Thats what I’m talking about Mania! Some UFC 88 coverage!

AS most of you know by now, i am betting Palhares with the upset special. Another submission of the night in the books!

by john on Aug 20, 2008 7:58 PM EDT reply actions

He definatley has a shot.

by DB on Aug 20, 2008 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

John, how much you betting, with what odds?

by Kimura by Fedor on Aug 20, 2008 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah John, what are the odds on this? I’m pretty sure Dangerous Dan has the betting odds to his favor. I’m also sure you’re bettin’ all your money on the upset.

But as an MMA sage, I guess you should go with my accurate pick w/c is Hendo. I just don’t see Palhares outmuscling Hendo for the submission. Sorry folks, but if you wanna win some, then follow my advice.

by TheNegation on Aug 20, 2008 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions

If that is serious training for Hendo then this dude is in for a long night. There was nothing in that clip that impressed me. Was he helping his little brother train??? I will call it right now, Hendo with a huge over hand right to the temple then some GnP, followed by Goldberg, “ITS ALL OVER, ITS ALL OVER!!!”

by BNF on Aug 20, 2008 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Is this a real training video? to be honest i thought this was on of those videos to get to know the kid you are sending 25 cents a day…..im glad i know what the hell he does during the day…now i want to see how “hard” he is training for hendo. he wont submit him. it takes a retarded amazing jits game (Silva n’ noguira) to submit hendo…he is too good of a grappler with an extensive resume in knowing how to fight submission specialist.

by santiago69us on Aug 21, 2008 12:33 AM EDT up reply actions

lol… 25 cents a day

by THORAZINE on Aug 21, 2008 2:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Negation: Its easy to pick the favorites! No risk = no reward. Hendo is one of my favorite fighter and I am fully aware of what he is capable of. I just think Rusimar is going to submit him. Rusimar is an underdog, and I am willing to wager $100 on him, to possibly win at least 250.

Also, Hendo tends to fight down to the level of his competition. I think he is going to get caught in a choke or one of his crazy Leg Locks!

Oh yeah, for those that wanted to know where I am going to start my training in Philly. Here’s the website:
Balance studios:
www.teambalance.com

The school is run by two brothers Phil and Rick Migliarese. When Royce, Royler and Helio decided to start spreading Jits in America. One of the 1st places they came was Philly and they met these 2 young Italian brothers (that I have known my entire life) Phil and Rick, who were kids at the time. THe gracies took them under the wing and in return the brothers introduced them to Philly. THis was right after the beginning of the UFC (the barbaric days). The gracies held an open challenge in Philly where they offered anyone $100,000 if they could beat a gracie. All kids of guys were testing them every week.

Anyway, to learn more about these brothers and their remarkable story, Phil was featured on 1 of last years issues of MMA WorldWide (issue #4). On the Cover you will see: Phil Migliarese on the right, big NOg in the middle, and Renzo Gracie on the right.

John, where are you finding Rousimar around +250. I see him around +160 on my sites.

And also as you all know, Hendo is my favorite MW and LHW, but I have been very hesitant to be hyping him up before this fight. I have been very nervous with Palhares’s BJJ game. However, I have come to the conclusion that he is not going to be able to get Dan down in order to submit him. The fight will start standing and Hendo will keep it that way and KO this MMA novice. If the fight does somenow go 3 rounds, I don’t see how Rousmar can win a decision when comparing his style to Dan’s. Its time for a solo bet on Dan and also a parlay with Chuck and Rich. I am liking the favorites more and more in these fights and I think that all the late money will be coming in on the favorites as well. Which means that if you plan on betting the favorites, now is the time to do it!

I checked the link John.. Hey I’ll be there soon.. to train..maybe like for a weekend.. or something. Your at the right spot.

John, do the yoga. I wish my gym had a yoga program to go along w/ bjj.

by EarthFirst! on Aug 21, 2008 11:17 AM EDT up reply actions

I havent checked any opf the odds yet, I was just guessing.

I am very confident about gambling on this event. I think that there are some easy picks if you dont let the odds scare you away and I plan on winning a nice amount on 2 or 3 fights which leaves me the luxory of being able to throw a little change on some long shot dogs.

My Question for all of you: Why is this Novice, Nobody only a +160 Underdog to the Famous, and amazing veteran mma fighter, Dan Henderson? Odds dont seem right to me at all, and I am going with the dog!

by john on Aug 21, 2008 12:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Phil, whenever you want to come down let me know. I knew the instructors since we were both kids. We went to the same elementary school. He was just 2 grades older and we were from the same hood. Great dudes, they always welcome visitors.

EarthLink: I know man, I was very excited about the Yoga class. I have wanted to do it for a long time because it will help me in other things like Basketball and help stay injury free but I never wanted to take it at my University with all the Hot Chicks but I dont want to be seen there and cant take it serious with Hot girls bending over in front of me. So t his is the perfect opportunity to take Yoga, and I hate to say it, I really look forward to it. I know that it helps BJJ tremendously but its actually very useful for other things as well.

he has no shot. He better start working his wrestling. and training against better guys than that.

agreed

by McArthur on Aug 20, 2008 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s what I was sayin’ Mike! You are definitely right on this one. A puny man like Palhares has no shot at defeating Hendo and he has no business fighting him in the first place. It should be HEndo Vs Franklin 1st of all. And second, shouldn’t he be climbing up the UFC ladder first before takin’ a crack at someone like Hendo?

by TheNegation on Aug 20, 2008 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly! It should be Hendo vs. Franklin. Palhares doesn’t deserve to be in the ring with Hendo, yet. It’s a no-lose situation for him and a no-win situation for Hendo… and Franklin.

by UFCAddict on Aug 20, 2008 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions

what do u know about Palhares? Really, what do u know? Exactly when have you ever seen him fight (besides his last UFC fight) to say that he has no business fighting Hendo?

by john on Aug 21, 2008 8:07 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah i dont think palhares wil have a chance at winning. but im not going as far as saying he doesnt deserve to be in there with hendo…same with cote/silva…i dont think cote will win, but you wont here me saying he doesnt deserve to be in there…right now…not very many MW are asking to fight with silva..cote is one of the few that has the metal pair to ask for him.

by santiago69us on Aug 21, 2008 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions

Comparing thier “MMA Resumes”, Palhares can’t even hold Dan’s jock!

by ViolentMike on Aug 21, 2008 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions

But in the BJJ world, Palhares is one of very few.

by ViolentMike on Aug 21, 2008 10:49 AM EDT up reply actions

Comparing “MMA resumes”, Maia should not have beaten J-mac and Ed Herman either, but he Finished both of them. Som,e Jits guys transition better to mma than others and I think Toquino is READY to make an impact.

I think Palhares is going to shock a lot of you. Not guaranteeing that he will win, but I give him a much better shot than most of you. I like to compare him to Maia. I wouldnt say he is quite as great as Maia in BjJ because Maia is AMAZING, but Palhares is up there for sure. Maia and Palhares have very similar mma resumes and at this point in time, I actually think Toquino has a more well rounded mma game. I think the cage is perfect for this guy.

Win or Loose, I cant say for sure, What I can tell you is that he will be a force in the UFC middleweight division.
I give him about a 40% chance of winning this fight and I am willing to bet a humble amount on his chances. I hate to go against Hendo who I am a big fan of, but I just have a feeling!

by john on Aug 21, 2008 12:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn’t say he had no business fighting Hendo. In fact, he has a chance at submitting him. I simply gave my opinion that he didn’t deserve to be given a shot at Hendo at this point in time of his career because it is a no-win situation for Hendo and a no-lose situation for Palhares. Anytime this is the case… then I come to the conclusion that it is not deserved… yet.

Hopefully, your reading comprehension will improve as you progress through college.

by UFCAddict on Aug 22, 2008 1:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Great find. I’m picking Palhares to beat Henderson.

by khemtawe on Aug 20, 2008 8:25 PM EDT reply actions

There is a minority of people saying the same thing. I need to check out his fights. Send me some links if anyone can. I’m always about betting on the underdog and making real cheese. If this guy is worth it, I’ll be placing a bet for Palhares even though Hendo the sh%t.

by Kimura by Fedor on Aug 20, 2008 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Look’em up on your tube of web video, there’s a bunch there. Guy’s a beast.

by ARodOfIron on Aug 20, 2008 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I would some what compare Rusimar to Maia (kind of). THey are both submission grapplers making a transition into MMA. Maia’s jits is probably a little better. Rusimar is stronger and has better wrestling and I would also say he has a litle better striking.

If you guys would give maia a chance against Hendo, then Palhares has a shot as well.

Sorry guys…

by shawnizzle on Aug 21, 2008 1:17 AM EDT reply actions

Guys, this was his soft rolling session where he jsut worked some techniques (also we did not get to see him train with more people). We didn’t see him train strength or MT or Wrestling. If this ahd been an american production we would have seen like a huge training montage with him seemingly doing everything at once á la UFC production.

His Jitz is proven world class (he has submitted many bjj blackbelts) and his strength is solid. Go watch some of his fights on youtube and stop disrespecting him.

by WAND on Aug 21, 2008 6:48 AM EDT reply actions

I agree WAND! Good post. Just because many of you have only seen him fight once, that doesnt mean he isnt the real deal.
I have seen 5 or 6 of his fights and he is just a strong submission MACHINE!

phil, Linx or any of my other Brazilian brothers: What does Toquino mean?

by john on Aug 21, 2008 9:52 AM EDT up reply actions

toquinho is like a little piece of something. for example, if you make a pyramid out of sand and the very small part of the top is ‘toquinho’.

Toquinho is a little piece of wood

by InTheGuard.tv on Aug 21, 2008 10:49 AM EDT up reply actions

InTheGuard is right, it’s more of a small piece of wood, from toco (which is wood). where is my head today lol, but it’s used in this case for a short person.

damn, Palhares is broke… How much is he getting from the UFC and where is the money he’s getting going to? Something tells me big nog was right about quitting BTT…

by linx on Aug 21, 2008 7:23 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah..he needs an elevator to be leaving on the 7th floor.. 3rd Floor is my cut.. Linx I see what your saying and agree.. maybe cause he just got to the UFC..that the $$ upgrade was n’t fully taking it’s affect.. but my Dude.. is broke.. That crib looked tine.. No ELEVATOR!! Ah that would suck.. working out is one thing..trying to get home is another.. Did yousee when he slammed the shit out his training partner at 8:36mins of the vid.. He’s boy was tight. To me he reminds me of a 185lb Ricardo Arona.. The Toquinho is a beast.. I’m still not sure..if he will beat Dan Henderson.. that is a big order.. I will of course be rooting for him.. but style wise.. His game plays into Hendersons.. and if Henderson catches him on the chin..with one of the crazy over hand rights.. yeah..I don’t know.. If Palhares wins it would be a hug feather in his cap.

by PhilQNY on Aug 21, 2008 9:09 AM EDT up reply actions

well, if they are putting him ahead of the nog’s and arona technically wise, I definitely feel he’s got more of a chance than I thought, since hendo got submitted by both big nog and lil nog.

by linx on Aug 21, 2008 10:04 AM EDT up reply actions

You guys did a great job.. Muito bem feito.

I will be rooting for Palhares to turn some more heads and come out with the victory against Henderson. Dan Henderson coming off two losses in a row..UFC88 Toquinho may have a tuffer Dan Henderson to deal with. I really..really hope Palhares comes out the victor.. he would make an excellent top contender at 185lb UFC division. Outside of Anderson Silva..Henderson has never been submitted, so if Toquinho can end the fight with slick submission.. 9/10 it would be another submission of the night.

by PhilQNY on Aug 21, 2008 10:04 AM EDT up reply actions

thx Linx.. I forgot he got tapped by the Nog’s.

by PhilQNY on Aug 21, 2008 10:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Phil and John, at this point in time a loss would be much more devastating to Hendo’s career as opposed to Palhares’s. So if you are a fan of both, you should be rooting for Hendo!

by ViolentMike on Aug 21, 2008 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

VM: Very true.. but I’m a bit bias here bro. I’m Brazilian.. unless Toquinho was a complete asshole..which he is not.. I have to root for him.. On the other side of the scope I competely understand your point of view.. that is why I think Dan is going to be very DANGEROUS at UFC88 for Palhares. This should be one fight most should be looking for at UFC88. To be real.. I’m not even ordering it. I’m ordering 90..and watching 89 freebee on Spike.

or just watch it online for free :) that’s what I do when I don’t have money!

I just havent seen the same NASTY Dan Henderson from Pride. He looks like a WATERED down version since he has been fighting in the UFC. Where is the relentless Tenacity that he showed in Pride? I havent seen it, have you? Hopefully becuase he is riding a loosing streak he will snap out of it and Bring the PAIN! I was going to put $100 on Rousimar, but now I am thinking just $50. No matter what I bet, I will still be rooting for Hendo. I still would like to see him stay at top form so that I can eventually see some more DREAM fights with him involved. For example: Hendo vs. Wandy, Hendo vs. Franklin, Hendo vs. Liddell, Hendo vs. Anderson 2

by john on Aug 21, 2008 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s funny that you say that right after you got your panties in a bunch after I made the same recommendation… I wanted to see Hendo vs. Franklin, and this was the perfect time to do it, in my opinion.

by UFCAddict on Aug 22, 2008 2:04 AM EDT up reply actions

Rousimar will win. He have a better BJJ game then Nogueira brothers (the BTT coaches said that). Hendo is not has good as you think. I’m betting hard on this one. And this video don’t show the REAL hard training. It’s only for you fools think he is chill’in is ass in Brazil. Ahahhha
