Rashad wants to keep the fight standing and throwing punches? Before I just thought he was gonna lose, but now I think he may be trying to commit suicide.

If Rashad does try and trade with the iceman? He will definitely get KO’d…Rashad will most likely lose no matter what he try’s..
This whole card is crazy..They finally work it out that Hendo and Franklin are on the same card, and they are not fighting eachother???WTF?..
IMO-Franklin/Hendo or even Franklin/Chuck would make for a better main event..Rashad should be fighting Hammill..

stager: I completely agree. Dont know what the hell Joe Silva was thinking when he put together these match ups.
Hendo will loose to TOQUINO!

I’m going a little loopy and picking Rashad. And I hope both Hendo and Franklin win john, that way we can see them mix it up next time!

I want to see Franklin vs. Hendo as much as anyone. But I will be betting money on Palhares. Not a lot of people know about him and since he is fighting a big name guy like Henderson, it will make Palhares a HUGE underdog and a profitable pick for me to bet on. Rusimar is training with former champion Murilo Bustamante who has faced Hendo once or twice, I dont remember. I know they fought for the title at shockwave, but I cant remember if they also fought on a Bushido card. Bustamante never beat Hendo but he is familiar with him and will put together a successful game plan for Palhares to follow.
I am a huge Hendo fan and I hate to say it, but he is getting choked out by Toquino!
by john on Aug 19, 2008 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Keep in mind Chef, that Franklin is fighting at 205. If he wins, its not certain that he will even return to middleweight. Luckily Hendo fights at both weights so HOpefully the match up will still take place regardless of the weight class.

Yo Chase! First Kos, then now Rashad? I’m assunlin’ you’re a wrestler too…Well no offense, but I think Evans is 1 overrated mofo! Hope he pushes the pace on Chuck while Chuckie back pedals then bam!!Lights out Rashad!

I like Wreslters, Kos Is a great one, and He’s Impoving His Overall Game, He will Become the Next WW Champ, and His Dominance Ill Reign for Years, As for Rashad, i don’t like him Much, But I want him to get the Upset, and I want people to give him More Credit/Respect, and i think that Winning against Liddel In a Good fasion, could do it. War Koscheck!!!!!!

he will never beat gsp. and alves would do some real damage on him too

Alzes Is A Chump compaired to Kos. Kos would actually be able to take him down unlike hughes, and would just work him like he did Lytle. Kos has to get his over all game Together inorder to beat GSP, and Use More Of his Wrestling Agressivly the next fight.
by Chase on Aug 19, 2008 2:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Alves could stuff Kos’ takedowns, just like Chuck could stuff evans’. And as long as Penn is around, Kos won’t be able to wear the WW belt…Sigh, as for shad, sorry dude. Your unblemished record would have a mark pretty soon…
Bruce Buffer:“…he has 13 wins with 1 loss comin’ by way of knockout!”
by TheNegation on Aug 19, 2008 2:40 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
LOL saying that Alzes could stuff Kos’s Takedowns is funny, Kos would have him down in a heart beat, as for Liddel, No duh, No Body can old Him down for long, Because he has great defensive Wrestling from Being a Wrestler Himself. If Kos and Alzes ever fight, Alzes would get Lytle’d On.

chase, I used to respect you, Til you started bad mouthing Alves. FYI, Alves would Knock Koschek into Next week!

Chase – Kos isnt even the best in his camp! No way he becomes champ! And he’s older than Fitch, GSP, Alves, or even Swick.
NO SHOT!
by WB on Aug 19, 2008 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Besides BJ, the only fighter with a shot against GSP is ALVES!!! GSP has made a career out of beating up wrestlers, kind of like Chuck only they do it differently. Chuck just knocks them out, while GSP beats them at their own game and out wrestles them.
We have yet to see GSP face a pure, Nasty Striker….thats what Alves is, and right nOW he is on FIRE!!!! He continues to improve and he is packing on a whole lot of muscle. He will get the weight cut down to a science and just continue to improve. I feel that he will be GSP’s most interesting opponent (besides Penn of course).
Koschek wont EVER be a champion! I mean EVER!!! His only shot is leaving the UFC.
Question: how do u guys think a koschek vs. Sheilds match up would play out?
by john on Aug 19, 2008 10:04 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Thenegotiation, there is no comparison in the wrestling abilities of Alves and Liddell. Chuck has proven his wrestling against some of the best in the business. Rashad likely will not even try to take him down. I don’t see him pushing the pace but standing in the middle and trying to counter Chuck.
Alves is a top notch wrestler now?? Why because he stuffed a couple takedowns from an over the hill Matt Hughes. I don’t like Koscheck but I hate to break it to you, he would take Thiago down. I am a much bigger fan of Thiago but that would be a bad match up for him.
by halljam2 on Aug 19, 2008 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ok, so he won’t stuff all of Kos’ takedowns. but nonetheless, Kos will be seein’ stars and stripes after he gets KTFO by Thiago. I really like strikers more than wrestlers, so call me biased, but IMO, Kos won’t wear the belt, and same goes for Shad…
And oh, if you could just read a little better halljam2[i wonder who the original halljam is, a.k.a.halljam1], it’s “Negation”, not negotiation. Read the fine print. Hit the books

I mean similar to the way Fitch was surprised by GSP’s speed.

Well, it might be the other way around. Shad might be surprised because while he’s closin’ in on Chuck, WHAM!! Chucks fist lands on Evans’ jaw. Good night Shad!!

I am just not excited about this fight At ALL! YAWN!! I dont even want to analyze this fight. what wrong with me? This isnt that bad of a fight, for sure its better then I give it credit for but I just cant get hyped up over it for some reason!
by john on Aug 19, 2008 7:28 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The reason he hasn’t fought was because he supposed to fight Thiago Silva at 84…then when Shogun got hurt he was moved to 85 to fight Chuck…then Chuck got hurt and then he was supposed to fight Irvin and then Irvin got hurt and then it was supposed to be Luiz Cane but the UFC called it all off and rightfully so…you can’t give someone a fight against Thiago or Liddell then make him fight Cane.
I said this back at UFC 85 and I’ll say it again. This is a win-win fight for Rashad. If he wins…he’ll fight for a #1 contender’s match at least. I doubt they give him Forrest after this. If he loses…then a loss to Chuck doesn’t hurt his ranking too much cause it’s Chuck and most people expect him to lose. Plus this will give him his first loss and that’ll go a long way to helping him evolve as a fighter. I think he sometimes fights not to lose to keep that undefeated record going and that’s what holds him back from really letting loose. Look at how Bisping has changed since his first loss…he lets it all hang out now and goes to work. I think the same would happen to Rashad and I would almost like to see him lose for this fact. He might even try and follow Bisping down to middleweight whichi I think he could make and he could really do some damage down there. This is a good time for a loss for him for his career though…he’s still young and losing to Chuck won’t put you down into the undercards.
Rashad has a point though. Chuck is 38 now and he’s not exactly in his prime anymore. Don’t get me wrong…Chuck is just as dangerous but he’s not unbeatable like he used to appear. If Rashad is to win then he’ll first have to come in the best shape of his life cause his cardio against Bisping was awful. He also needs to have those quick jabs working for him and he’ll need to have Jardine teach him how to really snap those leg kicks to work that sore hammy. Rashad needs to close the gap on Liddell which is extremely difficult and get him against the fence like Randy did and use the fence to get him down…also very difficult and if Rashad gets him down…he really needs to stay very busy to keep him there. He has a solid chin but like anyone’s chin…it can only take so much. For anyone to say that Rashad has no chance is ridiculous…he’s never been beaten before…no matter whether you like the way he’s won or not…he’s earned this opportunity.
I think Rashad has a lot of respect for Liddell looking at this interview so hopefully we see a more focused Rashad and I think this will be a closer fight than everyone predicts and I think Evans has the tools to get the job done but he can’t afford too many mistakes. Greg Jackson will have a solid gameplan and I think Rashad saying he’s going to come in and bang with Chuck is a rouse.
WAR RASHAD!

I don’t care about this fight either. I don’t think Rashad brings any danger to Chuck at all. They feel each other out for 30 secs and Chuck by TKO within 1 minute 1st rd.

Great post Buster. I agree that Rashad has a shot, but for some reason I just cant get all hyped up over this match up. I dont know why.
I know that Rashads opponents kept changing but he was 1st offered a fight at UFC 84, what has he been doing since UFC 73 which was the last time he fought? even if he did fight at 84, thats a huge lay of from 73.
U make a great point that this is a win/win for Rashad because I agree that a Loss may actually help him (like Bisping). I dont think Rashad has the tools to finish Chuck. TO win he will have to do it by decision. Rashad is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the sport but I dont think its good enough to get Chuck down and Keep him down. Rashad struggled with Bisping (who was a little twirp at 205). When Rashad did take Bisping down he couldnt keep him down, so I doubt he will be able to keep chuck down. I kind of think that Rashad is wasting his time. Like Bisping he should cut down to middleweight!
I owuld rather see:
Rashad vs, Rich at middleweight (coach vs. student)

John the reasons Rashad hasn’t fought is exactly what Buster stated. His last fight was 11/17/07 so not quite a year. I used to wrestle at MSU with him so I always get excited for his and Gray’s fights. I think this is going to be by far the hardest fight for Rashad but he has had the time to train right so we will see.

Oh, I forgot all about the Bisping fight in November. My bad, I was thinking that he hadnt fought since last July at UFC 73 stacked vs. Tito. thanks for straightening me out!

I’ve had a hate on Rashad from the start.
I have to respect that interview though, no smack talk or typical hype talk about how he’s going to ‘impose his will’.
So props for that
But ya, I think Chuck is gonna be too much for Rashad on the feet.
by ShaiZ on Aug 19, 2008 12:20 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If Rashad isnt talking sh*t, its cause he knows Chucks hammers will hurt you even if you block them! Rashad was talking sh*t about Bisping, about how Bisping wasnt on his level. Rashad was also talking sh*t about Tito, how he was going to pound him out! So if Rashad is not talking sh*t about Chuck its for a good reason?
by JV on Aug 19, 2008 12:36 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Maybe Evans is scared because he’s a wrestler and he virtually has nothin’ to do serious damage on Chuck!
by TheNegation on Aug 19, 2008 1:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
rashad has never fought someone like chuck. chuck is gonna pressure rashad the whole fight. if rashad brings the same boring rashad we’ve seen before he will get knocked out. his only chance is to somehow get chuck on the ground and control him..i dont see that happening. but it should be a pretty decent fight..chuck via Unanimous Decision
by tuffguy01 on Aug 19, 2008 12:29 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Chuck’s a counter striker. He will stalk but his strength is catching people when they try to get wild on him. I agree Rashad is going to have a big disadvantage in many areas of the game in this fight.

chuck via KO/TKO first round at latest the 2nd round only way Rashad wins is if he lands a kick like on his highlight reel.

I’m honestly waiting for Rashad to impress me. It hasn’t happened yet. I don’t expect that it will happen with Liddell…as everyone knows he has great takedown defense.
Ultimately, I am convinced that Liddell’s wrestling is good enough to work in reverse to take care of Rashad on the feet. Though, I must admit, I am interested to see this new Rashad! He has had a long time off under a great coach in Jackson…and Liddell’s standup is not impenetrable!

I don’t know if Rashad can win I like the underdog so I will be routing for him. However I don’t think Rashad can get Chuck down he has decent standup I just don’t know if it is good enough to handle a Chuck Liddell. The one thing Rashad has is a decent chin I remember the shots he took from Brad Imes a huge heavyweight and he still won that fight. In the end I don’t know what is going to happen I hope Rashad comes with a good gameplan.
by Tim on Aug 19, 2008 10:18 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Brad Imes is a chump. He is just big, thats it. His chin is worthless and his fight game is too. I think Shads best chance is by getting a phantom punch like Rampage did. Rampage is a great fighter, who has really accurate strikes… Shad doesnt have that. He is going down.

Does anyone think that the winner of this fight should fight Machida who is suppost to be the #1 contender? After all it keeps floating around that no one wants to fight this dude. Chuck would be perfect for him, hell I wouldn’t mind seeing Reshad in with Machida to take him down (wouldn’t be a great fight). If not is Forest putting up the belt to fight Machida? I would hate to see Machida as the champ, not enough action from the dude in the oct!!!
by mmamac on Aug 19, 2008 11:03 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I bet that is why you havent seen him fighting for the belt yet. The UFC has to have exciting fighters to sell tickets. Bottom line. If you arent an exciting fighter, then you wont be champ. At least you wont get your shot.
I like Machida, I like his style… but he sure is boring to watch.

i think if chuck wins he should def be the next opponent of griffin!! after all hes done for the sport, he dominated the division for years and nevr got his shot to get his title back. Hes now beat wandi in style and if he beats the undefeated rashad it would be a great main event for the ufc and a chance for the ICEMAN to take his mantle once more!!! Machida will get next shot after the iceman if he beats thiago its what has to happen. Machida hasnt faced the same level of opposition as liddell hs thats why it has tobe liddell!!!!!!

machida has his hands full with thiago silva. Those two guys slide under the radar but the winner of that fight WILL be the next light heavyweight champion!!!

i never understood how chuck won half his fights. first of all he has real sloppy standup. but he does hit hard . he likes to back up and counter punch and guys that are dumb enough to chase him head down usually get popped ala couture & babalu. jackson did not chase him he even mocked him for backing away. rampage fought a smart patient fight and won. rashad will have to be patient and dont push him. rashad has a good chance of winning this fight. i think it has the chance to be a very good fight.
by day1er on Aug 19, 2008 10:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think its hard to get hyped for this fight because its one guy that is making such a leap talent wise. Just like, I don’t like Franklin fighting Hammil, and I don’t like Henderson fighting Palhares. Although the underdogs stand a chance in each fight because they’re very talented young fighters, the other three “oldies” are taking such a big step down in fighting an “up and comer” that its a bit too much. Rashad fighting Thiago Silva would have been good, but now Thiago has Machida. Palhares fighting Maia would have been good. And Hammil fighting either Rashad or Jardine. That would have cleared the way for Chuck to fight Shogun, and Franklin to fight Henderson. Joe Silva is not on his game, right now. He must be watching too much EliteXC or something.
