Brandon Vera vs Keith Jardine UFC 89 fight made official and others for Spike TV broadcast

Light heavyweights Brandon Vera and Keith Jardine will indeed tangle at UFC 89: "Leben vs. Bisping" at the National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham, England, on October 18, according to an official press release distributed earlier today.
This news confirms an earlier report that we passed along here and comes on the heels of the official announcement from UFC President Dana White over the weekend that show will air on Spike TV for free via tape delay.
It's an event that takes place just one week prior to UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Ill., on October 25, which is possibly the reason for the free gift -- back-to-back pay-per-view (PPV) events would be a tough sell to fans ... literally.
In addition to the Vera-Jardine 205-pound match up, two welterweight clashes -- Marcus Davis vs. Paul Kelly and Chris Lytle vs. Paul Taylor -- were also confirmed. We first shared news about those bouts right here and here, respectively.
UFC 89 features the main event between middleweight brawlers Chris Leben and Michael Bisping. To check out the most recent card and rumors click here.

Mikey: please stfu. yes a couple of boring fights but what about before that? Sometimes styles dictate fights not the fighters.
by MoonUK on Jul 29, 2008 2:13 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No Doubt in my mind that this will be a very exciting fight! MoonUk, is right, the reason this last fight was boring was because the way their styles matched up. If Vera would have abandoned his counter punching strategy and attacked more, he would have been taken down by Reese, and dry humped for 3 rounds. stylistically that match up was doomed from the start. I blame JOe Silva for the bad fight not Vera.
Vera vs. Jardine is the perfect stylistic match up to ensure that we get an exciting fight out of Vera. No doubt that this will be a great fight. Fools can hate on Vera all they want, but him and Jardine are really going to bang it out!
no predictions offered for this one!

I hear that Chuck Liddell vs. Anderson Silva will happen in 2009
Anderson Silva’s contract allows him to receive pay per view revenue. However, Silva doesnt pull in great numbers as a main event headliner. Some of this is due to the lack in opposition he finds in the middleweight division, some of it is due to being less marketable because he doesnt speak english.
Silva realizes that there are bigger money fights for him at lHW, and I hear that he will continue to defend his middleweight title, while still looking for Big Fights at light heavyweight.
I hear that Chuck Liddell and him will go at it in 2009
by john on Jul 29, 2008 8:33 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Now theres a dream fight!!! We all know Chuck can take a shot, and has bombs in his hands. And like Joe Rogan said about Anderson “this is a different kind of striker” If promoted right, that fight could break all fight records.
by JV on Jul 29, 2008 8:38 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
JV: u r right about this as well. If they promote it the right way, it could shatter pay per view records.
PhilQny: Text me on Sunday and he we talked about the importance of of Silva learning to speak English. phil made a great point saying that his Manager Eddie Soars should have Silva taking English lessons on a daily basis.
Its a shame for a fighter so good as Silva, to not be making top dollar simply because he cant communicate with his fans, but its an unfortunate reality.
Silva vs. Liddell will be a dream fight and its GOING DOWN, sooner than later! Remember that you heard it here 1st!

Sorry guys, Vera on this one!! This is redemption time!!! He’ll show his form of old at 205! War Vera!![I mean literally, his fights the last couple of times were really boring, so I urge you Vera, WAR-Mode!!!]
by TheNegation on Jul 28, 2008 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Vera didn’t look good in his last two fights, but one was because Big Poopy was humping him against the fence, and his last fight he looked like he gassed from the weight cut. I think he’ll come looking sharper and faster than before. And since Vera and Jardine can both throw some nasty kicks this should be a nice technical stand-up fight.

Great fight.
I got a non controversial, very FUN TUESDAY CONVERSATION planned. put your thinking caps on guys. If I’m home by 3 am, i’ll have it up early, if not, then by 8 pacific! late!

This is suprisingly ending up to be a really great card! Considering that its free XD

Would everyone stop complaining about FREE fight cards please, If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Anyways, I hope Jardine gets back on track in this fight, I am one of his fans and I kno a few more losses and he might be on his way out since he has no fan base!

already near weight?
He prolly cuts 10lbs 3 weeks out then 7-8lbs of water weight.
Is your head really screwed on right?

i don’t see the ufc letting jardine go he may never be a title holder but he makes one hell of a gatekeeper, so they wont let him go anytime soon but he really can’t afford another knockout loss for his own health..
i see jardine beating him on points

The Truth better start cutting weight now and keep it off until then! He looked very very tired from the cut and was well below par fighting Reese Andy. If he shows up like that again I don’t see this going past the first round.

I have been a Jardine fan since he “lost” to Bonner. He is exciting to watch and has a similar style to Vera so they match up nicely. I think losing to Houston actually made him a better fighter. He focuses on the task at hand and worries about tomorrow, well… tomorrow.
I got Jardine by UD.
by DJ on Jul 28, 2008 7:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah i like both guys but give the edge to jardine, both guys need a big win here and can’t afford the loss so it should be a war.

Dana is gonna see another 100k go down the toilet during this fight, thankfully he wont have to pay 200k like he did against Reese Andy.
And Rory Markham was brought in for 6k a fight. boggle
by Luppers on Jul 28, 2008 8:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Great fights – I’m looking forward to Davis/Kelly Lytle/Taylor more than the Vera/Jardine match up…..but gotta love the free fights.
I give Dana a hard time when he deserves it and I’m happy to give him props when he deserves it! Very cool!

Brandon is gonna take him out! the simple gameplan is to rush Jardine and put it on him like you would in a streetfight! Wanderlei did that and Houston did that.. I also believe that Brandon wasn’t mentally prepared to fight so soon after his controversial loss to Fabricio, so in this fight he will look better i think!

ok i have to go to waay off topic! the UFC should give Kevin Burns an ultimatum, i rewatched the fight with AJ and every left he throws is with open hand.. fire him if he cant throw with closed hands, or let him back when he can!

For some reason that fight goes on my list of fights I don’t really give a rats ass about.
I’ll take “The Dean of Mean” because of his catchy nickname.

I hope Jardine recovered OK from the beating he took from Silva. This should be a good fight. I see Jardine landing a lot of leg kicks over and over and over again. I see it being a pretty close fight. I’ll give this on to Jardine, very close though.
by halljam2 on Jul 28, 2008 8:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The only way this will not be the most exciting fight of the night is if Vera takes it to the ground. Which I dont believe he will. SO definitely a KO for one of the two..

If anyone has ever seen the “Techno Viking” video on YouTube….The guy reminds me of Keith Jardine completely ruined on ecstasy, dancing through the streets in Germany.

That is pretty funny. Thats what Keith Jardine would look like in Michael Jackson’s thriller video.

Best laugh I’ve had all day! Man, I can’t speak for the country as a whole, but those Germans can’t dance to save their lives! What an amazing display of lack of rythm!

I think it’s just a low-quality video, and the music doesn’t sync up to his dancing right. Also, anyone know how to say West Side Story auf Deutsch.

Vera is dead meat, Jardine is going to hurt him.
by Rubberman on Jul 28, 2008 10:06 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He’s going to hurt Vera’s foot with his face. Or maybe his knee. No one has ever hurt Vera, Jardine sure aint going to. Even if Vera keeps fighting cautious like he has been , he will beat Jardine. If he gets his shit together, he will destroy him in the first round. I think it about time Vera gets his shit together.

Jardine has some of the best KO in UFC history, to bad it was him getting KO, I;m watching it just to see him get KO.
by Diego on Jul 28, 2008 10:15 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Here’s what will happen…Jardine’s herky-jerky style won’t confuse Vera at all, abd he’ll jump on him w/ his wicked Muay Thai stand-up just like Houston Alexander jumped on him with his heavy bombs. That will be the end for Jardine’s status as a contender and will be relegated to gatekeeper status. Sorry Dean of Mean, you’re just too unmean for my boy Vera. He ain’t scared of anyone, not even Machida! I’m sure they’ll meet down the road…

the ufc website hasn’t made any of those fights official yet they already have 5 good fights so one will be bumped off
only thing is sokou vs cane and gono vs hardy is official meaning davis vs kelly will be bumped off

If Vera cuts weight right he wins by first round TKO. This fight is too important for Vera to lose…He’s gonna come out hard and somebody gonna get hurt real bad…somebody.

Joe Silva needs to put this fight together: Chris Lytle vs Marcus Davis. Davis just lost to swick, so there won’t be any contender status being held up. The ufc just needs to remember to have plently of towels on hand to mop up all the blood. Both of those guys cut easily and all both of them want to do is stand and trade awesome powerful punches and kicks. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

LOL people on here keep saying that Vera hasnt showed them enough to think he can beat Jardine? LOL what has Jardine shown us in his last three fights? He can out point an (In my opinion) a depressed and un-motivated Liddell, who had lost his belt in his last fight. Granted a win over Liddell is what is, and its something only four guys have ever done. In jardines last four fights he is 2-2 A tko over Forrest, a KO loss to Houston, A dec over Liddell, and then a KO loss to Wandy. So seeing as how they have both been less than stellar as of late. Im taking the guy who, has better striking, who is faster and has heavier hands. Vero TKO round 1
by LOKIE on Jul 29, 2008 9:37 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
gotta agree with you here but his fight against forest was ok!
brandon on the other hand hasnt been that impressive at all he was dominated by big tim and even more so by fabricio werdum and he struggled with reese andy
by the heat on Jul 29, 2008 10:09 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, but he also broke his hand against Tim, and in the Andy fight I think he feard the takedown, while feeling out how he felt at 205. Now I wont make excuses for him, especially with a broken hand, people have found ways to win with broken hands before, most recent being Vitor. I just think Vera is better at every aspect of striking than Jardine except maybe leg kicks, but thats not going to win him this fight
