UFC Quick Quote: Brock Lesnar isnt like anybody else

brock lesnar

"I'm Brock Lesnar; I'm not here to be like anybody else. Sure, I respect what a lot of guys have done, but I'm not going to sit here and look up to them. I want to be the best, me, Brock Lesnar, and I am working hard to be the best."

-- UFC heavyweight Brock Lesnar perhaps makes the understatement of the year, responding to a question from SetantaSports.com when asked who he admires in the UFC. He's a freak of nature. The former collegiate wrestling champion, WWE star and NFL dropout will take on Heath Herring at UFC 87: "Seek and Destroy" on August 9. He's dubbed it a "do or die" fight because of his first loss inside the Octagon to Frank Mir at UFC 81: "Breaking Point" earlier this year.

Bob Dole is here to tell you that Bob Dole likes the UFC. Bob Dole likes to watch fights. Bob Dole. Did I say Bob Dole yet? No? Well Bob Dole then.

Phil: Here is your daily dose of Affliction nEws:

Aleksander is disease free! this is what he said about why he wasn’t allowed to fight:

He want allowed to fight because he was late!
He says that according to the CSAC he was supposed to be tested on 13th. He only received a visa on 14th and came to US on 15th. He was hoping that they would be able to still work everything out – but apparently the CSAC is very strict on everything.

Also, Rizzo vs. Buentello is being discussed for the Affliction 2

Alos, Tito vs. Babalu as the co-main event will be made official August 6th

and Fedor earned 1.6 million dollars for Affliction Banned and now owns the righst to his fights footage in Europe, in what was one of the biggest single fight deals in the history of mma. this deal is unprecedented and some are calling his manager Finklestein, the drew rosenhause of mma!

Kevin: I am praying that its Aleks vs. Sylvia! Aleks would rip his head off, and wipe his ass with Tim’s mowhawk!

AS for DReam, rumors are that Cro Cop will either face Overeem or the middleweight stud Akiyama!

Lets hope its Overeem…Mirko should be ashamed of himself picking on a middleweight, especially when Overeem is calling him out!

Really, I thought the Russian Mafioso had Heppatitis.

Thanks for the props Phil!!!

My first title defense will indeed be against John! LOL Hopefully we can get something cracking for the August 9th event.

Probably around 6-7 months ago, John passed me as the #1 poster on Mania, so I would have to peg him as the small favorite when the opening odds are posted.

MANIA, when you have the time, would you be able to post the updated list of Top Maniacs again?

Also, I only post at work (8:30-5 M-F). I just got the internet at my house again 3 weeks ago and I thought that I’d be posting more on Mania. But the fact of the matter is that I’ve only logged onto mania once at my house – the day after Affliction and UFC because I couldn’t wait till Monday to chat about it!

it’s already been posted a few days ago. lots of mid terms john? you’re missing some of the more interesting (non ufc) info!!

I would place money on ol’ Timmy against Aleksander. Although, Timmy is VERY susceptable to the opening onslaught, and that is pretty much Alek’s game.

Tim is primarily a striker. The one time that Aleksander fought a top notch striker was against Cro Cop, and I don’t even think he lasted 2 minutes.

by ViolentMike on Jul 30, 2008 11:53 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah mike, I don’t wanna see that list. I’m on from 8-2 and would feel like a total loser because I know I’m on that list. I like you, very rarely come on the week ends. a. too many moron and b. family time!

I thought I just read a thread on here from Cro COp’s site saying that he is sick of gettting called out by Overeem and that he’d fight him. Whats going on? If Cro Cop does indeeed fight a MW instead, I OFFICIALLY consider his career to be over.

BTW, what homo conducted that interview??? His last question was:

yeah, if cro cop fights akiyama, I will be done talking about him.

VM: u will get your crown back as the top poster soon, because Starting september, i will have a 6 month internship for school, so I doubt I will be able to post during the day. Maybe I can sneak a comment here and there during Lunch Breaks, but they should definetly match us up for the UFC 87 analysis…we can each pick a fighter on every fight and break it down. I would love to go head to head with you my friend!

I do business Ops for a large staffing/temporary employment agency. It sounds much more important than it really is and I’m not getting rich any time soon,( just so everyone knows i am not making up some fancy job). We sell franchises to over glorified sales reps….. I mean upstanding business owners, and i make sure they don’t do anything illegal while at the same time turn a profit.

Some days i wish I was an auditer. Its hard to explain. i coach owners on how they need to figure their billing in order to generate net profit. A lot of these people come from a sales background, but have little or zero employment /HR background. So sometimes they call with off the wall ideas on how to make a few extra bucks, and I get the pleasure of explaining what employment laws are and how they may make a little change now, but the fines and punishment outweigh the benefit. Its good for educational purposes, but sucks as a career.

VM is one of the guys on this site who actually gives an analysis to prop up his opinions. Thankfully, there aren’t very many people such as you who only critique on nothing save on how someone else chooses to spend their time. So Matt, in the opinion of most on this site, I would think YOU come across as the douchebag.

Thanks Chef!

And MATT, this douchebag LITERALLY gets paid GOOD money to blog on this site and then goes home to get a perfect 10.0 blowjob from my hot wife. Meanwhile, you post in your Grandparents basement as you wait for your next beasteality video to load so you can continue to man handle your little choad since you can’t find a single female to do so. SORRY stippers and prostitutes don;t count.

Also, I can’t remember any time I made a “wildman” claim saying that I can defeat a UFC fighter. That would just be silly. Instead I analyze who would beat who.

Ready buddy, here you go, I’ll break down a fight between ViolentMike and Wanderlei Silva for you:

Wanderlei Silva. What can be said about the Axe Murderer that hasn’t been said already. He gets paid to murder people in a cage. He looked a bit small for the LHW’s of the UFC when he fought Chuck Liddell, BUT then he fought Keith Jardine who is a solid sized LHW. Wanderlei beat him within inches of his life, or so it seemed. The Axe Murderer is back and here to stay!

ViolentMike is coming into the LHW fight very undersized at only 5’10" and 160 lbs and lacking ANY sort of pro MMA experience at all. That is probably why the odds makers opened this fight having the Violent One as a +1,000,000,000 underdog, and rightfully so.

I see the bell ringing, Wanderlei coming out the gate swinging and ViolentMike being put into a critical coma for 8 months.

Its a bit more fun analyzing two people that actually FIGHT FOR A LIVING!!!!!!!

I got 74 minutes and counting until my next blowjob. How long you got Matty?

You guys really think if Lesnar loses (which is a very big possibility) that UFC will throw him in the undercard or worse cut him?

by open24hrz on Jul 30, 2008 9:59 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nah, he’s hear to stay. If he get’s beat they’ll give him someone easier untill he gets a couple of wins. He’s just too big of a marketing dream to flush down the drain. Makes me wonder why they would give him Mir when they did…?

by Arnold on Jul 30, 2008 10:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He asked for that fight. And it was a bad match-up for Lesnar. Herring on the other hand is not fast enough, strong enough or good enough at submissions to pose a major problem for Lesnar.

by PW on Jul 30, 2008 10:32 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Keep in mind that he was pounding the crap out of Mir when he got knee-barred. He got caught, plain and simple, and that was against a VERY seasoned former champ. I think if he had played a cagier fight, rather than go into balls to the wall attack mode, he might have been able to take Mir. Herring is one tough SOB (haha Stone Cold WWE reference), and Brock will have to pound on him for a while to get the win, but I don’t think Herring has the tools to beat Brock. I’m looking forward to seeing a longer match so we can see Brock’s skill set. This card is pretty good, with GSP/Fitch, Huerta/Florian(probably fight of the night), and Brock/Heath. I’m excited.

by --utaptout-- on Jul 30, 2008 10:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Mazzaggatti didnt blow the fight, Lesnar would have probably won!

by john on Jul 30, 2008 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I really dont understand how you think Mazz blew the fight? Mir was never really in a lot of trouble… Mazz took a point away from Lesnar, but he got subbed a minute after that so why did it matter?

by brendan (on TheNEgation's case) on Jul 30, 2008 12:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yep just what i was gonna say. he had mir pinned tothe ground and was on his way to a victory before pornstache stood them back up.

by KitsuneX on Jul 30, 2008 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mir admitted that he was seeing stars! Maz blew the fight because only 1 hammerfist hitthe back of Mir’s head, that should have been the warning, but instead Maz stopped the fight, let Mir recoup and restarted the fight standing. Mir was another Hammerfist or 2 from being KTFO.

I am not much of a Brock fan, but I feel bad for him because I really believe he would have won that fight if it wasnt for Maz

frank mir looked unimpressive since his motorbike accident, i think ufc and many other people thought lesnar would win and then ufc could hype him up for having beaten a former ufc champ

by blakemore on Jul 30, 2008 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

how? he lost to a game brandon vera.. i will agree mir is unimpressive but really he never was impressive, he beat tank abbot, whats that mean kimbo gets a shot now?,and submitted tim sylvia but a bjj white belt could do that, and he CAUGHT brock with a LUCKY submission, you cant say that wasn’t all luck either, and brock was unexperienced and freaked out

they should put lesnar up against shane carwin next. find out which specimen has the more potnetial. they’re both newcomers to the sport so it wouldn’t be a mismatch. it’d be a good measure as to how good carwin is too.

by deuce 4 on Jul 30, 2008 10:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think he’ll get cut, but I can see the UFC somewhat hiding his terrible record somehow… that is, if he loses. It would seriously hurt the UFC’s cred to put big promo dollars behind a guy that’s 1-2.

by ARodOfIron on Jul 30, 2008 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock: You are one of a kind without a doubt..IMO in UFC87..keep the fight on the Mat.. If Heath connects with a Kick/knee..i don’t think your grill is built like Big Nog’s..shoot.. shoot..shoot. GnP.. scramble.. shoot..shoot. .shoot.. that is all you should be doing in this fight.. I know you want to fight the best, and you bring in tons of new fans to MMA..butto go 0-2 in the UFC..is suicide..that matter if you not like everyone else. Bottom line did you win or lose.

by PhilQNY on Jul 30, 2008 10:00 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If Lesnar fights the way he did with Mir, there is no way he will lose this fight. The only way he loses this fight is if he gets tentative, and Herring catches him with a few big shots.

by UFCAddict on Jul 30, 2008 10:07 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know, if he gets crazy with Heath he might catch a right hand upside the dome before it even gets to the ground. Herring ain’t afraid of anyone, I won’t be surprised if he goes after Brock like he did Kongo at the beginning of Rd1

by O damn he got caught on Jul 30, 2008 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hope you’re right and it’s a good fight. I’m just afraid that Heath will be worried about being taken down, and that will make him tentative… which will make it even easier for Brock.

by UFCAddict on Jul 30, 2008 10:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

did you hear what mir said about that shot of brocks though? i believe it was “i knew it was coming and i thought i could hit him before he got me but no way he’s fast”

by randy murders on Jul 30, 2008 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lesnar, Carwin and Velasquez are the future of the HWY division. IMHO that is why the UFC is willing to let guys like Arlovski and Sylvia go to other organizations. You’ve got to hand it to Brock, he’s not shying away from true competition.

Well this is “Step 1” of those bigger fights you’re mentioning.

by TheNegation on Jul 30, 2008 10:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The UFC needs to give all of them at least two more fights each that end in convincing wins to build them up. Then you’re looking at some massive PPV cards. When Dana can put together a HW fight between two guys who are massive and ripped instead of fat and sloppy and also at the top of the division he’ll really have something.

I agree. I think that’s why they haven’t had any of those three fight each other, yet. They’ll probably wait until two of them could fight for a #1 contender spot. It’s kind of too bad because any combination of those three would make a good fight right now.

I expect a severe beatdown for the crazy horse, what I think is funny is that heath doesn’t appear to be concerned at all. he should know better and watch the mir fight again, if mazzagatti hadn’t stopped the fight with that BS hit to the back of the head brock would have won in ten seconds. mir was done. and he is twice the fighter herring is..

It was not B.S. Mistakes happen when you are green to the sport. He made a mistake, got caught, and lost. Thats it. Get over it. No shots to the back of the head

by Dave on Jul 30, 2008 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think the ref saved Mir in his fight with Brock.. Brock was afe Hammer fists away from putting Mir out for the count.. Now.. those shots to the back of the head.. were a tad bit iffy.. Brock was n’t head Mir in the back of the head.. he was hitting Mir on the Side of the Head.. and as Brock is hammer fisting..Mir turns into to me.. which then he got caugh the back of the head.a warning atmost.. no way it should of been stopped.. point deducted and all that.. MAzzi..and Mir beat Brock at UFC80.

by PhilQNY on Jul 30, 2008 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yea the point deduction was a little much.. usually you get at least 1 warning, I thought that was pretty lame. Not that it mattered cause it didn’t go to a decision anyway.

by O damn he got caught on Jul 30, 2008 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yea that was lame. I dont get why there was no warning first? If your punching and the guy turns his head, why is that your fault?

by shamo84 on Jul 30, 2008 10:14 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know if he’d be afraid of him, but I don’t think Mir wins a rematch. He was giving him a TON of respect during the post-fight interview, and it almost seemed like he realized he may have gotten lucky. I mean no disrespect to Mir, but if Mazzagatti hadnt stopped the fight and allowed Mir to recover, Mir might still be in a coma.

by --utaptout-- on Jul 30, 2008 10:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

in my opinion lesnar, has no place in the heavyweight division. I mean by no fault of his own, the guy is a genetic freak. But i also feel he has to much of a strength and power advantage, and dana needs to go find a bunch of big dumb goons that brock can beat on in a super heavy division. That way brock can be a champ and be marketable, while also staying out of a division he has no reason to be in

by Dave on Jul 30, 2008 11:40 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dana can barely find enough legitimate HW fighters to fill the current HW division. Where the hell is he going to find a bunch of 300-pounders that aren’t fat slobs (besides Scumbag Shaw) to form a SHW division?

by --utaptout-- on Aug 2, 2008 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just don’t think this is a good fight for Lesnar. Heath Herring is a phenomenal fighter. He’s only been submitted once and TKO’d twice (not counting cuts or injuries) by Cro Cop and once by knees. I just think Lesnar is sub par in every category vs. the Crazy Horse.

Lesnar is still too big for MMA & the UFC. All that muscle mass kills his cardio. He needs to cut back on the weights a little and concentrate on not gasing from throwing 30 seconds of punches. Don’t get me wrong, he’s extremely entertaining to watch and has potential, but the Crazy Horse is in the upper echelon of the heavyweight class.

by DaneJa260 on Jul 30, 2008 10:14 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

what fight did you see last long enough to make that assumption

by Ro-J on Jul 30, 2008 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ok so the fight lasted 1:30 secs. Is that better? Lesnar’s punches fell short of what he could have potentially done. He cocks his fists back about a foot before he’s swinging down again.

Short & Lazy Punches =Fatigue= Muscle Mass + Lactic Acid

I guess its not a problem when your strategy is to win in the 1st Rd. or get submitted in the 1st Rd. He’s gonna have to cut that muscle mass if he ever wants to progress in the UFC.

Any more brain bustin’ questions?

by DaneJa260 on Jul 30, 2008 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He got submitted, he by no means gassed out. And with those "short & lazy " punches that were about a foot away made Mir see Flashes of white every time they touched him. Mir said that himself. You should probably watch him fight again and see if he gasses out before you make your scientific analysis. And how the heck does Short & Lazy Punches =Fatigue= Muscle Mass + Lactic Acid? That doesn’t even make sense.

by Psyqo78®™ on Jul 30, 2008 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It’s actually not a bad assumption, the more muscle mass you have the more oxygen your body needs to operate properly, while I would say Brock’s credentials/build make him the better wrestler Heath is still the more experienced more well rounded fighter. The longer this fight lasts the more it is to Herring’s advantage I think. Lesnar is still new to this so every minute that goes by is more time for him to make a mistake that Heath could possibly capatilize on. And Brock just has more to carry around, his body just eats up more energy to operate at peak performance. All just conjecture of course, not saying this is how it’s going to be for sure, thats just how I see it. I can’t wait for the fight either way.

by O damn he got caught on Jul 30, 2008 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think his cardio will be just fine. The guys a genetic freak, and is always in tip-top shape. He’s a world class amateur wrestler, and that in itself says good cardio. I know it may not seem relevant, but those long WWE matches are tough too. Those guys have to be in phenomenal shape for that too. I’d predict Heath gassing before Brock does.

by --utaptout-- on Jul 30, 2008 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lesnar is a freak. He’s already cut muscle mass compared to his WWE build. He’s looking more like he did back when he was wrecking the NCAA. Plus, he does the same training that Sean Sherk does. Lesnar’s muscle endurance and cardio are just fine.

by Pat on Jul 30, 2008 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dude he didn’t cut muscle mass, thats what happens when you come of the roids.

by ruan-fiy on Jul 30, 2008 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Since when did cardio come into play in the HW division. Plus he’s a wrestler – what wrestler doesn’t have decent cardio for their size. Granted I think Brock still needs some training but if Josh Koscheck can improve into becoming a decent mma fighter than so can Brock.

-Chris

Well Lesnar really isn’t like anybody else! He’s a mutant! So unique that his genetic structure isn’t aligned like that of any fighter in the industry real time! Freaks are indeed 1 in a million!

by TheNegation on Jul 30, 2008 10:16 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I just watched the Mir fight again the other day and he made Mir look like a little kid in size… Crazy. Lesnar just needs to stay a little more composed this time, get the takedown and GnP’s Herring for a TKO.

by BNF on Jul 30, 2008 10:32 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Composer is exactly what he needs. I think his brain goes 100 miles an hour like he does. I really want Lesnar to do good.

by mrfancypants on Jul 30, 2008 10:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Excellent point. However, Herring has shown alot of improvement since that fight.

If Brock can get to him early, the advantage is to Brock.

If Herring prolongs the fight, its his to lose.

I base this on the fact that Brock’s cardio has not been tested in MMA.

by OJR on Jul 30, 2008 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What little I saw of Brock against Mir impressed me tremendously. Yeah he got caught but he’s still very new to the game and that happens. Plus Mir is an elite BJJ artist. I think though if Brock loses this fight the UFC will restructure his contract so he’s not getting so much money. I believe the UFC puts that in a lot of contracts where if a high profile fighter loses two in a row the UFC has the right to lower their purse amount.

by Tigerfansince84 on Jul 30, 2008 10:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

With the TUF guys they have a contract stating the UFC can terminate their employment if they don’t perform. Not that I think that would happen with Brock.

by O damn he got caught on Jul 30, 2008 10:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like him! im gutted he lost to Mir as he looked a beast and was doing well. this isnt a easy fight but he is favorite? Crazy Horse is decent odds. This is what a Heavyweight of the world should look like! so thats why i want him to keep winning and get the title if possible.

Lesnar is shit, i didn’t see any talent in either of his fights. He talks alot for some1 who has not had a amutuer fight and is 1-1 in his record. I wonder what part of Herring’s body he’ll be tapping cos he looked good slapping Mir’s ass.

by ruan-fiy on Jul 30, 2008 10:38 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If there is one thing I’d NEVER put money on, its Herring tapping Brock. Not to say he can’t beat him(although I doubt he will), just not by submission.

by --utaptout-- on Jul 30, 2008 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

and i think i’ve only seen heath submit guys with RNC who were already down on all fours and it still looked sloppy as hell.

Heath wants to keep it on the feet, and Brock wants to take it down to the mat. Both of them will just want to SMASH the other guy’s face in. One of their faces is going to look f’d up after the fight. I’m betting that Heath’s will.

Hahahahaha … Brock Lesnar is the biggest UFC blunder yet. Herring is going to KO Lesnar. Lesnar’s chin has never been tested and I hear Herring is the most fit he’s ever been. I’m sorry but Herring is not going to stomp on the ground to make loud sounds when he punches. He is going to straight knock Lesnar out and leave him in the undercards or maybe the freakshow where Lesnar belongs.

by doomdoom on Jul 30, 2008 1:25 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think this is a pretty good prediction. If Lesnar gets the mount its gonna be hard for him to G&P w/o putting one of his arms or hands down on the mat. Lesnar is just to big and its gonna be hard for him to hold himself up and G&P. This may just leave an opportunity for the Crazy Horse. The omaplata and gogoplata are probably the best chance for Herring to get a submission on his back. Lesnar will muscle through any triangles or armbars. I doubt Herring can even get his legs around Lesnar’s upperbody for a triangle. Haha.

by DaneJa260 on Jul 30, 2008 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the fight will go like this: heath will throw slow, hard punches until he’s taken down and pounded out, he will then stand up and protest and early stoppage and tell joe rogan “if this were a wrestling match, brock won. i though this was MMA. i though we were sposed tuh fight, not wrestle.”
