Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson arrested at gunpoint on felony hit and run charges

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was today arrested in Costa Mesa, Calif., on suspicion of felony evading, hit-and-run and reckless driving, according to DailyPilot.com.
Jackson -- who has a massive pick-up truck with his image plastered on various sides -- apparently fled the scene of an accident and then continued to weave in and out of traffic and allude police, causing at least one more collision before coming to a stop, according to a separate SI.com report.
Images show that his tire is absolutely shredded.
Here's and account from DailyPilot.com:
"Jackson, the driver of a lifted, gray pick-up truck left crashed cars, shredded tires and sparks in his wake this afternoon when he led police on a short pursuit from the southbound 55 freeway exit onto Newport Boulevard where he hit at least three cars, police said.
The driver hit two cars at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard, then drove away at about 1:13 p.m., Lt. Paul Dondero said. A Costa Mesa police officer saw the driver southbound approaching 17th Street and tried to pull him over, police said. There, he hit at least one more car before continuing to run, now heading south toward the Balboa Peninsula, Dondero said. Some time after that, the truck blew a tire but continued to drive on its rims, Dondero said.
Jackson eventually gave up, pulled over and was arrested, police said. The whole chase lasted about five minutes, Dondero said."
Fortunately, no one was injured throughout the incident. He is being held on $25,000 bail.
Jackson recently lost his 205-pound belt to Forrest Griffin via unanimous decision in a thrilling five-round battle at UFC 86: "Jackson vs. Griffin" at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 5. The UFC is aware of his arrest; however, has not issued a statement at this time.
Stay tuned for more details on this developing story.

On one of the pics, his front left tire is completely gone. Toyo Tires might not be too happy about that picture.

And those are some big tuff offroad tires. So for him to tear that front one up like that, he must have been hitting those cars at high speed.

He wont serve any jail time, so its not that big of a deal. He will probably just loose his license and be on probabtion. Its an ugly situation, but nothing to loose sleep over.
He might have thought that the cop was Forrest trying to blast him with some more leg kicks.

“john” – you are downplaying this situation. Look at the charges he now faces. Look at the probable punishment he faces. Then, think about the long term consequences this could/will have on his career as a professional athlete in the United States (ie. sponsorships, etc).
It’s a big deal…Rampage has not done himself any favours.

HE WONT DO ANY JAIL TIME!!! and that is the most important thing! Would it have been better if this situation didnt happen? Of Course, but it wont change much!
Any time a pro athlete gets in trouble it is magnified by a thousand. what did he really do? Crash into a couple of cars and not pull over for a few minutes…..Not that Big of a deal to me, and I guarentee that he wont do any Jail time! He will be just fine!
by john on Jul 16, 2008 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
john, i agree he likely won’t serve any jail time, but i do think you are playing this down a tad.
the first thing i thought of was people evade the police for 1 of 3 reasons: 1. they are intoxicated or on drugs; 2. they are carrying drugs (whether they be steroids, HGH, weed, whatever); or 3. they are having a moment of crisis (flipping out, etc., which likely requires at minimum a psychiatric evaluation, or worse a vacation in South Africa, ala Dave Chappelle). people DO NOT evade the police simply because they are stupid, especially in such a recognizable car (plus, i don’t think Page is stupid).
if his blood tests clean and if he’s found psychologically normal, i still gotta wonder if he was trying to ditch drugs. i’m not accusing him, i’m just saying that i gotta wonder. this wasn’t simply a joy ride.

John are you completely insane? Its not a big deal? Felony hit and run IS a big deal! Jackson endangered numerous lives, including his own, for what??? I know you’re a Rampage nut hugger but now you are just being stupid. In your world, committing at least one felony and endangering peoples lives is: “Not that Big of a deal to me, and I guarentee that he wont do any Jail time! He will be just fine!”.. You have obviously never lost a family member in a traffic accident that was caused by some stupid asshole that ran from the police. Get some common sense John.

Randy, you can’t really be serious. Rampage hit 3 cars, and ran from the cops. On top of that, when he was arrested ,at gunpoint, it was in front of what seems to be paparazzi, and is now on various websites and probably the news. This looks MUCH worse. Not to mention he was recently a champion, not some douche bag on a tv show.

Arnold, I am with you….I just dont even care about this situation. Whenever an athlete gets in any trouble, everyone gets on there high and mighty horse and starts bashing him…..I could care less! He didnt hurt anybody, so who the F cares…. it was just bad judgement.
He wont be suspended or anything like that! Do u guys want this to turn into the NFL, where guys get suspended for everything? Brushes with the law will happen, this really is not that big of a deal, but it will be blown out of proportion by the media and bloggers.
To compare this to what JT Money did is just ridiculous!
by john on Jul 16, 2008 10:19 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Very true john, JT’s not that good and higher ratings are the only reasons why Dana punished him. It helped market the fight that really didn’t do so great on ratings before the “horrible” incident in Dana’s Town.
These guys beat the shit out of each other for a living. A lot of the fighters are crazy, wild, and don’t give a fuck; that’s why they fight for a living and we watch it. I don’t want to see federal regulators ruin this great sport.
BTW – what’s with Rampage being accused of being a bad role model? What type of parent wants thier kid to immulate a fighter? Fuck Dana and his action figure marketing campagn. Fighters should not be accuntable to “PG” standards.

He only crashed into cars, fled the scene, hit more cars, fled the scene, had OJ in the back seat trying to get him to the airport, his front vanity plate says “Al Cowlings is my co-pilot”, did not pay a toll, ran over a papparozzi’s foot, and Britney tried to stop him by attacking his truck with an umbrella. I heard the chase was so bad that Jesse kicked out his window trying to get out of the truck. And when he reached into his pocket for his ID all he could find was his Race Card. rampage will not be in the ufc again for a long time, but hey, on the bright side he is 30, plenty of fight time left! wtf was he thinking, fantastic fighter with unlimited skill, had no doubt he would have got his title bck!! obviously the only thing is can the ufc suspend him for a year, would love to kno his contract details, cause no doubt if he was fired he would be automatically be picked up by elite xc, who woould try anything for ratings, dont think afflication would go for him, upstart promotion and all that, who knows, seriously cant wait to find out the reason behind this, plus danas reaction!!!!!

Seriously what goes through these celeberties heads? Like he couldn’t afford the insurance deductable he’d have to pay for being at fault in the collision? Now he’s gonna have a way larger fine and possible jail time probably.
by GSP4Prez on Jul 15, 2008 10:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
don’t forget his insurance deductable goes up way more if he can even get a license now which probably won’t happen
but on the bright side for the cops he wasnt in the audi R8 he has or they woulda never caught him, unless he killed himself in it

Very strange. Thankfully no one got hurt. Rampage has a lot of explaining to do.

This must be a publicity stunt by Dana and the UFC to steer attention away from Affliction’s “Banned” card on Saturday night! I can’t belive Rampage went along with it. Too funny. Seriously, I hope Rampage isn’t having his Lindsay Lohan moment now that he’s in the public eye, I guess we’ll see a pantyless crotch shot next as he exits his truck and the next big UFC after party!
by Ray on Jul 15, 2008 10:52 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Not good publicity for Toyo Tires. In a perverse way, this may actually not be bad publicity for Rampage.

so acording to dave meltzer dana flew out there to post bail already!

Pretty dumb move. To do something that stupid makes me fear that Rampage might have other issues (bipolar, manic depressive, etc.). He seems like a genuinely good dude, I hope he can get past this…

You really think Dana is not going to make a Rampage/Forrest 2? Dana is a whore, if you promise him millions of dollars he will open his mouth. Thats a great card if Forrest still has the belt.
Also, this has nothhhhing to do with the UFC. Rampag effed up, yes. But did he eff up and call Dana a jive turkey during a live show? No… he did it during his personal time… What is Dana going to do? Fire him? Rampage? Once again, revert back to my whore comment. That would be like firing Chuck Liddel…
I also fail to understand why noone seems to understand that Rampage was capable of this…. It really does not shock me at all..
by Chris on Jul 15, 2008 11:56 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Page is gonna be fine. He probably wont even do any jail time. Really stupid move on his part but it wont effect anything. He’ll be fight by the end of this year or early ’09.

Not much to say that has not been said. Alot of the general public may not have known who he was before his stint on TUF. This story is in the major newspapers now, and I don’t see how this will not hurt MMA, and specificly the UFC. Thank God no one was hurt, for every reason.
by Bob on Jul 16, 2008 1:28 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
dude all it was is a little wreckless driving that lasted like 5 minutes. The felony charges will get tossed and he’ll make a deal for a bunch of probo and a huge fine. Look this is the OC, they just want their money. Page ain’t going anywhere. Look at Leben. He did jail time and fought like 4 weeks later. Page will probably still fight at the 90 card in Chi-town.
by Anthony on Jul 16, 2008 1:35 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If Rampage is driving like that he must have spent too much time in Japan.

Why dont we just wait till we hear the full story behind the whole situation rather than kickin rampage at this point, it doesnt help him, it doesnt help his fans and it doesnt help mma, i just hope there was a plausible reason for doing somethin like this

Page was let go after posting 25K bail.. Dana took his private jet over to Cali.. to get his boy out of there. I would like to hear his reactions on this matter. Will we see Page/Wandi 3 or Shogun/Page 2.. hummmm..I don’t know. with the way UFC markets things… I still see Page in the UFC. On the surface this is not good for business. Maybe Dana can flip things to work out in his favor.
by PhilQNY on Jul 16, 2008 9:03 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I won’t believe it until I see something on UFC.com!!! :P
You have to wonder what the hell was going on with him. In a way I feel bad for the guy, he looses his title and now this. But then I don’t feel bad because you have to know how to conduct yourself. Dana had better make Page suffer some consequences or he can stick all of his “do you want to be a fighter” and lectures to Jessie Taylor up his ass. What Taylor did was wrong, but this if f’ng awful in comparison.

First off:
What a idiot! No excuse for this, no emergency, nothing. Damm drinking would come off better, but no drugs and no alchohol, just plain stupidity.
There goes thousands upon thousands of endorsement money.
Maybe he is booted from the UFC, which would be only for PR purposes. I’m sure Dana would rather not, but they may have to, then some other 2nd rate org gets to come in and act like they care about the fighters and believe in 2nd chances.
He had just got a boat load of amazing exposure in the Ultimate fighter and being a UFC champ and WFT was he thinking.
Guess we dont have to worry about forest Vs Jackson II! No way in hell he gets a shot anytime this year.
Just stupid, unless he has some serious mental issue then there is no explanation for such a thing.
People will try to compare this to the Taylor situation, but the big diff is Taylor happened on the UFC dime and Time. Jackson’s was personal.

I’m continually astounded by the idiocy of these star atheletes. This is a major blemish on the character of the UFC as it’s attempting to solidify itself as the #3 sport in our counrty. And, Dana’s hypocracy is now in the public eye. Sure Dana, strip a kid of the biggest chance of his life because he acted like a dumb kid and kicked out a window (after the show was over) but run and bail out Rampage after multiple hit an runs, eluding the police, wreckless driving and the list goes on. Thank goodness no one got hurt but that does not lessen what he did. It’s only a matter of time until we see what he was under the influence of. It ought to be a long time before we see him fight again, or maybe not again, if they (the UFC) want to continue up the american sports ladder. Removing him would be the greatest sign that the UFC wants to be a major sporting player in America and will not tolerate things like this. There are other places he can fight so I’m not suggesting we strip him of his livelyhood. However, this is inexcusable and I hope there are significant repercussions and that we don’t see yet another star athelete get off because they are popular and have money.

The UFC as your points are valid will not let go of Rampage.. he has too much star value for Zuffa.. If this was Kalib Starnes.. the they would cut him loose..but it’s not. It’s the recent former UFC LHW Champ.. " the guy who Knocked out Chuck Lidell..like that ( the thing with the finger )…Look at the NFL.. Jsut look at the Bengals.. Or PAc man with Dallas.. Page will not get let go.

Rampage must have lost his mind. I am sure we will be back but this will definitely hinder his shot at the title. In the end I am sure we won’t do any jail time but a bunch of community service and probably suspension of his licence. However if I was one of his sponsors I would definetly being taking a second look at him. In the end he will sit down and do a long interview with Joe Rogan on spike and the UFC will spin this into a way to make money.

There is something really strange going on here. Did he have drugs on him? You would figure, if he did that would be one of the charges. Of course it could be take me to your dealer. Cops love that leverage, like the patriots offensive lineman. Knowing people with money and the law I can see a poor story about cough medicine and prescription drugs. Some kind of, “it could happen to anybody” story made up by powerful lawyers.
