Quoteworthy:

"MMA star Andrei Arlovski, the former UFC heavyweight champion from Belarus, has been training for a boxing career under the tutelage of trainer Freddie Roach. Arlovski, who has an MMA bout July 19, likely will make his professional boxing debut Sept. 13 (HBO PPV) in the opening fight on the Casamayor-Marquez card in Las Vegas, according to Golden Boy."

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will apparently make his professional boxing debut on an HBO pay-per-view (PPV) telecast on September 15 against a yet to be named opponent. "The Pitbull" recently signed a contract with Affliction MMA and will fight Ben Rothwell at its "Banned" event on July 19.

I hate Josh Koschek and I will be betting against him tonight! In the spirit of tonights fights, here is the best Koschek highlight video ever made. Enjoy!

i heard that forrest broke wandi’s nose in sparring. no big deal though, that probably happens all the time in training and sparring. i would have loved to have seen that sparring session though.

Genghis Con does amazing highlight reels. The GTA ones are amazing, especially the GTA2: Battle for Saitama City. It’s a Shogun one.

WOW…. I mean, I know Arlovski’s strength is in his stand up; but boxing is a whole different world. Hope he does well…

Is this what AA has come too? Boxing is a dieing sport, the only good fight coming is Margarito/Cotto. I wonder how AA will handle 12 rounds.

he’s trained by a very good coach in Freddie Roach!

by matthew on Jul 5, 2008 11:54 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

fredie is on of the hottst boxing trainers around. hes an ex-fighter that was tough as nails, but not good enough to make it big. he is one of “those that cant do teach”, kinda trainers. i find it kinda wierd though. i think a.a has the talent to still be the best hw in mma. they must have saw something in his boxing workouts. i have always been a big a.a. fan, so i will be rootting for him in any capacity, plus it would be pretty cool to see an mma guy succseed in boxing. if arlovski is good at it, he could make a huge amount of money. there are no current hw boxers who capture the publics eye, especially any of the 4 champions. andrei could be the guy to do it.

Then again if he gets knocked out… then all the boxing people well say " see mma is light years behind boxing" very interesting though.

by Robert on Jul 5, 2008 12:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

we dont know who he is fighting, probably a can or a set-up fight. it will be the 1rst big crossover mma/boxing to date. i know vince phillips fought in k-1 and looked horrible, and vince was a very good boxer and a champion at one time. the k-1 guy he fought i think broke his leg w/leg kicks. somehow i think a.a has too much pride to be embarresed. the most interesting thing to see will be who he is fighting.

I could care less! Putting those pillows on your hands is a disgrace! AA needs to keep his ass in mma and fight with the 4 ounce gloves

by john on Jul 5, 2008 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i think the hws in boxing use 160Z gloves. some call them pillows, some call them 1 pound wieghts that can add to the punching power if used properly. i do agree that it is a bit of a freakshow type deal and a.a. does need to concentrate on mma, but roach usually wont align himself w/someone who he doesnt think has the goods. if he wins everyone will say it was a great move, if he loses, everyone will say it was a joke and will greatly tarnish andrei’s career imo.

I think he will be able to take a lot more punishment then most do to the fact that he is use to taking shots with the four ouncers. It will be hard to put him down. Go andre

BW: I am not questoning weather or not AA has the goods to do it. I am actually pretty sure that he does, I would just like to see him Concentrate on mma. From a business stand point, I dont know how lucrative it will be for Arlovski, it probably will make sense for him financially but Top Heavyweights in mma are scarce as it is, I dont want to see one of the best doing anything other than mma!

It may be good for him, and I am just being selfish but now that he is in Affliction, there are some HUGE fights awaiting him, if he can get his head right and not be Gun shy. Talk about potential fights with Fedor, Barnett and maybe even Couture…THo9se are HUGE pay days, and I here that Trump is a big fan of his.

Those really aren’t pillows. They’re virtually the same w/MMA gloves. If you guys happened to watch National Geographic’s “Fight Masters” where they featured Bas, Couture, Lister and Tito, they measured the force of the bare knuckle, the MMA glove and the boxing glove. The Knuckle reigned supreme while the MMA and boxing glove were virtually the same…So the myth that boxing gloves don’t really hurt is busted.

i believe you haha arlovski will be getting knocked out!

by Macho Bullshit on Jul 5, 2008 12:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol, I’m interested to see how well he will hold up.

by c-war on Jul 5, 2008 12:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

really seeing how he got beat by pedro rizzo and tim slyvia two of possible the hardest hitters in mma and he has a weak chin tell me what weak puncher almost knocked him out cause i have not seen it ,so why do you feel it your place to discredit him when you don’t have a clue ,nobody here is an expert so save your editorial for after the fight

by scott on Jul 5, 2008 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My question is do you think this is just an attempt or is he trying to leave MMA for good?

by halljam2 on Jul 5, 2008 12:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

he sees the millions per boxing match as to a couple hundred grand in mma.. lol

by randy murders on Jul 5, 2008 12:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No joke. That’s probably it. It’s not like he even started out with boxing (He started with Sambo). He kind of came to martial arts late. I think he was around 18 or 19 before he took up Sambo but he had his first mma fight at like 20/21 or something ridiculous.

by RobH86 on Jul 5, 2008 1:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey, Vladimir Klitchko(spelling??)started out as a kick boxer in his early days. He was like average but turned out OK in boxing. AA should at least have a decent chance here. He does have a pretty nice set of hands. But I truly feel he’s seeing $$$$$$$$$ opportunity.

woundn’t you? would I?

by lucas on Jul 7, 2008 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My question is how focused can he be for July 19th?

by Robert on Jul 5, 2008 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You only make the millions when you headline in boxing too. Even the lower level fighters do get paid better.

by halljam2 on Jul 5, 2008 1:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i got a feeling they’ll market his boxing carreer like elite is with kimbo’s mma fighting lol he’ll jump right in and make big $ just because his name is a big draw internationally

by randy murders on Jul 5, 2008 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

halljam2. not true. only the elite fighters in boxing make millions( and that is starting to die down alot) and the lower level guys make less than mma fighters. this has been well documented on sites such as yahoo sports and espn.com. even marcus davis himself, who was a pro boxer for quite awhile and fought on espn 2’s friday night fights several times, admits that he is making alot more than he ever did in boxing. if a.a. can ko a couple of guys, then he will probably make millions.

by b.w on Jul 5, 2008 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

BW: I did not know that Marcus fought on friday night fights…Good stuff!

by john on Jul 5, 2008 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No wonder his fights have been boring lately

by RiverHorror on Jul 5, 2008 2:05 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

And what happens if Rothwell knocks his ass out? Maybe his handlers should wait till his next bout is fought before they start promoting a risky venture. It might help avoid some future embarassment if he loses on the 19th…Plus, I don’t think he has the chin to box solid heavyweights

by WADZ on Jul 5, 2008 2:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

is this kickboxing or just regular boxing?

by brendan on Jul 5, 2008 3:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Boxing.

by TrueMMA on Jul 5, 2008 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is interesting. But I hope he does not neglect his complete mma training. In his last fights he has seemed content to just box, even using less leg kicks than usual. Maybe this is his true desire.

by theCloser on Jul 5, 2008 5:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It’s true. Only the superstars of boxing make millions while the under card fighters make roughly the same as MMA fighters.

Floyd Mayweather was only making roughly $7,500 per fight in his early pro days.
