Lame. I talked my friends into getting the first one. I won’t be making that same mistake.

Could you get any less relavent to music currently than Ozzy? Oh yeah, Megadeath.

That was an instant classic! That phrase will be around for a while!

This is becoming more and more of a joke. I wish the UFC would have treated Arlovski better before his departure. :(
by Sean_M on Aug 21, 2008 4:03 PM EDT reply actions
Are you guys kidding? Arlovski/Barnett is a dream match that a lot of people including myself has been waiting to see. We could also see Fedor/Arlovski, Barnett/Sylvia, Big Country/Sylvia, etc. The HW matchups are just mind boggling at this point.
by bostonmmajunkie on Aug 21, 2008 4:13 PM EDT reply actions
I’ll agree with you. I can’t wait for the Barnett/Arlovski. I couldn’t name a better matchup in the UFC.
by Kimura by Fedor on Aug 21, 2008 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions
bostonmmajunnkie, I agree about those HW fights! But thats it, thats all they have. 1 good fight per PPV is not worth it!
by JV on Aug 21, 2008 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions
JV, are you going to buy this one? This event doesn’t seem to have the same buzz as the last event. 1 HW fight is not worth my money. I don’t care for Barnett either. This event will be a failure for sure.
by BNF on Aug 21, 2008 4:47 PM EDT up reply actions
U guys are Nuts! 1 fight only? So what do u call Nogueira vs. The Janitor? THats a really solid LHW match up!
Affliction is giving us the opportunity to see Many DReam match ups that the UFC would never be able to pull off! I for one will sit back and appreciate it, instead of Knocking them. As an upstart company in its sercond event, they are way above the curve, so what do u expect? whats their to complain about? Its their second show, the product will IMPROVE, just give it a chance!

Is it nuts to choose UFC 90 over this event. That is the situation I am presented with. UFC is like the hot chick and this event is the fat ugly friend. Most of the time I am willing to take 1 for the team, but not this time. They will not have time to “improve” because this event will fail worse than the last one. They probably got some PPV buys last time because of curious fans. Most of those people will not return since Fedor is not on the card. There are no belts at stake. People will not buy this card based off 1 fight because most people don’t know or care about Nogueria vs. The Janitor.
by BNF on Aug 21, 2008 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions
HELL NO!!! Im not buying this event BNF! I only bought the first because of what you said (curiousity) And Im not a fan of big NOG so I could care less about little NOG. “hot chick vs fat chick and taking 1 for the team” that shit has me laughing my a$$ off!!!!

I am not talking about “MOST People”, I am talking about a knowledgeable mma fan such as yourself.
Can u honestly say that these fights dont appeal to you?
i know that they arent too appealing to the casual fan, but to us, these fights should be appealing.
by john on Aug 21, 2008 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions
Of course I would like to see these fights. The question is should I spend my hard earned money to see them. The answer to that question is no, for me.
You seem to think it is us bashing Affliction. That is not the case. I am sure it will be a decent night of MMA, but decent doesn’t get me to write checks. So if a big time MMA fan like myself is not going to buy it no one will. It sucks, but it is the truth.
by BNF on Aug 21, 2008 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions
JV, I remember you said you weren’t going to buy the last one, but you did anyways. I don’t like Barnett at all, so the next morning web search will be good enough for me. My MMA fix on the big screen will be supplied by 89 & 90.
by BNF on Aug 21, 2008 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Thats what I mean also BNF. john, I would have paid for Arlovski/Fedor, but besides that I dont care for Barnett or little Nog. Then I buy everything in HD so its even more money! F*ck that, an extra 10 dollars is almost another 12pack!
by JV on Aug 21, 2008 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions
BNF: I wasnt saying to buy it, I was talking about you watching it! I cant tell anyone what they should and shouldnt purchase because I dont know peoples finances. I thought you were saying that you werent going to watch the fights…..and I couldnt believe that.
Weather you pay for it, or watch it live on Channelsurfing or catch it the next day on the internet, as LONG AS YOU WATCH IT, its Kool wit me!
by john on Aug 21, 2008 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions
BNF, I know I was like F that Im not buying this sh*t. But as it started to get closer and closer I was like F it, I didnt want to miss something. But after seeing it, I can promise you it wont happen again! A ring for MMA sucks, a mini concert with old rockers is not my kind of music. Maybe, just maybe, Arlovski/Fedor can get my money, MAYBE!
by JV on Aug 21, 2008 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Well if you put it that way john, then yes Ill watch the fights, I just wont pay for them!
by JV on Aug 21, 2008 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions
LOL JV, I think in terms of 12 packs too. So by watching Affliction on the computer I can buy 4-5 more 12 packs depending if I buy Coors or Corona… All I can say is NICE.
I will probably buy the “fairwell” show with AA and Fedor as the main event, with special musical guest SKID ROW! LOL!
by BNF on Aug 21, 2008 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Do you have a source for that BNF? skid Row is worth the $40.00 alone. Haha
by James S on Aug 21, 2008 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions
Especially if Sebastian is drunk, falls off the stage and continues with blood pouring all over his face. Now that is worth $40.

YEEEEAHHH im excited! i loved afflictions first card and i think this one will be just as good…
by brendan on Aug 21, 2008 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions
I think this one is just as bad as the one for the first PPV, if not worse. I may get the PPV depending on how the rest of the card pans out.

How’s strikeforce doing financially?.. anyone hear anything lately?

MANIA, since you have been MMAmania for quite some time now, do you think that it is soon time to update the top navigation to say “MMA Schedule” and at the very least have the event of the major organizations listed, or those events that are available on PPV or on television. For example, UFC, WEC, ProElite (EliteXC and ShoXC), Affliction, DREAM, and HDnet’s Friday Night Fights when they cover live MMA such as Strikeforce, Adrenaline, MFC…
I understand that it could get quite cumbersome but it would be great to have the ultimate MMA schedule one click away. Then at top of the screen there can be links to view just individual promotion’s events, with the different organization names going across the top of the screen as navigation.
by ViolentMike on Aug 21, 2008 4:26 PM EDT reply actions
Mania really neglects that part of the site. He doesn’t even have UFC 90 up there yet. Why don’t you ask Mania for a job? That would be an awesome addition to this site. There are so many fights and changes due to injuries, put that together with the number of companies, I get a headache trying to remember it all. 1 click to have it all would be sweet.

How the hell can Ozzy sing anymore?
Dude can barely talk.
The main event is good but I don’t know what the lineup is looking like.
I don’t mind the concerts because you need an intermission for beer and pizza you know? IT was nice last time cause I just went to the Spike TV fight while concert was on, saw the SIlva-Irvin fight then saw the Fedor fight a bit later. Worked out really well.
by DirtyML on Aug 21, 2008 4:29 PM EDT reply actions
If someone were to play of Kirk Douglas and Ozzy talking I bet you couldn’t guess which one was which.
by the_mexicutioner on Aug 21, 2008 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions
the main event is going to be good.. but Affliction REALLY needs to do two things in order to really compete against UFC and other organizations.. 1 have more fighters in different weight classes.. just having HW won’t cut it.. they need to have it stacked through all the divisions.. i know its their second event, but i don’t see any improvment in the other weight classes… and 2 PLZ GOD don’t let them have mega death or that garbage rock heavy metal music again.. last time it was like a concert/mma event…. thats pathetic and atleast if your gonna have ppl playing garbage music atleast have somoene better than mega death wow they sucked
by ricky on Aug 21, 2008 4:51 PM EDT reply actions
Intermission lol yeah guess that does work well if the pizza guy arrives just at the right time! Well the card should be real good again doubt that it will be as good but im damn sure it will be close and once again i will be ordering it.
by Khaos_Warrior on Aug 21, 2008 4:54 PM EDT reply actions
opps lol mind mustve blanked out was supposed to say ‘as good as the first event’
Yeah the only thing that sucked besides the megadeath shit the first time was the ring its not the same as like Dreams ring these ropes they had dont seem to work to well.

I see Affliction are persisting with having a rock band play… oh well.
Josh Barnett FTW

I like Affliction, but I’d like it more in a cage! Where is the cage!Wish we could put the Affliction fighters in the UFC.

I don’t disagree with those who say that they are looking forward to this event, but at the same time I really can’t see myself buying it. For starters I don’t really like MMA in a ring. Not that it’s unacceptable it’s just a personal preferance. Also, from what I heard and saw from the first event was that it was rather lacking in perduction quality and really struggled to keep fans dazzled. All in all it’s really about the fights and affliction has a solid base of fighters, but I can’t see myself paying to see a show that may underwealm me like this one very well could when I’m already paying for UFC events. More MMA is always good, but I’m not going to pay an extra $45 a month.
by DB on Aug 21, 2008 9:19 PM EDT reply actions
If Affliction was in a cage, I’d pay to see it. However, being in a ring, there is no way unless they put together the best card ever. Even then… I don’t know. Everytime a fight is stopped because its gone over into the ropes, and is moved back to the center of the ring… it enrages me. I think the equivalent in football would be if the offense ran out of bounds, the play wouldn’t be over… the offensive player who ran out of bounds would move to the center of the field, and the defensive player who chased him out would be placed there as well… and the play would resume.
