MMA Quick Quote: Nick Diaz on fighting in Stockton hometown

"Fighting in Stockton is going to be great for me. Stockton is a great fight town because if you drive long enough on some of these roads you’ll probably see a pretty good street fight."
-- Nick Diaz talks about fighting in his hometown at the final press conference for this Saturday's (July 26) Elite XC: "Unfinished Business" event. It seems like he's confident and relaxed heading into his lightweight fight against Thomas "Wildman" Denny tomorrow evening on CBS live from the Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif. Pretty funny stuff from "Diablo."

He is out of his mind!! I hear that Diaz vs. Mach fight for DREAM 6 is not official! Anyone know if they will fight each other in SEptember for sure or not? THat is a must see fight and it will be ashame to miss out on that fight because of a whack Thomas Denny fight.
hopefully, Diaz vs. Noons wiol be booked for the October show because If Noons defends his title against anyone else, for Instance, Eddie Alvarez, he will get dominated and the belt will be back where itr belongs…..PHILLY PHILLY!!! I really want to see Noons/diaz and I think that the Noons shouldn’t be allowed to defend his title against anyone else until he puts that strap on the Line against Diablo! After all, can anyone say he really deserves that belt? he didnt win it by KO/submission/Decuision, he won it via Cuts…THats BS and Diaz needs to get his hands on KJ “the nancy boy” Noons.
After Nick wins that belt back, I would like to see his 1st defense be against Eddie Alvarez in what could become a fight of the year candidate!

Nick Diaz vs. Eddie Alvarez.. now that would be an instant MMA classic. On KJ Noons.. he should know himself he really didn’t defeat Nick.. granted a cut is a cut and a cut stops a fight..but that is not how you want to win a belt.. look at Vitor vs Couture part2.. Vitor grazes Couture’s eyelid with his glove.. his eye lid get’s cut open.. fights over.. Vitor is the the UFC Champ.. rematch.. Vitor couldn’t go to his corner after the 3rd set.. cuz of the beating Couture was disihing out.. I see the same thing happening to KJ Noons.. plus his is too F’n cocky.. confidence is one thing.. being cocky is another.. and that’s how he has been coming since getting that gold strapped around his waist.. and he said he feels Nick should get an immediate tiltle shot.. like who would be considered over Nick Diaz at that weight in EliteXC.. KJ should even have a choice in the matter..if I was KJ I would only want to fight Nick to prove to myself.. to know.. yep I wooped his ass.

Great post, I agree. A win is a win, but like u said a cut is no way of proving yourself as a champion and he should WANT to fight Diaz, but its obvious that he wants no part of Nick.
Part of being a champion is shuting your mouth and defending the title against whoever the organization that he are representing, decides is the #1 contender! As a champion, HE SHOULD HAVE NO SAY in who he is fighting, and him weasling his way out of a puting his belt on the line by saying that Nick doesnt deserve a title shot is just Crap and it makes me loose all respect for KJ. Lets be real, who the hell is KJ to think he is some proven champion and that others dont deserve a fight? Not to long ago he got KTFO, by Crazy Horse Benett, who is tough, but would probably never beat a top 10 fighter.
KJ is a joke, and no matter if he fights Eddie Alvarez or Dick Diaz, he is still LOOSING that title! THe real title fight will be Eddie Alvarez vs. Nick Diaz….Phil, like u said, it has instant classic written all over it!

Diaz/Alvarez would be crazy!! I would love to see that..If Noons wasn’t such a pussy, this fight would happen sooner then later..
I watched that Noons/krazy horse fight live, when EXC was just starting..That was the first time I saw KJ, and I NEVER liked him back then either.I already knew of Charles Bennett from PrideFC, and I always like watching “the horse” get down. So I was already routing agianst KJ.
I watched the press-conference before the fight, and that was the first time I herd KJ talk, and I immediately did not like him.
I was glad to see “the horse” bang him out!!
Noons is a horrible champ!!You cant be the Champ, and duck fighters!!Thats why Nog is the HW champ and not Randy-imo.

The Diaz’s are my favorite fighters, but I am fealing quite pessimistic about Nick nowadays. It may be so I don’t set myself up for a letdown, but Nick has not looked very good in his last few fights. In fact, he hasn’t looked good in any of his EliteXC fights. The only times he looked good since leaving the UFC was against Gomi in PRIDE and when he fought Annoule or whomever in DREAM. Nick actually prefers fighting in a ring.
Everytime that Wildman Denny has fought a fighter that is known in the mma world, he loses. The lone exception being Tony Frykland, but Tony lost 6 of his last 9 fights, so he don’t really count. Wildman has lost to GSP, Duane Ludwig, Yves Edwards, Joe Stevenson and a couple other people that you may have heard of like Alex Karalexis.
Nick Diaz is definitely and establishd MMA fighter with a name. I hope that Nick isn’t overlooking Denny because that seems to be what he’s been doing as of late. Not really training and just relying on his talent. Doesn’t he know that the Karo approach to fighting does not work? And Nick has to have some of the worst takedowns. Its like his skills have regressed.
At -600 I still have yet to include Diaz on my parlay. It doesn’t add much value, and he is by no means a guaranteed win. Wildman is going to come into this fight ready to go with nothing to lose.
What does everyone think about the Shields fight? Does anyone see The Goat pulling off the upset? Its not out of the question. Jake’s strategy in this fight should be to GnP him until its over.
Tomorrow, I like the favorites to win Feijao, Silva, Shields, Lawler, and Diaz however, like I said, Nick is almost definitely getting left off of that parlay. Too high of a rish for too little of a reward. Besides, I don’t need money wagered to be jumping up and down screaming while Nick is fighting!

ViolentMike, I agree 100% with your break-down on, the Diaz of late..
The only fight he looked good in ‘lately, was in dream, and he was way bigger then that dude…
I dont know what the hell is going on with Nick these days, and I am worried with the way he has been fighting ’that he is bound to get KTFO one of these days…I love both Diaz bro’s, and have been a fan of Nick for some time, but you are right(unfortunatly) it seems like his skills have been “reversed”…
His lackluster performence’s and his telegraphed-sloppy- take-downs are sure to get him KO’d…He better have already realized this and hopefully fixed the problem..
As far as Shield’s fight goes?-imo
Shields has come way to far, and been through way too much bullshit, just to lose this fight..I hope Diaz fighting “lack-luster” has not rubbed off on his crew, cause we already saw Gil lose his belt..
WAR SHIELDS!!!GET THAT STRAP- you deserve it!
by Stagger-Lee on Jul 25, 2008 11:50 AM EDT up reply actions
I will tell u guys whats wrong with Nick these days. Its actually qite simple…He fighst too much and doesnt enjoy the luxary of a full training camp for any of his fights. UFC fighters fight on average every 4 months. that way they get a month off after a fight, then they build themselves back up to top form with a 8-10 week training camp. Nick does not do this, thats why is performances have been lacking!
by john on Jul 25, 2008 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Sheilds should win but he has a very tough fight ahead of him. The Goat is capable of an upset, but its not likely. Also, dont count out scott Smith, kid as some serious power so we always have to give him the punchers chance.

Roy: Right now, I would have to pick Alvarez over Diaz!
by john on Jul 25, 2008 12:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Absolutely, if the fight stayed standing.
Nick’s only shot at winning would be to keep pulling guard.
by ViolentMike on Jul 25, 2008 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah, I also have a feeling that Eddie will have real good submission defense. After all he was preparing for a match up with Aoki….so he had to have been working submission defense like a mad man!

y does everyone think noons is a bad sport and he may be cocky yes but diaz is just plain arrogant and a terrible sport in every fight hes in..
by coolguy on Jul 25, 2008 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions
Well we like Diaz’s brand of arrogance better than Noons’. Nancy boy just looks like a poser actin’ cocky, hehehe!!

rofl he ain’t joking though everytime i’ve gone to stockton (over 100 now) i have seen a damn good street brawl, and theres ironically a sweet drug bust like 3 blocks down the road too..
but stockton also has a rich part over the univ of the pacific so it aint all bad

Really man. I went there a couple times with my cousin for the CIF State wrestling championships, and Stockton isn’t really anything to brag about. I grew up in a rough part of Long Beach, but Stockton is just a dump cow town.
by the_mexicutioner on Jul 25, 2008 9:48 AM EDT up reply actions
you went to the university bro that’s in the richer part.. the other side of stockton is all gang warfare very few high parts to stockton but maybe the fishing in the area is great
by randy murders on Jul 25, 2008 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions
very few “high parts” of Stockton. Like maybe the Diaz households? lol

He’s -600, I don’t see how he’ll lose unless he just doesnt’ show up to fight that night, which is something I’ve never seen him do.

all the opium in America is BS anyway….Its basically Hash…..its nothing like the real Opium that gets smoked in other countries.
Oxycontin and Heroin = BAD!!
Perks = Tasty! :)

He’ll show up stoned as hell and see things in slow-mo. That’s why he’ll win. He’ll see the fight in “Matrix-time”!

The guy has problems! He probably got the head issue’s from growing up in Stockton Ca. i live in the Bay and everyone knows that if you want to talk gangster lets drop his has off in Richmond and see if he makes to El Ceritto. His and always will be a punk gangster wanna be.
by Kahaluu Caz!!!!!! on Jul 25, 2008 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions
I do agree, but i would not say that to his face.
by NewGuyTheGunMan on Jul 25, 2008 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Yah man. Right in the middle of the Iron Triangle! It’s always funny when people from the small towns think they’re hard. I grew up in San Jose and when I went to college at Chico I laughed my ass off at the locals trying to seem tuff. Same thing here. He’s a tough mofo in the ring, but he’s a punk.
by OscarMayer on Jul 25, 2008 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions

ay i can appreciate a good random scrap over some real beef. while waiting hella lit, i seen this black dude pile drive this mexican dude at the burrito truck in the town OAK. mexican dude was drunk n talkin down on the guy and just set the black dude off. my boy over there was just instigating the shiz out of it until it sparked off. mexican dude was out cold on the concrete. dayam. sucks when you hear shots go off tho.
This is Denny’s biggest chance of his career. He better not back down if Diaz weigh more. he need to put his name on the map. all that matters is the Sakurai fight in P-DREAM if that ever happens.
by kama kaze on Jul 25, 2008 7:49 PM EDT reply actions
awww my comment didn’t get posted. well. just stay on your toes when u go to any burrito truck in east oak thirtys, clubbin hours, hella fights there and be ready to stop duck and run cuz shots will pop off, sideshows and try the $1.25 soft tacos. they r good wit 40z.
