Jon fitch is so prepared for this fight..I see this as a wrestling bout ending via TKO in the 4th round. GSP the winner

by Anonymousf*ck on Aug 5, 2008 10:15 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This will be without a doubt the toughest fight of GSP’s career. nEITHER FIGHTER HAS EVER FOUGHT LONGER THAN 3 ROUNDS AND i REALLY BELIEVE THAT IT WILL CHANGE COME sATURDAY!

I am a big fan of both fighters but I just think that GSP has many more ways of ending this fight then Fitch does.

IMO, Fitch will have to KO GSP standing to get the win, which is easier said then done! Fitch is a black belt, but there is no way he is submitting GSP. GSP beat the submission wizard, Mayhem miller who’s jits is at least as good as Fitch’s if not better.

If the fight goes to a decision, GSP will win. Fitch wont out wrestle GSP either, so Fitch is only left with 1 option, Knock him out standing. It will be a very hard fought fight and I dont believe that either fighter will finish the other.
So I think GSP will take the decision after a very brutal, yet technical WAR!!!! Fitch does have the punchers chance!

Violentmike: I tried answering your question yesterday but I think you missed it!

The submissions that Mayhem was attempting against Miura were “twister” and “Splits”

Affliction 2:
Barnett vs. Arlovski
Vitor vs. Lindland
Nogueira vs. Valamir the janitor (wont even try spelling his last name)
roy “Big Country” Neilson vs. Jay White (extreme Couture)
Rizzo vs. Buentello
Tito vs. babalu

HOpefully: Tim Sylvia vs. Aleksander THE GREAT!

Affliction 2 looks to be a much better card tan Affliction Banned was because many of these fights will be competitive, Hard fought WARS! Much more competitive fighst than Affliction Banned! Should be a great night of fights!

whoa-ho! big country is back in action. isnt jay white a trainer over at Xtreme?

by medecineballs on Aug 5, 2008 11:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I believe he is a ju jitsu instructor at Extreme Couture. I am sure he is a teacher, not positive its jist.

It seems like earlier on Fitch was trying to somewhat lure GSP into standing by saying that he thought GSP was now afraid of getting knocked out. Even Kos followed suit and started mimicking the same statement. However, since Fitch has only used 30% of his skills so far, it should be interesting now that he will probably be forced to use like 5 more percent (sarcasm). Regardless, I like both of these guys and hope to see a really good fight, which I expect. A flash knockout from either side would be disappointing to me.

by UFCAddict on Aug 5, 2008 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agree also.
Any one sees this as a lop sided fight for either fighter is out of their minds. I expect nothing short of a great great fight. I don’t think it goes to a decision. Someone’s going down on the 3rd or 4th. I predict GSP tries to keep it standing.

by lucas on Aug 5, 2008 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have to agree. I see this fight going 4 or 5 rounds and more than likely a 5 round dec. for GSP. It will probably be alot like GSP vs. Kos except this is a 5 rounder. Hope GSP is ready mentally because I don’t see Fitch going away.

by brac on Aug 5, 2008 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fitch said hes never turned down a fight, then 2 min later he says “ive never taken a fight i knew i couldnt win” lol

by brendan on Aug 5, 2008 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s because he feels he can win every fight he’s taken and 95% of the time, he’s been right (or 100% in the UFC).

Unless Fitch gets caught in an armbar early, I see fitch winning in the 5th by GnP. Fitch will get stronger every minute he’s in the cage with GSP.

by Arnold on Aug 5, 2008 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

On the contrary to the above predictions…just like how GSP out wrestled the wrestler in KOS, he will put on a Ju jitsu clinic and submits Fitch in the very first round…and shock everybody…but me.

The more I think about this fight, the more I see GSP running through him.

I don’t see this lasting past the 2nd round.

Check out this new wanderlei interview. I believe it was conducted right before this past weekends ICON event in Hawaii. its a pretty good interview and notice how much Wand’s english has improved!

It could be a possibility. I mean come on, he’s had that ridiculous hair forever too. We all know hes not naturally blond (haha) but if he perms his hair, then thats over kill. Its has become his trademark. He can’t change it now. It would be like Chuck shaving his Mohawk off or growing it out.

I just setup an account with BetUs, but I’ve never bet online before. It just has boxes to check, and when you do, a green “straight” lights up. Does anybody know how you pick the amount you want to bet?

by UFCAddict on Aug 5, 2008 10:20 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nevermind… figured it out. It has an “available balance” and a “free play balance” (thanks to mmamania). Does anybody know if the free play balance has a time limit?

by UFCAddict on Aug 5, 2008 10:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He benefited from koscheck in the diego fight,. so maybe having koscheck around will help against GSP.

by Toad on Aug 5, 2008 10:23 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I have a feeling Koscheck has a unsaid hatred for Fitch cause he is better than him and Kos can’t handle that.

I also believe GSP wins by UD.

by WB on Aug 5, 2008 10:27 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Then I heard Kos wants to move down to 155. Otherwise, if Fitch beat GSP, a match with Kos would be somewhere in the future.

I remember a little fiasco like this that stirred up a little drama. ORTIZ VS. LIDDELL !!! No matter what, fighters need to prepare themselves to fight anyone. Its their profession, its what they are paid to do. They should have the mentality that they would fight their mothers if they had to.

by DaneJa260 on Aug 5, 2008 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think they’ve started to change their tune a little now that they’re in title contention.

I believe I heard Kos say in an interview that they would fight each other if it was for the belt.

by TonyDrip on Aug 5, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The Ortiz Vs Liddell was just Tito dodging Chuck. I’m sure Fitch would fight Kos for the belt, I think training would be the hard part, you’d have to split the camp.

I don’t know about anybody else but I’m getting a little tired of hearing Fitch go on and on about not getting the respect he deserves, about other fighters ducking him, about always being the underdog, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. He does have a point, but it would be nice to hear an interview with him where he doesn’t complain about it. He claims that it doesn’t bother him but he just can’t seem to let it go, and he’s starting to sound more and more bitter each time he brings it up. Especially now that it’s all in the past. Today he’s certainly getting the proper respect as he’s widely considered the #2 welterweight in the world behind GSP.

So c’mon Fitch…quit yer bitching and get ready to fight. You’re going to need all the energy and focus you can muster just to not be completely embarrassed by GSP come Saturday night.

by just1fix4 on Aug 5, 2008 11:51 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It’s because the interviewers keep asking the same question.

Besides, if you were him and you hear from MMA fans is that “He hasn’t fought anyone good,” it would piss you off too. Especially when you’ve been after the top guys, but they won’t fight you because they’re afraid to lose to someone who isn’t a big name.

He got caught in a catch 22 – no one would fight him because he wasn’t a big name….he wasn’t a big name because no one would fight him.

by TonyDrip on Aug 5, 2008 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

“just to not be completely embarrassed by GSP” Yeah you’re right he’s getting tons of respect…

I’ve heard almost all of his interviews and only in 25% does he mention anything about past fights or getting dodged. I find it interesting that he was at the airport ready to go for TUFF and then was canceled on. I’m sure that wouldn’t create a sore spot for anyone else… You should read the artical

he got my respect too. never did dislike him, just his fight style that wasn’t too interesting. but the guy is a gym rat and deserve all the success thats coming to him. and it just got more interesting when he said he’s going to push a faster pace on GSP.

by kama kaze on Aug 5, 2008 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Very true, if fitch pushes the fight it should be very interesting. GSP was also quoted as saying that he was going to go for the win, not just fight not to loose.

by Arnold on Aug 5, 2008 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

isn’t everybody going for the win? whats so interesting about that? lol.

by kama kaze on Aug 5, 2008 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He said in the Serra fight he was “fighting not to loose”

It basically means instead of playing it safe, he’ll go for the KO or Submission; so yes it’s interesting and important.

by Arnold on Aug 6, 2008 8:23 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ooo i see. yea a GSP KO of Fitch would be shocking! especially after Fitch was saying stuff like GSP is afraid to get KOd.

by kama kaze on Aug 6, 2008 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

G.S.P. I believe Is on A Higher plane than John Fitch I Believe this will be a one sided fight more like a sparring session for george. Why the hell would fitch say hes only used 30% of his skill level that remark disrespected everyone hes fought in the past. Mabe thats why hes never dominated anyone.

by bossman on Aug 5, 2008 11:53 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

To say that Fitch hasn’t dominated anyone is just a$$inine. The dude is 8-0 in the UFC, which is a tie with Royce Gracie for the most consecutive wins ever. The only fight he looked less than impressive in was his last fight agaisn’t Chris Wilson. That was understandable because he should have been fighting for the title at that time, but had to wait. That was just a fight to stay busy that he probaly couldn’t get mentally up for.

There is no way this will be like a sparring session for GSP. Fitch deserves to be here and this fight will be an absolute war.

by BNF on Aug 5, 2008 12:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Im not tyring to say hes not a good fighter Im just saying hes never dominated top fighters.so your saying its ok that he didnt look 100% oh yeah 30% in his last fight because it was just to stay busy but if he would have lost he wouldnt be in a title fight now he could probably go fight carlos and get a wec title.

by bossman on Aug 5, 2008 12:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Fitch has a pretty good shot at winning this fight. GSP has shown lapses in the past, against very mentally tough guys. Not to say that he’ll lose to Fitch because of that, its just to say that he’s not the most mentally tough guy out there. If Fitch can stop GSP’s takedown (unlikely), GSP’s fragile confidence level will hit the floor, and then I think Fitch will maul him standing up. I know Kos couldn’t stop his takedown, but Fitch is a much bigger and longer guy than Kos was, and I don’t think GSP will be able to manhandle him like he did to Kos. Plus, I don’t know if Georges will be able to hold him on his back if he does get him to the mat. I could be completely wrong about this, but I think Fitch has a decent shot at winning this fight. I know some GSP fans will disagree and thats ok. I look forward to this fight either way. Part of me wants to see GSP win though, so we might get to see GSP/Penn 2! Now that will be a good fight.

by --utaptout-- on Aug 5, 2008 1:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You have figheters that get better with time. Then you have freaks who absorb new skils and become twice as good. That’s GSP. Looking at his past isn’t an indicator of what’s to come. I’m surprised that his fights with Hughes didn’t highlight this for people. He completely dominated Huges like a litle girl. It wasn’t just a mental thing although that played into the first fight. He rose to a level of wrestling that rivals the Canadian olympic team. That’s not normal. I am absolutely a GSP nuthugger becasue he dominated two guys I dsilike at their own game, i.e., Hughes and Kos. Having said that, GSP can be knocked out. But if he chooses Ground n Pound, that will happen.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Aug 5, 2008 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh, and the fact that Kos has trouble holding him down doesn’t mean that GSP can’t do it…..superior wrestling plus countless tools to actually damage a grounded opponent as opposed to firm dryhumping.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Aug 5, 2008 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Your wrong!

…“GSP’s fragile confidence level will hit the floor”…

When St. Pierre is focus, there is no way to get him out of his game plan. When he assure everybody in pre-fight interview that he will be 100% ready for a fight, speacially since the upset with Serra (The only reason who can justify your comment), he is 100% ready and extremely confident!

No doubt that GSP himself really think that he’s the best welterweight in the world.

As i see it, the biggest mistake for a futur opponent of GSP is to say that he’s mentaly weak!

by Jee on Aug 5, 2008 2:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The operative word being “WHEN” GSP is focused. If he were as great a champ as he wants to be, and you seem to think he is, his focus wouldn’t have ever come into question, and he never would have lost to Serra at all. Serra is a weaker fighter, that should be fighting at 155, and he KO’d the champ. We all know it was a fluke, but only because GSP was dumb enough to take him too lightly. I think Fitch is a more focused fighter, and he MIGHT pull off an upset. Its alot more likely than it was when Serra did it. Can Fitch’s heart and work ethic overcome GSP’s talent and athleticism? We’ll see.

Bottom line to me is, in the off chance that GSP CAN’T take Fitch to the mat, his whole game gets thrown out of wack, because he is no longer a confident striker. He hasn’t stood with anyone in a single fight since. Mental grittiness and heart are things you either have or you don’t have. He friggin tapped out when Serra was on top of him landing strikes. When was the last time you saw ANY champion tap the mat from getting hit? You don’t do that. You tap if you’re being choked with no escape, or if you’re about to have a joint broken. You don’t tap from strikes no matter what. You take your lumps and hope you survive it and make a comeback. In GSP/Serra 1, GSP flat out gave up.

IMO, GSP is the guy that was blessed with all the talent and ability in the world, but lacks the mental grittiness and heart that I mentioned earlier. The problem for him is, you can’t teach that stuff. It may not be from Fitch, but lets wait and see what happens the next time GSP gets rocked. If Fitch can’t, I bet Alves can. And mark my words, if GSP and Alves fight in the future, and Alves is clean(I’m still not sold on him being steroid-free after the Hughes fight), I bet Alves takes GSP out.

by --utaptout-- on Aug 5, 2008 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It think his first loss to Hughes was a mental thing….not really weakness, but pure childlike idolization. However, I don’t think the loss to Serra was mental weakness. He just got caught. His equilibrium was shot. You’re right about the tapping. My guess is Georges hasn’t ever felt that before. That’s an issue that comes with such talent that you rarely take big shots. He’s young and constantly improving. And not like everyone improves. He’s improving leaps and bounds all the time. He can take anyone near his size to the mat whenever he wants. As for the lack of confidence standing, I don’t know. It’s tricky, what would you do if you knew you could dominate everyone on the ground with little to no chance of loss? I’d like to see his standup again since it’s a thing of beauty, but I can’t necessarily blame him for playing it safe for a few fights.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Aug 5, 2008 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Another point I should make is that George isn’t unbeatable, but he has the ability to beat anyone. I think he could take Anderson Silva via ground n pound.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Aug 5, 2008 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have to disagree with you on GSP taking Silva by GNP. Anderson has great defense off his back, as he showed against one of tghe greatest wrestlers in the game, Dan Henderson. Although I admit, I would LOVE to see that match up. I think Anderson’s knees are too good to give up a TD to GSP. And if anyone could rock Georges, it would be Anderson.

by --utaptout-- on Aug 5, 2008 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You could be right about Fitch winning, but all the fragile confidence and metally weak crap, you don’t have a hope on being right on that. The guy you are descibing would have a record like this, loss, win, loss, loss, win, loss, loss, loss, win, loss, loss, loss, win ,loss, loss. Some guys are up and down like yo-yo’s, you don’t know what guy is going to show up and there records ALWAYS reflect that. It baffles me how some people come up with all the “I wonder which GSP will show up”, “He’s mentally weak”, “He doesn’t have any heart”, “His fragile confidence”, from ONE loss to Serra. That’s ONE loss. I really think these people should look up the word ANOMALY and take that fight for what it was.

I’ve went back and forth on this one but I have to believe it will end gsp armbar in the 4th or gsp by UD. Title fights tend to bring the best out of the fighters and I don’t see any problem with confidence with either of these two.

by cbaker on Aug 5, 2008 4:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I wasn’t impressed with the interview. Heavy underdogs have a certain style of answering questions. They talk themselves up a little too much, trying to convince the interviewer (and probably themselves) that they really can do it. I saw this style in this interview. Sounds like he is lacking confidence…
