MMA Quick Quote: Tito Ortiz to Affliction MMA not official ... yet

tito ortiz

"Don Trump Jr., myself and Tito engaged in a conversation. There is nothing substantive that was discussed other than the fact we are interested in sitting down with him, which we're planning on doing in the very near future."

-- Michael Cohen, executive vice president of The Trump Organization, today tells Sherdog.com at an official Affliction MMA press conference to promote "Day of Reckoning" that no deal has been struck with Tito Ortiz ... yet. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy," however, was quoted yesterday in an SI.com article that the deal would be "like no other" and that it was "ground breaking." In addition, the report indicates that Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio has not even spoken with Ortiz. This is certainly bizarre, but should not come as a surprise -- it isn't the first time Ortiz has bluffed to snag headlines. And it certainly won't be the last. The UFC has the right to match any offer, which could be the reason behind this latest news. Even though it is incredibly unlikely that the promotion would re-sign him because UFC President Dana White has been very vocal about having no interest of being in the "Tito Ortiz business" any longer.

deal will happen….they are only waiting for the clause to expire where a ufc fighter can’t negotiate with another organization for a certain time period after his last fight…Tito might have jumped the gun, affliction is just trying to cover its legal ass.

I agree! nothing to worry about, tito will fight for Affliction and really help them increase their ppv numbers!

If the deal is made, Tito will increase their PPV numbers somewhat in their first PPV. Weighing the pros and the cons, if this deal happens the way that Tito believes that it will, it could accelerate the demise of Affliction. Tito is a “prima-donna”.

I hate TIto, and I dont like watching him fight. But the guy has legions of FANS (I dont know why), but I think he can help Affliction more then the Human Bobble doll could hurt them.

Tito and Babalu genuinly HATE each other, and once the war of words start flying between the two, everyone is going to want to tune in to Affliction 2. I think trhere second event will easily break 100,000 ppv buys! I cant stand Tito and I am not a fan of his at all, but he is juts what Affliction needed to get thier ppv #’s up!

Here’s hoping that Babalu holds onto his choke until Jacob’s giant head pops.

pw: theres nothing I would like to see happen in mma more then what u just described!

Its no secret that Tito will put babalu on his back, hopefully his gracie baja training will allow him to catch Tito in something…and like u said, HOLD on to that CHoke till his head pops!

This is why I think Ortiz is such a knucklehead at times.

Maybe Tito is taking advantage of the fact that he earned Trump’s respect while on the ‘Celebrities Apprentice’ and trying to push for ‘ground-breaking’ deal. But like Tito himself said so that Trump is all business, not personal. If this affliction deal doesn’t pull through, then Tito’s stock will plummet and loses face big time.

maybe Trump’s gonna tell him, “it’s nothing personal, it’s all business” ha

Tito is a business man and is probably not going to jump at the first offer. UFC does have the right to match what Affliction offers him. This deal won’t be final until the end of this month. Tito has been doing this for 11 years and is finally getting the point across that fighters deserve more than what they are getting. If you guys were smart, you would realize that this is good for the sport. Hopefully he can get royalties from his fight videos and video games. UFC gets everything at this point. These fighters need an income once they stop fighting.
