So, according to your math, Houston Alexander is 12.5% better of a fighter than Anderson Silva. Please explain your math
by ViolentMike on Jul 7, 2008 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
you can’t predict fights with math. in MMA, anything can happen. What about the underdog Jardine who defeated Liddel and if you do the math and you say Liddel will win but actually Jardine did. you think Sandman gonna win every fight with a 8 second KO? Silva’s is more skilled and smarter than Alexsander. Alexsander’s just an overated powerpuncher. if Sandman wins, your timing and outcome prediction will be wrong and the outcome is a ko more than 8 second which ends in between 1-3 rounds or maybe there will be a sub or desicion who knows. doesn’t take an Einstein to figure this out. math crap don’t work. I like Silva to win but i don’t mind if Sandman wins either way i like them both.

i hope it’s a tactical battle on their feet even if it becomes a brawl i don’t care..as long as they put on a great show. but nobody can brush irvin aside..he still poses a great threat for being a former heavyweight champ now fighting at LHW. silva will be slightly slower but will still have those accurate strikes. anyway goes a very exciting fight. silva TKO end of 2nd round.

I hear that Irvin is a plus 700 DOG! I believe Silva will win the fight but with those odds, a small bet on Irvin (very small is warranted) because he does have BIG KO power in his hands, knees, feet…. Why nhot bet $10 on Irvin to win back $70…that is a good risk worth taking, even though I will be shocked if Silva looses. As much asd the UFC has tried to overshadow Affliction, I am MUCH MORE excited about Affliction than I am at the UFC’s pathetic attempt to rain on there parade!
by john on Jul 7, 2008 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
With those odds I will be putting some money on Irvin. Anything can happen and I don’t think he should be that much of a dog.

Irvin will get a crazy upset knock out victory. I just want silva to be humbled. I love him and I rather see him lose in LHW than lose his title, he needs to lose soon or he might become one dimensional with time.
by Ro-J on Jul 7, 2008 10:08 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
how would silva become one dimensional with time? He’s good at everything.
by BNF's B_tch aka LINX on Jul 7, 2008 10:36 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
exactly, that is what set Anderson apart from all other fighters. He is completely evolved.
World class stand up.
World class BJJ.
His wrestling is solid, I guess that since he never wrestled in the Olympics or College that makes him 1-dimensional???
by ViolentMike on Jul 7, 2008 11:26 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ro-J would u like to explain ur comment! theres no logic behind it
by braveheart on Jul 7, 2008 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
check out Matt Hughes, the perfect example. your on top for a long time a coach can come up with the perfect game plan to beat you.
You guys act like silva’s never been in trouble. All that is needed is a coach to point the week areas out and the right fighter with strengths in those areas and voila!
Do you think silva is the limits of an evolved and complete fighter?
by Ro-J on Jul 7, 2008 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t know if silva is the limits of an evolved and complete fighter, but I can’t think of anyone who is better all around than the spider. how can you make an example out of hughes? he was a great fighter and was on top for a long time, but he did not have a great stand up game and did not have a great bjj game either. he was a great wrestler that transitioned good into mma with a few good submissions too. one dimensional means you’re good at one thing (ie hughes at wrestling), how is silva one dimensional when he has pretty much learned mastered all parts of the game? Where is he bad at? in the ground? standing up? you tell me…
by BNF's B_tch aka LINX on Jul 7, 2008 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Linx: u shouldnt even waste your time arguing with someone who thinks that anderson Silva is 1 dimensional!
Hughes, TIto…those guys are 1 dimensional….silva is the best in the GAME, who can in by KO, or with his grappling….nothing 1 dimensional about him!
by john on Jul 7, 2008 6:09 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I never said he was one dimentional. read what I said if you can’t see the logic in it.
And Linx,
you say not to compare him to huges. Hughes was a great wrestler, grest BJJ, (maybee you havent seen many of his fight, but at end most of his wins came by submision). but his stricking was average. Silva has great striking and BJJ but average wrestling. …..Oh and look a their records in his time he was the most hughes was one of the most evolved fighter like silva is now.
but who knows maybee you right and I don;t know what I’m talking about.

yeah, you don’t know what you’re talking about, sorry :)
by BNF's B_tch aka LINX on Jul 8, 2008 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Silva’s hasn’t been defeated in years since PRIDE. Irvin doesn’t have that, how does that makes Silva a one dimensional fighter?
by Ro on Jul 7, 2008 6:40 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m more excited to see this than I was about UFC 87! Now, if Irvin KO’s Silva, where will he fall in the LHW division? Does he move up the ladder at all?
by VNDK8 on Jul 7, 2008 10:26 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think he gets catapulted up the ladder and fights one of the biggest names in the division.
by ViolentMike on Jul 7, 2008 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It depends. He’ll return to middleweight to put away Okami but I can’t see them putting Silva against a serious light heavyweight contender unless Dana needs a real shot in the arm for PPV buys, gate attendance or counter-programming. Middleweight is not “cleaned out.” Bisping and Cote are in the hopper, and while they’re not likely to beat Silva, we’ve seen less impressive fighters get title shots when the division was thin, like Jeremy Horn and Vernon White.
by Hyde on Jul 7, 2008 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
D’oh, my bad. I think White fought Liddell before he won the LHW belt, not after. Either way, Bisping, Cote, Kampmann and Leites will all be credible title opponents at MW in the next year or two, so I doubt Silva will do much fighting at LHW unless Dana really needs him.
by Hyde on Jul 7, 2008 1:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
LOL, I think the original poster was referrring to if Irvin wins. Then when I saw the beginning of your 2nd post, I thought you realized it….

I read a few weeks ago that Irvin really wants to fight Wandy.
by Griffinfan05 on Jul 7, 2008 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, if he kO’s Silva he will continue to fight big guns of the division…dont forget Irvin asked for Wanderlei, but got Anderson instead…. If Irvin can beat Silva (which is highly unlikely, but he has a punchers chance) I will assume that he will be matched up with a top Banger like Wanderlei or THiago Silva
by john on Jul 7, 2008 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Silva will continue his streak of finishing opponents before the end of the second round… this one won’t be close!!
by Harrison on Jul 7, 2008 10:26 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Irvin winning is a long shot, but I think strange matchups like these are where the underdog shines. With +700 on Irvin…a little money on him won’t hurt. I might put 20 or 30 dollars on him….Irivn used to be into body bulding and used to weigh like 230 or right aorund there. The dude is strong. He’s been practicing his muy thai in Thialand (what Franklin should have been doing) he has devastating KO power in both hands and hes known to pull KO’s out of his rear. I like Irvin in this matchup even though everythng else points for Anderson Silva to win.
by Chadx23 on Jul 7, 2008 12:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
silva will demolish irvin, you guys are dreaming to think he would loose to irvin (yeah, I never learn my lesson and I hate my new name LOL).
by BNF's B_tch aka LINX on Jul 7, 2008 10:38 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
LMAO! What up, Linx. I am glad to see you still posting. I didn’t really get to check yesterday. What did you think of the fight? Sounds like a lot of people are complaining. Rampage looked really horrible. I think he took Forrest lightly, like I thought he might, and paid for it with his belt. IMO, Forrest definatly deserved to win the decision. Some of you guys had me doubting Forrest as the fight got closer, I will never make that mistake again.
by BNF on Jul 7, 2008 12:31 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Forrest won that fight hands down BNF (rampage kind of got lost in that fight). I definitely have more respect towards forrest now, I didn’t think the score in the end of the fight reflected the fight itself, but without a doubt I think forrest won a CLOSE decision. I still don’t think he’ll be holding that belt for a long time though, it’s a good thing TUF already used the champion for LHW this year so hopefully we’ll get to see forrest trying to defend his belt before 09, in which case I just don’t see him keeping it. Let’s face it, this division is too stacked and I don’t see forrest winning against most of the top LHW’s (shogun is coming for revenge… IT’S TIME!!!)LOL.

I don’t agree with Chuck getting the next crack after he kills Rashad, but I think that will be his first defense and IMO he has a really good chance in that fight. If it is Wanderlei, Machida, or Thiago he is in big trouble.
I laugh every time I read your new name. I am a nice guy so I will give you a good opportunity to get out of it sooner than 1 month. Double or nothing. I will let you have Anderson and I will take Irvin. So if Anderson wins we are even and you can change your name back. If Irvin pulls off a crazy upset, 2 months.
by BNF on Jul 7, 2008 2:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
lmao, no doubt you are a nice fellow. But if I’m putting another month on the line, you got to give me two weeks of you going through this. so what do you say? If irvin wins I’ll do my second month no problem, but if silva wins you have to do your two weeks… Let me know.
by BNF's B_tch aka LINX on Jul 7, 2008 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No way I am betting agaisn’t the Spider. I was just trying to give you a chance. Sorry man. I think he will destroy Irvin. That is the reason I was giving you the option. You won’t have to do the 2 months because Silva will not lose!!!
by BNF on Jul 7, 2008 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’ll take it back than BNF, still time? :P
If anderson wins I get my name back, otherwise you don’t need to change your name.

Okay… You got it. I will be rooting for you. That would really suck if Irvin hits him with a superman and he goes to sleep… LOL.
by BNF on Jul 7, 2008 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree, Irvin doesn’t stand a chance against Anderson. There is no way in hell Irvin could beat Hendo and the Spider just finished Hendo. Like BJ said to sherk James Irvin, your DEAD!

Im with ya linx. i dont get why every one is underestamating anderson. i guess its cause he beat rich and dan so easily.

yeah but silva fought at lhw before, he’ll be comfortable there too me thinks.
by BNF's B_tch aka LINX on Jul 7, 2008 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah but irvins career was started at HW so he’s got a distinct size advantage,it’s gonna be a better fight then people think james is no pu$$y, and i would like to see a hendo vs irvin fight it’d actually be a damn good one
by randy murders on Jul 7, 2008 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
no doubt irvin is a legit opponent and there is always that small chance of a puncher’s chance, but just because he came from HW doesn’t mean he’ll have a reach advantage towards the spider, anderson is pretty tall, so much so that I think their around the same height. irvin may be bigger than anderson in the muscle division, but anderson is usually slimmer than his oponents (even in the MW division). watch for andersons punches and knees, that will be a factor here.
by BNF's B_tch aka LINX on Jul 7, 2008 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Silva will finish in the first round – Irvin is good but Silver is better!
Silva is just the best striker in the business – about 98% of his shots hit the target!!!!
by GROUNDNPOUNDUK on Jul 7, 2008 11:13 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
my being biased to irvin says he wins by KO..
my brain says silva wins a decision
by randy murders on Jul 7, 2008 11:57 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
When was the last time Silva won by a decision?? and when the UFC?? Silva will not beat Irvin by a decision. by Knees/hands. TKO.
by PhilQNY on Jul 7, 2008 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
when was the last time silva fought a guy that much bigger and stronger then him? james will be 220-230 come fight time silva will still be about 205-210
and irvin is a much better stand up fighter thn franklin, leben, and hendo.. and both men stated this will be a standup fight, i wouldn’t be surprised if silva knocks him out BUT i think it’s going to a decision
by randy murders on Jul 7, 2008 1:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
IMO..regardless of a 15 or even 20lb difference. Silva will Drug Irvin. Silva is the best pound per pound fighter in the galaxy.
by PhilQNY on Jul 7, 2008 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It isn’t clear cut that James Irvin has better striking than Franklin, Hendo, or Leben.
He pulls a superman punch and a flying knee out of his anus and he is all of a sudden world class? I think not.
I was just looking at Irvin’s record and his previous fights…
Notable Opponents:
Early in his career, he KO’d Scott Smith
UFC debut at UFC 51, got KO’d by Mike Kyle
Then he went to WEC and KO’d The Rhino Doug Marshall with a knee.
Next was the flying knee against Terry Martin. At that point, everyone knew who he was.
However, inbetween UFC fights, he lost a decision to Lodun Sincaid. Ouch…
Also, in 2006, he fought Bobby Southworth in Strikeforce and it was ruled a no contest, because, and I quote, “No Contest (Both fighters fell from the cage)”
LOLOLOLOL – WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??
by ViolentMike on Jul 7, 2008 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
if you read the earlier interview with James Irvin he briefly describes the Southworth fight.

Irvin used to train with Rampage, so we know hes used to taking some big shots and has stated that NO ONE hits harder than Rampage…of course no one hes trained with I’m assuming. I dont think Silva can KO unconsciously…Irvin.

This is going to be an exciting card with the silva fight and also franca vs edgar. I’ll be watching this card and not affliction’s. As much as I want affliction to succeed, I promised myself I’d never buy another PPV with tim sylvia in the main event. And what has andrei arlovski done lately? that could very well be a snoozefest.
by Fidel Cashflow on Jul 7, 2008 1:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The whole card is comprised of cry baby fightere except for Big Tim. Tim is the only guy that I want to see on that card.
I hope Tim knocks his ass out! and gets another shot in the UFC, I think that would be good enough to get Randy back too.
by Ro-J on Jul 7, 2008 1:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Really? Tim is one of the few I don’t want to see on the card. Him and Mike “The Pimple” Whitehead. Although, I can always go for Timmy getting his ass kicked in a 1 sided beat down. I just hope Fedor GnP’s him some before tearing his arm.
by ViolentMike on Jul 7, 2008 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, thats what I am worried about violentmike…I worry that Fedor will just quickly submit Tim and call it a night….I want to see his TOP OF THE LINE ground n pound with some elbows in it raining down on Tim’s Face….If Couture messed his face up that bad, can u imagine what Fedor could do to his face if he wants to punish Sylvia before taking him out of his misery with the armbar!
by john on Jul 7, 2008 6:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
when is the last time you saw this amazing ground and pound on a top 5 fighter, mmm… how many years was that?
Fedor has alot to prove. and Tim is still in the top 10 if not top 5 and has been active.
The others are all over the hill, Believe that. Either because of age or being inactive.
These fights will be slow and hard to watch.

you obviosly don’t know who Fedor is and other great fighters on the card. i’m not a big fan of Tim, he has power but often lack striking skills and makes fight boring. Fedor had fought and defeated bigger opponents than Tim. same thought here too ViolentMike.

Size doesn’t matter…It’s the SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, SMARTS. Silva is an accurate mofo. Wait and see what he does with his knees and hands. THIS WILL BE A TKO FOR SILVA. He’s next opponent at 205 WILL BE Chuck Liddell. Mark my words.

I can’t wait The spider on free tv you can’t get much better. As much as I want to see Fedor in a fight where he is tested truth be told I much rather watch Anderson Silva fight. I think the Fedor Silvia fight we’ll be okay but as much as Affliction has some good fighters but they aren’t going to be exciting fights. So my ass is going to be on my couch with Spike TV on.

how is Silva’s overated? he’s a better striker and more complete fighter than Irvin and hasn’t been beaten in years since PRIDE. Silva’s more tactical and does not use gameplan just rely on insincts. doesn’t matter if it goes to ground or stand up, Silva always figures out the puzzle to defeat any opponent.

Hendo would beat his ass again in a rematch, He just wasn’t fighting smart and The Spider cought him.

Man i cant wait for this fight i think it will be a war, but if Silva stands three rounds with Irvin he will eventually get cought, i know silvas the better sriker but Irvins the bigger puncher, love both guy, I say Irvin pulls the upset after losing rounds 1,2 Irvin catches silva in the 3rd. Irvin by tko thats my prediction.
by jsoph on Jul 7, 2008 5:16 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
irvin has yet to prove himself. so he ko houston and now every one thinks he can beat anderson. And chase try to explain your point then i might respect it.
by doomdoom on Jul 7, 2008 5:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The Spider is also very intelligent. If you watch his fights closely he dances around for the first minute and a half and studies his prey very carefully. Then he pounces. Anderson Silve will wipe out the entire 205 pound fighters. No one can beat him that is why they call him the greatest fighter on the planet. Forrest better practice his flying scissor heel hook- if he even makes it past his first title defense.
by matt on Jul 7, 2008 6:18 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs

Hey john, nice portuguese you have there. And agreed with Matt and Ro. I think when a fighter has been so dominant like the spider has been, some people starts to root for the guy to hit a bump on the road and loose. Spider has been so dominant that the simple fact that he is fighting at a heavier weight class is enough for the biggest gatekeeper in the LHW to KO him. A heads up guy, SILVA IS NOT HOUSTON ALEXANDER. He may even loose, but the KO over Alexander doesn’t make Irvin such a dangerous fighter (how many KO’s Travis Lutter got after the KO of Marvin Eastman?). Suck it up, Irvin is not at the same level of The Spider
by Cristiano from Brazil on Jul 7, 2008 7:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Nice portuguese you have there john. Agreed with Matt and Ro. I think when a fighter has been so dominant like Anderson Silva, some people starts to root for the guy to hit a bump in the road and lose. Just the simple fact that he’s fighting at LHW, all of sudden, makes James Irvin, who is nothing more than a gatekeeper, a monstrous opponent that will KO Silva. Well, SILVA IS NOT HOUSTON ALEXANDER and one punch KO means nothing (how many KO’s Travis Lutter got after he ko’ed Marvin Eastman?). He might even lose but James Irvin isn’t that dangerous.

Spiders clinch and knees aren’t going to work in this fight, Sandman is gonna out weigh him and be alot stronger.
