Diego Sancez vs. Alves has been confirmed for UFC 90 as well.

I also expect to see Sherk face either stevenson or Tyson Griffin and possibly the return of wanderlei

Wow that would be a monster card.

by O damn he got caught on Jul 29, 2008 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Forget about Sherk, I think that Stevenson vs Griffin would be a better fight. I believe that I heard something along the lines of a Sherk/Stevenson fight. Who do you guys have being the favorite in that fight? Is it automatically Sherk?

Cote is going to get hurt in this fight thinking that he one of his punches is equivalent to 10 of Andersons.

by ViolentMike on Jul 29, 2008 10:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’d have togo with Sherk. Guy is just too strong and pushes that pace so fast, I think stevenson would be overwhelmed.

by chefdaddy on Jul 29, 2008 11:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Joe just needs to eat the organic carrots that Sherks eats.. and he’ll do just fine agaisnt the former LW UFC Champ.

by PhilQNY on Jul 29, 2008 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed, and he’s got some boxing too, he went toe to toe with BJ for longer than Joe did, I’d give the wrestling and the striking to sherk, the sub could still happen for Joe though.

by O damn he got caught on Jul 29, 2008 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am curious to see Joe’s confidence after the brutal war he had against BJ.

You know Sherk will be testing his will…

by OJR on Jul 29, 2008 11:09 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sherk doesn’t have enough of a neck for Joe Daddy to apply a guillotine. Sherk by UD.

by PW on Jul 29, 2008 11:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah sherk as clear fav and UD win.

by eightyproof on Jul 29, 2008 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would say that Sherk would be the favorite. His boxing might be slightly better but it wont overwhelm joe. He would push the pace and control the fight. It would all come down to if JOe could catch him in a submission. If not, Sherk via decision.

I cant wait to find out who Tibau fights next! Maybe a fight vs. Hermes Franca would be good stylisticly.

Earned his shot? Who did he beat to earn a shot? Franklin, no, Henderson, no, okami, no, Thales, no, Marquart, no. Well no wins against a top ten opponent time for a title shot.

No one deserves a title shot right now especially Cote. I’d rather see the winner of Leben/Bisping get a title shot.

by DonnyG on Jul 29, 2008 6:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Who has a chance?? He’s got to fight someone. If there’s a MW out there, Dana want’s to talk to you. And yes, he’ll take your call.

by DJ on Jul 29, 2008 10:37 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I would like to see Denis Kang come to the UFC. He could be an interesting matchup for Silva.

by NorthStar on Jul 29, 2008 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kang would get tooled by Anderson. He’s lost 3 of his last 4 fights.

by Pat on Jul 30, 2008 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Will the trailer last longer than the fight?

by chefdaddy on Jul 29, 2008 10:38 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

probably LOL, I don’t see this lasting very long, the fight will probably be longer than a minute only because anderson takes his time within the first minute to analyze his opponent, so maybe a minute and five seconds?

It’s just bad time to fight Anderson Silva.. he has state of the art Mauy Thai.. top level jits.. fundamentally sound wrestlting..a Fedorish type of Aura.. to add.. he is a class act.. none this lame brain talk like

" I’ll take 10 of his punches.. to give one.. all I need is one"

Some will say.. hey is being confident and what not.. but when something like this comes out his mouth..it sounds High Schoolish.. ImO Cote will always just need that “one pucnh”..cuz he won’t get it.. at UFC90 or any wher else against Silva..it’s NOt going to happen.. Silva’s sparring partner’s are more comp then the predator.. which in case he will be the one getting hunted down. Cote is banging on his chest.. grabbing his nutz.. but deep down inside.. he’s shook.

He knows whats going to happen..he will try just not to look as bad as Irvin did.. after Irvin..ran his lip about " This is why we have weight classes "..and after he woke up.. Anderson’s after comment..was total class. If Cote comes out and tries to rush him a la Babalu/Iceman2.. he’ll get drugged in 90seconds flat.. if Cote comes out less aggresive.. Silva will figure out his timing.. and punch out his time card in 4 minute flat.

by PhilQNY on Jul 29, 2008 10:50 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

woah..woah.. I said 4 minutes flat.. that’s too much cred for Cote.. Silva will pull the 2 minute drill for his playbook.

by PhilQNY on Jul 29, 2008 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am thinking Cote is gonna try the GNP route for this fight. He will work his standup to get a takedown. I dont think hes got what it takes to win but I want to see what he tries to do to win.

by NorthStar on Jul 29, 2008 12:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cote’s highest breaking point.. is no where near Silva’s..Cote just needs to train his as off and Pray..pray everday!! Just to make out the first round…

i got a feeling cote might catch anderson.. but the cut from his 205 training might slow him down a bit.. highly unlikely but it might.. if cote cant beat him then noone at mw is left i guess dana will have to try

BISPING!

by PW on Jul 29, 2008 11:18 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What about him? Oh, wait, you mean Bisping to fight Silva? For the belt? REALLY? Well, I just don’t know how to comment on this. I mean, they have to find SOMEONE to fight him. But Bisping? Geez. And maybe next they’ll have Siva fight some fluffy little bunnies. You know, give him a challenge for the first time in a while.

by chefdaddy on Jul 29, 2008 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

bisping needs about 3 more wins and one of them has to be a dominate victory over hendo or rich (no easy task) before anyone can even start to talk about a siva/bisping fight. when i see a mw who can beat franklin or hendo convincingly then i might think he has a chance against anderson. but by that time anderson will probably already have moved up to 205 permanantly.

by b.w. on Jul 29, 2008 11:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

remember, Silva stated that he is not moving to LHW permanently. He wants to keep the middleweight belt, and does not want to challenge for the LHW belt as he feels Machida will take it.

by chefdaddy on Jul 29, 2008 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

bisping doesnt need 3 more fights.. if he beats down leben he should either get a shot (a la silva) or get a shot at hendo/frankie. bisping may be overhyped, but he is still a solid fighter.

by eightyproof on Jul 29, 2008 12:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ll agree that if he can take hendo or franklin, he should get the shot. In my mind, they are the gatekeepers to Silva. But I don’t see Bisping beating either of them!

by chefdaddy on Jul 29, 2008 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i think i would favor machida over forrest slightly if they fight for the title. but you cant count forrest out of any fight. he has wins over 2 of the top 5 rated p4p in a nine month span, and no matter their fans say (rampage, shogun) he beat them. if any other fighter had accomplished this feat, he would be highly touted, but for some reason forrest just cant get his just dues from some fans. i guess what im really trying to say that if machida doesnt have the belt, most likely a.silva will move up.

by b.w. on Jul 29, 2008 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like Cote, but he’s gonna get smoked. I agree that he’s going to try to put on a better show than Irvin. Between the two, I would have given Irvin the better chance. Hopefully Cote doesn’t throw any kicks, at least if he gets caught he can scramble and survive another 3 or 4 seconds.

by Shadyone33 on Jul 29, 2008 10:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Cote does have a pretty good chin as we seen when he fought Leban, and he’s going to need it! I would have thought Irvin stood the better chance than Cote and Irvin lasted abut a min. If he hadn’t of thrown that kick to the middle of Silva’s body it might of went a little longer. I would be soooooo surprised if this fight went past the first round. I’m not sure if Cote has ever been ko’d, but its coming!!

by brac on Jul 29, 2008 11:11 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Who has Cote fought that can be considered anywhere near Silva’s level? He never fought Franklin, Okami, Henderson, anyone in the UFC most would consider atop the division. He beat Drew McFedries. oh wow…

And as it’s been said already… If he thinks it’ll take 10 punches from Silva, perhaps he should have a talk with Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson, Nate Marquardt, and James Irvin.

by Fidel Cashflow on Jul 29, 2008 11:14 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

And Chris Leban and Leban has an iron chin.

by brac on Jul 29, 2008 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But its like someone else said, nobody wants to see silva/franklin 3, were not ready for silva/hendo 2, okami broke his hand, so silva has to fight someone at 185.

Silva is kind of going through what Roy Jones jr.. went thru in his prime with boxing.

by PhilQNY on Jul 29, 2008 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually, Roy Jones Jr. avoided some big name challenges until after the tail end of his career.

Silva seems to be willing to take anyone on and just destroys them.

by OJR on Jul 29, 2008 11:53 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

who were those big names that roy ducked when he was in his prime? he already beat b-hop and tarver hadnt made a name for himself yet. if any thing, fighters were ducking roy by asking for too much money, more than r.j. himself.

by b.w. on Jul 29, 2008 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Roy Jones didn’t fight a prime Hopkins. That’s like GSP refusing to ever fight Koscheck again cuz he already beat him.

by Pat on Jul 30, 2008 10:32 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was just wanting to say too that I bet Cote doesn’t land 1 punch to Silva’s face. I think with Silva’s height and reach advantage (and superior skills) Cote will never even get close to landing a big shot and the Spider is going to kill him. I can’t wait to see Silva fight another lhw. i wish they would give him Forrest in his next fight. 2 belts would be pretty cool.

by brac on Jul 29, 2008 11:17 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I wanna see Cote vs Franklin.. Cote might have better hands than Franklin so who knows how well he’ll do! I Give him 2 rounds

by RoB on Jul 29, 2008 11:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

On paper this seems like a total mismatch. However, I’d give Cote a better chance than Irvin. Cote needs to perform a lot better than he did in his last fight (which was very tentative). Being an ex-soldier (who I believe saw active service in Bosnia), I doubt that Cote will be afraid to exchange with Silva.

by Muscle Dolphin on Jul 29, 2008 11:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He will be very afraind of Silva.. he will not show it..but I smell it all over him.. granted being in a military conflict..makes you harder around the edges then the average joe.. but if he is not strapped with desert eagle or a Rambo type hunting knife.. he will lose this fight at the weigh ins..Anderson Silvs will make Cote look like he doesn’t even belong inthe UFC MW division.. and Cote is tuf dude..he has heart and all that.. but Silva’s left and right hands are heat seaking cruise missiles.. with a nuclear tip.

by PhilQNY on Jul 29, 2008 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The only guy with the tools to beat Anderson at middleweight is Dan Henderson. But since he can’t stick toi a game plan Anderson will be champ for a long time.

by DB on Jul 29, 2008 11:56 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Did anybody see Cote last fight? , he got beat on the first round by Almeida, yes Cote won the fight after that First round, but after that the fight was boring, he won the fight, cause Almeida just changed his strategy, he used in the First round, and Almeida sucked after that. So I dont think that Silva is going to be like that, Cote is not a real contender right now. He will be Humiliated.

by Marco on Jul 29, 2008 11:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I dont think anyone with the balls to step into the octagon can be humiliated(unless he runs the whole fight). He will be fighting the MW champ. Maybe the best pound for pound fighter in the world. To lose to such a man isnt humiliating. To lose to such a man is normal.

by NorthStar on Jul 29, 2008 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Totally agree.

by PhilQNY on Jul 29, 2008 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

True that. What are we all gonna do.. slam Cote for losing when we all expect him to?

This and future MW bouts with Anderson against the current class will become tougher and tougher to hype. Anderson sells himself but sooner or later we all will get sick of the beatings.

IMO re: Anderson’s statement to stay at MW: to me he is posturing the UFC for more dough. If he stays there, the division basically becomes useless. So he is waiting to be offered a bone to move to LHW. I’m not saying he would have to move up and stay there, but his focus would have to be LHW and fighting at MW may happen once every 12-14 months. In a strange sort of way, Anderson poses somewhat of a problem for Dana.

My favorite was his pre fight interview before he got KO’d by A. Silva. “I’m a dump truck, he’s gonna hit me and I’m just gonna keep comin forward.” Riiiiite, sure sure.. Please be a dump truck with Bisping..

Ummm I still don’t know how Cote is in a championship fight. Mediocre at best!!! Seriously people?!?! Cote??? versus Silva?!? This is a joke. Even if it’s not, the fight WILL be.

by T-bone on Jul 29, 2008 4:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Cote is the number #1 contender, that’s why he gets a championship fight. Why wouldn’t people be happy to see him get distroyed by Anderson, that’s what I want to see. #1 striker in the world against a so-so striker, should be a great 35 seconds.

by Edgar on Jul 29, 2008 8:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Bizz just moved down and if all goes as planned he will probably be in a main event next year in the UK against Anderson. He will get his shot. But honestly, does it really matter who loses next?

by DJ on Jul 29, 2008 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The reason for this lame MW fight instead of the more interesting LHW match-ups is that it would be a commercial disaster for the UFC if Silva had two belts. They need a variety of contenders. He’s already attached a second-rate aura to the other fighters in the MW division. Imagine if Silva beats a big LHW name. For example: “silva beat jardine, and jardine beat griffin, ergo silva could beat… etc.” If the LHW division starts to go the way of the MW and HW divisions (uncompetitive and w/o believable stars) the company would be in trouble.

And then there’s the sceduling. Silva can’t fight every other month to defend two belts.

It won’t happen ever. Too bad.

The new BJ and new GSP should fight again. That would be the best fight I’d ever see.

by nate on Jul 29, 2008 9:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The only MW fighter deserving of a title shot now is Ryo Chonan. That’s right..Silva vs. Chonan II!!
