UFC Quick Quote: Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson vs Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua rematch still possible at UFC 92

"I’m back to training. I’m doing some Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu stuff, and thanks God everything is fine now. I’ll be back in December … They said that I might fight with Quinton Jackson, but nothing has been signed yet. They (UFC) called me and offered a fight with him and I accepted, but they didn’t say anything else more."
-- Mauricio "Shogun" Rua tells Tatame.com recently the Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is still the likely opponent for his next fight. We first passed along the possible rematch almost two weeks ago right here. Shogun -- who has not competed since UFC 76 in 2007 -- has been sidelined with a serious knee injury. If the match up is added to the New Year's Eve show on December 27 ... watch out -- this 205-pound fight would be insane.

Shouldnt Jackson be in prison by then? Or is he above the law? Im seriously losing faith in the legal system after this incident, and cant help to think about OJ Simpson and the other Jackson

I bet they will delay his trial for a year at least. Look at the pedafile R Kelly. It took what, 5 yers for him to go to trial and they even had the guy on tape.

According to court findings, it wasn’t R.Kelly on the tape. there was no birthmark on the back of the dude caught on the tape…

WHAT!! No W. SILVA and Rampage would get more PPV’s.. i mean Rampage wants to avenge his loss but i rather see Silva and Rampage…
If not them who is Silav fighting? that makes sence in Dec.. please not coleman!

How is that even related? OJ plans and kills his wife. MJ plans and assaults boys. Rampage has a breakdown – doesn’t know who or where (or what?) he is . . . don’t throw stones dude.

Im sure the people who’s cars he hit didn’t plan on getting side-swiped by a selfish idiot that day either.

not this again, I’ve been very vocal, he WILL settle with numerous people, their will be a confidential clause to keep numbers secret and he’ll have a trial for the multiple felonies. Hope he’s 100%, cause Rua is no joke. That being said, I hope shogun is 100%, because rampage wants his title back. Should be a geat fight. If rampage looks like he did against forrest, he’s dead!

Selfish idiot? Hopefully you nor someone close to you doesn’t suffer from any kind of mental breakdown or disease . . . don’t know that it’s ‘chosen’.

Yeah, I guess he didn’t chose to allegedly just drink water and energy drinks for days either. Sounds like a wise choice to me. Fuck him. I hope he gets the max. Great role model.

lol, i missed who got killed in that hit n run/seriously injured. I missed the part where Jackson planned out and murdered someone then took and disposed of the body. Who’d he kill again mexi?? What he did was f’d up but it’s not something to condemn the man for, and drunk drivers do worse. I was at a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim impact panal the other week and one the SPEAKERS was a drunk driver that blacked out and killed someone at the wheel. She’s walking around freely, telling her story for M.A.D.D. panals. You wanna jump on Jackson over a nose bleed.. why don’t you go lobby against something serious, thats maybe WORTH the attention.

If they offered the couple enough money for them NOT to press charges, then nothing will happen.
by Lycan on Aug 24, 2008 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think it was a civil case anyway.
I’d doubt they’d be able to win a criminal case against him, because it’s rather dubious that he even caused it.
They’re just after money.
And ya, guys this is a first offense.
He’ll probably lose his license and get probation.
Maybe a 60 day.
I don’t know why people think he should be doing serious jail time.

I do. There are a lot of people here that live in very simple worlds. People love to make judgement calls on something they know nothing about. It boggles me.

Guys do you all know how the legal system works? You get in some trouble and receive big felony charges….they see your wallet is full(not to mention Jackson is a celeb of sorts), knock it down to a misdemeanor, complete your BS probation and wala…your a free man!
Other celebs have been caught dealing drugs or using drugs while driving and smashing other peoples’s cars….(see Lindsay Lohan)…Rampage will be fine!!!
by Chadx23 on Aug 25, 2008 9:38 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
lohan is a celebrity, and has money, and did a day. Rampage is NOT a celeb (except to us), has a net worth of maybe 2 million (not alot) and is facing multiple felonies. I’m not saying he’ll do a lot of time, but here in CA (except OJ, but the glove didn’t fit), the new trend is locking celebs up. Keifer Sutherland got like 60 days for DUI!

Dude all he did was drive erractically & side swipe a couple of cars for two blocks,,, sure it was a douchebag move ,,, but jail time.. you make it sound like he pulled an OJ …

i wish they would make up their minds. is it going to be rampage/rua or rampage/wandi. personally i prefer wandi because i miss seeing him in the cage getting it on. has wandi not ever been in an exciting fight? ive read rumors that if chuck wins against rashad, he could face a.silva in dec instead of forrest. that would leave the winner of machida/siva to fight forrest for the title, that would be an ideal situation foe myself as a fan. a.silva vs liddell would be a dream fight. but you know how the internet rumors are.
by b.w. on Aug 24, 2008 2:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i think if chuck wins against evans, he will get a title shot next fight. i want to see lyoto vs wandi, lets see how technical machida can be when he is getting steam rolled by wandi. it would be nice to see a wandi vs chuck title fight. but im a forrest fan. im scared that as soon as people start picking forest as the favourite, he will lose. hes a great fighter, he makes good fighter fight average.

IMO Shogun and Rampage are the 2 best light heavyweights in the world! This is a dream fight, but I would hate to see 1 of these guys loose especially at this point in their careers.
I just want to see one of these 2 fight Forrest again!

Wooooooooo! If they’re both on fire this could be one of the best fights of the year!!
Too tough to pick a winner at this stage but Rampage has definately imroved a lot since they last fought and Im sure Shogun has as well. Rampage got battered in their last fight. Question is, how much has shogun devekloped this last year considering all his knee surgery and lack of hard training.
I really want shogun to come back with a bang but I also wanna see rampage get a rematch with forrest too. Ahhhh well you gotta love this match up either way.
by Ca$z on Aug 24, 2008 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It is tough to pick a winner in this one, both of these guys have a lot of questions that only a fight will answer. I gotta’ go with Jackson on this one, even if there’s some mental issues about him. Forrest never brought the fight to Jackson like he did with Shogun. Jackson is definitely the more dangerous between the 2.

make this match for the Portland Oregon show! Ireally hope Florian is not the headliner
by BLOodyMEss on Aug 24, 2008 3:01 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That would be a crazy fight… but i think Rampage would win, simply because shogun has that knee injury and no matter what he’ll never be 100% like the old shogun of pride… and rampage ain’t the same fighter as pride time.

Will Rampage bring his truck?
Even with Rua’s past injury I don’t think Rampage will win this fight. How fast can some rebound from “extreme dehydration and poor diet” to be in fighting shape again? I don’t see the dude being mentally ready to fight this soon, but I’m not an expert and I’m not Rampage. I will pull for Rampage in this fight!!

a little premature to talk about this fight…lets be all over it after the trial….I would like to see Amir Sadollah fight

I cannot see Rampage losing this fight for some reason.
If he goes through all this breakdown crap and then comes back and just loses it would be somewhat anti-climatic in his insane life.
I think he will win, and then probably go to jail, then come back and become the champ again.
Jail has a way of straightening people out, and I think Rampage will be a better fighter in the long run.

i seem 2 detect some racial tones in some of the posts! i can’t help to think if this was a white guy it would be a whole different story! he’s just a regular guy that fucked up! but i’m sure some or most people posting on these sites are just “PERFECT”!!?? shit happens thats life get over it. at some point in your life tragic things happen & then the biased view will do a 180!! GUARANTEED !!!

i hope not. i’d like to think that it doesnt have anything to do with race, but who knows? it would be a little naive for me to think that there are’nt a few people who think of race 1rst, but i think most of the regulars on this site like fighters according to their fighting ability and personality, not race, nationality or relegion?.

my picks for 205 match-ups:
Chuck vs forest
wandy vs jackson
lyoto vs anderson silva
Hendereon vs franklin ( 205 or 185 )
brandon vera vs keith jardine ( is that already booked!?? )
houstan Alexander vs james irvin REMATCH
not a big chuck fan but he WILL be champ again

IMO in all honesty, I don’t want to see this fight yet. I want to see this fight when Shogun is 100% Healthy and has a win underneath his belt in the UFC. I think Shogun is going to have a lot of rust when he comes back to fight, and him fighting Rampage right now might not make the best fight for both of these guys. I say give Shogun Rua a match like James Lee when he comes back, Houston Alexander/Eric Schafer or winner or Mark Coleman. Something like that so Shogun can get a boost in populairity and a boots in confidence.
Wanderlei vs. Rampage III is something that needs to be in the works more considering Wanderlei defeated Keith Jardine in Pride fashion, and Rampage just lost to the new LHW champ. That would make for an explosive fight that would get people rushing to the tv’s to BUY this PPV. I just sont think Shogun has that common US name here in America as Wanderlei.

2 losses in a row would hurt both fighters, but i agree, it would probably hurt rua worse since he is not nearly as well known as rampage and you bringing up “cage” rust really stands out. it will be what? a year since he fought forrest when this fight might happen. a little longer i think. thats alot of time off if rampage is in top form, wich is also in question. i wonder sometimes if shogun isnt just messing with people because he has switched opponents like 3 times in the last month or so from coleman to rampage, and its always coming straight from him so who knows?
by b.w. on Aug 24, 2008 9:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If Rua loses 2 straight then you were hear most fans and columnist state “Another busted Pride fight who can’t make the jump into the UFC.”
Which I find to be unfair towards Shogun because I dont think Shogun will be 100% for a ny fight for another year. Which is a shame because if Shogun could stay 100% healthy bar none he is the best 205 pounder in the league.

shoguns a monster and doesnt need any more time off… get him in there with the best, thats where he belongs! no ones really gonna respect him if he goes and beats up cans anyways so get him a good match up like this one! shogun ko – knee

the dude who got me into mma’s favorite fighter was shogun. evvvverrrybody wanted to copy his fighting style with his ax kicks, head stomps, and flying kick on a downed opponent. his 1 sided beatdown against arono was one of my favorites of all time. But then again, Page did Arona wrong with that donkey kong ko slam too. They’re both coming off “injurys”(lol). The only thing that kind of make me wonder about their first fight is when page was yapping about PRIDE being fixed. I probably won’t buy tickets or drive to portland if this was the main event. the card still looks pretty weak.

by markg on Aug 24, 2008 7:16 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m just going to be honest here. I wish they’d lob Shogun a sure thing for his first fight back. Not someone like Page. He hasn’t proven himself in the cage yet, hasn’t been back to hard training for a while, nursing injuries that probably aren’t completely 100%, and I just love the guys’ style. Even a little more than Wandi’s. Come to think of it, give him Jardine.
by dave on Aug 24, 2008 10:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Wow, no excuses I hope Rampage takes this one so Wanderlei will be higher up in the rankings than shogun like he deserves to be after that lackluster BS loss to Forest. no disrespect to Forest.
Wanderlei would knock Shogun out quick like he did Jardine. by the way they need to give Jardine a gimme if anything I mean he is the one who truly needs and deserves it. maybe we all including me need to get off shoguns nuts and admit he is not the best in the division by far.
by Wanderlei Fan on Aug 24, 2008 11:35 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
IF shogun comes back with no injuries healed 100% which is not all that likely but possible then yes shogun is top 2 in that divsion and will destroy everyone.(Wandi excluded)
by Khaos_Warrior on Aug 25, 2008 12:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s impossible to say what would happen between Wandi and Shogun, because they’ll never fight they’re almost like brothers and won’t fight eachother. The lackluster fight against Forrest might have been due to poor training because of knee, or might have been because he was roiding in Pride, or might be because of the cage. Anyway about it, we there are a lot of unanswered questions about Shogun, throwing him up against Rampage who is proven and comfortable in the ring isn’t exactly win win. I’d be surprised if this is true. The potential to build this fight up a little bit and give Shogun and Page two fights first would bring some serious hype to this fight.
by dave on Aug 25, 2008 1:06 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yea ok. I agree with that but come on Wandi deserves to be above him in the rankings. Hands down no excuses I give that one to Forest, but one no one seems to want to mention is Jardine He beat Forest decisively so as far as I am concerned we should be watching Page v. Wandi 3 and Jardine v. Shogun one.
