UFC Quick Quote: Jon Fitch earns jiu-jitsu black belt

jon fitch bjj

"I received my Black Belt today from David Camarillo. I am his first student to go from white to black. It is a great honor for me to achieve this under Dave's teaching. I did it in 4 and a half years and have to thank everyone that contributed. My team mates and all of the Jiu-jitsu students at AKA. Thank you all so much for your time and efforts."

-- Number one welterweight contender Jon Fitch reveals via MMA.tv that he has earned his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt from Dave Camarillo -- the head instructor at American Kickboxing Academy. Camarillo -- also an experienced judo player -- is a Ralph Gracie protege who has awarded just a handful of black belts as an instructor (six). Fitch will put his new status to the test against welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 87: "Seek and Destroy" on August 9.

does anybody now the other 5 that Camarillo has awarded B belts to?

by MoonUK on Jul 3, 2008 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

anderson silva vs yushin okami for ufc 88.

"Anderson Silva, being the monster that he is, you all know is going to move up to 205 on July 19. He’s going to fight at 205. If everything goes well, he wants to move back to 185 and fight Sept. 6 in Atlanta, probably against Yushin Okami, then he wants to fight again two months later,"

“Then he’ll bounce back up to 205. He wants to fight 205 again, then go back to 185. He wants to keep sticking his foot in the 205 division to feel it out. Because what he’s testing is, I think he wants both belts," said White.

-mmaweekly

i think that its really cool that he’s not abandoning his 185lb championship and would still keep on defending the belt while going for the LHW belt as well.

hey mania, did you guys find a good (maybe 2 good) candidates to write for you guys? Not asking if it’s me, just curious if you found anyone!!

Anderson Silva will defend his middleweight belt on UFC 88

"Anderson Silva, being the monster that he is, you all know is going to move up to 205 on July 19. He’s going to fight at 205. If everything goes well, he wants to move back to 185 and fight Sept. 6 in Atlanta, probably against Yushin Okami, then he wants to fight again two months later," -dana white.
-from mmaweekly.

i think its cool how he’s gonna handle fighting in both divisions instead of leaving his belt behind and going for the LHW crown only. this would basically prove that he deserves to be #1PfP. (assuming he does well even in LHW)

I have a friend that’s been training in BJJ for 8 years, teaches, and competes a lot – He’s only a brown belt.

For Fitch to receive a black belt through Camarillo via Ralph Gracie is a huge accomplishment.

Just the kind of positive mental edge Fitch needs to pull off the win.

Hes gonna need more than a black belt to beat Georges. He should bring a bat.

we’ll see if you put it to good use.. gsp is gonna make him look like a white belt after the fight.

by mikeybear on Jul 3, 2008 2:53 PM EDT reply actions

Hahaha Yeah, I think GSP’s wrestling will negate Fitch’s brand new belt[which he bought at Macy’s]. On top of that, GSP also goes to Brazil to train BJJ so it’s not as if GSP won’t be able to handle Fitch’s BJJ. GSP also IMO has the better wrestling skills. Kyokushin karate will also give him the upper hand in striking, so Fitch has nowhere to go but out. Knocked out that is!

by TheNegation on Jul 3, 2008 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I AGREE except going to brazil means nothing except hot women and nice weather. You got caesar and renzo right here in the states!

by kevin on Jul 3, 2008 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Going to Brazil and training at both Gracie Barra and Nova Uniao means a lot, actually. There’s great teachers down there as well as a ton of BJJ black belts as training partners.

GSP’s ground game will be better than Fitch’s. All of GSP’s skills are a bit better than Fitch’s.

GSP will collect his 4th WW title belt on August 9 against the consensus #1 contender in Fitch.

This fight should be getting more press. It’s rare that we see the consensus #1 guy fight the consensus #2 guy for the undisputed title.

by Hardcharger on Jul 3, 2008 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

what r u talkin about? gsp is the champ right now, so how does he collect another belt? and what up with hughes saying he’s the “nine time champ”? he only won it twice, but defended it numerous times. if hughes mean “nine time champ” as in “i defended it nine times”, that’s pretty stupid.

by kdawg on Jul 3, 2008 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions

everytime they successfully defend the belt, they get a new one. that is why when rampage was on jimmy kimmell and he asked if he gets to keep the belt, rampage replied that he dind’t until he successfully defended it once which is why his first title defense was so important to him, he wanted the belt. sucks to be matt serra, he’s got nuttin to show for his short title reign.

by kitsunex on Jul 3, 2008 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I hear that but it just sounds so stupid. You win the belt and you then defend the belt. You don’t win the belt every single time you defend it. That’s where the UFC just sucks, plain and simple..trying to make their dudes look so thug…“9 time champion my ass” he didn’t win it 9 times, he defended it.

by tripleainto on Jul 3, 2008 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

This fight will not be a cake walk for GSP..not by far. Jon Fitch is the real deal..I think Fitch at the present time is the only WW that is threat to GSP. + GSP has yet to defend his title. He was won it..but he has not defended it. Now is facing a fighter that is 22-2?? On a something like a 14 fight win streak..Fitch is legit. GSP shouldn’t even think about moving up in weight..till he cleans out the WW division as a Champ.

Congrats to Fitch it is a true honor to hold a Blk belt in BJJ.

by PhilQNY on Jul 3, 2008 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the only WW that can beat GSP is…..GSP!

by kevin on Jul 3, 2008 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions

I expect GSP to win the fight, but it will be the biggest War that GSP has ever been in. I dont see it ending before the 4th round and I kind of think it will go to a decision.

Congrats to Fitch for earning his black belt, but his jits wont be as good as GSP’s. Forget the fact that GSP is back in the holy land of ju jitsu right now (Brazil), Over this past year GSP has shown tremendous improvemnet in his jits. What he did to matt Hughes this past December was amazing (triangle-kimura-arm bar) That isnt eaxactly white belt level stuff, thats was very impressive especially against Hughes, who knows a trhing or 2 about jits himself. Ju JItsu Advantage: GSP

Wrestling: Fitch is good, but no one does it better than GSP right now

Striking: I have to say GSP again

On paper, GSP is better than everything, but FITCH is GAME and it will be a very tough fight for GSP, a lot tougher than it looks on paper. GSP will win, but this fight will push GSP to that next level! We will get our mney’s worth in this one!

by john on Jul 3, 2008 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions

both jon fitch losses were at middleweight 1 to wilson gouivea or w/e the fu#k you spell it, if fitch doesn’t beat gsp then the only way for gsp to lose is by his own mistakes

by randy murders on Jul 3, 2008 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Right on John. Fitch is indeed GAME. He’s a scrapper if you ask me. It’s just that all the arrows seem to be pointing GSP right now. Can’t blame the papers.

by TheNegation on Jul 3, 2008 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Bought at Macy’s??? So Camarillo is the department store of MMA? 6 black belts… ever… This article didn’t say that because Jon’s a blackbelt now he’ll beat GSP, it simply stated an accomplishment to the likes I doubt you’ll ever achieve. But I bet GSP thanks you for your support.

GSP spends a couple of weeks in Brazil and thats a major feat? Fitch spent a couple of weeks in Vietnam, so I guess he’s like Chuck Noris now…

by Arnold on Jul 3, 2008 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Big accomplishment for Jon. I have a great deal of respect for him, but GSP has gone against black belts before so this doesn’t worry me a whole lot. I wonder how much longer it’ll take GSP to earn his black belt.

by Shadyone33 on Jul 3, 2008 2:57 PM EDT reply actions

I’m pretty sure GSP has the skills & knowledge to get a BJJ black belt. He probably just doesn’t take the time to officially go through the process. There’s no way he could be where he is w/o mad BJJ skills.

by TheNegation on Jul 3, 2008 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I think so too. I really see GSP using his strength to control. Not saying that Fitch isn’t strong, but GSP is in a different league. He’s got that retard strength.

by Shadyone33 on Jul 3, 2008 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I can’t say I’m an expert on retard strenght, but by judging your posts you must know something of it.

Fitch’s advantage for almost all of his fights has been his size and strenght, he is bigger then GSP; so how does this make GSP in a different league?

by Arnold on Jul 3, 2008 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m not sure what this “retard strenght” is that you refer to. You seem to be in the best place to elaborate for us.

As for what GSP’s advantages are, strength, speed, and explosiveness are different than mere size. Fitch’s 2 inch height advantage and perhaps 5 lb weight advantage are more than made up for by GSP’s advantage in the athleticism department.

by Hardcharger on Jul 3, 2008 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Geez dude…Don’t call someone a retard when you can’t even spell. What are you Jon Fitch’s retarded brother? I’m saying that GSP’s strength is in a different league because I’ve never seen anyone push him around physically. Have you? Now…Fitch’s last fight Chris Wilson leaned on him quite a bit…Someone that was fed to him so that Fitch could retain his #1 status actually made quite the fight out of it.

So, to recap…GSP is really, really, really strong. I haven’t seen Fitch display the ability to push people around and control them like GSP has.

Do you understand now? Or do I need to get my crayons out and draw you a picture?

by Shadyone33 on Jul 3, 2008 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL.

Point goes to Shadyone33 on this exchange!

by OJR on Jul 3, 2008 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

No doubt they’re both ridiculously strong. Fitch used be huge as in almost bodybuilder big. Congratulations to Jon. That’s a serious achievement. I just had my first Jiu Jitsu class yesterday and realised that while you know an armbar, kimura, americana, gogoplata etc etc when you see one, doing one is a complete different matter. Not to mention trying the subs while rolling for real.

I pretty much just did a Sherk and either lay in guard or side control doing absolutely jack. Jiu-Jitsu involves some serious skill, technique and patience. It was a humbling experience.

by RobH86 on Jul 3, 2008 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Chris Wilson was not feed to Fitch to keep his no#1 contendership, im pretty sure UFC would not be bothered if Fitch lost his no#1 contendership as he isn’t very marketable/known by a lot of people. I mean seriously the guy has won his last 16 fights, 8 in the UFC. Don’t you think the UFC would of gave him a title shot before now, you say it like UFC has been doing him favours, had him fighting cans when in fact he has earned his title shot through hardwork.

Fitch was suppose to fight Karo but Karo wanted no part of him, i think at the time most of the WW division was tied up and don’t forget that Fitch had already beat loads of people at WW so Akihiro Gono was his new opponent, Gono got injured so Chris Wilson replaced him, he wasn’t fed to Fitch.

by Macho Bullshit on Jul 3, 2008 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I think that the UFC didn’t want Fitch to be in this spot because the danger he poses for most fighters. I think he is awesome but I’m curious to see GSP’s gameplan going into this fight since he has been training in Brazil. Who knows how many leaps and bounds his skills have improved.

Both fighters are easy to love because they are so skilled, not to mention classy. Can’t wait!!

What do you think Matt Serra was? A Black belt under Renzo Gracie, who by the way Matt was the first american to do so under him. Well we all know how bad GSP made Serra look. Like one of the posters said before, the only WW that can beat GSP is GSP (or BJ if he moves back up).

by Jason on Jul 3, 2008 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

Hughes is a black belt as well.

by GSP4Prez on Jul 4, 2008 1:36 AM EDT up reply actions

I can’t wait for this fight! The fight hype is going to explode after UFC 86. I think Fitch is gonna give St. Pierre a run for his money. Fitch is such a different fighter than anyone he’s faced before. I’m hoping Fitch by a brutal knock out. There was nothing more priceless than to see Serra KTFO him. Hopefully Jon had to master how not to get himself caught in a triangle or a RNC for his black belt. His wrestling instincts seem to get himself into those situations. We’ll see if he’s worked on that game plan…

by DaneJa260 on Jul 3, 2008 3:21 PM EDT reply actions

That’s what I’ve been saying. Fitch gets caught in sub almost ever fight. He has been able to power out, due to his strength advantage in the past. This time he won’t, GSP is to strong.

by Gord on Jul 3, 2008 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Like what a commenter said earlier, he’s got that “Retard strength”!!Look at how he manhandled Hughes, who’s supposed to be a strong wrestler. Well IMO, Fitch pales in comparison to Hughes when it comes to wrestling. Man this fight is gonna be sick!

by TheNegation on Jul 3, 2008 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Fitch is so over hyped. Seriously. I don’t see Fitch being better than GSP in any skill set, especially BJJ. I don’t know how much Fitch could have improved on the ground since his last fight but he was not impressing me with his ground skills.

by bostonmmajunkie on Jul 3, 2008 3:23 PM EDT reply actions

Let me guess you went to school in the midwest too right? Hahaha … your statement makes no argument.

by bostonmmajunkie on Jul 3, 2008 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

No i completely agree with midwest.

How anyone can say Fitch is overhyped??? He is the most underhyped fighter in the UFC.

He was on about a 10 fight winning streak before anyone really even heard of him.

He is now running a 14 fight streak including wins against number 3 & 4 in the division, he is a beast.

To sum it up,

My brother who only loosely follows MMA asked…

“who’s GSP fighting next”

“Jon Fitch”

“who?”

But yet he knows the size of Brock Lesnars gloves who is 1-1.

Fitch is underhyped.

by Nick J on Jul 4, 2008 9:54 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree boston… I’m not sold on Fitch. I thought he lost to Diego to be quite honest with you. GSP will dominate him and every other fighter CURRENTLY in the WW division. Obviously BJ can hang with him!

by Sean_M on Jul 3, 2008 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

The only way that black belt is going to help is if fitch can tie up gsp’s hands and feet with it. Other than that it doesn’t change gsp completly owning him the whole fight.

Well kevin, I agree with you when you say that cesar and renzo are the best (you forot ricardo liborio) but you are so wrong to think that ther aren’t any good jj coaches here. Just to name a few. Nogueira brothers, de la riva (who gave the nogueira brothers their black belt), andre pederneira, cristiano marcelo, murilo bustamante you might not know them but take a look at their records here in jj competitions. the place where gsp is training – nobre arte _ is among the best

by Cristiano from Brazil on Jul 3, 2008 3:50 PM EDT reply actions

sorry I wasn’t clear, I didn’t mean any disrespect. I know there are great bjj trainers in Brazil, I was just stating that GSP didn’t have to go there to get the best training. Sorry for confusion!

by kevin on Jul 3, 2008 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions

What does it matter where GSP went as long as he was getting great training.

FYI, GSP went to Brazil for multiple reasons. He trains at a Barra affiliate in Canada, so going to the Brazil academy made sense and was easy to work out. Going to Nova Uniao was more incredible experience, and he got to work with Leo Santos and Waggney Fabiano (who gave GSP his blue belt).

GSP’s grappling for MMA is amazing, and will now only be better.

by Hardcharger on Jul 3, 2008 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions

True Cristiano, but don’t forget we have people like Almeida in the US coaching now, and Don’t forget Drysdale who not only beat Marcelo Garcia but choked him out EARLY in the ADCC finals. BJJ has reached the point where there is world class coaching centers in Brazil, US, and Canada and at certain levels these guys can all beat each other in certain situations. Don’t get me wrong, Cesar and Renzo are some of the original badass coaches, but saying a blanket statement like they are THE BEST is just blind, there are too many awesome grapplers out there. With a gi, or without a gi? with punches in the face, or without? you take away the gi and add punches, i’d rather train under big nog anyday.

by MMAsubb on Jul 3, 2008 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d agree with that mmasubb

by kevin on Jul 3, 2008 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I think GSP went to Brazil for several reasons also but mainly to just get away from people and train more privately than in the States. i don’t know I just thought that could be a reason to go there since there are good BJJ teachers here.

He can truly relax and dedicate more time to training than seeing US fans and familiar faces crowding around him being just awestruck. In Brazil, he is just another fighter training seriously and blended amongst the students who dedicate their lives to BJJ. I don’t know…just a thought.

by LIFT on Jul 3, 2008 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Don’t get my wrong I love watching fitch fight and he is the definition of warrior. but my question is, does ANYONE else think 4.5 years is not only unheard of fast, but to the point where I would put money on him losing to ANY blackbelt who did the full trek in terms of time and experience? And whoever the retard is who posted earlier it doesn’t matter what level belt in BJJ you are, is just plain ignorant. Quoting TheNegation, I think Fitch bought that blackbelt (from Macy’s hahah seriously I almost peed on my computer chair I was laughing so hard), and if you don’t think belt level matters, watch the difference between fitch’s submission execution and someone with a 2nd or 3rd stripe BB like Werdum or Almeida, and realize it DOES matter.

Unless your name is BJ Penn of course.

by midwestbred on Jul 3, 2008 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions

This is true my friend, but BJ started with BJJ as his central focus (if im correct in my info) and although he also happens to be a great striker, his real danger is still on the ground IMO. Also BJ put more time and blood than 4 1/2 years into his belt. I’m always torn with BJ he is one of my favorite fighters to watch hands down, I just can’t stand that he’s a spoiled brat at heart, but below that hes a BJJ fighter, and I love it because he THINKS like a BJJ fighter the instant it hits the ground =)

by MMAsubb on Jul 3, 2008 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought he got into boxing first when he was kid and then he was shown a few BJJ things and fell in love with the sport. I might be wrong.

by RobH86 on Jul 3, 2008 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions

BJ would just “fight” and “mess around” with his friends when the BJJ neighbor finally convinced him to go over there and see what it was all about. The guy tapped little baby Penn out, and Penn said “man I oculd rule Hilo with this ting”

by The Anomaly on Jul 3, 2008 11:53 PM EDT up reply actions

BJ is the fastest american to get his black belt. he was winning tournaments he had no business being in at a young age. the new, non partying BJ is way different than the “spoiled” BJ.

Check out BJ Penn on youtube. I’ve seen him grapple with a BJJ Black Bent when BJ was only a white belt, and the guy just “got it”. He destroyed the black belt and everyone there was laughing at how ridiculous BJ made him look. LMAO, BJ truly is the prodigy.

Well kevin, I agree with you that the best coaches are in the states (I’d include ricard liborio to that list) but it’s very few compared to the amount of MMA academies over there. You are so wrong too hink that gsp won’t benefit from training here. Serra works with Renzo and Bonnar works with Cesar, not too many athletes coming out of these two but I don’t know every athlete that works with them so I might be wrong. Aniway, training in brasil, specially in rio de janeiro is still the best option to work on your bjj.

by Cristiano from Brazil on Jul 3, 2008 4:02 PM EDT reply actions

cool…I though nogeiras just opened school in FL with anderson silva? I still say Caesar Gracie is top BJJ coach in the world. he’s been teaching for what…15-20 years and has given out 5 black belts. Thats earnung them. I’d have to agree there are more black belts in brazil, but how many are earned with the strictness of the ones that are really earned here in the states? Not being condescending, asking a serious question!

by kevin on Jul 3, 2008 4:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I totally hear you Cristiano! One thing we are forgetting is that GSP is SUCH a smart fighter in the cage of course, but in his training as well. He travels to great places for every aspect of his game. He used to wrestle with the Canadian Olympic team and look at his wrestling these days! He trains striking all over the place, as well as surrounding himself with other great fighters as training partners (Huerta, etc.)I also have noticed just basic differences in US vs Brazilian style BJJ training, US using much more positional sparing, and Brazilian more on drilling to emphasize muscle memory, neither is better, just different =). Either way, someday in my BJJ training I am definitely going to make a pilgrimage to the motherland that is beautiful Brazil!

Guerilla? There’s a Guerilla Jiu-jitsu black belt? Who’s the master, Che Guevarra? Haha, j.k.!

by TheNegation on Jul 4, 2008 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions

it’s the system that dave camarillo teaches. it combines judo and jiu-jitsu and gears it towards mma.

I was going to say something about you lifting that quote off the UG without attribution but less mania noobs signing up there the better I guess.

by aa on Jul 3, 2008 4:30 PM EDT reply actions

Honest mistake — was not omitted on purpose. Mania has no bones about showing the link love.

by MMAmania on Jul 3, 2008 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Fitch is over hyped. He is going to lose to GSP. Remember I said it here first.

by bostonmmajunkie on Jul 3, 2008 4:43 PM EDT reply actions

I agree with you…I said it HERE first…in the “reply to this comment” section.

by Eric on Jul 3, 2008 8:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh yeh you guys definatly said it first, really put your neck on the line with that pick.

Everyone knows Rampage is gonna beat Forrest and GSP is gonna beat Fitch whop de do.

by Nick J on Jul 4, 2008 10:05 AM EDT up reply actions

This is for shadyone33 but fitch was the smaller man in his last fight. i watched it last night and was suprise wilson makes 170 but fitch was able to control him for most the fight and found an answer by the 2nd rnd for the reach advantage that wilson had.

by doomdoom on Jul 3, 2008 5:16 PM EDT reply actions

I think GSP will win this fight but I also can see it being a war. GSP is a little better at all aspects of the game but Fitch is a big WW and I think he is going to bring it. I don’t see this fight ending in the second round like GSP’s last 2 fights. I think it will go 4 or 5 rounds and might even go to a decision.

by brac on Jul 3, 2008 5:21 PM EDT reply actions

I tell you a fight I would like to see and that’s Diego Sanchez vs. BJ Penn at 155 lbs. Just thought I would throw that out there. I just think that would be a great fight.

by brac on Jul 3, 2008 5:23 PM EDT reply actions

diego vs thiago is the fight everyone is talking about at the moment, but fitch has beaten diego (my boy) and thiago, and still people say he’s overrrated. i dont know what else he has to do except beat gsp, wich aint happening. i also, like some, think fitch will be gsp’s hardest fight to date, but gsp knows it as well and is at just to high a level for anyone at ww right now. gsp vs b.j. on new years will be off the hook and cant wait for them to sign and the debate to begin on that fight! i think it will be the biggest and most important mma fight ever since forrest/bonnar and that fight, as great as it was, was really only important historic wise. gsp vs b.j could change the face of mma as we know it. (boy, am i getting hystericaal or what?). the winner gets a. silva.

by b.w on Jul 3, 2008 5:31 PM EDT reply actions

Early thoughts: BJ will win! Wow, that fight will be bad ass!

As for Fitch, he is a legit #2 welterweight in the world, and I am a big fan of guys like diego and Alves (my boy). Its a shame that Fitch does not get the recognition that he deserves. He will get his respect after putting GSP through the fire in what will be GSP most hard fought win to date!

by john on Jul 3, 2008 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I honestly think this fight might come down to conditioning which is saying alot cause they both have great conditioning. let it be known i take gsp in this fight just think jon will do very well.

by doomdoom on Jul 3, 2008 5:37 PM EDT reply actions

by TKO on Jul 3, 2008 6:10 PM EDT reply actions

by b.w on Jul 3, 2008 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions

dude chill out. sometimes my comments don’t show up either but that could be due to numerous and unrelated internet problems. Do you think Mania is conspiring against and your anti-Fitch ramblings? here watch this:

OMG MANIA…FITCH SUCKS SO MUCH I WANT TO HURL IN RAGE!!
GO Anit-Fitch Campaign GO!

oops nothing happened…

by LIFT on Jul 3, 2008 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

all I said in short when GSP is done with him he will have his black and blue belt all over his face

by TKO on Jul 4, 2008 8:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Going from white belt to black belt in 4.5 years is ridiculous. Fitch is on the affirmative-action plan for MMA fighters. Fitch is a great fighter, but you simply cannot train and compete in BJJ tournaments sufficiently to go from white to black in under 5 years. I would buy it if a guy wins Mundials or ADCC or something like that, but not a full-time fighter who NEVER competes in grappling tournaments. Sim Go took seven years to reach BB, and that’s about as fast as you can get one legitimately.

It would be funny if Fitch gets subbed in his next fight by NON-Black Belt GSP. :)

by Fred on Jul 3, 2008 6:32 PM EDT reply actions

This is going to be a great fight. GSP will take it though, sorry fitch. I think GSP’s speed is going to dictate the striking in his favor. First round, GSP will take Fitch Down immediately, and he’s going to try to knock Fitch out on the second round. I’m sure he’ll throw lots of superman punches followed by leg kicks. Pretty much the approched he used against Kos. If he can’t KO on the second, he’ll take him down on the third and G & P a victory. In other words, GSP is going to control the fight from beginning to end. Fitch’s only chance is to go balls out and throw a long combination and maybe get a KO, GSP is going to be expecting to defend takedowns.

Hey Kevin, I know you weren’t disrespectfull, you are one of the few guys here that I consider worth reading. I was saying that probably Brazil is still the best place to practice BJJ because I believe it’s the country with the largest number of good qualities gyms (again, bjj gyms) in the world. USA has badasses like Big Dog, Gonzaga, Drysdale, Penn, Renzo, Cesar, Liborio and others, but they aren’t pure jiu-jitsu trainers, but MMA trainers.

by Cristiano from Brazil on Jul 3, 2008 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

cristiano, you are a smart guy, reading my posts!! just kidding, lol.

by kevin on Jul 3, 2008 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Christiano have you heard of Pedro Sauer? He got his Black Belt from Cesar Gracie and he teaches in the States. He actually signed to train the FBI in BJJ.

by haglnuts on Jul 3, 2008 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry guys, I only posted twice because I thought I was being moderated. I understand you Kevin and MMAsub. I think GSP is getting here the same quality training he would get over there, but in a different perspective. What do you think of that?

Next step for him should be go to Holland to train his Muay-Thai. He would turn out to be the sickest fighter in the UFC. And I think Big Nog still has his gym over here

by Cristiano from Brazil on Jul 3, 2008 7:01 PM EDT reply actions

Congrats to fitch getting his black belt… HUGE achievement. Unfortunately for him, though, he’s going to need a lot more than a black belt in bjj to beat GSP… sorry fitch… maybe in a BJJ match but not in an MMA match!!!

by Jonathan on Jul 3, 2008 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

4 and a half years to earn a black belt? I know nothing about this, but it seems like a relatively short time. Can anyone educate me on this please?

by chefdaddy on Jul 3, 2008 8:49 PM EDT reply actions

jon is going to wipe the floor with georgy boy. remember you heard it here first.

by bubba on Jul 3, 2008 9:24 PM EDT reply actions

FITCH, GSP HAS YOUR NUMBER BROTHER! I CAN FELL A CLINIC BEING DISPLAYED BY GSP. I THINK FITCH IS OVERRATED & FEEL THAT GSP IS SUCH A TECNICAL FIGHTER THESE DAYS, FITCH IS GOING TO HAVE A HARD TIME KEEPING UP. GOOD LUCK TO HIM THOUGH & CONGRATS ON BEING GIVEN THE TITLE SHOT. MAY THE BEST MAN WIN.

by dirtydarkin on Jul 3, 2008 9:33 PM EDT reply actions

Hey mmamania, am I being moderated or what’s going on, I have not been disrespectful and my posts aren’t showing up.

by haglnuts on Jul 3, 2008 9:34 PM EDT reply actions

maybe you started an anti-Fitch campaign? lol

sometimes my comments show up on previous threads 1 or 2 days late. I think I know why:

First, your comments are processed by what’s known as GCPB or simply Global Comment Protection Board. Next they go to MMA Comments Headquarters where a crack team of BJJ experts and GnP specialists breakdown your post word-by-word and decipher the hidden meaning behind your thoughts….pointless steps later, MMA mania picks and choses who they like and who they don’t like….“GRRR Fitch haters” lol

ok i’ll stop being an ass….just wait a bit or post again…is there any harm in that?

by LIFT on Jul 3, 2008 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Patience is a virtue my friend. Not just in MMA, but also in waiting for your posts to show up. LOL!

hold on to that belt it will be the last one u get for a while.

by Harry Triangle on Jul 3, 2008 11:17 PM EDT reply actions

Well chefdaddy, at least in Brazil, four and a half years is the minimum time you have to train to go from purple to black belt. I don’t know how long to go from white to purple belt, but I’m guessing at least 3 more years. It’s very short time to go from white belt to black belt in 4 and a half years. Hope I cleared things up for you bro
