Tiger, Gretzky, Jordan, hahahaha. What a joke!!
by Aspen on Jul 14, 2008 9:44 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
not a joke.. that’s a true story. “Fedor” is not human. He is not an average MMA fighter. MMA fans that don’t know who he is.. will soon find out. The likes of Joe Rogan, Big John, Randy Couture, do not hold " Fedor" on a high pedestal for no reason.. ask UFC Champion Big Nog if “Fedor” is a joke? With MMA being MMA a odd hybrid crazy ass sport..with Zuffa buying out pride..and all the politics and don’t blame Fedor or discredit his current statis as the best MMA HW on the planet.
Along side Anderson Silva, BJ Peen, GSP, ask any and every UFC/MMA fighter who is the best MMA fighter in the world today. You’ll hear the name “Fedor” more then once. That’s no joke.

Either way — this is going to be a test to see if he’s still got it against pretty good competition.

I am also getting sick about people crying that this fight will take place in a ring! NEWS FLASH!!! Tim would be at more of a disadvantage fighting Fedor in a cage then ring…The ring is actually a good thing for TIM because the CAGE ONLY FAVORS FEDOR!!!
by john on Jul 14, 2008 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
How exactly? In a cage Tim can sprawl and keep Fedor up against the fence, in a ring if he backpedals while stalling he falls out of the rin!!!
Also in a ring there will be no elbows on the ground(I guess). In a cage I reckon they would include elbows.
by Adam on Jul 14, 2008 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s going to be will?
And the unified mma rules include elbows, the type of rules affect that, not the type of fighting surface…
by theCloser on Jul 14, 2008 12:56 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
whats a ring got to do with elbow rules? the event will use the unified mma rules. elbows everywhere.
by eightyproof on Jul 14, 2008 1:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Also, the ring favors tim in a way…he said it himself that it will allow him to cut off corners more quickly, which allows him to work his jab much more effectivly.

Go to Afflictions website. They have a forum. I read that they will be allowing elbows.

Let nme break it down to you all why the Cage Favors Fedor allthough he has never fought in 1. Let me start by saying that Tim woulud get hurt reall bad in a cage because he would restort to pushing Fedor up against the cage (like he always does) which is the dumbest thing he couuld possible do, because Fedor doesnt use wrestling takedowns (meaning tim’s great sprawl wil be useless against Fedor), Once Tim clinches, fedor twist his hips and takes tim down with a hip throw (judo or sambo).
Also Elbows are allowed in both a ring or the cage, so if they fought in a cage Fedor would be at a huge advantage because his g n p is 2nd to none and if he presses Tim against the cage, tim might die!
Tim should be thanking god that it wont be in a cage, but still regardless of where they f ight you woud have to be a real fool to think that Fedor will loose this fight!

I can’t watch the video at work…what’s the story about? I don’t know a lot about Fedor besides the videos I have watched on the net. I would like to see him fight tougher competition but I can’t deny that he is one hell of a fighter. He’s super strong and has great submissions. For anybody that doubts him…you will find out why he is considered the P4P best fighter in the world this weekend. I hope this is the start to Fedor fighting top 10 competition (besides fighting the winner of the Fighting Fedor show).
I am a little bummed that they decided to go with a ring though. When watching the Pride fights that I have seen I was always bothered when they had to stop the fights and move the fighters back to the center of the ring to let them continue. The cage doesn’t present that problem. The fight goes where the fight goes.

Good stuff! Phil! Until, I see Fedor loose a fight, better yet, Until I see him loose a single round, he is the Mike Jordan of MMA!!!
Fedor didnt just beat, but he made Nogueira’s ju jitsu look USELESS, while Fedor pounded on him for 40 minutes (2 fights)
You are a damn ghood fighter when Nog doesnt catch you in a submission in 40 minutes of action!
UFC fighters have been wanting to test their skills against Fedor for years now, why do u think Tim left? Why do u think Ciouture has created this mess? Simple, to test themselves against Mike Jordan AKA FEDOR!!!
If you dont know, you will know Saturday night! Simple as that!

It’s because most of the Pride guys come over-hyped to clean out the UFC end up to be huge disappointments. Not talking about the Spider obviously. The russian fought the best back in the day and he should always be on that pedestal. But the UFC is where it’s at now. If he wants to remain the best he’s got to fight the best. And he hasn’t done that. Not for a long time.
by wAyNe on Jul 14, 2008 1:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
You’re only mentioning the spider? What about Jackson and Nog? Three Pride guys were UFC champions within a year; that’s cleaning house in my view. People seem to get blinded by Cro Cop’s let down and forget the others…
by UPTIX on Jul 14, 2008 5:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Dude Fedor only fights Heavyweights, and all the best heavyweights were fighting in pride and Fedor beat most of them (only 1 he never fought was Mark Hunt)
u obvioulsy have no idea what u r talking about !

what was with those weak pull ups and dips he was doing? lol
by brendan on Jul 14, 2008 8:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Actually that’s true. He is the tiger, gretzky, jordan of the sport. No other fighter is undefeated (and don’t even start about the cut caused by an illegal elbow). He has completly dominated everyone. There is no other fighter in the short history of MMA that can say that.

I thought they were fighting in a cage, so I was giving Timmy a decent chance. But in a ring? Sorry Timmy, I think you’re toast. There’s a lot less room to sprawl and a lot fewer angles to move. Hopefully he can sneek a power punch in there and hurt him early, because if he gets taken down, it’s over.
by JRK on Jul 14, 2008 10:16 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
dude the cage favours wrestlers.. Tim is a striker, this fight being in a ring is to his advantage. In a cage the grappler gets to use the fence to take away his opponents hips, and give him nowhere to go for the GnP, in a ring it’s reset to the center so the guy on bottom can still manuever. This is totally to Tims advantage as I expect Fedor’s plan will be along the same lines that he used against Schilt in Pride. I’m going with Tim on this one, everyone suffers the bitter taste of defeat and it’s Fedor’s time.
by O damn he got caught on Jul 14, 2008 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I knew it would be a ring, was there ever any doubt? I bet it was the main reason he did not fight in the UFC. I don’t think Fedor could stand a chance if Tim was pushing him against the cage for a few rounds. Fedor knows he has a greater chance in the ring were he cannot be pushed around and can cut angles quicker. Tim is in for a hard test, let’s hope that the ref can stop Fedor from grabbing the ropes this time, not like in Russia.
by Diablo on Jul 14, 2008 10:32 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
for your information Tim’s picked the ring himself too…

i just wish they would have had a cage instead of a ring. Just sucks when they get tied up in the ropes and then get instructed to move into the center.
by Jo on Jul 14, 2008 10:44 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Right there with you Jo. Breaking the action to move to the center can be the few seconds someone needs to recover that they don’t get in the cage. Rings suck.

Afflictions website has exact dimensions for the ring
by rctrue on Jul 14, 2008 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

by zheka on Jul 14, 2008 11:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t care who it favors or what the " benefits" are the ring provides. Rings suck for MMA! They interupt fights and the flow of the action. The only thing positive about a ring imo are the corners. If they wanted to keep the corners( which i can understand reasons to do so) they should make a squared cage.

Fedor is such a prim danna. He demands a ton of money and I am sure he demanded a ring. I think it sucks also. And I hope Tim knocks his head off even though I am sure he will be submitted b4 that can happen.
by Sideshow on Jul 14, 2008 12:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
MMA should be in a Cage or some kind of in-closed structure.
Why:
simple, it holds in all aspects of MMA. A ring can’t do this.
Fighter’s get caught up in the ropes
Fighters fall thru the ropes
The ring is to small for MMA action
you can’t sprawl properly and mount an affense.
Subs from the bottom when near the ropes are very tough to pull off.
and the list goes on.
The cage holds the action in.
The cage may not been fan friendly for sight lines.
Maybe it looks to barberic for some
Bottom line it is neccassary for all styles of fighting.
by Badguy on Jul 14, 2008 12:20 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree with the majority of you, that the ring is not very conducive to good mma fighting. I liked a lot of the Pride fighters and am glad they came to the UFC, but it was hard for me to watch it in a ring… Maybe it just reminded me of how bad boxing sucks, or something. And Fedor might be as good as advertised, but he is way too overhyped. No one is unbeatable, period.

it’s going to be an MMA ring ppl and not a boxing ring
by zheka on Jul 14, 2008 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah it has 4 sides ,corners and ropes right. I see how that differs from a boxing ring. The only difference is the size of the ring and it will be the same size of Ring Klitschko boxes in.

BS!!! “He’s been waiting for just the right test” he’s been waiting for a lot of money is what he’s been waiting for. I’m not going to deny the fact that Fedor was ELITE in Pride. But he seems to carejust about the money and could care less for the Sport or its progression. Hes also had a big layoff from decent competition. Im curious to see how he looks against Timmy. And then theres this ring bs…………..c’mon honestly who wants to see MMA in a ring? That was what really annoyed me about pride.
by RiverHorror on Jul 14, 2008 2:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think it’s all his fault, it kinda sounds like his manager might be a douche bag, and way over involved in the decision making and Fedor for whatever reason doesn’t wanna get rid of the guy. Maybe he doesn’t like being involved with the business side of it, just wants to fight as long as he’s makin money I guess.
by O damn he got caught on Jul 14, 2008 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
ive been saying this for about the last 6 months up till now, fedors management (finklestien) seemed more interested in controlling everything, but now its seems they got it right for the moment. fedor has the big money, high profile fight on its way and there is no denying that things are working out the way they wanted it too. lets see what the future holds.
