thanks dana for not showing this on a saturday when there are no other mma cards to watch. i’d just hate it if there were mma cards on every weekend, wouldn’t the rest of you? lol, yeah right! the only time dana cares about giving the fans something free to watch is when another promotion has already beat him to the punch for that specific weekend. when there are no affliction or elitexc cards on, there won’t be any free ufc on spike. dana white’s a chump!!!

Straight up chef!
I did not know a “Chump” could be so sucsessfull..Not to mention I remember watching Free UFN’s before there was an EliteXC/Pro-Elite or Affliction…

actually i love that he put it on it will be perfect for the long intro and long commercials on cbs, making the night alot better thanks dana

Good call!..I hate watching commercials, and will definitely be flipping over to Spike during the breaks..
-Thanks Dana!

Good call. I will be recording it anyway but that will provide good filler for all the BS.

maybe college football should hold its national title game on the same night as the superbowl. the other bcs bowls the same nights as the afc and nfc conference championships
by deuce 4 on Jul 25, 2008 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions
deuce 4, although I can see your point, it is flawed logic. first and foremost, the UFC is a business. And although competition may be good for the fan and the sport as a whole, a business NEVER wants to lose ANY market share to a competitor. Remember, Dana is not responsible to the sport as a whole (although none have done more than him/UFC for the sport as a whole). He is a businessman who is responsible for protecting/expanding the UFC brand. That’s his job. He doesn’t come on to MMAMANIA and think to himself,“Gee whiz, I was going to put this card on this date, but a couple of anonymous guys on the internet might think I’m being a jerk, so perhaps I’ll reconsider.” He is responding to competition, which is healthy for the sport, and just as importantly, good for all of us MMA addicts.
by chefdaddy on Jul 25, 2008 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions
And remember, there are only 4-5 college bowl games worth a sh*t anyways:Rose, Gator, Cotton, Sugar and Fiesta. That system is so diluted, I could pool 20 bucks from each of my neighbors and find two college teams to play in my front yard.lol. and the AFC and NFC are both part of the NFL, it wouldn’t compete with itself.
by chefdaddy on Jul 25, 2008 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Right that comparison would be if Dana tried to cock block the WEC
by Smokes on Jul 25, 2008 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Don’t forget that the NFL likes to crush their competition also. They even lost a lawsuit by the USFL and although they were only forced to pay three dollars they were found guilty.

This is it! Re-live the moment. The moment when Sean Sherk “died”…Next shout out will be “GSP/Jon Fitch, you’re dead!!”…IMO, anybody in the WW class will truly have a hard time handling the prodigy. He’s just one freakish dude! Imagine what Joe Rogan always says, about Penn bein so flexible that his foot could touch his head! Sick freak!!
by TheNegation on Jul 25, 2008 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions
This was an awesome night of MMa!! UFC84 was great!, but I will be watching the EliteXC CBS event..Its not too shabby of a card.
by Stagger-Lee on Jul 25, 2008 10:06 AM EDT reply actions
Yeah, it was probably the best event of the entire year so far.
Gorenj Reljik was awesome, so was Soko. I thouight Machida’s performance was incredible…Its always great to see Wanderlei back to his normal self, and who can forget the performance of the year so far, BJ Penn’s DOMINATION over Sherk!
Great event, but I will be watching EliteXC, which is providing us a real mma card, minus all the freakshow’s that they are known for!
I mentioned this earlier but, I will post it again because I think its a great idea. I dont believe that Tim Sylvia is signed exclusively to any organization. He may be signed to ADrenaline, but since they are a crappy organization they will probably be happy to lend him out to other organizations. I would like to see Tim challeng BigFoot Sylvia on the October CBS EliteXC card. THat would be an awesome fight between 2 Giants and I would love to see that fight. The only problem that I can see is that Sylvia comes with a big price tag and I dont know if EliteXC can afford to pay him.
Other EliteXC news, I hear that they have a deal almost in place with FOX sports Network, to also start airing some of their events.
In addition, I read this morning that EliteXC plans on starting to have pay per view events, early in 2009!
by john on Jul 25, 2008 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions
john, I thought Timmy had a 3 fight contract aswell as Fedor, AA, Babalu and Barnett..
I dont remember where I heard that, but I thought Affliction signed all these fighters for 3 fights..And that they would put on 3 cards, and go from there??…
If not?….I still think they(Affliction) will have Timmy on their next card…Because you are right..EXC cant afford Timmy right now..And I think they would rather push for Tito, then Timmy to help on ratings..
I think both Tito and Timmy will be on the next Affliction card.
by Stagger-Lee on Jul 25, 2008 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions
timmy is technically signed to M-1 which is owned by his manager Monte Cox.
by James S on Jul 25, 2008 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, what I understood was:
Timmy signed to Adrenaline (which is a crappy organization that wont mnind lending Timmy out to any organization that has a big fight for him, because like u guys said, the company is owned by his manager anyway, so MOnte Cox will get a cut from Tim’s fights in other organizations anywhere. Tim would probably be a Big DRaw in DREAM, think about it, they love Freakshows in Japan, and Tim is king Freakshow, just look at him. Rothwell is signed with them as well.
I also thought that Aleks, Fedor, Vitor, Babalu, Lindland, Arlovski, Barnett, Nogueira were are signed to Affliction under 3 fight contracts…all these guys will compete at affliction 2, but I dont think Tim and Rothwell are Guaranteed to be competing at that event, but I could be wrong.
I hear that New fighters have been signed to Affliction and that the Affliction 2 card has been finalized already, which should mean that it will be released to the public, sometime soon!
by john on Jul 25, 2008 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions
he signed a three fight contract but it is non exclusive and so is his contract with affliction
by matt on Jul 25, 2008 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions
I would like to see Timmy in Dream. You are 100% correct, the Japanese would eat him up!!..
Tim/Sergie, Tim/Cro Cop or Tim/Hunt are fights I have wanted to see for a while now.
I have never really been a Tim fan, but I am glad he left the UFC..There are so many fighters I wanted to see Tim fight that he couldn’t when he was in the UFC..
I think the next Affliction card will have Tim/Barnett-just a guess-
If the rumors are not true about Aleks?, I would not mind Timmy/Aleks(which I have wanted to see for years now) or Aleks/Barnett which would be great aswell..
imo- I think the next card will be.
Fedor/AA
Timm/Barnett
Ortiz/Babalu or Nog/Babalu
Vitor/Lindland
Aleks/Rothwell
It doesn’t really matter because I am SOLD with the Fedor/Arlovski fight..
Viva la Affliction!
by Stagger-Lee on Jul 25, 2008 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions
Stager : u r right! Fedor vs. Arlovski is enough, everything else is just icing on the cake

All Hail the Russian Emperor and his Brazilian generals of war[Vitor and Sobral]! they will prevail still in the next Affliction event, I’m sure of it!
by TheNegation on Jul 25, 2008 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions
I’ve seen every UFC. UFC 84 is my favorite by far. 6 out of 10 of the best light heavyweights on one card! Plus Sherk vs. Penn. If you havn’t seen this for some odd reason, I strongly advise you to see it.
by Josh H. on Jul 25, 2008 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions
I’m tellin’ ya, UFC 87 will be just aas explosive, if not more!
by TheNegation on Jul 25, 2008 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions
No, I dont think so! THe main fights on UFC 87 will be just as explosive but the other fights wont come close to UFC 84….Everysingle fight that was aired from that card was amazing:
Sokoudjou fight (AMAZING)
THiago Silva (Amazing)
Gorenj Rejlik (amazing)
UFC 87 should be a very good card, but I dont think it can be as good as UFC 84 was….that was an Instant Classic.
I hope they find a way to air the Ben “Ross Gellar” Saunders fight against J-Roc…..I like both these young fighters but I think Ben will be a stud….His body gives him an advantage over all welterweights that he will fdace in the UFC….after he gains some more skills and experience, he will be one tough Mofo! He laughs his way through a fight…thats not normal! lol I think he is very mentally strong and has the right mind to be a fighter. THats why I give him a chance of becoming something special!
by john on Jul 25, 2008 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Well I think so John. You could just imagine Ken-Flo and Huerta goin’ at it. Plus Lesnar and the “Krazy Hoarse” will be bashin’ each other up. And of course, the GSP fight.
But I agree w/u that the UFC 84 card was stacked too. Like my man Thiago “The Slitter” Silva and the unknown Reljik[I didn’t know about that guy till that point], I admit I was screamin’ when Thiago went down. Fortunately, he weathered the Mendes storm!

john, Stagger, VM and all the rest of you, we need to give Phil a nickname for his first cage match, lmfao, so let the suggestions flow. Keep it nice now, no “Rainbow Bright”, or “Creepy Phil”, or Phil “the Wet Blanket.” This should be funny!

Stagger-Lee, I think they are showing it twice in a row if you are interested. I can’t wait to watch it. I was there live and have yet to see it on TV. I am most interested to see how Gouveia and Machida matches looked.
by BNF on Jul 25, 2008 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions
thanks for the heads up BNF, I will be sure to rewatch it once i am done with ElitexC
by john on Jul 25, 2008 10:54 AM EDT up reply actions
BNF, Thanks.
That is what they did last weekend. UFN was on twice in a row. So after I watched Afflictions ppv, I watched UFN directly after…MMa from 8pm to 3am..
I think Spike airs it back to back, cause Dana knows that he cant lure every MMa fan away from EliteXC or Affliction…He knows there are some hardocre MMa fans(like me) that will watch the other program, and this way he still gets the ratings…Good idea-business wise-.
by Stagger-Lee on Jul 25, 2008 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions
Stagger, I am on the West Coast and have direct TV. Spike is on East Coast time, so if Dana wants it to air at the same time as XC here he has to show it twice.
Don’t forget to beginning portion of XC airs on showtime. Which makes no sense to me. And I checked last night, the showtime portion actually goes until 9:15 and the CBS starts at 9:00. Confusing to say the least. 3 channels, 3 times overlaping, I hope I get it right!
by BNF on Jul 25, 2008 11:30 AM EDT up reply actions
BNF, Yes it is very confusing indeed!
I dont get Showtime, but here in Canada they will be airing the pre-fights on the FightNetwork, so I will still get to watch BigFoot/Eilers..
by Stagger-Lee on Jul 25, 2008 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions
Machida will be more technical with his upcomin’ fight against Thiago. Thiago’s a brawler so as the sayin’ goes…“Brawl a boxer, box a brawler”!
by TheNegation on Jul 25, 2008 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m definitely watching. Its a great alternative to un-EliteXC. At least you know whats going to happen and there wont be some bullshit stoppage or 10-20 min segments between fights.

Still standing strong on that boycott, ehh??…
I understand what you mean with “bad calls”, but you should try giving them another shot..Gary “scumbag” Shaw got demoted, and I am not sure’ but I think Mirgli-badcalla is still injured, and wont be running around calling the fights..
It is a fairly decent card, and aside from the stupid dancing and WWF like promotion?, the fights are fairly solid..
The Lawler/Smith fight should be great, and Shields is going to finally be the WW champ(i hope)…

I just want to see Wandy KTFO of Jardine one last time hehe. I think I will watch Jardine/Wandy and Penn/Sherk, maybe even Thiago Silva as well, but the rest I will be watching EliteXC.

I would DVR UFC 84, put I want to purchase the DVD which will be released soon because UFC 84 had a couple of great fights on the undercard that were never aired.
iN MY POST ABOVE, i forgot to Mention THiago Silva’s performance! It was a great fight against a great fighter, Antonio Mendez (who will make some noise in the UFC).
by john on Jul 25, 2008 10:20 AM EDT up reply actions
That’s a great fight John…no way in hell I gave Antonio any cred before UFC84.. He laced Thiago Silva with nasty head kick.. Thaigo was drugged..props to him for staying in it.. now they should be a forcast of what will be in the Lyoto vs Thaigo fight.. Where Antonio F’d in was..when he wanted to Judo throw Thiago and get him on the mat..Why?? If you were dominating so much in thestand up. Well in Lyoto’s case..he will getthe better of Thiago in the stand up..and once it hits the ground Lyoto will be move to move with Thiago.. so if Thiago is stunned when hitting the ground.. or vice versa.. the figh will soon end after that.

I’ll have to watch this one again. I’ll give the Machida fight another chance, maybe after a few beers and what not I didn’t give it a fair assessment. But I just remember it as a boring fight. I can def sacrifice 36 seconds to watch the Wanderlei fight again and Penn vs Sherk was a good one too.

I’ll give the Machida fight another chance. There’s always the possibility that after a few beers I didn’t give it a fair assessment. I just remember it as a boring/unimpressive fight, but I won’t be drinking this weekend so we’ll see. The Wanderlei fight I can definatley sacrifice 36 seconds for. And maybe Penn vs Sherk. Not really all that excited about the elite xc fight, just the lawler/smith rematch mainly. Judging from the betting odds Diaz is gonna kill Denny, but then again I’ve never seen the Wildman fight so I don’t really know. A lot of those match’s looked lop sided but never can tell I guess.

that is lame of the UFC (Dana White). They are scared of competition
by FJ on Jul 25, 2008 10:52 AM EDT reply actions
lol, why exactly? Is Dana going to say, “O well, I hav worked my ass off for the last 15 years to get myself, UFC and MMA to where it is now, and since the money is starting to roll in properly now, I think I will hand it all over for free to EliteXC and other competition, yes, the ones that only started recently to cash in on my success and profits and hardwork.”
Seriously, try and use your head. Of course they are concerned about competition, every single sports organisation in the world is to some degree. Is it lame? LOL, of course not,.
by Adam on Jul 25, 2008 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions
Anyway, I’ll give the Machida fight a second chance, maybe after a few too many beers I didn’t give it a fair assessment. I won’t be drinking this weekend so we’ll see.. I just remember it as a boring/unimpressive fight. The Wanderlei fight I can definatley sacrifice 36 seconds to watch. And the Penn vs Sherk fight I’ll definatley catch. As far as elite xc a lot of the match ups just look lop sided. I’m interested in the smith/lawler rematch but just looking at the odds on the betting things don’t seem evenly matched. How can Diaz be -600 and even expect a competitive fight? I’ve never seen the Wildman fight, so I can’t say for sure, but thats pretty sad chance’s right there.

You really can’t expect Dana not to air something. You know Spike will air whatever he wants.
I’m sure Elite’s card will do a lot better come Saturday, just because it is new.

I dont think Dana had to do this. ratings will be down regardless because of the boxing match between Margarito vs Cotto. bad weekend that Elite XC picked I will be watching the boxing match and I prefer MMA but this fight is a cant miss type of fight.

Air something but air something new. EliteXC card is good and it is live. I think a live UFC would do much better against EliteXC than it did against a stacked Affliction card. I will be watching EliteXC.
