Edwin Dewees: Steroids result in 12-month suspension and fine

From California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) Acting Assistant Executive Officer Bill Douglas:
"Edwin Dewees, who last competed on the Roy Englebrecht Promotions event sponsored by Affliction on July 19 in Anaheim, has tested positive for Nandrolone. His test level was finalized at 499 ng/mL. Independent tests were conducted by Quest Diagnostics for the "A" Sample and Laboratoire De Controle Du Dopage for the "B" Sample. He has been suspended for one year retroactive to the conclusion of the bout and fined $2,500."
Dewees -- a UFC veteran and participant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 4 -- was stopped by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via first round technical knockout at Affliction: "Banned" last month. It marked the fifth loss in the last six fights for "Babyface." Nandrolone is the same banned substance that was detected in the system of Sean Sherk after his win in California over Hermes Franca at UFC 73: "Stacked" last year -- a finding he continues to dispute to this very day.

I’m not surprised considering he started to train at the Lion’s Den……

Sherk’s level was not even comparable to the level they are saying Dewees tested at. I can see Sherk’s argument for why his levels were higher than what is considered normal, but Dewees could take all the slightly tainted supplements in the world and not reach that level.

I heard Ken Pavia, dewees Agent gave this stuff to him. any truth in that? hes had a history of dirty fighters. i cant see the lions den having a role in this.

Desperate times calls for desperate measures.. and now he’s even screwed more than losing 5 out of 6.. Ouch

I think its very important that you continually remind me that Sherk failed his test and denies taking the substance, it helps me better understand this article now wow thanks!

With Antonio failing his test as well this speaks of the Sherk Franca fight more. Both fighters failed their test and we will see what excuses they make for it.

My mistake I’m thinking Silva instead of Nogueria

thats why UFC drops these guys at the smallest sign of problems…they are prone to do dumb things like this.

I think this guy needs the "Do you want to be a f*#!ing fighter speech real bad. If he doesn’t smarten up with the time off he’s done if he isn’t already.

He did look like he retained some water in that fight. Who said steroids make you smart?
by Calgary MLS on Aug 21, 2008 2:05 PM EDT reply actions
Use steroids and lose. What a fucking roundmouth.

You gotta be really dumb to actually get caught doing them.
But not surprised that he was, I’d be more surprised to see what fighters dont use them. Getting caught though is amateur.
I guess he didn’t learn how to cycle in high school wrestling.

Seriously, what did money bags dewees have to lose. He got paid how much? His suspension fine was how much? For a bottom tier fighter, he came out on top and it’s not like he’s important enough to the MMA scene that everyone would be up in arms. Now Bigfoot that’s a different case.

Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid that may be present naturally in the human body, albeit in minute quantities of less than 0.4 ng/ml. Nandrolone is most commonly sold commercially as its decanoate ester (Deca-Durabolin) and less commonly as a phenylpropionate ester (Durabolin). Nandrolone decanoate is used in the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women (though now not recommended) at a dose of 50 mg every three weeks.
Treatment of postmenopausal women…Edwin you have some explaining to do.
