I think the sandman is dreaming

by mrfancypants on Jul 14, 2008 9:26 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Your right… he should just say I’m lucky if I get past the first round? He believes in himself nothing wrong with that. Great night of fights!! Can’t wait!

by Robert on Jul 14, 2008 10:03 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Man he’s got a pretty hard accent.
Lots of people counting him out, don’t know why.

by Luppers on Jul 14, 2008 9:27 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’d say maybe cause he’s fighting the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world??

by MikeD on Jul 14, 2008 10:25 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

5 days to go..Affliction Banned.. UFN 14.. should be an awesome night for MMA. I like the Sandman.. he is a Tuf Mofo.. but to qoute BJ Penn.. in respects to Anderson Silva.

" It’s a bad time to fight Anderson Silva "

Phil…it is going to be an amazing night for MMA fans. This week of work can’t go fast enough. I’d have to agree with BJ Penn here. Irvin’s a tough dude with that one punch power, but Silva is just on another level. That’s not to say he can’t lose, but I need to see it to believe it right now. Meathead (Irvin) used to come over to my parents house every now and then and I still remember how big that guys head is. I can’t help but think of it as just a big target for Silva’s fists. I know Irvin has an underated ground game because we never get to see it, but I have a feeling this is ending on the ground with either Silva bashing Irvin’s face in or Irvin tapping.

I dont even care about this fight anymore! I got AFFKICTION FEVER right now!

Most inetersting fight on the card to me, is Franca vs. Edgar…

I dont expect the Silva fight to be very competitive!

by john on Jul 14, 2008 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I must say Im starting to get the fever too.

by chris on Jul 14, 2008 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m getting the fever too:

To the beat of that 80’s song that starts out like:

“I got a fever of one hundered and three
Affliction is coming and Fight Night is Free

Doo doo doo, doo doo doo, doo doo doo, doo doo doo ooooo oooooo ho hooooooooooooooooo"

LOLOL. Does anyone know the song I’m taling about.??

Don’t underestimate the powers of 70’s supergroup, Foreigner.

well…i have irvin losing a decision….or irvin by spectacular knock out by th 2nd round. now way irvin should let this go to the decision. puttin me money on him.

by santiago69us on Jul 14, 2008 9:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Anderson has been a dominant champion in his weight class while James is on no one’s list for LHW title shot. Yes Silva is stepping up to a bigger weight class and no one should ever be counted out at this level. However I just don’t think these two are on the same level in the eyes of the fans. Hardcore and casual alike.

by wAyNe on Jul 14, 2008 9:39 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I totally agree but 20 pounds is alot of weight and the Sandman is no push over!

by Robert on Jul 14, 2008 10:05 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I see this fight playing out similar to the Chris Leben/Anderson Silva fight. The Spider probably won’t destroy Irvin as easily as he did Leben, but I believe he will dominate. 2nd round stoppage due to strikes.

by Spider Rulz on Jul 14, 2008 9:39 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The good thing to point out here is that Irvin is confident, but he doesn’t sound overconfident or cocky, just confident. This will help anyone going to fight Anderson Silva, at least he wont be beat before he even steps in the cage.

by Chadx23 on Jul 14, 2008 9:41 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’d say most of anderson’s adversaries were confident when they stepped into the octagon (most, I’m not including rich here). but marquart, hendo, leben and even travis I’d say were all confident. Once those shots started to land though, their confidence went to the toilet.

oops, forgot my new name :)

by BNF'S B_tch aka LINX on Jul 14, 2008 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

travis lutter never looks confident lol

or in shape

by brendan on Jul 14, 2008 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have to say that I really like his attitude. I expect Silva to win, but I think most people are a little too sure about Silva’s win… If I was a gambler, I would be looking at a bet on Irvin, due to the odds…

by tm2k on Jul 14, 2008 2:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I can see this being a good battle. I like Irving he’s just unlucky. Leben would also last a little longer in the rematch.

by Tyler Rochon on Jul 14, 2008 9:43 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’ve got Irvin 2nd rd. KO.

by kukuxumusu on Jul 14, 2008 9:44 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

decision for silva

he wont get knocked out because he’s not stupid, james will do enough in most’s eyes to win but it will turn into a muay thai points fight and be slow and a major letdown

by randy murders on Jul 14, 2008 10:06 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

When was the last time an Anderson Silva fight was a letdown?

Irvin seems very likable and down to earth. My curiosity is piqued.

by AndFan on Jul 14, 2008 10:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i just see 2 strikers avoiding each other in a point fest, kinda like 2 wrestlers or 2 jits guys they neither one wanna get caught

by randy murders on Jul 14, 2008 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nah they both generally finish guys, one will go in for the kill at some point, this won’t go the distance one way or the other.

by O damn he got caught on Jul 14, 2008 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This fight will NOT go 3 full rounds. No way.

by ViolentMike on Jul 14, 2008 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

VM..totally agree…and if by any means through the grace of God.. it does go to a decision..( Iknow it won’t )..I also knew Forrest wouldn’t last 2 rounds with Page..breathe… but if it does go to a decision.. Irvin should be considered the winner.

by PhilQNY on Jul 14, 2008 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol i agree, they should say that to him before the fight… go to a decision and you lose silva! I said the same thing about so many fights lately “no way this goes to decision”

by brendan on Jul 14, 2008 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

cocky bastard, this guy believes himself too much.

by Ro on Jul 14, 2008 10:41 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Irvin seems like a good guy, but I a little underestimating of Silva’s talent. I think his last knockout kind of went to his head; Anderson is gunna be a lot harder to knock down than Houston. I’ve seen enough of Anderson’s ability to have faith in him winning even at a heavier weight, I think he’ll be finishing the fight on Saturday.

by Goose on Jul 14, 2008 11:19 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i got silva by submission

by Willy on Jul 14, 2008 12:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Irvin is much stronger and a more technical striker than both Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson. I believe Irvin can beat Silva at his own Muay Thai game by utilizing the clinch and superior strength. IMO Silva will NOT be able to control this beast who should weigh close to 220 lbs by fight time. Upset Special: Irvin by 2nd Rd TKO.

by BigT on Jul 14, 2008 1:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Silva’s also a muay thai fighter but more precise than Irvin. and Silva got great BJJ which Irvin lacks. don’t forget that Silva trains at Chute Boxe whci had some serious training.

by Ro on Jul 14, 2008 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

To me this is just one of those fights where it seems like a clear choice ,and people totally disregard the other fighter, and we all get shocked .I will not be surprised to see Anderson get caught ,and if he gets caught it’s over .I just got a feeling that irvin wins ,i may be the only one but i feel it coming ,it seems like everytime a fighter seems unbeatable that is right when they lose

by scott on Jul 14, 2008 1:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Irvin is going to have a huge size and strength advantage. Silva has always faced smaller opponents.

by Colin D on Jul 14, 2008 1:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Spider had taken down a 205 fighter before, this is not his first test at 205.

by Ro on Jul 14, 2008 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

also silva has said time and time again he ALWAYS trains with larger fighters than himself or his opponent

by Product on Jul 14, 2008 5:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Its funny how everyone says that his opponent has a size advantage. It’s not like Anderson is gonna be 185 still. He is fighting at 205. So they won’t have much of a size advantage. lol

by Sean_M on Jul 14, 2008 5:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he never really looked very big at 185 though… skinny frame

by brendan on Jul 14, 2008 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Irvin is gonna her wrecked…..i cant wait!!!!!!!

War Siva!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Homslice on Jul 14, 2008 2:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Anderson TKO… I’d be surprised if it goes to the 2nd round, but NO WAY it goes to the 3rd much less a decision!

by Harrison on Jul 14, 2008 3:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Now,,, that’s the cocky James Irvin I’ve seen in the past, saying something like Rich Franklin and all these other fighters are lying about their training hours!….

I can see some fighters putting in 6-8 hours a day for a period of weeks… it’s not like those hours are all vigorous workouts, lots of it could be learning new techniques, drilling, helping out training partners, watching fight videos, etc… they take breaks shoot the shit here n’ there… some of these guys are gym rats.. they’d rather hangout all day in the gym and spread their workout over the course of a 10-12 hour day rather than do anything else.

by THORAZINE on Jul 14, 2008 4:40 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

uhm he says “rich franklin has even said that people who say they train 6 hours every day are lying”

by brendan on Jul 14, 2008 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

you know this is actually a big fight.
i mean teally who actually thinks that irvin stands no chance in hell…
i sure donr
dont get me wrong i see silva winning
but i like irvin and his chsnces

by box91 on Jul 14, 2008 4:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Irvin has no chance in hell… a puncher’s chance against someone who has never been knocked out doesn’t count!

by Harrison on Jul 14, 2008 7:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

seems to me that he should interview less and train more seems like there has barely been interviews with anderson. or with fedor or timmy at that and the outher guys who have fights coming up but hey if he can find time to do both more than the other guys then good enough.

by doomdoom on Jul 14, 2008 7:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This is another easy ko victory for the sandman.

by Colin D on Jul 14, 2008 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The same Sandman that got submitted by Stephan Bonnar? If Bonnar can submit him, Anderson (a BJJ black belt under the Nogueira brothers) can definitely submit him (if he doesn’t knock Irvin out first that is)!!

by Harrison on Jul 14, 2008 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

please explain why. cause he fights in a heaveir weight class? hmm seems to me if you want you can find plenty of proff of guys beating guys much bigger than them. look what wandy did to jardine, at least jardine beat chuck who has irvin beat? no one credible. oh let me guess you pick irvin cause he’s a huge under dog so if your right you can rub in how smart you are and that we were wrong and if he losses well he lost to the best so then you can say “so what”. if i’m wrong i’m wrong it happens but if your wrong then it’s cause you were picking the guy every one wants to win so you can be “that guy”

by doomdoom on Jul 15, 2008 12:42 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hope Irvin can keep it standing, coz he does have a legit chance that way. Bonnar was a while ago. I would hope he has worked on that part of his game to improve that since then. I like the odds at Irvin +500…
