Fabricio Werdum guaranteed title shot with UFC 90 win over Junior Dos Santos

I guess the UFC likes what they've seen from heavyweight Fabricio Werdum.
"Vai Cavalo" (11-3-1) has inked a five-fight contract extension with the UFC that includes a guaranteed title shot pending a victory at UFC 90 over potential opponent Junior Dos Santos (6-1).
"Cigano" would be making his UFC debut - which on paper seems like either punishment for Dos Santos - or a reward for Werdum. After debuting against Andrei Arlovski at UFC 70, the former PRIDE star was pitted against Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 80 and Brandon Vera at UFC 85.
He's certainly earned a chance to play the favorite.
Here's what Werdum had to say about his bout at UFC 90, courtesy of Tatame.com:
It’s my last fight under the old contract and with a victory, my first new contract’s fight will be for the title. I deserve that, I’m training hard for that, I wanna be UFC heavyweight champion. A final against Minotauro would be like a dream, it would be great for me, because I fought against him at Pride and it was a great fight, he deserved the victory, and I wanna say that [I'm] fighting for the belt against Minotauro, probably [in] March.
Werdum and Nogueira first battled at Critical Countdown Absolute back in July of 2006 for the chance to advance to the semifinals of the PRIDE 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix. "Minotauro" bested Werdum by unanimous decision in what was one of many outstanding fights that night.
However a rematch is contingent on not only Werdum, but also Nogueira, who makes his first UFC heavyweight title defense against Frank Mir at the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter 8. Nogueira and Mir are opposing coaches on the SpikeTV reality series and will likely lock horns on New Year’s Eve weekend.
A win by Nogueira puts him in line to rematch Werdum in Spring of 2009 - unless of course Junior Dos Santos has anything to say about it.

BIG BIG NEWS!!!!!!! Pay attention:
Rampage Fires Juanito, his condition is improving. He knows that he suffered a mental breakdown and is getting much better.
He is looking for new managers and trainers right now and is even eyeing a November return to the Octagon to face Wanderlei Silva!
THis is excellent news, much better than we could have hoped!

If Rampage trains with Greg Jackson there is no telling how good he will become.

oh please, everyone has been saying the same thing since he trained with Juanito.

Is it really great that he fired Juanito?
Either way, I can’t waut to see my boy Page back in action, hopefully against Wandy. Here’s to a full recovery, just hope he doesn’t push himself.

No, I dont like that he fired Juanito! the great news is that he is better and may fight wandy in November!

Did you guys read the SI article yesterday that Mania posted? How could you say you still like Juanito as his trainer after reading that article? It sounds like the best possible thing Rampage could do right now is fire his a$$!

I dont know about that, Rampage had never lost under Juanito until this last fight, which was basically a split decision anyways

I read about this yesterday, and there is a rumor that Juanito was possibly stealing money from Rampage too. Guess we’ll see what other details will emerge.

The UFC should do away with heavyweights or at least catchweight from 200 LBS. – 220 LBS so that we can see a fight between Nogera and say a Liddell (exsample) cause the heavyweights are kinda boring
by mikeybear on Jul 30, 2008 9:16 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Big Nog would rape Liddell.. Liddell should never be put into the same cage with Big Nog.. trust me on this one.
by PhilQNY on Jul 30, 2008 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
PhilQNY, I disagree cause Nog gets knocked around alot, then pulls of a submission. When was the last time you’ve seen Chuck submitted?
by JV on Jul 30, 2008 9:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
JV: Trust me when I tell you that Nog would beat Liddell about 7/20 times!
by john on Jul 30, 2008 10:00 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
JV, I love that you always try to defend Chuck around here. The fact is that most of these dudes are just haters and will never give him his props, especially when it comes to fights that we all know will never happen.
by BNF on Jul 30, 2008 10:25 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
JV, when did nog ever get KO’d? This is funny, I never seen it happened… He may have gotten rocked a few times, and the time you saw him getting rocked by Heath the last time they fought was the best anyone has ever, EVER gotten close to knocking him out, but it didn’t happen now did it? If Fedor, cro cop and barnett can’t do it, what makes you think chuck would be able to get a KO?
by linx on Jul 30, 2008 10:30 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Linx, JV never said that Chuck would KO Nog. He was simply saying that Chuck could definatly hang with Nog since he submitts people and when have you ever seen Chuck get submitted?
by BNF on Jul 30, 2008 10:37 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
but tell me, and hopefully your answer is not babalu or vitor belfort, when was the last time chuck ever fought a high talented BJJ practioner with the level of nog’s?
by linx on Jul 30, 2008 10:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
In order to apply BJJ he has to be taken down first. Chuck has an uncanny abilitly to avoid takedowns and if he is taken down he gets back up immediatly. I believe Randy has the best and most explosive takedowns in the business and Chuck was able to repeatedly stuff or get back up immediatly.
by BNF on Jul 30, 2008 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Chuck can avoiud the takedowns at 205, but Nog IMO, could definetly get him to the mat. Nog is HUGE!!!
Chuck is great, but other than Couture/Vitor and Overeem, I am not very impressed by his resume….
by john on Jul 30, 2008 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
OK BNF, you win, it is impossible to take chuck down and even more impossible to apply a submission and even more impossible for him to tap. It’s impossible and it will never happen, so I take it back, no one will submit chuck ever in his career!
Sarcasm aside, many wild stuff has happened in MMA that just puzzles us (such as lil nog getting knocked the F out!). so I wouldn’t say just because chuck fought a bunch of wrestlers and mid level bjj guys that there is just no way a HW champion who just happen to have the BEST BJJ game would not submit him… I mean, that’s just crazy to think that… there is a first time for everything my friend, I would actually be surprised if a fight between big nog/chuck went down without chuck being submitted. Just being honest :)
PS: Chuck has been taken down, kept down, and beaten down until his corner felt there would be no way for him to get away from the position he was getting r8ped by… guess who… rampage! So in fact chuck has been taken down, and beaten on the ground! So it wouldn’t be a first.

Look, there is no need to be sarcastic. I don’t want to take anything away from Nog. He is a great champion and I am very happy he is representing the UFC HW division. Crazy things happen all the time like Herring not finishing off Nog after he rocked him with that kick. He can be finished, just like Chuck can be submitted. I just don’t believe that Chuck would get “rapped” or “doesn’t belong in the same cage” as Nog.
by BNF on Jul 30, 2008 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
BNF, I’m sarcastic sometimes, I’m not trying to make your ideas seem f00lish at all, just my way of being, sorry if I sounded too engaging. But like you said, anything can happen, and I still would be surprised if chuck went the distance with big nog. He’s just too big and too talented.

Just got back on this thread and dam, didnt expect to see this. Thanks BNF, for clearing up what I said. I never said Chuck would KO Nog, but Im 100% sure he can make it a bada*s fight. I just dont get the hate for Chuck??? And maybe Im biased cause hes one of my favorite fighters. And Ill go ahead and say this, Nog as a champ sucks. A guy that gets beat on in his fights and then pulls of a sub is not a good champ. Couture beating Tim every round for 5 rounds, then beating on a big young guy in Gonzaga to retain his belt, THATS A CHAMP!

JV, it’s not his fault though, nog wanted to fight randy but randy ran always, what was he to do? and btw, nog will always win his fight against bigger ppl in this manner… might as well get used to it :)
BNF: I think I’m also biased (big surprise?) towards nog ‘cause he’s also one of my favs.
by linx on Jul 30, 2008 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
linx, I just cant stand that the same guys bashing Chuck now are the same ones that used to cheer for him back in the day. When that fighter gets a bit past his prime, then you hear Chuck cant do this, and Chuck cant do that, now hes called Chucky, Chuck is overrated, Chuck is a poster boy, Chuck is Danas boy and all other gay shit. THATS BEING A HATER RIGHT!!!
by JV on Jul 30, 2008 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Linx, I can say that I am absolutly biased towards Chuck because he is my favorite fighter. I am also a fan of Nog. With that said, JV, I think you should give him a chance. He just became the UFC champion so lets see how he preforms agaisn’t Mir.
by BNF on Jul 30, 2008 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
BNF, I just said that to be an a$$. Im not a fan of Nog but regardless of how he wins he does win. And Nog definatly has alot of heart, I can repect that. Think about this… Nog’s got wear & tear and when he starts loseing then people say he’s overrated and he’s sucks. Would that not get on your nerves? That the fans all of a sudden say hes overrated and call him Noggy.

linx, my reply to you is in moderation I guess???
by JV on Jul 30, 2008 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
JV, I at least can say I was never a fan of chuck, but I understand some ppl change boats frequently. That’s just not me though, take wandy for example, he lost three in a row and I never gave up on him. He’s still my favorite fighter, more so than any other. nog also lost twice to fedor and he’s still one of my favorites (but fedor is also one of my favorites so I guess that’s a wash).
by linx on Jul 30, 2008 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
shogun is another example, I know he can become champion of the LHW division, I won’t give up on him just because he lost to overhyped and overrated forrest (see, I just don’t change boats frequently LOL :) )

Deserving YES but only because the ufc heavyweight div is at a low point right now not to take any thing away from him but when you lose chances to get the likes of fedor let fighters go like AA ,vera drops to 205 monson welcome to the lolli pop guild, is to god damn short, mirco god damnit mirco why didnt you train with a cage and train for elbows.and you lose that pussy silvia your going to have a shortage of heavy weights to fight nog only other one i can think of is herring but kind of a ok seen this before fight 3 times even though i think it should have been stopped last time that was a beautiful head kick and he was out of it, hope mirco train wredum hard, and sends him to a good jits trainer he will need it

Wow that made even less sense than your first post!!!
If you can’t type in English as it is clearly not your first language then I suggest you find a blog in your native tongue of Mongolian.
Minotauro will take Mir and Werdum for sure but the Werdum fight will cleary be the closest of the two.
Mir’s jits is good but Im sorry he is not subbing Noguiera any time soon whereas Werdum is noticeably more aggressive since training at Chute Boxe and I could see him possibly pulling out the win if he’s on his A-game.
by Ca$z on Jul 30, 2008 5:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i persoally think he doesnt deserve a title shot even with a win
the ufc dont make any sense…. AA is an exciting fighter but then he meets with werdum who is basically not!
it was a dull fight but AA clearly won but they end up droppin him instead of werdum!
AA wins but goes on 2 have his last fight in the ufc againt o’brian
werdum losses but has fights against credible opponents such as gonzaga and vera
and the vera fight was a really bad stoppage!!!
its utter bulls**t
by ufcaddict on Jul 30, 2008 8:05 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
AA is out of the UFC because they didn’t want to pay him $750K for one fight. Affliction gave him $500K to fight an IFL fighter (albeit a good one), Ben Rothwell. And then they paid him $250K for the win. AA better hope that they pay him $800K to fight Fedor, because he’s not going to get any win bonus after that fight.

Very Happy that they signed WErduim. If thre HW division would have lost him it would have been a disaster.
when I first saw this thread I thought that it said that he was fighting dos Caras jr, what a joke that would have been! lol.
This wont be your typical #1 contender match up, but whatever. The division is a mess anyway. I mean lets be real, they are giving frank Mir a title shot (the most undeserving fighter possible). Mir is on a 2 fight winning streak against a bum like Hardonk and a guy (lesnar) who was 0-1 in mma at the time. I feel really boda for Nog8ueira, a true legend that came to the UFC to fight the best, but lacks opposition!
I really like Werdum as a fighter. Is Jits is about as good as it gets and moving to Chute Box was the smartest thing that he could have possibly done, because it has really showed in his much improved striking. Another reason I like WErdum is because he keeps getting better in every fight!
Werdum vs. Nogueira 1 was awesome, but the rematch in march should be much better because Werdum is much improved since the last time they fought. This should be the heavyweight fight of the year!
If I had it my way, I would let Mir coach against Nog, but I wouldnt give him a title shot. I would just let Werdum fight Nog in December. WE deserve a great HW title fight, and Mir wont deliver!
VIa Cavalo! Linx, what does that mean? Lets Go horse?
by john on Jul 30, 2008 8:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree. When I first saw the thread, I was like WHO is he fighting, and why a number 1 contender match. But then I thought for all of about 1 second and realized that even I, just as recently as yesterday, said that Werdum should be next in line for a title shot. Therefor I have no problem with this match up. Its not Werdum’s fault that the UFC has no good HW’s to fight him.
By now, we have learned that they don’t always have #1 contender matches. Rather, they sometimes have fights where if one guy wins, he gets a title shot, but if the other guy wins, than he is just the spoiler and the division moves on. I really can’t think of an instance where someone fighting for a title shot against a can lost to the can. Can anyone?

John, “Vai Cavalo” means “go horse”, I’m thinking it’s because of his looks LOL, but I don’t know the origins for his nickname.
by linx on Jul 30, 2008 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, I can understand a lot of Portuguese because some of it is very similar to Italian. The only major difference that is the words that end with ao.

I know that it means go horse, but does it translate to Lets Go horse? or is it simply Go Horse?
by john on Jul 30, 2008 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
it would be translated as someone calling him a horse, such as “go horse” or “go fabricio”. It’s calling him a horse while saying GO, it’s a funny nick name, I bet it took a while for him to accept it. There was a time when I did BJJ, I only did it for about 6 months way back in my highschool years, and they gave me a nickname that I hated. but it really sticks to you if you show you don’t like it, I’m guessing that’s what happened to him…

WED. MORNING CONVERSATION WITH KEVIN:
WOW, great lists yesterday guys, few surprises: Machida made quite a few over rated lists, as did coture…not disagreeing, and Kimbo didn’t make everyone’s hyped list!
I got good idea to keep us mmamaniacs interested again today. I got at least a dozen, but what if you could ask mmamania one question. Only one guys, maybe we;ll get lucky and get a few answered. heres mine:

Did the UFC “pressure” you to change your name to mmamania, or did you do it on your own?

I know that Adam Wagner (you lucky motherfu…., LOL) had gotten the big gig that everyone was after. Was Adam just someone that posted on Mania and you had never met him in person, or is he someone that you were already aquainted with?
I ask because I am wondering if anyone has every truely graduated from “long time poster” to a paid employee. (Do employee’s get paid? If so, you are doing a GREAT job with this site and I am very jealous!!!)

wEDUM vs. Nogueira 2…Finally a worthy Heavyweight title fight and not that crap of a match up that is Mir vs. Nog. Lets get real, if it wasnt for the stupid TUF, show, MIR would NOT be fighting for the title. Why? He hasnt earned it at all and he will get outclassed by Nog anyway! If I am going to be honest, I would say that fighting Junior Dos Santos (I thought it was the luche libre star Dos Caras Jr when I 1st saw the thread) is not your typical #1 contender match up, but the division is a mess anyway, so whatever. At least Nog will be able to defend his title against a top fighter in Werdum instead of the non-deserving frank mir!
I like Werdum because he is always getting better and better! Moving to the chute Box camp was genius for Fabricio because it has made all the difference. Nog/werdum 1 was amazing and in March, I expect to see a better fight!
by john on Jul 30, 2008 7:25 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Mir will make for good TV. He doesn’t have an ignitable personality, but he does have a very freindly, knowledable demeanor about him. He is a GREAT announcer for WEC. I think that he is the 2nd best play by play commentator in MMA, and he IS the most knowlegeable. There is still something with the craziness in Joe Rogan’s voice that just gets me pumped. The kids on Mir’s team are going to learn alot from him, especially in the BJJ department. And hopefully he will bring in a great striking coach.
Imagine of Team Nog had Nogueria as the head and BJJ coach, Anderson Silva as the Muay Thai coach, Rafeal Feijao as the wrestling coach, Machida as the strategy coach, and that odd looking guy that I believe to be Team Black House strength and conditioning coach. The ripped older guy with a shaved head and always where’s a hat and has veins popping out everywhere (Sylvia Behring I believe is his name).
WOOOOOOWZERS!!!!!!
I just did a little google search, and look what I found:
“According to a MMAFrenzy, the Brazilian magazine Tatame has revealed the assistant coaches for the up coming season of "The Ultimate Fighter" season 8.
Frank Mirs assistants include Robert Drysdale one of the top BJJ practitioners in the world and strength and conditioning coach Rafael Alejarra. Drysdale won the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship in 2007 and is currently an assistant trainer at Extreme Couture.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s team includes UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and undefeated UFC light heavyweight Lyoto Michida.
The Ultimate fighter season 8 is set to debut on September 14 following UFC fight night 14."
UH OH. IF Team Nogueria can get a terrific translater, Mir’s team is in trouble. But then again, it will be hard for Nog’s team to yell instructions during the fights. This should be a very interesting season.
by ViolentMike on Jul 30, 2008 9:14 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Wow, what a list of trainers. Everyone is going to want to be on Team Nogueira!
Nogs english is actually pretty good, I dont think he will have trouble yelling instructions.
Hopefully Eddie Soars has his whole camp taking english lessons

I know I must be crazy, but I’m starting to think TUF 8 will be USA vs Brazil. I just can’t picture big nog, anderson silva and machida yelling instructions while a fight is going on, I’m thinking they’ll bring 16 Americans and 16 Brazilians, have the first fight to get rid of the weakest links between the Americans and Brazilians, and then have the final 8 Americans against the final 8 Brazilians. I know this may see a bit far stretched but I don’t think it would be impossible, it would be something new to the TUF shows and they sure need changes…
Also, I remember reading somewhere a quote from DW about a month ago that he said he found the new Anderson Silva, he was saying how this guy was just destroying everyone in the show, it’ll be interesting to see who it is and if it’s true, since DW always hype stuff out of proportion…

hopefully Team Nog has some good translators or else nobody on that team is learning anything… Robert Drysdale would school anyone on that list in BJJ also, so I think Mir’s team would be the better of the two

Not heard a thing about this new guy gogo Werdum!!! Of course Big NoG>>>>Everyone in the ufc so yeah poor Werdum he will more then likely win then get pwnt by Nog. Mir & Nog should be fairly interesting fight.

I hope the UFC takes the ‘interm’ out of Heavyweight Champion. IMO, Randy is not the champ anymore. Regardless if he and the UFC reconcile their differences – Big Nog ‘is’ the UFC Heavyweight Champion.
I wish the UFC could sign/resign top tier HWs like Barnett and Arlovski. But with both fighter’s payouts in the last Affliction card being +300k, I would sign with Affliction too! Tim made 800k! I’m still baffled by that one!
by TabascoSAUCE on Jul 30, 2008 2:21 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yea and theyre supposed to. it was originally reported that Randy’s contract lasted until october whether he fought or not, so after that Nog will definatley be the UFC Heavyweight Champ. my favs are the up and comers for HW’s.. Shane Carwin, Cain Velesquez, and the most high profile Brock Lesnar. i highly doubt any of them have the skillz for championships but theyre the future of the Ufc HW’s if the UFC treats them well (cough Affliction cough) lol. i cant wait to see what Lesnar has against Heath. ive been a fan since WWE days and he’s training like a mad man to get better and better. brought in a world champ for jiu jitsu training and im sure he’ll do the same for stand up… maybe give Anderson Silva a call or something!! lol

Arlovski is not a top-tier heavyweight anymore.
by The Mymus on Jul 30, 2008 3:38 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sorry Mymus…The 200+ posts when the Arlovski vs. Fedor confirmation thread came out says otherwise. MMA fans love Arlovski, and it will be Fedor’s most credible opponent to date.
But I do think the word ‘top tier’ has different meaning for everyone. Arlovski is 4-0 since his loss to Tim Sylvia in 2006, which includes a win over top contender Werdum. Arlovski is only 29 years old. He’s a former UFC champion. He’s a fan favorite. And he has a fast, aggressive style people want to see. If you don’t think he’s top tier…there’s no way to call him a B level fighter.
by TabascoSAUCE on Jul 30, 2008 3:48 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
When did Arlovsky stop being a top-tier HW? He is still one of the best HW’s easily. The UFC busted their ass to try and resign him. Almost every ranking out there has him top 5, and he would be ahead of Werdum for a title shot.
by Jason on Jul 30, 2008 4:39 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Arlovski became very timid after the rematch with Timmy. Thier 3rd fight was such a snoozer. The Pit Bull became gun shy. No Top Tier HW has lost twice to Timmy. In fact, most of the TOP HW’s that Timmy fought, are the losses on his record. The competition that Andre faced while HW champ was laughable to say the least. PPV’s headlined with him fighting Paul Buentello and JUSTIN EILERS!
But he did look ok against Pedapano, but then came the fight against Werdum where he looked awful.
That is where people get the idea that Andrei is not a top HW. I’d have to say that he is a Top Tier HW, but he is NOT on the level of a Fedor or Big Nog.

He is on a 4 fight win streak now… id say hes doing something right

But I doubt there are a lot of fighters out there who think," Oh happiness and joy, I get to fight Andre Arlovski! Easy win for me." lol. Whether he’s top 5 or not, he most certainly is considered top tier and highly dangerous.
by chefdaddy on Jul 30, 2008 7:33 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, having Randy as champion is a disgrace! The guy turned his back on everything and everyone, and for what, so that we can watch Fedor annihilate Randy into retirement in like 2 minutes? He should have fought Nogueira, which would have been a much more competitive fight. Nog has been calling Randy out, Randy refuses, so strip him of the title and give it to the TRUE LEGEND NOG, not that over rated Heavyweight formerly known as captain America!
Nogueira is the true UFC Heavyweight champion and if Randy ever got the ballz to fight him, Nog would prove it! I think nog beats Couture 8/10 times! I am dead serious about that!
by john on Jul 30, 2008 8:55 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’d say like 7 out of 10 for Nog. Randy could pull off a few decision wins by ustilizing the clinch, taking Nog down and staying active on top and using his superb sub defense to stay alive.
However, Big Nog has the better standup and of course, the better BJJ.
by ViolentMike on Jul 30, 2008 9:26 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
VM: I dont think Couture would be very eager to take Nog down. I know Randy has good sub defense, but I am not so sure he can defend hiself on the ground against Nog.
7/10 seems more approproiate!

Frank Mir won’t have any problem defending his title against this Werdum clown.
by The Mymus on Jul 30, 2008 3:39 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Let Mir worry about winning the title in a fight that he is going to be a huge underdog in.
This isnt Hardonk or an inxperianced Lesnar we are talking about here.
by Jason on Jul 30, 2008 4:42 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I hope Mir does his thing and gets the W over Nog, he has to use his brain and outsmart Nog from the get-go. Come in with a plan, not just some hopes and maybes. Come on Mir, snap another one!!!!!!
by ( (Adam G) ) on Jul 30, 2008 4:11 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Ill add this comment before anyone else does “Everyone has a plan until they get hit” . . . LAME! If you’re a savage like . . .lets say BJ Penn, you take the hits and stick to the game plan!! Mistakes come in that split second when you abandon the original plan and try to come up with a new one on the spot a la Hendo/Ando.
by ( (Adam G) ) on Jul 30, 2008 4:16 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i’d say Nog is more likly to come with a plan and stick to it, like most of his fights where he takes a beating but waits and then takes the sub.

Mir didn’t have a very good plan going into the Vera fight…
by ViolentMike on Jul 30, 2008 9:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Werdum deserves a title shot far more than Mir. What has Mir done lately?? Nothing Slapped on a sub on Brock Lesnar
Th Ultimate Fighter just needed a new season. And when the times comes, they throw together whatever adn whoever they can to get coaches together taht can actually fight after the show.
I mean, come on, WHO THE HELL ELSE were they going to have coache against Nog?? Big Nog’s English is not the best to begin with. They couldnt have the real contender, someone else like Werdum who’s English is not good.
So TUF cause another huge lapse in title defenses.

are you kidding me mir in his prime, before the wreck before the surgery possible, and why the fuck is he gettin a title shot now any way just cause a good jits guy has the title and he is a fan fav,I meen God bless the guy he is a great cinderella story but a sluggish win, that i would have missed watching if my dog needed a bath and the win over lesnar a guy who has fought once in pro mma.Witch when was the last time anyone has seen a fight stood back up over one shot to the back of the head steve thought mir was done,he went down to stop it found out mir was ok and didn’t want to look like a jack ass, called the point. you change that story around give brock thirty more seconds mir is out going to the hospital, and doubting his future, and believe it or not i like mir he is in my top 10. But he isn’t the same the sport isnt the same you have to be more athletic and he is missing that, not to say he doesnt have a punchers chance but nog stood most of the time with herring, did mir stand after one straight left from vera nope

Amen brother.
And people that dont think AA is a top 5 HW? AA has the best chance to beat Fedor of anyone, especially the longer it stays on the feet

I’ll admit, this guy does deserve it, and the thought of him and NOG going at it in the octagon is more and more appealing to me every time I think about it.

Off topic but can anyone tell me where Ricardo Arona has been the past year and a half?
by Macho Bullshit on Jul 30, 2008 7:26 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
There is a really interesting article on sherdog about him where he talks about coming back hopefully to fight once or twice this year. He has his eyes on the UFC but will fight wherever offers him the best opportunity.
That would definately shake up that division especially if he as focused as he sounds since his current layoff.

So… he’s basically guaranteed a title shot. You know, if Lidell loses again, I bet he’ll really consider a move to the HW division. I mean, people talk about Randy like he’s one of the greatest HWs ever, and Lidell beat him twice at LHW. Lidell’s got to be thinking, “if Randy did it, I could do it.”

I was reading some posts about TUF 8. I read the assistant coaches for Team Nogueira are Daniel Valverde (jiu-jitsu), Amaury Bitetti (Jiu-jitsu and MMA), Al Starkie (boxing), Wald(I don’t know who he is but he is the Muay Thai coach). I’m not sure if there will be a strenght and conditioning coach. Anderson Silva and Rogério Minotouro will be guest coaches
