Jens Pulver vs Leonard Garcia WEC fight official for September 10

jens pulver vs leonard garcia WEC
Former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver will return to 145-pound action against Leonard Garcia at WEC 36 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on September 10, according to an announcement today.

In fact, the showdown was among several bouts confirmed for the first-ever show for the promotion in the "Sunshine State." To check them all out click here.

Pulver recently lost a five-round fight to current featherweight champion Urijah Faber. It was the first loss for him at his natural weight. "Lil Evil" won his WEC debut, submitting Cub Swanson with a nifty choke just seconds into round one.

He was rumored to face Alexandre Noguiera until he was suspended for a failed drug test.

With "Pequeno" out of the picture, insert Leonard Garcia who also has a lot to prove. Garcia debuted with WEC in Febuary with a first round technical knockout over Hiroyuki Takaya. The celebration was short lived, however, when Garcia was arrested for alleged participation in a drug-ring in Texas.

Since then, Garcia has been cleared of most if not all of the charges and has the green light to resume life as he knows it as a fighter.

WEC 36 is headlined with a championship doubleheader -- Mike Brown will challenge featherweight king Urijah Faber and 185-pound champ Paulo Filho will rematch Chael Sonnen for the WEC middleweight title.

The main card will air live on the Versus network at 9 p.m. ET on fight night.

yup, can’t wait to see Jens mess up that cokehead deadbeat dad.

by kitsunex on Aug 20, 2008 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You’re out of line Kits. He’s a coke dealer (allegedly), not a cokehead. Big difference.

by PW on Aug 20, 2008 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

oh right a coke dealer is MUCH better than a cokehead :eyeroll:

by kitsunex on Aug 21, 2008 12:15 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

and no, i don’t feel i’m out of line. Garcia is scum, plain and simple.

This fight has great potential. Neither guy will quit. Both of these guys are very tenacious fighters with a lot of heart.

Now THAT’S what I’m talking about!

I’ve wanted to see this fight since Leonard Garcia moved down to 145. Him and Jens will stand toe to toe and bang it out. The fighter that wants it more will win this fight, and neither of them are walking out of the cage looking pretty.

I actually might not bet on this fight (depending on the odds) and just sit back and enjoy! However, if Garcia is a substantial underdog, he may be worth a small bet, but I don’t see him being a big enough of a dog to be profitable. After his performance against Faber, I see Jens winning this fight at least 65% of the time, which would mean that Garcia would have to be like +190 or better to be profitable, which would put Jens at around -240 with a 70% chance of winning.

I’ll take Pulver, Garcia is good, but not as experinced as Jens. I mean we all saw what Jens did to Cub Swanson.

This is a MUST see video. BJ Penn talks about his upcoming fight with GSP. The lady giving the interview is asking some pretty tough questions. BJ also talks about what will happen with his fight against Kenflo after the GSP fight. It is also interesting to noe that Penn was stuck in his hotel elevator the weekend of UFC 87 in Minnesota.

Here’s the link:

Good interview. It starts about halfway through the clip. My favorite was when he said he’s doing Florian a favor by making him wait because when he wins the super-fight against GSP, the fight between he and Kenny will be 100x bigger than his fight with gsp….yeah, right.

In the words of the oh so wise Mike Goldberg

" Little Eagle flys again "

LOL

Excellent!! The winner of this fight should drop to 135 and take on Miguel Torres.

by Muscle Dolphin on Aug 20, 2008 5:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yea, I think it would be cool to see Jens fight Miguel at 135, cause then if Miguel won it would give him a reason to go up and fight Faber.

Great matchup!

I think this fight is going to be epic. Anyone who saw Huerta vs. Garcia knows that Garcia is a scraper, but come on Jens is going to finish this fight with a knockout. The only question now is in my mind is in what round it will be. I know Garcia has the heart. but it all Depends on how hard Garcia’s chin is.

by Wanderlei Fan on Aug 20, 2008 8:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Jens is bout done. I don’t see the fire like when he was younger, maybe it’s just me.

I agree.

by Wanderlei Fan on Aug 21, 2008 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I disagree. He’s alot more focused and looked great against Faber. He had plenty of fire.

by DSmith on Aug 20, 2008 10:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This should be a great fight. I’ll go with Jens via decision.

by Jrandolph on Aug 20, 2008 9:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This should be a barn-burner.

by UFCAddict on Aug 20, 2008 9:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

this is going to be a hell of a fight! a stand up war but i think jens is more technical and we know both can take a punch i think jens will win a decision, also it would not suprise me if the winner gets the next title shot

by matt on Aug 20, 2008 10:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

WEC consistently puts together some of the most competitive fights. Great matchup.

by DSmith on Aug 20, 2008 10:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This is going to be a great fight. I like both guys if I am forced to pick I am going with Garcia Jens looked slow in his last fight but I guess Faber can make most guys look slow.
