Dangity Dangity Dang: Bas Rutten motivates 49ers

Props: The Mercury News
"Fighting is easy to understand. You just hit the guy as hard as you can.... My message to them is about how to mentally deal with things. Some of what I talk about will be conditioning of the body, but my belief is that everything starts with the mind. You win a fight not with your strength but with your mind."
Former UFC heavyweight champion, ringside commentator and mixed martial arts legend, Bas Rutten, was recently invited to deliver a motivational speech to the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). The 43-year-old pioneer admits he doesn't know much about the sport, but that doesn't really matter -- he sure knows how to talk. While a nice touch, the five-time Super Bowl champions will likely need a lot more help than "el Guapo" to improve on their lackluster 2007 record and finish anywhere near the top of the NFC West.

Outside of MMAlive on ESPN.com… where is the ESPN coverage of the MMA sport.. I mean come on.. it’s everywhere.. peeps can’t stop loving it ..or can’t stop hating it. Put it up MMAlive daily..next to around the horn.. Jime Rome..PTI.. F’that.. Combat sports is nothing without MMA.
On a side note Rolles Gracie Jr.. last year was invited to the Jets camp to show how BJJ can be applied to Football.

at least this is 1 thing we can agree on. it seemed like last year espn was ready to jump all over mma, and then all the old fogies at espn said it was too violent and it kinda fizzled. now it seems like they might be ready to jump back on board again. i mean come on they have baseball tonight, nascar now, college football live, nfl live 7 TIMES A WEEK. some time twice a day! surely they can fit in 1 hour per week for the fastest growing sport in america!

It just shows that MMA is breaking more and more boundries and is becoming acceptable by mainstream America. Up next we have to legalize New York and Massachusetts because both have huge MMA fan bases and “Live from Madison Square Garden” or “Live from the Boston Garden” just has the right ring to it. Cha Ching!!

Apparently, his heart to heart with Brat Favre about acting like a spoiled prima donna really sank in.

both old men were pretty much still dominating at what they did as well although favre didn’t win a super bowl he had one of his best years passer rating wise for a long time if not ever, and randy had just dominated sylvia and gonzaga for his belt

Actually, I meant the part about them both walking away from contracts, then trying to force their way out of them on their own terms, regardless of what the contract holders felt about the situation.

I love Randy, so I hate to admit that I was thinking the same thing that PW was.

Just wanted to say that the title made me laugh.
Also, the ESPN coverage was – and is – due to a deal zuffa finalized with them. It isn’t decided by “old fogies” who go back and forth on what is and isn’t cool.

Bas just showed them a video of him kicking a$$ and promised they would ALL be next if they didn’t have a winning season this year. That’s all the motivation they needed…
