I dont understand why we have to start listening to Cote’ nonsense so soon. Ufc 88 and UFC 89 feature many more competitive and interesting match ups yet for the past month we are already being bombarded with quotes from this mis match fight!
JOKE!!!!

dont get me wrong, I actually am a fan of Cote’s. He has paid his dues. he turned a horrible loosing streak to a nice win streak. He stepped up a weight class to fight Tito on short notice back when Tito was tough and cote was making his UFC debut and Cote has fought in the War (Bosnia I believe?).
My beef is that he isnt even a top 10 middleweight let alone a number 1 contender and the fight is 3 events away. I know its not his fault that people are interviewing him, but why the F cant reporters stick a microphone in the faces of Alves/Diego, Jardine, Henderson, Chuck….why so much Cote news? and for what, another 1st round KO by Silva?

I have the same problem. He’s my frien’ds cousin, and I’m even a Canadian, but there’s no way I think Cote should be fighting Silva, not yet anyway. Don’t you usually have to beat a top contender to get a title shot?
But you know, it’s starting to get to the point where I’m getting tired of hearing Anderson Silva’s name everywhere I go lol. Really starting to want to see him lose, just for the sheer excitement of actually seeing him lose. Imagine if Cote actually lays out Silva? Out on his back, eyes open, staring up at the lights…wow, that would be something. Sure is nice to dream lol.

He has zero chance at winning. Tell you the truth, I think that Martin Kampmann and yes, even Thales Leites have a better chance at beating Anderson than Cote does. And Cote gets a title shot ONLY because he squeeked out a split decision against Ricardo Almeida combined with the Okami injury…
Cote is getting this little title shot of his because he is suddenly on a 4 fight win streak in the UFC. Well, guess what, before that he was on a 4 fight loosing streak, making him 4-4 in the UFC.
Now lets compare his last 4 fight win streak with Leites and Kampmann’s.
PATRICK COTE defeated in order
- Keep in mind he lost all 4 UFC fights prior to the Smith fight.
Scott Smith (decision)
Kendall Grove (TKO)
Drew McFedries (TKO)
Ricardo Almieda (slit decision)
Martin Kampmann has had 4 UFC fights and is undefeated, and in order they are:
Crafton Wallace (submission)
Thales Leites (Decision)
Drew McFedries (submission)
Jorge Rivera (submission)
Thales Leites is 4-1 in the UFC, also riding a 4 fight win streak. In his octagon debut, he lost a decision to Kampmann. Then he went on to beat:
Pete Sell (decision)
Floyd Sword (submission)
Ryan Jensen (submission)
Nate Marquardt (split decision)

VM: I feel like quoting that USSR poltician from Rock4.. in a deep russian accent.. " Silva shouldn’t even fight this man, cause he is a has been ".. I always just find humor in the way said that.

Great post Mike! Its a travesty to waste a title defense on Patrik Cote! Like u said, Kampman and Thales would make for better opponents then Cote. I would rather see Rashad cut down and fight Silva instead of Cote.
I dont care what the odds are, I throwing $500 on Silva, I will worry about the odds later. Yes a $500 dollar bet could end up loosing me $2000 but I have been scared away from betting BIG MOney on Silva too many times because of the odds and I am sick of it! I am laying it on the line against Cote! If Cote Knocks out Silva (which is the only way he could win the fight), then I deserve to loose my money….I just dont see it happening!
by john on Aug 19, 2008 12:09 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
John, betting $500 on Silva and him losing would cost you MUCH more than $2000. I’m predicting to see Anderson around -800 for this fight, meaning a $4k loss.
by ViolentMike on Aug 19, 2008 12:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
wow! U think the odds would get that High? I cant risk loosing $4k. U know how many bets I had to win to make $4k? lol I was thinking Silva would be about -550 because UFC odds tdont usually get much higher, but I wouldnt be surprised if you end up right. I know I said that I wouldnt let the odds scare me away from a sure thing, but F that!
If the odds are that high, I will probably just bet like $250 on Silva!

I guess there at the point where they’ll throw everything at this guy except the kitchen sink.

The reign of Silva will be very long. I guess it will get boring after a while, the moving back and forth between weight divisions will help ease the pain. Well at least Cote is less delusional than Irvin was.

John.. You know about the current affairs of MMA better then most.. and I totally agree with your entire post.Toms Bombs: NAh.. I would cry..weep.. brake something..flipped.. get arrested.. be pissed,, if Silva were t oever lose..in any way.. I understand the whole going for the underdog thing.. I do the same.. but once in a 100 light years we a blessed to be living during the MMA timeline that has given us Anderson Silva. MMA legend..a Champion of Champions.. the King of 185!! Outside the Octagon he is one of the most soft spoken..a real nice guy.. that is some I hope doesn’t lose any more fights in his career.

Phil: I agree. I dont get why people are so fixated on seeing greatness loose! Jordan dominated basketball for years, Tiger is dominating Golf. Phelps just dominated swimming. Nothing wrong with greatness every once in a while. Many of you guys are dying to see the great silva and Fedor loose, but why? I dont get it. I look forward to years down the line to be able to tell stories about the greatness that I witnessed from Fedor and Silva dominating their respected divisions.
Phil: THank you for your words of encouragement! Our talk on sunday really inspired me! As a result I have my 1st Ju jitsu class tHursday night! YOu can call me “White Belt John”. I look forward to training with you my friend! THanks for the inspiration. I may be a white belt in training but i AM NOT A WHILTE BELT IN KNOWLEDGE!
Off topic: did anyone see the comedy central roast of Bob Saget the other night? HISTERICAL!!!!!

I’m honored to be your Mania Brotha.. and soon enough your jiujitsu Brotha.. Absorb!!! as much as you can day by day.. the white belt IMO..is the best belt to hold.. why?? The white belt mentality is usually lost througout the BJJ journey..all these BJJ moves that BJ, Bravo, NOg, Rolyer, Renzo, Almeida, Leites, Roger, Jacare and company..all learned the triangle, armlock, kimura, the guard basics..in defense and attack.. they all learned this moves as white belts, as they progress into the art of Jiujitsu they refined their skills, got more fliued with their transitiodn, their body’s hardend cuz of the stress of grappling.. their cardio got better.. but the point of origin traces back to the white belt.. you are in a great position.to be who you want to be on the mat…A white belt is a spunge ready for absorption. If you hav any questions on Jits.. let me know..When you start your BJJ journey..let me know how it went.. You will go from the frying pan to the fire.. have fun.. train hard.

I am a fan of Cote, and he is my Canadian home-boy, but he is walking into a tornado fighting a guy like Anderson Silva!!!
His face will not be the only thing “messed up”…His ribs, legs, body and feelings will be “messed up” serverely
by Stagger-Lee on Aug 19, 2008 9:37 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Cote doesn’t have to worry about looking messed up, this fight won’t last long enough for him to get the John Fitch/ Heath Herring beating, he’s just not tough enough to hang in there for it.

are you mad, you make out like cote is a pussy – hes easily the toughest fight silva will have at MW
by Insain on Aug 19, 2008 9:43 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That has yet to be determined, cause the flip side is he’s A. Silva’s fastest KO to date.

Cote won’t get ko’d faster than Irvin, he has a very good chin, but I would be surprised to see it go past the 1st round.
by brac on Aug 19, 2008 10:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Cote isn’t a pussy, but we’ve all drunk the Kool-aid. Silva will have to have Irvin’s foot injury (drugs and all), Diego’s staph infection, Sierra’s herniated disk, Hughes’ MCL and GSP’s former alleged mental state to loss a fight. What’s to be done? Sigh.
by DSmith on Aug 19, 2008 10:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
WHAT? When has Cote even taken enough punishment to know if he is tough enough. Cote is GREAT at not taking punishment and that is a HUGE asset when fighting Silva. Haven’t you noticed, Cote always looks the same before and after a fight. I guess being able to take a beating like Fitch or Herring can help in a fight, but I’d rather be like Cote and be able to avoid punishment. Tito has made hamburger out of a lot of faces with his GnP and he couldn’t hurt Cote for a full 3 rounds. Most think it will be a cake walk for Silva and he will run right through him. I guess everyone is in for a treat and surprise, when Cote makes this a very exciting fight. Like VM said, there are other candidates they could have picked, but Joe silva has his job for a reason, he knows who will make it an exciting fight. 2 strikers (who can take a punch) and both seem to like keeping it on the feet. Cote will surprise a lot of people, even if he loses.

Wishfull thinking by another game opponent, but in the end will be just another quick notch in Andersons belt.

At least he is not in denial about that. He knows he has the challenge of his life in front of him with A. Silva.
We all saw Serra do the unlikely with GSP. Cote has as much of a chance as him at least.

Nothing but respect for Cote. He has as good a chance of winning as any of Anderson’s previous UFC opponents with the exception of Dan Henderson. Would you rather see Rich Franklin get tossed around like a rag doll for a third time? Or maybe Almeida with absolutely no chance of getting the fight to the ground. For once, I just want to see Anderson get hit with a hard shot and be in just a tiny bit of trouble. And I honestly think it could happen with Cote. However, there is next to no chance of him finishing Anderson. Nonetheless, good luck to Cote.

Cote, knockout rd 1. Anderson is a punk.

For real…. i hope cote knocks him out to show all you people he does deserve a title shot… The post about kampmann and Thales Leites having better shots to win… lol Thats just crazy! The only reason Leites won that fight with nate was cause nate was pennalized twice… And kampmann is way overrated!! He is an alright kickboxer with decent submissions… cote atleast has knockout power and will be willing to go after anderson… i think the only way cote wins is if he catches him and knocks him out… leites would get owned on the feet and his jujitsu isnt any better than silvas… kampmann would be worse cause hes a kickboxer and not agreat one so he would stand and get knocked the fu*k out!

Silva would defeat all of the names above mentioned.. but what my commrade was referring to in the current situ at 185.. Okami is next in line for a title. Being that he won " via gimmy a won by whatever you want to call ".. he handed Silva a loss.. and he is undefeated in the UFc.. but he broke his hand.. Cote just edge a out of UFC cardio shape Almeida.. and was getting handed by Ricardo in the first set.. all in all. Cote is a TUF mofo.. I respect him.. not many can go on a UFC lossing streak and turn the tables like he did.. he has aggresive fighting style.. which fans like.. but he is not worthy of a title shot currently.. Leites, Kampmann, and Cote would lose to Silva today.. but who deserves a title shot and get s a title shot is always up for debate. I hope Silva does what is meant to do.. Be the most dominate force at 185 that the world has ever seen.

cote fans please put down the bong. please quit saying cote has a tough chin, he is untested he is 4-4 in the ufc against low level competition. just because he gets a title shot it does not mean he deserves it, it just means there is no body else to give it to. look at who cote lost to and look at who he beat. there are no world beaters on the list. he had one good punch against tito, then he basically ate elbows and got dominated for 3 rounds. and tito got exposed as a mid level fighter. cote has no prayer axcept that of a flash knockout. if they fought 100 times silva would win at least 99 of those. i am not a big silva fan but i am tired of the cote crowd hailing his praises, HE AINT DONE SHIT!!!!!!!!!!
by day1er on Aug 19, 2008 6:35 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That’s funny. In the same breath you say Cote ain’t done shit, you say there is nobody else to give it to. I guess they done LESS shit, right. Look at who Silva has LOST to, they certainly aren’t world beaters. No one has beaten Cote with a record of 7-12. I’m tired of the Silva crowd mentioning Cote’s 4 losses when they PALE in comparision to the cans Silva has lost to. Oh, you say that was a few years ago that Silva lost those fights, he is better now, well ditto for Cote.
by Gord on Aug 19, 2008 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
fine lets look at whos beat who. silva beat a dominant rich franklin twice, dan henderson(an olympic caliber wrestler and a man that held two pride belts). who has cote beat ………………. nobody. dont even say ricardo almeida the guy came off a long lay off and the sport passed him by. they both had a fight at 205 cote got handled by like a boy by tito. silva had a joke of a fight against a scrappy james irvin. trust me i am not silvas biggest fan im just saying cote has no chance and i think there are more deserving people for a title shot
by day1er on Aug 19, 2008 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If Irvin couldnt do it with his highlight reel ko power what makes cote more plausiable? There is reason why everyone loses to the spider and its not cause you make mistakes its because he brings an entirely different attack called intelligence. Dont get me wrong im canadian so ill be rooting for cote but he is gonna need to bring some intelligence and fight a smart fight to beat this man. GO COTE.
