Leonard Garcia has federal drug charges dropped

leondard garcia
Props: MySpace.com

"I just wanted to post this to let everyone know that I had the federal charges dropped. I am still dealing with the state but the charges aren't as serious as they seemed. So I hope to be back in the cage soon ... real soon. I'm just waiting on my excellent manager Steven (boogie) Bean to get that straightened out for me. I am gonna be the WEC lightweight champ soon, this is something I feel strongly about. So I'm telling everyone that is my goal and my dream and that is what I'm going to do so I will give it my all to do what I say I'm gonna do."

WEC featherweight contender Leonard Garcia gives fans an update on his current status since his recent arrest. Garcia was arrested on March 28, 2008, for the participation and distribution of cocaine in a drug trafficking crime ring in Texas. Fortunately for him, the federal charges levied against him were dropped so Garcia could avoid serious jail time. No word yet on a court date for his possible state charges. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more details.

There is no such thing as LUCK
and his charges were false.

Do I smell a snitch? lol Just playing! Seriously, I am a big fan of this kid, and I cant wait to see him fight the CHAMP!

He would get completely tooled by Faber though. But I too am a fan of Leonard and his fighting style.

by ViolentMike on Jul 3, 2008 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well its a good thing that he isnt in the same weightclass as Faber then. Faber is a 145er and Garcia fights at 155.

by IhitU.uHITfloor on Jul 3, 2008 11:10 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Faber will crush him, but Leanords style would make it an Ultra exciting fight!

IMO, everyone will get tooled by faber anyway, at least leanord will make it exciting. Faber wont be truley tested until he gets matched up with The “Kid”

Why do these Latino guys always get involved with drugs?

by TheNegation on Jul 3, 2008 2:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Next thing you know, Huerta will also get slapped with drug charges, lol!

IhitU.uHITfloor, where have u been watching your MMA?.. Garcia took out H. Takaya in the Televised WEC in February of 2008 at WEIGHT CLASS 145 LBS.

he can’t outrun bad karma forever, it’ll catch up with him soon enough

by kitsunex on Jul 3, 2008 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ole Kitsunex must have a personal grudge against Leonard .. You’ve been hating on Garcia in your other posts about him too.

by Tapout33 on Jul 3, 2008 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I merely have zero tolerance for dead beat dads. if he wants to deal drugs, fine whatever, but at least use some of that money to help raise the children he’s helped to produce.

by kitsunex on Jul 3, 2008 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Stop hating on Garcia Kitsunex .. They aint your kids …

by Tapout33 on Jul 3, 2008 7:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah he got lucky for sure. Good to hear things worked out for him though, he is an exciting fighter.

I thought he dropped to featherweight??

by mma dude on Jul 3, 2008 9:47 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He did.

by MMAmania on Jul 3, 2008 10:03 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I guess Verner is an earier target than Faber.

Can’t blame him if that’s the way he’s gonna go, although I think he meant to say Featherweight.

by Eric on Jul 3, 2008 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

*easier, not earier

D’oh!

by Eric on Jul 3, 2008 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It’s not going to matter after Hicks crushes Varner. Garcia won’t beat the Wrecking Ball.

by PW on Jul 3, 2008 11:52 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good to hear, would have been sad for to see that kid to go to jail for most of his life over a drug charge. Isn’t he a featherweight now, not lightweight?

yeah i thought that as well

Yo Maniacs.. Chk it out. Mikey Burnett is sueing TUFGuy Production for a career ending injury he suffered while taping of TUF4… What intresting to me.. I wonder if Mikey got hurt while tyring to run through a wall at full speed??

by PhilQNY on Jul 3, 2008 9:58 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

that, not to mention, years of alcohol and drug abuse made that guy look like an alien already. I dont think hes gonna win his case.

by mma dude on Jul 3, 2008 10:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was having some trouble getting the exact page.. but click upbove and you’ll see the Mikey Burnett link.

by PhilQNY on Jul 3, 2008 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Were his injuries suffered while fighting/training or were they the result of him getting drunk and running through a wall? And is his career over because of these injuries or because he’s just not that damn good?

by PW on Jul 3, 2008 10:32 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know when he hurt his spinal cord was when like a moron he wants run through a wall..I remember seeing it..and saying to myself.. Ouch..he had to of broken something. I think Burnett feels a certain amount of neglect was done..that they didn’t take his injury serious at the time..or whatever. I know he has to take soem blame for it.. noboady made him want to run through a wall. Other then that incident I don’t where else he could of gotten hurt.. His fight with Din THomas was over before it started..via triangle.

by PhilQNY on Jul 3, 2008 10:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

it had to have been the Wall! Wall never looses a fight! So far the Wall is undefeated in TUF!!!

i though garcia looked ihis wec debut at fw. i know the feds usually dont drop the case unless they aint got one. so good luck to leonard and i look forward to seeing him fight faber soon.(yes i know faber will win, but he has to fight somebody).

“Fortunately for him, the federal charges levied against him were dropped so Garcia could avoid serious jail time.”

With all due respect, I don’t understand the fanboy responses. If Leonard Garcia was, in fact, involved in drug distribution, I want him buried under the jail. Drug cartels are a major problem in the southern and southwest states. None of us know the real story, so we should just wait and see what charges are brought against Garcia and whether they stick.

I like Leonard as a fighter; but if he was involved in the drug business, it doesn’t matter what he did in MMA. I don’t accept that he was somehow targeted or singled out unfairly. There’s a reason why he’s a suspect. So, it’s out of line to say that it’s “fortunate” that charges weren’t filed. IF Garcia beats the charges on the state level, then maybe we can talk about it being fortunate. Until and unless that happens, he should be completely out of MMA.

I agree Fred. I live in Texas (nowhere near Lubbock, thank God) and there are cartels all over the place. I’m in favor of police and DEA agents ‘accidentally’ shooting known distributors.

“I’m in favor of police and DEA agents ‘accidentally’ shooting known distributors.”

That’s F’d up. You never liked to have fun back in the day?? How do you think those “party favors” end up in the USA?

by ViolentMike on Jul 3, 2008 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

As “a big fan of FoxNews,” I’m of the opinion that if the federal charges were dropped, then he’s in the clear. Federal criminal narcotics laws and the caselaw interpreting them have developed to become so pro-prosecution that very little evidence is required to obtain a conviction. If the U.S. Attorney’s office didn’t think they had the evidence to convict him, then I have no reason to suspect that he was actually involved in the drug business (perhaps knowing guys who were, but not a criminal himself). It’s not unusual for prosecutors to over-charge, both in the number of counts and the number of people indicted, in order to shake loose information. This very well could’ve been an indictment-by-association and they cut him loose because he had nothing to offer.

fukStyk: TO each his own! I just want to see the kid fight, I could care less what else he does with his time, I just dont want him to drag mma in the mud. He isnt a big enough star to hurt the mma. U know how many NFL players sell/traffic blow? The NFL has still survived…. Who the hell really cares, Drugs will always be around. Kill 1 cartel member, and he will be replaced with 3. I just want to see the kid fight, not ask him to baby sit my kids (I dont really have kids, I am no joe Daddy thats for sure).

by john on Jul 3, 2008 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Give me a break dude, you said there’s reason why he was a suspect, obviously there was a bigger reason why the charges were dropped. Don’t vilify the kid because he was a suspect and say he should be buried under the jail. Its true that drug cartels are a problem down there, but if the Feds don’t think he was part of that problem, I dought he was.

by Haze on Jul 3, 2008 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

First, I’ve toked maybe 5 times in my life. Not my thing. Second, for every group of HS or college kids having a little fun there is another group of people in the U.S. willing to kill whoever they have to in order to make sure they get to keep selling to those kids. If they get shot in a raid then so be it.

innocent. until. proven. guilty.

i hope some day you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time and get arrested or “accidentally” shot. not saying that’s what happened to garcia, but it happens a lot. and your holier-than-thou bullshit is just sickening to read.

by garth on Jul 3, 2008 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Garth: u r right man! Getting charged with something you honestly did not do is not a fun experience.

At the age of 17 (memorial day weekend) I was in Wildwood New Jersey with friends. it was Sunday Morning (8 am) and I had not gone to bed yet from partying all night. I was in my car (parked) in front of a girls house, waiting for her to come out. She was taking for ever, so I reclined my seat a little bit and was just waiting (My keys were not even in the ignition). I hear tapping on my window, I look up and its 2 police officers. They tried to say I was Drunk, sleeping in my car with the engine on…and HOnest to god that was not the case.. Back then, I was a serious high school basketball player on a top 10 high school team in the Country at the time (with teamates who made it to the NBA Eddie Griffin RIP, and Rasul Butler new orleans Hornets), so I had big basketball aspirations and I was completely against Alcohol. I never drank it! Even opn New years eve’s I would not even drink a glass of champaign.

These Dirty wildwood cops. Made me get out of my car and they were like countdown from 9-5 backwards…I was like r u guys serious its 8 am and I dont drink EVER…So I got a little mad and I counted down 9, 8, 7 ,6,5,4,3,2,1,0 to show them I was fine….They said we only told u to couynt down to 5…I was like I am trying to prove that I am dead sober, they took me to the station and gave me a breathalyzer. They said it read .01. Locked me up, suspended my license in Jersey, all this mess. I had to hire a lawyer and my lawyer said that a .01 reading is the closest thing to zero on the tests that they had back in the day, and that sometimes it could read .01 with out anyone even breathing into the machine. I still had to go to trail, spentr all this money on a lawyer, and the wildwood cops told some opf the craziest lies possible, that I now have a DUI on my record FOR NO REASON WHAT SO EVER!!!

Innocent till PROVEN GUILTY IS RIGHT!!! Get your heads out of your arses and stop judging Leanord until all the facts are made available!

John : talking about getting charged with something you did not do???

I seen this special a while back called ..nightmare in nicragua.. dude the gov charged and convicted an american of rape and murder, and the guy was 3100% innocent!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He had witnesses. phone records. emails. IM’s..you name it.

The prosacutions only witness " WAS THE MAIN SUSPECT!!!!!"

The whole time I’m watching it..I’m like no… NO.. no…no..If you ever can watch it, watch it.. has to be one of the crazyist abuse ofa Justice system I ever seen. I saw on A&E.. I know its off the topic.. but what true crazy f’n story.

by PhilQNY on Jul 3, 2008 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, man! THere is nothing worse then getting in trouble for something u did not due. OUr Country’s legal system is built on innocent until proven guilty, there fore people should not be quick to judge Leanord with out knowing all the facts.

He may be Innocent, and he may be guilty, the point is, its not for us to judge, at least until we know the full story.

Phil: Crazy story man, I like all that legal crap so I will keep an eye out for it!

JOHN. i belive you. i have heard of several people blowing a .001. and recieved dui,s,(easy money) they were probably trying to hit quota. did you or anyone else know that a judge or a d.a. can be convicted of dui or dwi and still not be disbarred or lose their jobs? insane! cops probably too. ther are alot of good cops who do care, but there are 2 bad ones for every one good one imo.

YOu are absolutely right! I did not know about the judges and Da’s…thats messed up!

Drug addicts come in every race including white

by TrueMMA on Jul 3, 2008 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Being hispanic myself(Puerto Rican, citizens to the US, since 1917) I will say you are an idiot…Along with the other guy up top “TheNEgation” who said “Why do these Latino guys get involved with drug dealing…” I was born and raised in NY. And you know what for every Latino or black drug dealer there is a white guy selling as well. Italians and Russians have been known for there importing and exporting abilities. The French where and still are some of the biggest known heroin/hash importers in the world. And Go to Kentucky or Humboldt county, CAli, where Pot growers have farms set up like Vietnamese jungles, Booby trapts/explosives, pungy sticks, and killer dogs, that the DEA even hesitates to raid these farms. Also Canada has some of the most potent pot coming into the states. Meth is a white drug. It is just recently that it is comeing across from mexico, but still it is primarily white rural cities that are being ravaged by meth. So where is the black and LAtino factor in that? But it is always about the black and hispanics kids. Let me tell you something there is no Cocaine/heroin farms in the ghetto. LAst I checked there is no Pot growing on MLK in the city nearest you. SO if you believe that the government really wants to end the drug problem then you are crazy. There is way to many jobs and way to much money not to be made if they stopped drugs. The US Government is the Biggest drug dealer known to man, and I love this country. I would not trade it for anything but to believe that it is a black and latino thing is ignorant in this day and age…

to bad faber is pretty much set to fight on septembers card against brown, and after that he wants to move to the ufc at 155 i don’t think the garcia faber fight would be all that exciting either urijah would end it in round1 brutally..

and people just because the feds dropped the charges it still says state hasn’t yet a lot of the time i think that means he snitched out someone bigger so he got a lesser charge no hate against the dude but he’s still not cleared

I am really not to hear to hate, but it will sound that way, I have personally dealt with Leonard and yes he should be charged, I knew who he was cause he sold to some of my family, this really damages peoples families, I hate him for denying his involvement, he will eventually pay, I hope he does do well and change but to have ruined peoples families just cause your dad was a fucken bum, isn’t cool, I have lived in Plainview all my life till about four years ago when my father passed away and I moved to DFW, Texas, that is all west texas is about, so I don’t hate him I just hate that he has denied the drug dealing when everyone in Lubbock, and Plainview know he has sold for a while, but his story isnt some kid getting to live his dream because of his talent, he had to sale drugs to pay for all his training cause he is not a real man that can bust his ass to pay his bills he had to take the easy way out and ruin peoples lives in the process. Good Luck if you have changed but next time, quit blaming others and finally be a damn man and face your past cause it ain’t going anywhere.
