Carlos Condit vs Jake Shields video 'Rumble on the Rock' fight
Here are the current WEC and Elite XC welterweight champions doing battle before they were champions at "Rumble on the Rock 9" in Honolulu, Hawaii, circa 2006:
Shields went on to defeat Yushin Okami to win the tournament and Condit submitted Frank Trigg -- later that same night. Who wins if the rematch is tomorrow?

I would have to go with Shields winning a rematch..I also think Shields would be able to finish Condit this time..
I have been a Jake Shields fan for some time now and imo this night changed Jake into the finisher he is..He fought and defeated Yushin Okami and Carlos Condit in the same night, going the distance in both fights.
For those who have not followed Shields long, he used to get critisized alot before..While Jake was still winning the majority of his fights, he was not finishing..Since winning both fights that night, Jake has been on a terror finishing every opponant he has faced since(6 straight)..5 that were ended in the 1st round..
Jake Shields is on a 10 fight win-streak and is definitely in the top 5 best WW in the world..He really needs to leave EXC..(In fact, I want all the Ceaser Gracie boy’s to bounce on EXC

You got it all wrong. Jake beat Yushin earlier in the night, and fought Carlos in the finals.

John and I actually had this discussion with Jon Fitch about 8 or so months ago. We were talking about who would win in a rematch between Shields and Condit.
I still believe that Shields would win this fight, again by decision. However, I would expect the second fight to be more exciting than the first.
The standup edge goes to Condit.
The wrestling edge goes to Jake
And their BJJ skills cancel each otther out.
That means that Jake would again look to control the fight and try to punish Condit when he’s on his back, keeping close attention on the dozens of sub attempts that Condit would be throwing at him. But Jake will be aware enough of these subs to avoid them, plus he is stronger which would allow him the “muscle out” of a move or two. Jake is one of only 3 Cesar Gracie Black Belts. That is saying alot!
This is a fight that I love to talk about and I am looking forward to people’s insight.

Unforunately not. It was actually a discussion that was here on Mania. John and I were chatting it up about a few inter-promotion matchups including Shields/Condit, and the Fitchster chimed in told as all about this fight at Rumble on the Rock between Jake and Carlos and he gave his opinions of each fighter.

Vm: I remember! As much as I love Condit, I would say that Sheilds Ground n pound wil be too much for Condit. Like you said, Stand up to Condit, wrestling to Sheilds, Jits cancels each other out.
I think that te fight would end with Sheilds mounting Condit and ground n pounding away for a TKO win. I dont mean do discredit Condit (I am a big fan of the young man), but there skils are pretty even and Sheilds strength would probably be the difference.

I would have to say Jake takes the rematch he was able to take Carlos down at will. If Carlos could keep the fight standing then he would have a better chance but I don’t think he can beat Shields.

my guess is (shields’) repeated kneess to the back of the head of a downed opponenet (condit’s) wouldn’t be allowed next time.
condit by submission in a rematch.

i think shields takes it he’s a bigger and stronger 170lb fighter and carlos wont catch him in a submission, and i would say that jake will run through him nothing against condit but noone outside the ufc will beat shields

Rude Boy Troy??? Its kinda funny seeing him ref.
I think as long as Condit cant Defend the double leg he will lose a deceision. I could see him making the adjustment but I still see Shields as the more dominant fighter.

well, you have to take in consideration that a rematch between these guys would now be a five rounder…judging by that fight, 2 more rounds and I would think Condit would find a way to win that one. Now, they have both gotten better..like someone said, Shields in on a tear and has actually been finishing people(although no one as good as Condit), but I like Condit in a five round fight

The way this article is written confuses me. I am under the impression that Condit beat Trigg and Shields beat Okami so the two faced each other in the finals. However, the way the article is written sounds like this fight was first. Anyway, Shields definitely deserved the decision, however, Condit was the more exciting fighter. If they were ever to fight again, I see it going the same exact way since Condit does not appear to have gained the ability to stop the Shields takedown.
