UFC Fight Night 14 drug test results come back clean

ufc fight night 14 drug test
The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued the results of the drug tests performed prior to UFC Fight Night 14: "Silva vs. Irvin" at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, revealing that all 11 fighters who were screened for steroids tested negative.

Anderson Silva, James Irvin, Tim Credeur, Cale Yarborough, Hermes Franca, Frank Edgar, Cain Velasquez, Brandon Vera, CB Dollaway, Nate Loughran and John Gugerty were all among the fighters who were randomly selected to provide samples before their fights.

The tests are designed to deter fighters from ingesting performance enhancing drugs such as steroids and stimulants.

NSAC has adopted a new year-round drug-testing policy, which is perhaps the strictest of its kind in the sport.

The tests were random — there was no other reason the fighters mentioned above were singled out.

However, Franca and Credeur have both had run-ins in the past and Keith Kizer, NSAC executive director, has mentioned that previous failed/questionable tests will be a factor (among others) when it comes to deciding if a fighter should or should not be tested.

In addition to the drug test results, the NSAC reported that the UFC sold 1,690 tickets for the event, which was put together on short notice, tallying $590,000 at the gate.

Have to agree with Matt Serra on that one, who cares if they smoke weed, it’s only gonna hurt them, as long as their not on roids or any other performance enhancers then it’s their own business.

by O damn he got caught on Jul 29, 2008 2:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL, but it’s a “gateway” drug!!

by Haze on Jul 29, 2008 2:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

SOOOOOO ridiculous. A fighter should be able to smoke weed if he wants to, it does not enhance performance. Do people think smoking cigarettes increases or decreases your performance/cardio?

Now, a question about the testing for MANIA. Did Tim Credeur stop taking his ADD medication to fight, or did he get OK’d to take it?

I wish Brandon Vera would use some stimulants, even if he got busted for it. Someone’s gotta light a fire under that guy’s arse or the UFC won’t re-sign him.

Got they gots to chill with the Weed.. the biggest violation I’ve ever witnessed was Nick Diaz vs Gomi.. beautiful fight ending gogoplata by Diaz.. to get a the ruling reversed..and banned for a year?? Because he had such a high amount of THC in his blood..that ii had to of helped him not feel the punches and kicks Gomi was giving him?? BS.. Heroin, Coke, Crystal, all that shit gots to go.. but weed? a f’n plant.. is illegal..why? back in 1932 i believe the US outlwed weed for economical reasons..not health reason. How can someone tell me.. that soemthing that does not hurt me..or anyone else ..youcan’t OD..and nobody has ever died from it since the beginning of the world..that “its” illegal..is full of shit. For us living in this information age.. ther is enough information to see that weed doesn’t hurt no one.. it just get s abad rap ..when people mix alcohal..and hard drugs into the equations..and when morons smoke..becausethey just become a bigger moron.. Shit in some states they medically prescribe bud for patioents suffering from depression, cancer and what not.. if the FDA wee to ever legalize weed..all these anti dreppresent drugs will not be needed.

Shit.. even alcohal was illegal at one time.. which make how many of us criminals??

Shit.. even alcohal was illegal at one time.. which make how many of us criminals??My bad guys..jsut needed to vent a bit.. another thing I wanted to add is..why randomly selected.. should everyone be steroid screened??

i agree. i think alcohol is a way more dangerous drug than pot any day and its legal. weed is not performance enhancing, if anything its performance de-hancing (IS THAT A WORD?).

I understood it. It’s a word.

no shit phil, its crazy!!! @ one time yayo was legal and alcohol wasn’t! our government is all screwed up. just think of all the money the states would get if it were legal. they would save on trafficing it and they could tax the $hit out of it like they do cigarettes(over $7 a pack in ny!) don’t really care about tabacco bc that’s nasty and will kill you! but weeeeeeeeed!!! the world would be a much calmer happier place! i’m sorry as well, had to vent!!!!

Don’t shoot the messenger on this one (!), but you can argue legalities of smoking marijuana til you’re blue in the face. The fact of the matter is that it’s illegal, he smoked it anyway, knowing it was illegal, and got punished.

Werdum just signed a 5 fight contract with the UFC and will probably compete at UFC 90 but an opponent is not yet mentioned

Werdum vs Valasquez??

by PhilQNY on Jul 29, 2008 2:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

tHat would be a great fight.

Yes sir..

by PhilQNY on Jul 29, 2008 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think its time to feed Velasquez to the big dogs yet. Werdum should be next in line for a title shot with a win.

They need to get Velasquez a few more wins first.

by ViolentMike on Jul 29, 2008 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Let ’s see what fight makes sense for the HH picture ..

Mir vs Big Nog Title fight

Werdum

Cain

Heath

Kongo

Brock

I forget thatdudes name..who is undefeated..looks like Coleman.. why not set him up with Cain. They are both REAL tuff. and freshman to the UFC.

Brock is still too green.. Heath beat Kongo.. Werdum should be in line for shot now.. or fight one more and wins..gets the title shot.. I know I may be missing someone here.. you guys can help out.. but the HH line is not that long. Like every 3rd fight should be a title fight.

How big is the Pearl? It says they sold 1,690 at the gate, but what is the total size for the crowd. And what is the average crowd size for Fight Night events? When Fight Night is here in September, the arena they are holding it in can seat over 10,000. I hope we can fill it up for a good showing!

when is the csac gonna come out with medical suspensions and drug testing results for afflictions last card. it seems way overdue.

Hermes looked so timid off the juice. Edgar bullied him real good.
