155 lbs.: Manny Gamburyan (8-2) vs. Rob Emerson (7-6) is on main card
by mma maniac on Jul 30, 2008 9:19 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
You’re certainly very welcome MMAMania for all the info here…WEll definitely, Gamburyan will take this one. And so are the following:
-“Brute” Brock
-Roger “The LAtino HEat” Huerta
-Ben “Berserker BArrage” Saunders
-I just don’t know how to call the Maia-McDonald fight. Both for me, have the tools to beat each other. I just don’t know who will screw who…Any thoughts on this folks?
by TheNegation on Jul 30, 2008 9:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Maia has vastly superior BJJ. I don’t think J-Mac or Da Aflete or whatever MacDonald calls himself is dangerous enough with his striking to threaten Maia on the feet. I’m going to call it Maia in round two by some sort of unusual choke, something other than a RNC or guillotine.
by PW on Jul 30, 2008 10:23 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Absolutely Maia’s BJJ is lightyears beyond J-Mac’s and he is no slouch on the ground. Watching the last MFC event they interviewed MacDonald and he said he predicts that they fight will end by 1st round KO. However, he didn’t say WHO would win, lol.
Mac is going to try and keep it standing but Damien will get him down and submit him.
There is 3 SOLID fights on this card. That can’t be said for all of thier events. But when it comes to second tier matchups, this event falls short.
by ViolentMike on Jul 30, 2008 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
what ruins this event for me is that Manny “the british prostitute” will be televised! What a joke! I would much rather see the Cheik Kongo fight, or the Ben Sauders fight, even the Cummo/barn cat fight. Any of these fights will be better than manny vs. the “orange County homo thug” Rob Emerson!
by john on Jul 30, 2008 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I dont want to see many fight on televised pay per view cards, especially in a fight where he is the favorite!
I would much rather see:
Kongo fight
Gusmao fight
Commo/barncat fight
and the Ben Saunders fight!
by john on Jul 30, 2008 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
correction: I dont want to see Manny “the british prostitute” ever fighting on a pay per view main card in a fight where he is the favorite!
by john on Jul 30, 2008 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
VM, don’t you think there are 4 solid fights on the main card? The only bad one is Manny/Emerson, but even then Manny is my new favorite guy to hate so at least I can cheer for Emerson to hurt him, bad.
There is no way MacDonald wins this fight. He will be totally outclassed where ever this fight goes. I have also noticed that he has no heart. He basically gave up agaisn’t Franklin. I think he can be broken very easily. And how good could his BJJ be, he was submitted by Patrick Cote! Someone with Maia’s level of BJJ will have MacDonald tapping real quick.
by BNF on Jul 30, 2008 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would rather see the Barn Cat’s fight with cummo, that has a chance of being fight of the night. Kenflo and Huerta will probably get it.
by Ro-J on Jul 30, 2008 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
bNF: u r just now noticing that J-mac has NO HEART? thats why I have been calling him “the talented Fairy for months now”!

Manny Gamburyan (8-2) vs. Rob Emerson (7-6) televised? wow the UFC is getting desperate!
by brendan (on TheNEgation's case) on Jul 30, 2008 11:52 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
This fight is to justify more TUF series. And LOL at The Talented Fairy. Thirdly, I propose that Emerson be known as “Tha OG from tha OC.” Also, if British Prostitute rips one of OG’s limbs off then he may get to pass his nickname to Jesse Taylor.

BNF, regarding your question about the number of solid fights… You go on to answer the question in your very next paragraph – I don’t have MacDonald/Maia on my list, because MacDonald is fighting…
by ViolentMike on Jul 30, 2008 12:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I guess I just enjoy a good old fashion beating sometimes…
by BNF on Jul 30, 2008 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
What is this "the british prostitute" where did this come from I’m guessing it’s a funny story. Can someone explain to me……………
by TKO on Jul 30, 2008 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Because of his M.O. of humping his opponents until the bell on TUF 5, Manny Gamburyan was given the nickname “British Prostitute” because he gets on top of people and moves around just enough not to get stood back up but not enough to finish the job. Like a British prostitute.

Id rather see Wilson or Kongo.

I hope Dana sends the loser of that fight packing. Actually, I hope he sends both of them packing. I hereby propose that Rob Emerson, in light of his participation in 10-on-2 beatings, be henceforth nicknamed Tha OG From Tha OC.
by PW on Jul 30, 2008 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Manny has looked good since TUF. He rips people’s limbs off. Emerson should be an EASY fight for Manny, that is, as long as Manny is injury free.
This is a fight that I’d like to bet a decent chunk of change on because if they are both 100%, Emerson doesn’t even have a puncher’s chance. However, Manny and his fragile collar bone are a big question going into every single one of his fights, which scares me away from betting a good amount on him.
I do have him in a parlay that I placed a while back. I got him at -280 and I got Maia at -200!!!!!!! A few days later Maia was up to -300. If anyone else is interested, GSP is the 3rd guy on that parlay and I got it paying out at about 1.7 to 1
by ViolentMike on Jul 30, 2008 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Emerson didnt do too bad for not having a punchers chance lol

My Bets…
Fitch – Brock – Kenny – Manny – MacDonald
Fitch haters jump on board, but you need to re-check the odds. I’d still do dollar for dollar on Fitch but with his odds I’ll risk a little more.
I’d say Brock has the most risk due to his odds unless you bet on GSP…
by Arnold on Jul 30, 2008 10:18 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Wow Arnold, I have almost the complete opposite.
GSP – not sure but prob HH – Kenny – Manny (even though I hate the dude) – Maia
Does anyone know a site where you can bet parlays? I wanna throw some cash on GSP – Kenny – Maia.

Kenny Florian (9-3) vs. Roger Huerta (20-1-1) Kenny

by TKO on Jul 30, 2008 10:33 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
You’re right about Kongo. He’d better be a lot more improved by now, or else!!
As for Ken-Flo, I just feel that Huerta will be able to withstand every trick on the book. He’s fight some pretty tough BJJ guys and he’s handled himself pretty well on the ground against them. So I don’t think any of Kenny’s tricks would surprise Huerta. Huerta via TKO![strikes]

QUOTE BY ROGER HUERTA IN AN ATTEMPT TO CLARIFY HIS CONTROVERSIAL COMMENTS*****:
“The misconception is, and the thing that people are getting wrong, is that (I realize) I’m blessed I was part of the UFC and I’m blessed with what they’ve done for me. I wouldn’t be in the situation I’m in if it weren’t for them. They’ve done so much for the sport. They’re the guys in the forefront, sanctioning MMA and showing everybody what we’re like as MMA fighters and that we’re professional athletes, too. I am surprised so many people are going for Huerta. I do not think Huerta stands a chance. I think Ken Flo is was to well rounded with his Muay Thai and BJJ seriously outclassing Huertas. The only place I see Huerta with any advantage is the wrestling and lets be honest, As small as Flo is he took Sherk all the way. He hurt Sherk througout the fight, on a few occasions. That wresling advantage I think diminishes seriously once Huerta gets a few clean elbows to the dome. I think Ken Flo wins this fight by the end of the second round. Kenny Florian will prove to be way to gifted for Huerta.

kongo should have won that fight he was robbed! I re-watched that fight luike 10 times and it was a terrible decision that still bothers me to this day!
Hearing only won about 4 out of th 15 minutes of that fight…check the tape and look atthe time and you will see that it was a terrible decision!
Then again, Kongo had the worst gameplan possible for that fight, so I guess he got what he deserved!

Don’t worry Manny’s fight are usually over in the midway of the first round with a submission. it will take little time and have ample time to watch the undercards. I personally like the little tazmaian devil. He is full of energy maybe he has ADHD or something.

That was a one-sided beating. I don’t even think Herring threw a punch. I would have liked for Brock to get the finish, but he’s still really new at MMA and Herring is one tough sumbitch.

QUOTE BY ROGER HUERTA IN AN ATTEMPT TO CLARIFY HIS CONTROVERSIAL COMMENTS*****:
"The misconception is, and the thing that people are getting wrong, is that (I realize) I’m blessed I was part of the UFC and I’m blessed with what they’ve done for me. I wouldn’t be in the situation I’m in if it weren’t for them. They’ve done so much for the sport. Lesner is a joke. He failed to fight tonight all he did was lay on Heath what a waste of money ordering this ppv with him in it. I quess DANA is going as low as VINCE. Lesner doesn’t belong in the UFC. It is called the UFC for a reason and he is not a fighter he is a joke. So maybe DANA is not as smart as he thinks he is. All Lesner showed us tonight is how to lay on someone for 15 min. Big deal. He also show poor sportsmanship at the end of the match. Hopefully he won’t be around long.

so true. it was only his 3rd pro fight! and he dominated a top 10 guy. when this fight was 1rst announced people said dana was throwing brock to the wolves. brock just needs to work on finishing fights ( that will come, i guarantee it) and he will be close too unstopable.

I really don’t like Lesnar. I mean, we started off poorly when he starts using the royal “we”, but he’s just annoying. doing dumb crap at the end of the fight. GSP completely tooled Fitch everywhere. GSP took him down right away just to let Fitch know he couldn’t out-wrestle him. Then GSP beat the crap out of Fitch standing up. Complete domination of that dry-humping loser.

Speaking of impressive, Fitch impressed the hell out of me with his heart and his chin. There is NO quit in the boy. No other WW could take that much punishment and still be fighting. I did think it was going to be a one sided fight, but I thought GSP would finish him. GSP tried like a mo fo, but Fitch just wouldn’t stay down. Next to GSP, NOBODY beats Fitch at WW. What makes it even more impressive, is it looked like GSP has improved his punching power. GSP hit him with everything but the kitchen sink and he still came forward. Fitch is one TOUGH S.O.B. All in all, a great night of fights.

Brock was disrespectful but I dont think that it was him as a person. I think that he got a lot of crap for going into MMA and Heath smiled in his face constantly and said he was one dimensional. These MMA guys had no respect for Brock because of his immediate superstar status. He got pumped. Plain and simple. He will learn from it and I am pretty sure that he just got ahead of himself. He did a good job and he has great stand up. He still has much work to do in professionalism, BJJ, stand up (he should develop it, there is a lot of potential) and cardio. I say cardio because if he continues to grow, he could get a 5 round title shot.

I am very dissappointed in what I just saw Broc Lesner is the most disrespectful fighter I have ever seen. I have never seen someone in the UFC be so disrespectful to anouther fighter after a match! This is not the WWE and that is why we watch. All the fighters give there respect after a fight how dare he be so disrespectful to the texas crazy horse or any fighter for that matter. The texas crazy horse may have lost but deserves respect for the beating he indured all the way to the end. Damn you must have not been watching UFC or MMA very long then huh lol. I dont think that was nearly as disrespectful as some of them I saw, mainly the Ortiz/Shamrock deal. Dude get over it. Brock won, he is the better man, there was no way in hell Herring had a chance. I mean, look at all of the trash talking that Herring was doing before the match. When you win on this stage at this magnitude and it is one of your first wins against a truly credible opponent then that is probably how anyone would act. So much adrenaline is pumping that you cant help it….. Anthony

Maybe, but I want to vomit every time a fighter starts the love fest after a win. You talk trash before a fight, then say it was just to hype the fight? Enough with the over the top patronizing already. Fight, win, show a little respect, then move on.

I know it was a little over the top. But he has got it out of his system now. His fist real win inside of the octagon, let him celebrate a little. Now if he does it the next time, different story. But I highly doubt he will, he has class but was just to excited after his first win that is all…. Anthony

Brock had an impressive win, and looked like a beast. Hopefully someone will tell Brock to act more professional at the after fight press conference. I think the adrenaline may have gotten to him, but he did look a bit like a dick. GSP basically wiped the floor with Fitch, and then got on his knees and bowed to him when it was over. Hopefully Brock was taking notes.

Umm, this dude does not have class. All of his pre-fight comments are disrespecting. He refers to himself in the 3rd person, he complains that he actually won against MURR, and he has not skill just raw power and speed (which will probably be enough). For the life of me I haven’t seen him act classy towards anyone.

Lesnar is a monster. I don’t see any heavyweights who can give him any trouble if he fights like this every fight. The only thing I seen him lack in was submission skills, seeing as how he had his back numerous times and chose to ride him like a bull at the end of the fight :)

Whoa Keystone, chill the hostility. What I am saying, the guy is young in the sport. When you were younger in a sport, if you played any, and you won, what you did, you celebrated. Now, fast forward a couple of years and put yourself in a high adrenaline situation, fighting for your life and you beat someone, you get over the hump of not winning with so much counting on you with the enourmous contract you have recieved and you are expected to win. I would celebrate my ass off people lol. This will be the only time he does it beleive me. After this he will humble himself and will turn into what we want as a champion. And Thorazine, rewatch the vids onm here from Herring and rewatch the preview show for the fight. He was talking shit, about how big his head was and all that. Listen you all, this is fighting, this is a super charged high adrenaline situation, immediately afterwards it is like a ton of bricks lifted off of your shoulders after you have won. ANyone who fights knows what I am talking about. SOme people react differently then others with their first big win. He did just that, after this if he does the same thing then I am on yalls side but as of now, until I see him do it again then this is a pass for him. Now, take Tito and him being at the point in his career that he was in, and then you see someone with no class at all. What he has done repeatedly with every win is act like an ass afterwards. But again this is adrenaline acting at first and then win he used his head instead of adrenaline he apologized to Ken afterwards and told him he looked up to him. You will see a different Brock next time, watch and see…. Anthony

UFC 87 was great. It was one of my favourite cards of all time. GSP-What can you say?. The guys phenominal. I’ve become a Jon Fitch fan – talk about guts (and fantastic sportmanship as well). Lesnar showed that he has the potential to be a champion some day. Florian’s diversibility was the key to beating Huerta. Huerta needs to diversify his striking a bit – he seems to be flat footed a lot. IMHO this was the best card of the year so far. BJ Penn should be made to defend his lightweight belt at least once before he fights GSP. Who’s next for GSP?

I will say this, I hope B.J. is next for GSP, because I want to see GSP finish B.J. and finally put him behind him. I know some people think that B.J. will win, but I just don’t see it. Some people may read a few of my old posts and just think that I hate on B.J., but that is not the case. He is very skilled, and dominant at 155. I just think that GSP has a lot more tools at his disposal than B.J. does.
by naturalshadow on Aug 10, 2008 2:21 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
GSP does have more tools than BJ, BUT what BJ has that GSP doesn’t is the ability to take hard punches and not be fazed or cut. GSP will just have to stick n’ move, takedown BJ and GnP him… for the decision. If GSP stands with BJ for long he’ll put GSP to sleep. I see GSP winning this fight much like the 1st one.

I, too, am disgusted by Lesnar’s behavior after the match.
The general posturing and sneering at Heath was bad enough, but when he dropped his shorts, whipped out his tallywhacker and whizzed all over Heath’s cornerman while chanting “A herring is a fish!” in that sing-songy voice of his, that was truly offensive.
(lighten up, people. when Lesnar does lose again—it’s MMA, it will happen—you can use this to increase your joy over his misery. it’s the same reason Manvil getting ktfo was fight of the night for me)

Brock is what this boring ass hw division needs. I love it.
He seriously can’t put anyone in a choke though. His arms are too big. If he can learn to turn some submissions from having guys backs like he did with heath, he will be unbeatable. Get used to what you saw tonight. It will be the norm. Who is going to beat this guy? Mir got lucky. Lesnar’s mistake lost him the fight. If they fought 10 more times, Lesnar is 10-0.
He will never be the best hw in the world, but he will be the biggest and strongest and that’s why he’ll win.

I didn’t expect GSP to dominate the way he did, crazy skills. Fitch can take a beating though, lots of heart. One thing I’ll mention, others can comment on this, GSP doesn’t seem to have that killer finishing instinct he used to have. He rocked Fitch several times but didn’t go in for the kill. I think sometimes he gives his opponent a little too much respect when he has them hurt. I’m a huge fan though, glad he won and shut some of his haters up.

maia – i think jmac earned his black belt tonight.
kongo – dayam! i have never seen anybody get rocked and dropped that hard by a JAB!! seriously… a JAB!!
lesnar – i felt so sorry for herring. did you see his face?!! when herring was walking over to shake his hand, lesnar points at him and laughs at him?!!! hellllla disrespectful!!!! people at the bar was booooing him HARD! no class.
GSP – he looked pissed off. he even landed that spinning backfist! wouldn’t call it fight of the year because it was TOTAL and UTTER domination.

well said. brock just needs to learn some submissions and have a little more experience, it was only his 3rd fight and people are all over him. cant see where gsp/fitch was fight of the year either, it was too one-sided. maybee fitch won rnd 2,but gsp won 1,3,4,5 and i think the judges gave gsp 1 and 3 by 10-8. fitch is a tough dude, but just not at the same skill level as georges, and gsp is 3 years younger. now for sure some of those aka guys are gonna have to fight 1 another. and manny got ktfo! what a perfect night.

to get a win THAT dominant 8-0 Fitch is amazing. I was yelling at the TV for fitch to put GSP on his back!! He didn’t look so hot on his back but got up quickly. fitch was getting rocked and wobbled hard standing. GSP was so crisp with his strikes even in the later rounds. The only thing I was dissapointed with out of this awesome card was Florian running in the 3rd round not wanting anything to do with Huerta, and Lesnar when he had Herring on the ground for 3 rounds and did nothing. I know he’s still new to the sport but damn I expected at least a little something more you know? Oh well, Herring’s face looked like chewed bubble gum so that made up for it. Overall I give this event a A-. I think fight of the night should go to GSP-Fitch. Sub of the night-Maia. KO of the night-Emerson. Unless there was some awesome undercard action I missed.

SO, Overall tonight was a great night of fights. Lesnar Manhandled Herring the whole fight, and Herring couldn’t stop him becuase of his power, In my eye’s Lesnar is the next champ, and stand up guy like Kongo, will get destroyed, Mir would get manhadled agian, and I think if he fought nog, Nog wouldn’t get lucky with a sub and get KTFO, I loved Huerta from the starting, But latley I’ve disliked him for his Money comments. Kenny I hated the whole time on tuff, But as soon as he droped to 155, I’ve loved the dude and his Technique and how he capitalizes in all his fights, the only fighter i would bet against him with is Penn. And Lastly, I wanted Fitch to win so badly, but Gsp looked incredible, his standup is insane and his power surprised me, the only fighter i would bet agianst him with is Kos in a rematch, and thats becuase I love that dude. He just needs to use his wrestling in the 2nd fight, and he’ll deff be able to take GSP down. Over all Great night of fights, I’m a Gsp fan now, unless agianst Kos, and Lesnar is a Bear, and Fitch has Mad Heart.

My thoughts tonight…
Florian v Huerta – Huerta has great heart, is tough as nails, but needs a better game plan and needs to fight smarter. Florian is talented but not the killer he claims to be. He was back-pedaling for most of the last two rounds (even though he was getting the better of the striking).
Lesnar v Herring – Herring is tough. Lesnar is a beast and then some. As long as he learns good submission defense, no one will beat him. The taunting was uncalled for, but for some reason, I don’t mind that much. He put on a great show.
GSP v Fitch – GSP impressed the heck out of me. He is levels above what I thought he was. I seriously think he could challenge Silva at 185. Fitch is a great fighter, but was outclassed.
Overall, a great night of fights. Go UFC!!!

RESULTS FROM FAKE BETTING CONTEST
Notes: This is the fake money you would have walked away with, meaning whatever portion of the $1000 you didn’t lose plus your winnings. UFCAddict, you had to bet a min $200 on each fighter so I took $100 on Ken-Flo and put it on GSP so you met the rules. Down the list through "BNF" called all three winners correctly. The biggest return on your money for the winners was Ken-Flo so putting the most money on this fight gave me and UFC Addict the lead. Lesnar just got excited. He made a mistake. Get over it. All of the top MMA fighters smiled and dismissed him as an inexperienced one dimensional fighter that would give them easy access to title contention. Brock Lesnar will learn from this. Trust me. He was just excited to prove people wrong guys. Give him some slack.

Hey I was on his side in every post until this one. It’s easy to dislike the big guy and think he’s a bully. I gave Brock a chance and he acted like a jerk. I hope it was just a bad attempt to make himself marketable. If I was Dana, I’d have a talk with him. Heath didn’t deserve that BS.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Aug 10, 2008 2:29 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree that his actions were dispicable (sp?) but I think that due to the circumstances, he deserves to get a pass just this once. I respect Heath for enduring that beat down. He is a survivor.

all i can say really is WOW!! this was one of the best ufc cards i’ve seen this year i think. all the fights were exciting and i was on the edge of my seat the entire night.
Huerta showed that he has a lot of holes in his game that he needs to work on. Like, Kenny said, this loss will be better for him in the long run.
Brock answered a few questions that were raised prior to this fight. He showed he doesn’t have a cardio problem. even after those 3 rounds he looked like he could have gone another 2 no problem. He looked a LOT more composed this time around. he wasn’t throwing wild strikes, he was patient and really picking his shots. He learned from last time and looked overly cautious not strike the back of the head. He even looked decent in his stand up, just that one punch at the beginning bowled over Herring.
i can’t see how you could say he was “laying and praying”. he was throwing shots while on top. He was just too big to get hooks in while on Heath’s back, so he had to resort to side control. He looked like a BEAST out there. Of course no matter how well he does there are always going to be haters on this site looking for any excuse to bring him down. regardless, i’m excited to see his next fight.

Are you kidding me it wasnt that good
10 fight card 6 UD………… Lesnar had dominant positions over and over and was content with just controlling position and riding the clock real exciting MArgliota is officially the worst ref in the history of MMA I wish Herring would have sucker punched him
Huerta/ florial didnt live up to even half of the prefight expectations florian showing us his machida impersonation how the hell does huerta not even get awarded one round when he was the agressor the whole fight
Maia and GSP fights saved this card from being a complete dissapointment

am i the only one here who wasn’t impressed by lesnar dry humping and occasionally kneeing heath herring on his way to a win? Big Nog would submit him just like frank mir did probably and any other submission specialist heavyweight would too most likely
by Phil on Aug 10, 2008 2:34 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Like who? theres only mir and Nog, and Lesnar is still learning, he’d beat anyone else, Let him fight Kongo lol, and Destroy him, give him a year and He’d bead Nog easy, Nog couldn’t get a sub on lesnar, lesanr only got subed on mir cuase he rushed everything and got over exited. Herring is experienced and didn’t have any answers for his strength and ground conrol.
by Chase on Aug 10, 2008 2:37 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The only person to ever beat nog easily was fedor and lesnar is no fedor. it won’t happen most likely but barnett could probly sub lesnar too
by Phil on Aug 10, 2008 2:41 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It doesn’t matter your just a Lesnar hater, Nog isn’t good, Herring should have beat him the 3rd time, but he fought dumb, lesnar could stand with nog and KHTFO, or take him to the ground and control him. If Nog beats mir, i wont be inpressed, Mir isn’t good, he got lucky with lesnar. Nog won’t get luck with Lesnar, He learned his mistake, and he’s to powerful for nogs old ass, it will be like Hughes fighting Royce hah.
by Chase on Aug 10, 2008 2:49 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes, I hate Lesnar. I will readily admit that bc hes a brain dead wrestler with no skill whatsoever who can just bully his way to wins bc hes a genetic freak. I don’t like fighers like that. And how the hell can you say that Nog isnt good? Have you ever watched mma before yesterday night or are you just a huge wwe fanboy?

by kitsunex on Aug 10, 2008 2:43 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i saw lesnar hit him with one big shot then hump herring for most of the other 14 minutes 50 seconds. and he threw a knee every now and then. then showed no class whatsoever after the fight. i wasnt impressed at all, not trying to rip the guy bc i know hes new to the sport but he hardly even threw any punches from the top
by Phil on Aug 10, 2008 2:53 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I was bored out of my mind with Lesnar. It was like a guy who doesn’t know how to drive a ferrari—painful. He did nothing but roll around. One solid punch, and a couple of knees, but they were all SCARY! He certainly has no skill, but with that kind of raw strength and power, look out. I’d be nervous if I were Nog. With some experience and more training, he’s going to be really hard to beat. Shane Carwin would be a fun match. I think Shane is a bit more of a natural fighter than Brock.
by dave on Aug 10, 2008 2:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Kongo likewise. He just looks awkward and goofy. And scary, but what’s with his giant pecs? Don’t those things get in the way? That can’t be natural.

by JV on Aug 10, 2008 3:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
uhhhh dude, lets remember this was his 3rd MMA fight EVER against a veteran of some 45 odd fights and he whooped his ass! Lesnar is the real deal and I see him only getting better with each fight.

by Joe Smith on Aug 10, 2008 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He doesn’t get to throw many punches. He threw one punch at Mir, it landed and dropped Mir. He threw one punch at Herring, it landed and sent Herring ass over tea kettle.

Heath blocked one of Brocks take downs. Did anyone see else notice that? That was impressive. It was also pretty cool how Brock used his stand up. That first punch was UNBELIEVABLE! I was on my feet so quickly. Brock Lesnar is going to make the UFC heavyweight division so exciting. Heath Herring deserves respect for surviving the onslaught from Lesnar. Brock needs to continue working on becoming well rounded and he will be able to dominate. He also needs to work on his sportsmanship. It was stupid for him to do so, but I haven’t lost respect for him. He just got excited about his first octagon win.
by RyanHobbs on Aug 10, 2008 2:53 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’d like to see a Super-Heavyweight division. He’s a mismatch for most of the UFCs heavyweights. I think he’ll force a lot of HWs to cut to LHW.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Aug 10, 2008 2:57 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Fortunately, the top HWs (Nog, Carwin, Velasquez and others) are too big to cut to 205. And since they have enough trouble just getting quality legit HWs, a SHW division is out of the question. It would just be Brock beating the crap out of fat useless guys like Butterbean and Sapp.

GSP! WOW!!! How good is GSP! Where are all the Penn lovers now? Like I said, Penn would get destroyed worse!!! If I could ask Fitch one question: “Is GSP still scared to get knocked out???”
I said Lesnar was a beast, DAM! Herring looked nasty! hey Kevin, Brock not only beat experience but he, DESTROYED, DEMOLISHED, or like Rampage says PETER ROLLED experience!!!
Florian pulled a (Machida) for some reason? And Huerta looked like he wasnt even interested? I dont know what happened in that fight but, the finisher was running, and the matador didnt want to k*ll???
Manny should try 145 thats all I can say!
Kongo is not that impressive IMO. And now he wants a title shot?

Wow…GSP was incredible. I’m glad that it was Yves Lavigne that was reffing because I think another ref may have stopped the fight pre-maturely in the first round after Fitch got rocked. Fitch did a great job proving me wrong becuase I had GSP winning via 2nd round TKO. I think if you put Kos’ amazing guard with Fitch’s incredible jaw you may have a guy that could almost come close to giving GSP a good fight…hahaha. After seeing this fight, I can’t believe Penn still wants to fight GSP. I don’t think Penn is that tough. I’ve had Fitch as one of my 5 favorite fighters for a while, but he really impressed me.
Also, it was crazy to see GSP land every single flasy move there is from the spinning back kick, to the superman punch to the Shonie Carter special spinning back fist.
Although I give credit to those who predicted GSP would win by decision, I don’t think that anyone who thought it would go to a decision thought it would be anything like this. There were a few times at the end of the third where it looked like every shot GSP was landing was leaving Fitch rocked. He looked like he wanted to quit but I give him credit for hanging in. I thought it was a great event.
Props to Maia, Ken-Flo, and Brock. I think Brock has a lot of room for improvement but his freakish strength along with a few favorable matchups could buy him enough time to improve his skills to where his game could be a lot more air tight.

WOW…UFC 87 was easily the best card of the year so far!
GSP proved why he is one of the best fighters in the world. He completely dominated Fitch in every aspect of MMA. Fitch was a helluva warrior though. Looking forward to GSP vs. Penn II baby!
Brock Lesnar completely DESTROYED Herring tonight. Man, that first punch was v-i-c-i-o-u-s! Once this guy gets more experience, there will be no HW that can stop him. Period. As far as everyone saying he didn’t have class after the fight…PLEASE…he was excited and was caught up in the moment. I think that what Herrring said in the pre-fight comments was far more disrespectful. When he said “he’s fought stronger, more accomplished wrestlers”….ahhh…what about tonight Health…you got your ass kicked!!!
Huerta vs. Florian was good, by I was irritated how Kenflow was just trying to win the fight technically instead of putting on a good show. Huerta just played into his gameplan. Still, a good fight.
Maia vs. Mcdonald was freaking sick!! That back and forth submission attempts by both fighters in round 1 was awesome!
Man, I love the UFC! There is nothing better to watch!

Thank you Fanatic, this is exactly what I have been trying to convey here about Brock. I was merely acting as a rookie caught up in the moment of winning his first big fight. Thats all it was. Herring talked much shit before hand and no one says anything about that or acknowledges that. I mean I far thought what Kongo did afterwards was for more disrespectful, because that wasnt against another fighter that was against basically the organization. They are trying to promote you act like you want to be here or deserve to be here and dont act like you dont need the UFC…. Anthony

Okay so I thought that Brock was rude at the end of the fight but I just watched the fight again and I have changed my mind. He began to celebrate during the last 10 seconds of the fight and Herring tried to take him out when he did so. When Herring wasn’t able to, he pointed and laughed as if to say that he hadn’t been able to rain on his parade. IMMEDIATELY after he did that, they did a half hug embrace with each other showing mutual respect. It was the heat of the moment and it wasn’t meant to belittle Heaths performance. I can see why people thought that he was disrespectful because I thought so too. But after re-watching the entire fight, I don’t see it that way at all. Brock did great and he deserves respect for beating a top 10 heavyweight in his 3rd ever MMA fight after 2 years of MMA training.
by RyanHobbs on Aug 10, 2008 4:29 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The only reason they did a half embrace was because Heath walked up to him to congratulate him. Brock had to do something, that’s when Brock probably really felt like a stupid ass. Then the whole Cowboy thing, way after he had initially won. PLEASE, that wasn’t the heat of the moment. It was well after the fight. He was trying to ham it up. I can’t stand that shit. One win is all it was, and he’s a weak top ten. Sure he’s fought the who’s who of heavies, but he’s been man-handled by most of them.
