RoB on Aug 30, 2008 12:23 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don’t forsee this fight going to a decision.
AA by KO or Josh by Submission
Josh could KO or TKO AA though…
The fans win which is a good thing.

Would have loved AA cro cop in ufc aa by decision in this fight.

Very cool pic.
This should be a great fight, but the Affliction card overall is so-so. Fedor makes everything better.

I fancy Barnett to win this: he’s just a more complete fighter. If it goes to the ground, count on Barnett submitting Arlovski

I agree completely, AA hasn’t been in the cage/ring with many well rounded MMA fighters. Matyushenko and Verdum are definately the most versitile he has faced. He beat both, but analyze those fights .
Matyushenko lost by Ko in the first but AA decisioned Verdum. My point here is kind of lost on Vladimir, but he was like 40 while AA was coming into his own at the time of this fight. We all have to agree The Pitbull has a chance to win by Ko in every fight and that’s what happened here.
Whereas, we got to see Verdum confuse the Russian, this fight should have been a draw in my opinion.
Josh brings alot more to the table then either of these guys, his submission game and gameplanning are the top in the HW divion next to Fedor and Big Nog (who he has beaten and lost to by close decision). Barnett will most likely be fighting Fedor soon and we’ll see where that goes.
Bottom line, if Josh was doesn’t knocked out by a lucky shot, Josh will be streching AA’s body out across the ring. Barnett by whatever sub he sees available. He may break out Perry Saturn’s patented Rings of Saturn submission on the Pitbull. AA is great athlete, but so is Melvin Guillard. His athletic skill will only go so far against a tactician like Barnett.

Arlovski by 1st round KO! Barnett didn’t even look that good against Grandpa Rizzo until that lazy knockout happened, Arlovski however was lighting up Rothwell through all 3 rounds until that brutal knockout. AA KO RD 1.

Hell Yea hopefully Arlovski wins.

If it goes to the ground I definately do not see Barnet winning by sub, GP maybe but in no way sub. Arlovski Rules and I am behind him all the way even if no one else is. I know you might be worried Zack but u where worried about his last 2 fights and look what happened. Arlovski is the man he is going to get the job done quote me on that. Belfort Fan I know u are down with what I am saying even if you do have doubts as always.

barnett really brings it and has a better chin.
AA is a much better boxer yet barnett actually would be more likely to get the KO due to his power and AA’s so-so chin.
AA is no chump on the ground but this is Josh we are talking about.
I think it’ll be a great fight which could go for a while.
Awesome power and skill.
Barnett bops around like a lightweight – super cardio for a such a big boy and isn’t easy to hit – although aleks did, crocop did.
i think josh has a better chance against fedor as strikers have damn hard time nailing fedor but with barnett fedor may actually want to keep the distance a lot of the time but AA will get taken down by fedor eventually if not quickly
by patrickgamil on Aug 31, 2008 11:37 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
some say that AA looked better in his last affliction fight than barnett did in his…
not sure i’d agree
Arlovski looked great but on the other hand i doubt he would have been able carry on like that against barnett so it might be irrelevent. aplles and oranges.
