Hearing has lost in the past due to an asthma attack. Brock is without a doubt the superior wrestler, if he can push the pace and grind him out, Brock can win.
Also, I have seen Hearing quit after tasting some big guys power. fedor and Cro Cop both hit him hard and made him quit.
If Brock gets off a clean shot, he will hit has hard as anyone. MOst important thing that Brock needs to do to win this fight is avoid standing with Hearing, take him down, but the most important thing is that once it goes to the ground brock has to CONTROL heath. Heath is very tricky on the ground. He is constantly rolling out of positions and then winning scrambles. Brock has to control him while he is rolling, or Brock could end up caught in a bad position and get submitted again!
by john on Jul 29, 2008 8:22 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Or Heath will just knee the living shit out of his ribs from side control.
by O damn he got caught on Jul 29, 2008 9:14 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Possibly, but I find it hard to believe that anyone will get Brock in side control. More likely Heath will look to catch a hold of something when he rolls out of position to create a scramble.
by john on Jul 29, 2008 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Heath needs to extend this fight and test Lesnar’s cardio. Make Lesnar’s weight work against him by gassing him. He can then pick him apart.
Lesnar needs to end this quickly and watch for Heath’s scrambling (agree w/ john).

Probably right, Brock is just a big strong dude, getting a good top position would be one thing but keeping it is probably a totally different story.

John, why do you always spell Herring’s name ‘Hearing’?
by PJJ on Jul 29, 2008 10:38 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
John, I’m going to have to disagree with you. Wrestlers are too good at scrambling. Heath won’t be able to roll someone with a good wrestler’s base like Lesner. If this fight goesto the ground it’s over.

why does everyone thinks Lesnar hits hard? i still havent seen him box. HAMMA-fisting doesnt count, with hands like his all he needs is gravity there.

He’s far and away the strongest fighter in UFC, and his fists are the size of bricks. That has to hurt.

droped Mir to ther canvas with 1 punch, shows some klind of power. His power will also increase as his technique gets better.
Yeah I always muspell Herring’s name.

Read this! Its a good read: Rumble JOhnson talking about Mazzaggatti and Kevin Burns:
"My retina was damaged, possibly detached, and the laceration was pretty long. It was basically from one end of my eye to the other. They did laser surgery that took about two hours, put some stitches on it basically. The doctor said I should be back in the September. So, hopefully you’ll get to see me do my thing in September or October…
I have nothing against Kevin; but personally I don’t want him to fight again until he gets his hands fixed. I don’t want any other fighter to go through what I went through. I don’t think it’s cool that he fought with his hands like that. It put himself and others that he’s competing with in danger. Just look at me. I can accept a loss, but I can’t accept a loss or the consequence of someone else’s wrong doing in a fight like that."
by john on Jul 29, 2008 8:41 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If Burns admitted he cant punch with his hands closed then I dont see anybody wanting to fight him. And why would the UFC keep him around if he cant get that fixed?
by JV on Jul 29, 2008 8:45 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
jv: I agree! its really not fair to Burns’s opponents. u r right, NO one is going to want to fight him. I doubt any fighter wants to risk loosing their vision to fight a C-level fighter like Kevin Burns!
Sorry, Burns cause I like you, this is just real talk!

I agree with JV..After like 3 eyes pokes during that match.. to then..win via “EyePoke/TKO”..and to top it off..he reveals to the MMA world.. " I can’t throw a closed fist jab.. I have to keep my hand open.. I’ve broken it.. 3X in 16months.. woah.. Burns.. Your a tuf cat.. game fighter..much props for tapping out a BJJ phenom( You should of gotten a Purple belt for that..IMO )..but it’s unrealistic to think if he fights again..that the same thing..will not happen again. It’s one thing what Nick Diaz does inhis boxing style with keeping his hands open.. more to measure up his shot.. but when he strikes..it’s with a closed fist. I really do not want to see another Burns/Johnson incident.. so I hope the UFC can straighten this thing out..like Burn’s hand.

I’m not going to go down to your level on this.. but the only thing else I have to add.. in the first UFC’s 1 through whenever a the added the rules and weight classes.. when there were no RULES.. No head butting. No eye poking, No groin shots. Those were the only rules.
I would be bit more afraid of getting a Shogun head stomp..if I could’t see! Eye pokes..got no business in MMA.. if this was a bar fight..so be it.

true… im never really too serious about anything, so dont be insulted at my comments… ever. lol anyways i still think johnson is being a wuss, shouldnt he want to go back in there and demolish burns for that illegal strike?

by JV on Jul 29, 2008 12:36 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think Johnson was being a “wuss” at all.. by far. He fought real hard..was to some degree egding out a win if the fight would of went to the judges..till the 3rd eye poke F’d every thing up.. then he gets shafted by the ref..losing via eye poke/TKO??
As the crowd was booing.. he got on the mic and said for the fans to chill and give Burns his cred for fighting hard.. and things like "this’ happen.. Well sometime after this..he gets to sit down and watch the fight like we did.. And he sees/hears what Burn’s post fight comments about.. how he can’t do nothing about it.. cuz he broke his hand 3X in the last 16months ..he can only throw open handed jabs… .which means..all of his fights are at a high risk of seeing the same thing go down. MMA fighters work too damn hard with their training camps.. cutting weight etc.. to get shafted like that. The NSAC shouldn’t of even allowed him to fight under these circumstances..for the exact reason for how Johnson/Burns fight went down.. our sport and our fighter’s need to be protected.

All I know is that IO wouldnt want to fight him again either.
He has nothiong to prove because he was clearly outclassing burns as the fight progressed. He was about 1 minute away from a Unanimous decision win. WShy risk fighting a guy that can potentially blind you illegally? U heard what Burns said about his hand and how he throws his punches so why would u fight him again.
No point!

He already has fans! The good thing about Brock is that he knows that he’s still a little green when it comes to MMA and he knows it! That’s why he does all this training to improve his game. He’s not relying on talent and freakish strength alone[unlike Karo and friends]. He’s relying on training so he cpuld go further for that elusive title shot!

TheNegation, You are right..“He already has fans”..Damn straight!!..He had more fans then most Top MMa fighters before he ever fought in the UFC…
As far as MMa fans?? He has those aswell. For I am a fan of brock. I will admit, I did not like the idea of having a former WWE star coming over to MMa at first. But after his 1st fight and the countless interviews I have seen with him,- he has grown on me..
I think he is a beast, and with a good camp, he will be a force in the UFC HW division soon enough..He shows respect for the sport, and he has a great mind-set to compete..I really like his personality and the way he “keeps it real”…And also, choosing to fight only top fighters while he is still a rookie shows me he feels ready to make an impact..(confidence)
He knows he could have turned left on easy-street after his loss to Mir, but no’….He has stepped up to face another big HW with great JJ..Heath is like a better version of Frank Mir..Herring’s Texas JJ is better then Mir’s JJ, and Heath can stand and bang too…..
by Stagger-Lee on Jul 29, 2008 8:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I actually think this is a worse match up for Brock, Heath might not be as good on the ground as Mir with subs, but he’s a more well rounded fighter overall IMO. And he’s said in interviews (and I agree) that Brock isn’t going to put him in a position or do anything to him that he hasn’t experienced/seen before. Besides the size and the strength of Brock, which is actually a lot to contend with, he really doesn’t have an advantage here.
I think the Coleman match up would have been better for Brock, maybe not as exciting for the fans, but after notching a win and having more time to train I think his level of confidence just getting that 1st win would contribute to us seeing an even better Lesnar. Who knows what adjustments he’ll make in response to that last loss if any, I would think we might see a more cautious/tentative Brock this time around and that might just give Herring the edge.

His not ready for the submission game a guy like Fedor has. He got tapped by Mir on a very basic kneebar/ankle lock…hard to tell exactly what it was. Fedor would take some punches and armbar the hell out of him. Brock needs some wins against quality guys and slowly climb up the ladder. No Kimbo circus BS just steady improvements and he could one day hold the belt, not in a couple years at least though.

After one K-1 pro bout against a can, Brock’s second pro MMA fight is against a former UFC Champion BJJ Black Belt, and his third pro MMA fight is against a PRIDE FC veteran.
Does anyone see the disconnect here?
I got to give it to Brock Lesnar. I don’t know if this is a good thing though. Look at most guys that finally reach the UFC. Most have double digit fights under their belts with experience in different organizations. Brock should be fighting in the IFL or other smaller circuit leauges to build his skill set.
Brock has so much upside potential its scary. But if he loses to Herring, then what? I know Brock sells PPVs and gets the average WWE fan interested in MMA…but at what cost?

Heath Herring by debilitating leg kicks.
by DirtyML on Jul 29, 2008 4:34 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Do you really see heath winning by leg kicks? The number one thing that you DONT do to a GREAT wrestler is pick up your foot for a leg kick…that equals EASY take down. If Heath tries to sit on the outside and throw leg kicks, he will be put right on to his back. You obviously didnt see Lesnars last fight…the guy is just as fast as some 170lbs fighters.
by WarriorCenter on Jul 29, 2008 7:03 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That is the most common sense I have read on here yet. That is the only way Herring will win this fight. I love how people talk about the Mirr fight as if it was an easy victory for Mirr. Frankly I think the UFC helped Mirr win as he is all the sudden one of the new coaches for The Ultimate Fighter. Dont tell me that wasnt already in the works. I think they signed him on to beat Lesnar easy and all the sudden frank gets knocked on his ass by a Lesnar punch( for those who doubt lesnars punching) and then takes 20 – 30 seconds of unanswered blows that would of ordinarily ended any fight by referee stopage. The ref then stands them up deducting a point from Lesnar without warning for a back of the head shot that Mirr turned into. Meanwhile this fight should of already been over as Lesnar DOMINATED Mirr until the ref stood them up and took the point.
Herring will not be able to stop Lesnars takedowns and that is were it will go quick. Lesnar will gnp out Herring in no later than the 2nd round.
by ASR on Jul 31, 2008 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The thing is, he’s not a freak in terms of proportion, he’s actually in great shape for someone his size- and he has to cut weight to get to 265!
That means on the night he’ll have 40 pounds on many of his competitors (including Fedor). That’s more than the difference between GSP and Rampage! He SHOULD be able to smash and out wrestle all those 230 pound heavyweights
by Andy on Jul 29, 2008 5:34 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree. I think he will only have problems with legit BJJ blackbelts ala Mir!
by Fokman on Jul 29, 2008 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Lesnar has just got to keep pushin’ the pace to win this one. His gameplan should be to overwhelm Herring and rely on his size to outmatch Herring. Herring is used to fighting less stronger fighters[though more technical]than Brock.
Lesnar should impose his will right from the start of the 1st and let Herring feel “Crazy” by never knowin’ what hit him. Lesnar of course should be careful of those strikes from Heath ‘coz he IMO is the more advanced striker and could have a chance right there to test Brock’s chin.
In any case, Lesnar via freakish upset! Any method would work! Be it smashing Heath’s face, tearing his limbs apart, or just doin’ a full nelson on Heath till his limbs break off!!
by TheNegation on Jul 29, 2008 6:45 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If Lesnar get Herring in the same position as he had Mir in(top position) its GAME OVER. Herring is not going to take too many size XXXL fists to the face and be able to submit him like Mir did. Its just not going to happen. I say Lesner KO in under 2 min.
by Fokman on Jul 29, 2008 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I honestly see Lesnar leading with a double jab or a quick combo and going for the takedown. He is MUCH stronger and also quicker so his strikes from the mount will be too much for Heath. The only chance the Heath has is to get back to his feet and hope to land a shot before it goes back to the ground. If Lesnar can keep Heath on his back for longer than 90 seconds, this fight will be over. We all saw what Lesnar did in 30 seconds to the former champ. If he didnt get caught that fight was over in another 30 to 60 seconds.

MMA could learn alot from boxing on how to build a guy slowly, its not about every fight being a superfight, who were DeLA Hoyas first 15 fights against? How about Mayweather’s first 9 opponents? How about Ali’s early fights? ITs not about guys being cans its about letting guys get experience.

This is really a pickle for the UFC if Herring wins….. They have put so much hype into Lesnar, and after two straight losses, they won’t really be able to sell him anymore. Then Lesnar goes straight to Affliction for just as much, if not more money and uses all of that UFC push to further a rival company.

We’ve seen Herring taken down before(Fedor, Noguiera, and even Kongo), so Lesnar taking him down is an almost certainty. The only question of course is can he avoid a sub and can he avoid being swept.

Heath Herring doesn’t have much of a chance. Jake O’Brien dry humped him for a win. Unfortunately for him, Brock Lesnar will be doing a lot more than dry humping.
