MMA Quick Quote: Elite XCs Gary Shaw now 'more or less consulting'

"I was waiting for one of those questions and the opportunity to set the record straight. Gary is still very involved with ProElite. Gary and our team from day one at ProElite basically took MMA at our company from ground zero to a huge network success. So, Gary's got a lot to be proud of in the MMA world. In the process of doing it, as you can imagine, Gary being from the East Coast and we being a West Coast company, took a lot of time from Gary. He was traveling non‑stop. It took a toll on his boxing business, which is very successful and it took a toll on his family. To some degree, it took a toll on his health. We collectively made the decision that Gary was going to back off a little bit, kind of take a little bit of a relaxed role as far as being involved front and center, which is a good thing for all those three things, for his health, for his boxing business, and for his family. But Gary is still very much involved and I still talk to him almost every day. He's still there. Gary's interest still lies in EliteXC and ProElite, making it a top organization in the world. That's the status with Gary.... Gary is still, like I said, majorly involved. I would say he's more or less consulting in terms of all his promoter abilities, all his contacts and everything Gary does. So Gary is kind of behind the scenes with us, kind of shaping the direction of the company, the way it's going, pulling the strings in terms of how we're going to promote, what we're going to do. Again, his involvement is very much similar to what it's always been. The difference is, he's not going to be front and center, doing all the time‑consuming stuff that he's done in the past."
-- Executive Chairman of Pro Elite Inc. Douglas Deluca details the new role of Elite XC Live Events President Gary Shaw in a conference call yesterday to promote its second installment of "Saturday Night Fights" on CBS on July 26. There had been speculation that Shaw was on his way out altogether; however, it appears that he will remain with the promotion in a new capacity going forward. It certainly does not sound like a promotion.

This news rivals all the free show news!!! Now maybe we can see some good stuff out of EliteXC.

But do we know who the puppetmasters are now? They may not be in front of the camera, but are they any better? If Bigfoot vs. Eilers is any indication I am not impressed.

if you look closely at the guy on the right, I would have to believe that Shaw just farted

LMFAO!!!!! it must have been a nasty one too.
BNF, thats a good point. Who knows if the new guy will be any better?
by JV on Jul 11, 2008 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
shaw loves the smell of his own farts, you can tell by the way he’s NOT reacting. rumor has it that he bottles his farts to sniff at a later time for the few times when he isnt full of $hit.

That is a sick twist on the “smoke shakes” we did in college. lol. You take a bong hit and exhale into an empty two liter bottle you’ve had in the freezer. Fill bottle with smoke, store in freezer. Then when you’re “jonesing” for a buzz and there is nothing to be found, pull out the bottle and enjoy!

Did anyone hear about that dude Jeremy Jackson getting charged with rape? I guess he fought Diaz and Spratt before in the UFC. His bail is at $1 million. Crazy Shit.

He was on one of the TUF shows. I’m sure that news will fuel the MMA haters.
by THORAZINE on Jul 12, 2008 1:58 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah he was on the comeback show. He got kicked off the show for leaving the house to go “meet” women. Dana got lucky he rid himself of Jackson then or this would be a much bigger deal.

Yeah, he’s done so much for the company that we are gonna have him step back and not do as much. Whatever. Another page in the joke book known as EliteXC.

I already made my mind up on May 31st that I wouldn’t watch another Elite XC event and I haven’t. If the fight is rumored to have been good, I will watch it on the internet. I just don’t want to support their ratings.

Im hoping. Affliction will take off and be able to draw the higher quality fighters from Elite XC.

PhilQNY, I just read the espn thread. It was funny but whats up with the Rampage brought his “JV” game?
by JV on Jul 11, 2008 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
my guess is that by JV he meant Junior Varsity as in he dind’t show up to fight his best.
by kitsunex on Jul 11, 2008 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ahhh!!! junior varsity why didnt I think of that. I wasnt complaining, it was funny.
by JV on Jul 11, 2008 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Which means they really wanted to fire that fat, slimy f*cker but felt guilty after the work he had done for them. So instead they made up a new position for him. Just like that ’tard in Office Space, take his stapler and move him to the basement!

I am going to need those tps reports by saturday Gary mmmmkay….. i am also going to need you not to come in anymore.. at all. That would be great. Thank you

I think I have 2 agree with all the statements made, even though I could care less about Elitexc

wow..Kimbo vs. Tank Abbot in the background on the wall!!! You heard it here first people Kimbo is fighting Tank Abbot! I know, I know, I can’t believe it either.
by tripleainto on Jul 11, 2008 3:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Finally, he’s getting canned. No more MMA or boxing for shaw. That’s what he gets for screwing over his best boxing prospect and then coming to MMA and pushing kimbo slice as the best fighter then best striker in the world.
by NameNotRequired on Jul 11, 2008 3:37 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
They probably demoted him as opposed to outright sacked him to prevent any kind of negative publicity. I’m guessing slowly they’ll squeeze him out completely, or create conditions that make him WANT to leave.
Good news imo, i do NOT want to see a clusterf*ck like Kimbo and Thomson again. In fact, i don’t want to see Kimbo ever again.
Hopefully they’ll focus on high level talent now as opposed to the circus show.
by Xad on Jul 11, 2008 3:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
You can hope all you want. Kimbo is their cash cow. The will still promote him as long as they can.
by DonnyG on Jul 11, 2008 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That was the case, but i doubt it is any more after his last pathetic bout. I foresee them using him to build someone else, someone who’s a legitimate fighter. I think Kimbo might be one of the many reasons why Gary has been demoted.
We’ll have to wait and see i guess.

RIP Gary. Thanks for the laughs and good times.

I think the fact he is an over weight ASSCLOWN thats afecting his health just my opinon
by icefish on Jul 11, 2008 3:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i think the fact he is an over weight clown is the reason he is unhealthy
by icefish on Jul 11, 2008 3:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah, exactly. Traveling had nothing to do with his health most likely. It was probably something to do with his obesity.
by Fidel Cashflow on Jul 11, 2008 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
got goose bumps ok maybe not but im stoked
by icefish on Jul 11, 2008 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Shaw just keeps getting fatter and fatter. must be eating Twinkies while traveling.
by Ro on Jul 11, 2008 4:40 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Haha exactly we are 8 days away from July 19th. I hope they shut down EliteXC they put on the worst cards with the worst fighters. Regardless of who’s promoting the event..can’t wait until ufc buys them and shuts them down.

MMAmania………
How come my comments either……
1.) Dont show up at all
2.) Show up an hour or 2 or even later after I post??
Please let me know. I do not want to spent time writing a comment that is never going to be posted or posted hours after I write it, when there are 50,60 and even more comments to go through. I never did anything to have my comments deleted? Just this morning, about 6 hours ago, I commented on this post and it is STILL not up???
by fightfan on Jul 11, 2008 4:44 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
click refresh, do it on comments page if you don’t see your comment after refreshing then i guess it’s gone. also refresh homepage for some latest news posted. do it every hour or 2.
by Ro on Jul 11, 2008 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I have actualy refreshed browser and the post eventually came up……then later the post was gone AGAIN!!!!!!!
Soemtimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, just like posting comments
I have actually spent much less time here because of it. if I want to bs about something, I go somewhere where i dont have to wait 2 hours for an answer. I used to “hit” this site 5-10 DAILY, not since this has been happening
by fightfan on Jul 11, 2008 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
well i guess your stuck with it, it happens to me too but most of mine comes thru and some doesn’t. sometimes if you write unacceptable comments, Mania may delete it in 30 mins later.

For me it depends on where I am. If I come here on my work computer, my posts go up immediately. If I check in at home, my posts won’t come up for hours and my computer freezes constantly. I’m not computer savvy enough to know why.

There is nothing that can be done to save “not so elite xc”
by Ro-J on Jul 11, 2008 5:52 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Agree. I predict that the UFC buys their assets in 6 to 8 months.
by Muscle Dolphin on Jul 11, 2008 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i dont know why they should buy them personally. they should just let them sink and sign whatever fighters they please. it might depend on how cheap elite goes for. it all depends on the 2nd shows ratings. if good, elite will stick around a little longer, if bad they wont air another show. no kimbo, no curiosity this time around. they should have had these fighters (shields, diaz, bigfoot) on the 1rst show along with kimbo.
by b.w on Jul 12, 2008 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Shaw looks like he ate Kimbo, beard and all.. Maybe he wouldn’t have health issues if he pushed off from the dining table an hour sooner..
by DRE on Jul 11, 2008 6:16 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
LOL. I don’t think he could push his body weight if his life depended on it.
by UFCAddict on Jul 11, 2008 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
looks more like the guy in blue is holding his nose as shaw rips out a loud smelly one…
by commoner on Jul 11, 2008 7:50 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Could it be that Shaw is bailing on a sinking ship?
by Muscle Dolphin on Jul 11, 2008 7:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think the other partners are more likely trying to cut some dead weight, no pun intended.

That makes sense since they are bleeding money “hand over fist”.
