Drew Fickett vs. Jay Hieron Affliction fight likely October 11

It appears Drew Fickett may have finally been able to move ahead and put his personal problems behind him.
Sherdog.com has been able to confirm that former International Fight League welterweight champion Jay Hieron (15-4) has verbally accepted an offer to fight "The Master" on October 11 at Affliction: "Day of Reckoning".
Fickett (35-6) has competed as recently as August 8, submitting Joe Manzello at Silver Crown Fights (SCF) in round one. He had aligned himself with EliteXC earlier this year, but his much ballyhooed bout with Jake Shields never materialized to due injuries and scheduling conflicts on both sides.
From there, Fickett was plagued with personal problems including a messy contract dispute with Canada’s Maximum Fighting Championship. After eventually parting ways with EliteXC, Fickett fought twice for Rage in the Cage, going 1-1 before his most recent match at SCF.
Now he has his stiffest test in quite some time against the venerable Hieron.
The former IFL warrior is coming off a first round drubbing of Mark Miller at IFL: 'New Jersey' last April. When the troubled company went belly-up shortly thereafter, Hieron settled on a three-fight contract with Affliction after being courted by the UFC, Elite XC and Strikeforce.
Affliction "Day of Reckoning" takes place on October 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring the main event of Josh "The Babyface Assassin" Barnett (23-5) vs. Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski (13-5).

I’ll be honest, I really wanted to see AA vs. Fedor. I’m probably not going to be getting this one. I could change my mind if they get a few more good fights, but the first show was terrible (to the point I actually fell asleep during Lindland fight), and I can’t imagine the production being any better! I really think they need Fedor to fight on every card to get me to buy, and even then, the reusing of the same fighters just won’t work. It’s too bad, with elite’s outlook not looking good, this means less free shows for us. Lets face it competition is the only way to get the UFC to give free shows or sign a tv deal. As long as the ufc picks up the good free agents (diaz, sheilds, resign aa and maybe fedor), I’ll keep paying for 12-15 UFC events a year and be happy…I guess!

Let’s see how well Jay does outside of the IFL! Can he compete with top shelf competition?

Since when is Drew Fickett top shelf competition? And we already saw how Jay would do when he got destroyed by GSP.

Hm,, look at Drew Ficketts record, pretty top notch. Incredible submission skills. Also your Jay Hieron comment is stupid, that was at UFC 46, that was 4 years ago when we say Jay fight in the UFC. A fighter can rebuild and get better over 4 years, that is like saing “Look how Matt Hughes defeated GSP at UFC 50.” “We already saw what Patrick Cote can do when he lost to Travis Lutter.”
Stupid statement.
IMO drew Fickett via round 1 submission.

This may not be the best idea for Affliction! As much as I dislike him, Ficket is a very skilled and experienced mma fighter, THis should make for a solid match up, that is if DRew even SHOWS UP? this guy has been F’in organizations over all year by not honoring his commitments. Heiron is much improved since getting kNocked out by GSP years ago. I am actually curious to see how he would do against Ficket, I just dont count on Ficket Showing up!

Whatever man, ever though you think it’s a stupid comment, Drew Fickett is not top notch, he’s an overrated drunk. My assesment of Jay may have been a little off though, I’ll give you that.

Read the post again, Haze, I was referring to him having left the IFL where he wasn’t exactly going against top-level fighters. I didn’t even say Drew Ficket’s name.

Drew Fickett is an awesome fighter, he tries to book too many fights though and then tires himself out. I like him as a fighter and its cool that he doesn’t seem to fight for one org. I’m not too worried about the Elite deal because they are not much of a promotion IMO.

I would never pay not even ten dollars I bet if. Fedor fought in the cage he wouldn’t do so good yes he would bet randy in the ring but not in a cage when I watch mma in a ring there always boring then when they fight in a cage
