Miguel Torres 'itching' for next WEC fight in December

Props: MMADHOUSE.com
Quoteworthy:
"I’m itching real bad. I want to get down. I hate going to fights and sitting in the stands. I would have loved to have stepped in the cage on Sunday. I guess I just have to wait my turn.... I think [Manny] Tapia is at the front of the line, but he just messed up his knee. So I don’t know. I’ll fight [Brian] Bowles — he looks good. And if he doesn’t get the next shot I’m sure we’ll cross paths one of these days if he keeps winning. I don’t really care. I’ll fight anybody, anywhere. He doesn’t even have to be 135 pounds."
WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres talks about his eagerness to return to action in a recent interview against possibly Manny Tapia or Brian Bowles. Torres appears to indicate that Tapia has the inside track to challenge for his 135-pound belt next if he's fit. Otherwise, we could see Bowles -- who recently stopped Damacio Page -- get the nod. Either way it should be a tough fight for either fighter -- Torres sounds fired up.

I still feel like a complete moron for not remembering who this guy is and thinking of the Torres that I had seen box on ESPN! Sorry and thanks for the correction VM! I went and watched a few of his fights on Youtube, and feel even dumber now. I hate to a guy who ways less than I did as a sophomore in H.S. able to whip my @ss!lol

Just another solid reason to love this kid as a fighter:
" I don’t really care. I’ll fight anybody, anywhere. He doesn’t even have to be 135 pounds."
I want the UFC to start trying to bring in the ranked Japanese fighters at 135 and 145 on 1 fight contracts so that they can instantly fight for the title. Neither Torres or Faber have any formidable opponents in the WEC, so its time for them to take a good look elsewhere to find some good competition for them to face.
And if they somehow do win the fight and become the champ, it can be up to them whether or not they want to defend it. If they don’t and decide to go back to Japan, then the WEC can hold a tourament spread across several events to decide the new champ.

I would love that ViolentMike, but I dont think that it will happen. Dana’s biggest fear in life is for a foreign fighter to defeat one of his champions, win the title and take it back to their country. I dont think its all that big of a deal if it were to happen but it FRIGHTENS dana.
I would love to see “kid” fight both Urijah and Miguel but “kid” had surgery on his torn ACL: and will be sidelined for the rest of the year. As much as I love “the kid” I think both Urijah and Miguel would have a great shot of defeating him….I would love to see those fights take place!

VM thats an awesome idea to have the Japanese fighters come in but at the lighter weights they are very terrifying. These guys move at lightning speed and know every submission possible lol just check Aoki. It’d be cool if Dana could cross promote with Dream considering they don’t really have any solid competition with the UFC and could be a really good brother or sister company. Cross promote using the WEC that way there is less credibility lost if a champion loses… which is very likely. Although Miguel and Faber are phenomonal, they are still very beatable.

John…or anyone else who knows for sure…how involved is Dana in day to day operations with WEC… lots of ppl on here always say Dana should do this or that with wec but he is the UFC president not WEC president and seems pretty busy with his schedule as is. I’m sure he has input but don’t understand all kinds of criticism his way for things that go on over there. With the size of the WEC shows and the quality of the cards I would love to see the UFC add the lower weight classes, WEC could really be a true feeder league then and just imagine a UFC card where u got to see Silva, GSP, BJ, Urijah, Torres, and any top level LHW all fight the same night…. WEC events have small gates but i look forward to watchin those on tv more than most ufc events…I’d think financially they could maintain where they are at whether their top guys went to UFC or not. up and comers should still be able to draw 2k ppl

I still think he lost the first two rounds vs Maeda. Maybe after a couple of defenses, Maeda II?

Miguel Torres is a very impressive guy inside and outside of the cage. He has been fighting competitively since he was young, has a training facility that allows poor kids to join free, and all the while he has managed to complete a university degree in business. Furthermore, he is a true warrior in the cage. I really enjoy his fights. The first time I saw him fight I thought that he was great. Two years later and he is hightly rated in Fight! magazine. It’s too bad that the guy who “went to war” with Huerta (his name presently escapes me but he then got moved to the WEC) is in limbo, because he would provide an exciting match up for Torres. Torres is one of my favorite fighters.

You are thinking of Leonard Garcia who currently fights at 145 in the WEC. If he wanted to challenge Torres in a title fight, it would have to be 135. It would be an entertaining fight for sure, while it stays standing, but as soon as the fight hits the ground, it would be all Torres.
