Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale set for December 13 in Las Vegas

the ultimate fighter tuf 7
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 Finale is set to take place live from The Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 13, according to a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer newsletter.

It's the conclusion of the upcoming mixed martial arts reality series, which is set to debut on Spike TV on September 17, featuring a mix of light heavyweight and lightweight hopefuls who will compete in a tournament-style elimination format to earn a "six-figure" contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Of course, UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira and former division kingpin Frank Mir will serve as opposing coaches and eventually go toe-to-toe at the year-end pay-per-view (PPV) event set for December 27.

UFC Fight Night 15 will serve as the lead-in to the season eight debut of TUF on September 17. Two lightweight showdowns -- Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer and Mac Danzig vs. Clay Guida -- will co-headline the Spike TV special.

Stay tuned for more updates. In the meantime feel free to visit our TUF 8 archive early and often for the most recent news surrounding the show.

Yeah. But i like Danzig’s chances. I liket the way he performed during his last fight!…And also, I hope “The Dentist” hands Nate Diaz his teeth. I like Nick but not Nate, i dunno why…Hehe!!

I don’t think Guida’s going to be too tough for Danzig.. Danzig is an extremely smart fighter, and has fought some pretty notable fighter in his career.. I would be very suprised if Danzig loses.

do you mean he has gotten his ass kicked by several notable fighters?

I am calling it right now, Huerta vs. Lauzon at the Finale!

GasManShad, what are you talking about? Danzig has gotten his ass kicked I would say once, the KO in Pride to Hayato Sakurai – who has fought Gomi, Pulver, Hughes, Shields. Danzig is legit.

I was able meet and speak with Frank Mir when I was in Sacramento to watch the Urijah vs Pulver fight. He was eating at a local restaraunt on the coast line of the sacramento river with his family (I can’t remember the name of the restaraunt, but it’s a franchise restaurant that is next to the floating bar if you’re familiar with the area.). I was talking with my bro and his wife across the table when I saw a huge (bigger than I expected) dude walking toward/past our table. I stopped in mid conversation and said aloud to no one in particular, “Holy shit, that’s Frank Mir.”

Anyway we were able to catch him as the restaurant was closing to take ask if we can take a couple pics with him. He gladly accepted. Meanwhile I had to ask him about his preparation for the Nog fight, and to be honest, he was a little hesitant on answering my questions. Im sure part of the reason was contractual obligations to not to talk to anyone about his upcomming fights unless the UFC gives it the thumbs up. I mean, I could be a magazine columnist who’s quoting him verbatum. But, being that I know more than the average joe about his fights, I kissed his a$$ a little and referenced some of his great fights, and then he opened up a little and we got to chatting. To sum it up, he has worked out in the same gym as nog and has seen his standup game and believes he could beat him at it.

That’s probably the game plan with most of Nog’s opponents, and they end up executing well. They beat the crap out of Nog, but then they slip, and Nog capatalizes.

I’m pulling for Mir on this one. I’ve been a fan of his since he submitted Tank in like 45 seconds. Not a huge fight in retrospect, but it was one of the first fights I saw of the UFC, and that’s when I first saw what a submission specialist can do to a bar fighter. Textbook.
Simular to the Lesnar fight.

Sorry for the crazy long comment, but I’m at work. I get payed for this.

Has anyone seen the opening line for the Danzig/Guida fight? WHo do you all see as the favorite? I am hoping that they make Guida a small favorite because I plan on betting on Danzig.

Has there been any sort of word yet on whether or not this season of TUF will be Team USA vs Team Brazil??

Because these are the coaches for Team Nog:
Nog – speaks English quite well.
Anderson Silva – speaks no English
Machida – does not speak English

The communication between the coaches and team members will be even worse than if they had 8 Matt Hamill’s on thier team. At least Matt was able to read lips.

I have to agree. I think Danzig has a chance of course, but Guida’s stocky build, and crazy pace may be to much for Mac.

Based on Frank Mir’s ability to intelligently explain MMA moves when announcing WEC events, he should be an excellent coach.

they have two great heavyweight coaches. everyone knows that the heavyweight division is very weak, yet dana sets a show for a packed lightheavyweight fighter and a lightweight fighter. here was a missed opportunity for the spotlight to on a up and comer.

good job ufc.

The problem is they would have to find enough guys that were big enough for heavyweight, but too big to cut down to 205. Most people who fit that profile have all been crap so far.

In a country with a 50% obesity rate it shouldn’t be too hard to find guys who are legitimate HWs. Seriously though, if Dana does another TUF for HWs he needs to put it into their contracts before they even start filming TUF that they will all be required to fight at HW, not win the show, get a contract and cut to 205.

PW, how many obese HW fighters have you seen fight in a top organization? Roy Nelson is one of the only ones that comes right to my mind.

Usually, obese people tend to not be athletic.

I can’t wait for Guida Vs Danzing it’s going to be a good fight.

Both fighters have a great fight style different to each other…

by Anlienq on Aug 14, 2008 7:51 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely! And it isn’t even the main event! Diaz and Neer are both going to go out there looking to put on a show, as is Danzig and Guida (as usual). Then of course we still have the finals for the TUF show. Not one, but TWO finals fights, since they are back to the original format of two weight classes. This is already an event that I am really looking forward to.

does anyone know who the fighters are goin to be on tuf ???

by itsT.O.baby!!! on Aug 14, 2008 12:33 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Dana has apparently been comparing one of the fighters to A. Silva – saying he is just knocking dudes out and looking awesome. I know its clique to say, but he has called him “possibly the next big thing”.
